To Become Like the Creator

608.02Question: It is said that when the creations separate from each other, they cease to receive fulfillment. But I see that even in this state suddenly great illuminations and great pleasures appear. For example, even a very experienced friend can go against the whole ten and say: “This is my opinion. I am even ready to give up spirituality, but I will not depart from my opinion.” From where does such an illumination come?

Answer: From human egoism.

Question: But the system works in such a way that fulfillment comes only from the upper to the lower, while egoism is the lowest point. Where does any pleasure of its own come from?

Answer: It is not quite so. The point is that the desire to be filled relates to egoism, that is, to the lower, while the desire to fill is the desire of the upper. In this they differ from each other. But the lower, that is, the creation, cannot reach the upper,  the Creator, by its own power. It doesn’t have any way to do that.

The only thing it can achieve this is if it detaches from the Creator and works only with its own desire to bestow, that is, it becomes similar to the Creator.

Toward the Revelation of the Creator

528.04Question: Is it possible to remain in the constant thought that we, as a ten, are already in the end of correction, and that the Creator is already revealed as good that does good?

Answer: At present, we cannot draw near this state since it is too great, too exalted.

Yet in the end, if we use both the connection between us and what we study in the book correctly, these two conditions will lead us to the state in which we will be in absolute revelation of the Creator’s actions within ourselves.

Our Omission

528.03When I restrict myself in order to care for my neighbor, I am not secretly worried about my own well-being. I simply do not think about myself. This correction is performed within me by the light. This is what it means to rise above the desire, to carry out the first restriction, and to acquire the quality of bestowal. All of this is the result of the action of the light alone.

My care for my neighbor is in no way connected with material needs. I continue to eat, drink, sleep, and provide for all my necessities. The matter lies in the desire, in my inner attitude toward the act.

For example, I may greatly wish to help a sick person, to feed and give him a drink, but the doctors allow him nothing more than a piece of bread and a glass of tea. Thus, even though I would like to give him a plentiful meal and I have the ability to do so, I am limited.

So it turns out that it is all a matter of intentions. We build our relationships, the mutual guarantee between us, not on an artificial basis. That is why it seems impossible to achieve bestowal and unity, impossible to detach from concern for ourselves and to think only of the neighbor without worrying even about the essentials. But those essentials are supplied to me by others so that I may simply sustain myself. In our mutual guarantee, they care for my material needs and 100% for my spiritual success.

All of this must be properly arranged. Who are the friends? They are receiving desires that are corrected by the light that returns to the source. Nothing here is produced by our own efforts. Efforts must be invested only in order to draw the light, which will come and correct us. It is simply ridiculous to think that we will act in bestowal by ourselves. Can a person jump higher than his own head?

Our problem is that in all our actions, we do not aim toward the light. We think that the action itself will bring the result, that if we embrace one another, we will come to love our neighbor. But no, one must embrace with the intention that through this, the light will come and bind us in an inner embrace.

Everything is accomplished by the light that returns to the source. We forget about the most important element—the only force that acts in reality.

It seems very difficult and impossible to connect into one whole mutual guarantee, adhesion, unity, the neighbor, bestowal, and the urgent need so that they become a single vessel for the revelation of absolute bestowal, i.e., the revelation of the Creator to the creation. And the reason is only that we do not summon the force that will build this state for us. We mistakenly believe we can create it on our own.

The Result of Joint Work

528.03Question: You said that we must build the Kli of the fourth phase and then receive the light of the three previous phases in it. How is the fourth phase built in our joint work?

Answer: We desire to draw closer to the Creator, we raise our prayers, desires, and requests for what we lack in order to be similar to Him in qualities to Him. This influences the Creator, and in this way He changes our desires within us.

The Single Root

526Question: When we read Kabbalistic books, is it necessary for us to always look for the connection between the root and the branch?

Answer: We must remain in this all the time; otherwise, we will not enter into the material and will not absorb what is being said.

Question: How can we connect to the one root common to all when studying The Study of the Ten Sefirot?

Answer: Our root is the Creator. We must strive to make Him as mutual as possible for all by connecting among ourselves and in Him.

Readiness to Hear the Voice of the Creator

942Question: Suffering helps us adjust our direction toward the Creator. In addition, we must constantly be ready to hear the voice of the Creator. How do these work together?

Answer: Suffering, in a sense, moves us forward. But what really matters is whether this suffering comes, not from our egoism, but from the fact that we do not feel our proper place in creation, in all of Malchut. If we are not in our place, we feel it as a lack of balance of forces. Therefore, we must try to gather ourselves, our feelings, our goals, and strive toward the Creator in a more correct way.

Question: Aren’t we preparing every day to hear the voice of the Creator?

Answer: That you must ask yourself. It all depends on how connected you are with each other and whether you form a Kli, a group of ten, directed toward the Creator and desire to draw closer to Him.

Question: So readiness to hear the voice of the Creator is not my personal desire, but a group one?

Answer: Both yours personally and the group’s. The main thing, however, is the group’s desire.

The Humble and Modest Master of the World

213In the place where you find His greatness, there you find His humbleness (Shamati 47). We are under the rule of the egoistic desire that attaches importance only to the pleasure it can receive and cannot feel what is happening inside another person. This quality is called pride. It is not a flaw; it is simply a trait given to us from above.

