So That the Light Will Be Revealed

276.01Question: While listening to The Study of the Ten Sefirot, what is the condition for it to be revealed between friends and to not lead a person astray?

Answer: It will not lead you astray anywhere. You will advance. Therefore you need to think only about how you can be together in your advancement, and you will see that this is indeed so, that it influences you more.

Either you will remain in what already exists or you will move forward, try to understand what is happening, and increasingly feel which qualities you lack in order for the light to shine from itself upon you. Then you will understand everything.

Loving Out of Habit?

528.04Question: If one constantly practices love for one’s neighbor, can it become a habit?

Answer: It all depends on the definition of what is considered caring for one’s neighbor? If it pays well, then why not? I am ready to work for a reward. I can even care for others voluntarily if I receive some benefit from it, not necessarily monetarily, but in some other way like respect. Self-respect also works; even if no one knows about my “kindness,” such modesty can give rise to even greater pride.

One must remember: True analysis is carried out by the light that returns to the source. If I start acting on my own judgment, a thousand opportunities to deviate from the path will open before me.

At one time, Abraham gave such gifts to some of his students: “If you wish, please, plant love without the reforming light. Be sweet children, treat each other well, and good bye.” However, the true property of mercy (Hesed) from the spiritual Sefirot can be borne only by a small group, which Abraham took with him.

We must understand that if we do want to move forward, it should not be by ourselves, and not according to our own reasoning. It is the light that returns to the source (reforming light) that must reveal our path each time. I take a step forward only after it has shown me the way, whether by illuminating it or, on the contrary, by darkening it. That no longer matters. The main thing is not to act alone by following my own logic.

Question: Maybe not alone, but together, in a group, can we “get addicted” to caring for our friends?

Answer: In a proper group this can never happen. On the contrary, you will see that after each ascent comes an even greater descent. What kind of habit can there be? The “turbulence” that awaits you on the path will make you entirely forget yesterday because of the current troubles.

The Final Hisaron

528.01Question: Is there a main, final Hisaron (deficiency) of Hisaronot (deficiencies) that the ten should strive for? If it exists, can the ten immediately demand such a Hisaron (lack) from the Creator, or should they strive for it through some intervals?

Answer: No special actions are required. You just need to try to be closer to your friends to such an extent that as to feel and perceive everyone as a single whole that you want to raise to the Creator. Then it will happen.

Questions about Spiritual Work—246

281.02Question: At the highest point of an ascent, how can one remember in a timely manner that everything was done, is being done, and will be done by the Creator and not attribute anything to oneself?

Answer: Such a feeling and such an evaluation gradually form in a person. So one just needs to continue.

Question: Is inner work with the Creator intended to bring one to the intention to bestow? Or even before the inner work, should I feel that my intention is directed toward bestowal and then I will come to this work?

Answer: No, intentions for bestowal are gradually formed within a person. That is, inner work brings you to a clear intention to bestow.

Question: Should I perceive all the words coming from the friends as the voice of the Creator?

Answer: Not all, but for the most part.

Question: What should a person’s response to the call of the Creator be?

Answer: A person should try to draw closer to the Creator and understand what He desires from him.

How Can We Make the Necessity for the Creator a Property of the Ten?

942Question: In every word you say, there is a feeling of Hisaron deficiency in relation to the Creator without whom it is impossible to go on living.

Can we make a Hisaron like yours a property of our ten so that it would truly hurt, and not hide it behind some memorized phrases, words, or formulas?

Answer: There is nothing special about my striving for correction. Therefore, if you want, you will be able to connect with each other and with the Creator, with all our friends in the world, raise this Hisaron, and turn it to the Creator. This is what you must do.

Question: But still, how can we make the inner need for the Creator the property of the ten so that it would hurt everyone?

Answer: This needs to be talked about, and then you will connect with each other. In your common aspiration, your common Hisaron, you will be able to collect everything that is lacking and turn it to the Creator. And the Creator will definitely respond to it.

So that the Message of the Creator Becomes Common to All

938.02Question: Yesterday was a very powerful unity day. We all felt that the Hisaron (deficiency) we were experiencing was not ours; it came from the Creator. And then I felt fear that I would not see where I should apply my effort. How should I work with this?

Answer: The fact that you feel you are receiving a desire from the Creator is, of course, not a bad level. But what do you do with it next?

Next, you must connect with the entire worldwide group and somehow pass this on to them from within your desire, not even with words, but through actions. Then this message from the Creator will become common to all.

Where Should We Look for the Creator?

934Question: Why do we keep talking only about the connection between us, and not about the connection with the Creator?

Answer: Right now, we are talking about the realization of our mission, and that is why we devote so much attention to the connection between us. The ultimate goal is adhesion with the Creator according to the law of equivalence of form, which means for us to become a “Man,” “Adam,” that is, similar to the Creator.

To achieve this, we must prepare our spiritual vessel (Kli) by making it similar to the upper one. This Kli must be one for all, where all its parts unite as one man with one heart. It must include all our hatred, jealousy, ambition, pride, and thirst for power, and above all this, we must rise and unite in order to become similar to the Creator and attain adhesion with Him.