If a person has a strong, developed egoistic desire, he or she does not feel others. The stronger one’s own desire, the more it locks one into sensing only oneself. A person cannot truly feel another at all; one only considers what loss or gain one may get from them.

To actually feel what is happening inside another, one must exit oneself and be in the spiritual world. Therefore, it is no wonder that we all feel detached from each other. In our world, we call this trait pride. But true pride exists only in the spiritual world where it awakens in a person in relation to the Creator.

When a person begins to correct himself, a special desire to receive awakens in him that compels him to disregard the Creator, to feel above Him, and to strive to rule on his own. It manifests in various forms, against which a person receives ten blows known as the plagues of Egypt.

He cannot lower and humble his pride by himself and requires special help from above. The more one humbles oneself, one accordingly reveals the greatness of the Creator in that place, and the more one discovers how humble the Creator is.

Humility is a symbol of perfection. Only one who feels some lack in something and wishes to fill himself, to feel himself in power, he demands honor, power, and recognition of being above others. But if a person is in perfection, this is the degree of Bina, and desires only to bestow (Hafetz Hesed). He needs nothing and therefore does not evaluate himself in relation to others at all!

On the contrary, if one feels oneself in perfection, a person wishes to convey this wonderful sensation of perfection to everyone. After all, it is the nature of the good force to do good, and the same desire to do good arises in the creatures when they acquire a good nature.

This is what happens with us if we can reveal the greatness of the Creator. And this depends only on us, for the Creator does not change, only we change so we can see Him as great. And then we reveal in our sensations that He is humble, because we ourselves have become the same. We perceive everything only within our own qualities.

If we discover that the Creator is great, it means we ourselves have become great. And if we reveal that the Creator is humble, it is a sign that we have become humble. This is how the law of equivalence of form works, and how we advance toward the cognition of the Creator.

Together We Will Overcome the Evil Forces that Stand in the Way of Love

528.04In our world, all the work on attaining the greatness of the Creator, spiritual qualities, and the greatness of the goal takes place within the group. This must serve as the fuel for our advancement toward achieving the importance of bestowal and love. Accordingly, we will feel that we are changing, that various shifts and positive transformations are happening within us, that is, in the direction of bestowal.

At the same time, however, the left line begins to reveal itself in all kinds of disappointments, failures, and problems related to the group, the Creator, the teacher, and the method, in everything we associate with the attainment of the goal. And we grow the importance of spirituality, then we will also see Pharaoh, which are all the sinners revealed in the left line, from the smallest to the greatest, as described in the Torah: Balaam, Balak, and all the others.

Pharaoh, or the serpent, is the general name for all the sinners. All these egoistic forces are revealed in the left line. And the main thing that defines the character of these evil forces is pride, which makes them ask: “Why do you need spiritual work? Who is the Creator that I should obey Him?”

This is the enormous human pride rising up against the Creator and crying: “I will rule!” This is how it reveals itself to a person. And to the extent that he corrects it, he begins to see the greatness of the Creator and then understands that the Creator is great precisely in His humility. A person begins to value humility as the greatest quality because it signifies perfection.

However, humility is only the degree of Bina. And then, upon it, comes an addition—bestowal built upon humility. A person’s humility toward others manifests in his readiness to serve them. And then he attains “Love your neighbor as yourself”—true love.

Don’t Look Back…

Laitman_512.02Question: You always warn us not to look back, like Lot’s wife who looked back at Sodom and turned into a pillar of salt. So when we are filled with great inspiration after a congress or a dissemination event, does it mean we should not recall it, but instead strive forward to the next degree?

Answer: Not looking back means not wanting to remain in a previous state. But it does not mean that a person should cut himself off from the past as if it does not exist. One must learn from yesterday in order to continue today in a better state.

A person should not want to be in the state of yesterday, but in the state of tomorrow. That is what it means, “to not look back.”

But this has nothing to do with Sodom. Sodom is when one truly wishes to return to a previous degree, which has already been revealed as a corrupt state. One cannot return to it anymore.

If I have decided that my previous state was corrupt and unsuitable for correction, for advancing toward the goal, toward bestowal, then I have no choice: I must finish with it and move forward.

There are people who look back, return, and wish to remain in past states, to be “small.” This contradicts development, and we are forbidden to do so.

The means for this is the group. If I try, even a little, to integrate into the group, then I will always receive my future state from it, regardless of the state of the group or of myself. Therefore, we always have the possibility to move forward and not backward.

Under the Influence of the Light

526Question: Right now I am in the lesson with the friends trying to understand what is written in TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot). How do the processes described there manifest with respect to me?

Answer: All of them must take place within us, and gradually we will begin to discover that this is indeed how we develop.

Question: At the moment, it looks to me that it is like I’ve never seen a computer, but someone tells me about it. That is one thing. But when it is in front of me, when I can touch it and take it apart it is a completely different kind of study. So how can I begin to “touch” and “take apart” what is described here?

Answer: Gradually, through the process of study, you will begin to feel the movement of the Creator toward you, or the movement of the light toward you, as well as what comes from you: your desires, how they change, and how the light that comes from the Creator depends on your desires. All of this we will come to feel through our own experience.

Question: In order to begin to feel this, what should I listen to within myself?

Answer: Only to what is happening within you, nothing more.

Question: How should I track the states of good or bad, pleasures coming and going, and so on?

Answer: All of this you will feel in time. The light will influence everyone, including you, and in this way all of us will change.