We may think that the Creator exists somewhere outside of us, but in the end, He is revealed within the very same common spiritual Kli that we build among ourselves. Therefore, to have the right perspective, we must perceive everything as existing in one place. We are building this place for the revelation of the Creator! It exists exactly where we unite with each other above our egoism.

Our egoism remains below, and above it we build connections between us. And if our connection becomes really strong, based on the power of the light that reforms, then within it we will reveal the Creator (Boreh), which means “come and see” (bo–reh).

It is not that He is somewhere high above in heaven and I am doing something down here to reveal Him up there. I reveal Him precisely within the connection between souls, between the organs of the spiritual body as the inner light that fills it.

But people think that we isolate the Creator from our discussion and talk only about our connection with each other, and this is because inwardly they are not ready to agree that there is a connection between our work, studies, dissemination, uniting with each other—and the Creator.

Each one imagines the Creator as something exalted and is willing to unite with Him, but not with another person. They do not understand that this is the same thing. It is the deeper connection between people, the quality of bestowal that is called “the Creator,” but human nature does not allow one to agree with this…

Connect with the Higher

942Question: You said that from within the ten we can connect to the state of the upper, and even to the upper of the upper. How do we connect to this state?

Answer: We have the ability to be connected with the higher and even with the upper of the upper if we ask for it.

For this, we must have sufficient Hisaronot (desires) to connect to these states. Let’s engage in this, and then you will see how it works.

Toward the Common Hisaron

938.03Question: How can we gather our small Hisarons (deficiencies) into one common Hisaron?

Answer: Be closer to your friends, understand others as much as possible,
unite with one another.

Then we can form a more or less common Hisaron. Of course, not in everything, but in such a way that we can already rise toward the Creator and demand fulfillment from Him.

Question: As I advance, I suddenly discover that my Hisaron was not entirely correct because as a result of the advancement I learn something new. How can I preserve the concept of the correct Hisaron if over time I become disappointed in it?

Answer: The fact that you become disappointed is good. It means you need to replace your Hisaron with another, a higher one.

Three Steps to the Creator

528.03We are in a state called “this world.” The reason for us being in this world is to rise, through our own efforts, to the level of similarity to the Creator, to reach His level, as it is said: “You will see your world during your lifetime.”

The science of Kabbalah is a method of revealing the Creator to creation in this world. How do we reveal Him? By becoming similar to Him. Only if I acquire a desire like the light, my spiritual vessel, will I be able to reveal the light, the Creator, in it.

How can I make myself into a vessel for revealing the light so it would fill me? We have been given two tools for this. The first is the material, the desire I acquire to the extent of absorbing outside desires, desires of other people.

There is only a point in me, which wants to move toward spirituality, although I do not know what it is. I just feel that something is missing. It is only a point of desire. I have no volume at this point, no top, bottom, right or left sides.

I cannot feel anything there, except an unquenchable desire–I want something, but I do not know exactly what. I can try to imagine spirituality, but no matter what I come up with, it is all fantasy from the realm of this world, not true reality.

How can I add volume to this point? I have to connect with a special, whole, perfect organism, with a great desire created by the Creator: Malchut of infinity. For me, it is a group, but in fact, it is the whole of humanity. But since I do not know what the whole of humanity is, a group is enough for me. This is the first component.

If I try to connect with a group and am able to connect with some part of it, as if cutting off a certain area from it, it becomes mine. It turns out that I am already gaining volume, and this volume is my desire. If I already have such a big desire, and not a point, I can start to feel something in it. What am I missing then? I am lacking this desire to be like the light. That is, the first stage is the acquisition of desire, the second is the correction of desire, and the third is the fulfillment of desire. That is it!

To obtain the desire, I have to annul myself before the group, before their unity, be connected to them like a drop of semen stuck to the wall of the uterus. This is the first stage.

The second stage is being with my friends, I must try to make my entry into the group, my connection with them, for the sake of giving so the desire I am now gaining is similar to the light.

I achieve this by using surrounding light (O”M), the light that returns to the source, what is called the “Light of Torah.”

After that, the desire becomes filled with the light of Hochma.

Therefore, when reading a source such as The Book of Zohar, which has great power, we must: feel ourselves in a common desire and want for our common desire to be corrected, to become as giving as the light.

In order to bring about such a correction, we must expect it while reading The Book of Zohar so that our desires, our union, would be for the sake of bestowal, so we would feel like a single whole and truly become a Shechina, a “place” where the upper light, the Creator, is revealed. If we correct this “place” for the sake of giving at least to some extent, to this extent the Creator will be revealed in it.

That is, I connect with the group as one whole, in mutual giving, mutual guarantee, unity, with the help of light that returns to the source, giving us all a sense of a common integral connection. Then, to the extent of unity between us, we reveal the quality of bestowal, the light of the Creator reigning in us.

Therefore, let us try not to forget about this task and realize that constantly remaining in these efforts to build such a picture for myself is my inner work, which I am now going to do as we read The Book of Zohar. After all, during the reading of The Zohar, a great light comes. Are we preparing the right desire for it so that it corrects and fills it?
