Question: You said that a person who studies Kabbalah grows internally and one’s perception of the group changes accordingly. Every year I check this state and indeed the friends and feelings are different and we all go through various states. What is happening qualitatively within each of us?

Answer: A more corrected desire that is more suitable for common connection is gradually revealed in you. I think you have gone through good states lately and are ready for the Creator to be revealed to you. That cannot be expected—you must act.

To act means to create such connections between yourselves that will be suitable for our connection with the Creator. That is what we need.

My Response: Actually, it is incorrect that chance is above all.

Comment: But he says: “If only we knew who rules chance.”

My Response: Chance is ruled by idea of the Creator, the path of the Creator. And what else do you need to know about this?

Question: So you need to know that there are no accidents in life?

Answer: Of course.

Question: There are no accidents in life?

Answer: None.

Comment: Everything that happens to me, all encounters, marriages, divorces, everything.

My Response: Everything, everything, absolutely everything! Everything you want is not accidental.

Question: And all these paths–where do they lead to?

Answer: To the realization that a person is under the Creator.

Question: And what does this realization give me? Here I am under the Creator. Let’s say I even felt it in my heart and with all my fibers. What does this give me?

Answer: Cling to Him and do not let go like a little child.

Question: That’s it, just like a child clings to mom!  The child wraps his arms and legs around mom and holds on like that. And what will happen if I can suddenly do this?

Answer: You can be sure that nothing will happen to you.

Question: This is my complete safety?

Answer: Yes.

The one who learns to tread the spiritual path must become as an empty cup in order that the wine of music and harmony may be poured down into his heart (Hazrat Inayat Khan).

My Response: Yes, he expresses it well. That is true. If a person’s heart, meaning his main egoistic vessel, is empty and can be filled with the world’s harmony, then it is good.

Question: Does one need to empty one’s heart?

Answer: Yes.

Question: But it is full right now. What is it full of, and how can it be emptied?

Answer: If it is, it is full of selfish desires. We can empty it only if we accept all our desires as empty and unable to fulfill us and lead us on the right path.

Question: Can I do this psychologically, or is it more about education?

Answer: It is much more complex. But people will come to this eventually because there is no other way.

Question: So is this the will from above one way or another?

Answer: Yes, the Creator holds us in a way so we gradually understand who we are, in what world we exist, and how we can bring ourselves to the proper state.

Question: Does the Creator have a concept of time: “I will hold them a little longer”?

Answer: Absolutely not.

Question: But what about the fact that we have been held for so long, gone through so many years, suffered so much?

Answer: If we did not feel we were dying, we would be different. The fact that we die drives us into various thoughts, into a dead end, and so on. But, in principle, we are moving toward understanding that there is no death.

Question: And then what?

Answer: Then we will start relating to ourselves, the world, and the Creator differently. It will all be different.

Question: How?

Answer: I do not know if I can express it. It will be all free and simple.

Question: Can we say that at some point in history humanity took the wrong path?

Answer: Of course! Since the time of Aristotle and Plato.

At one point they shouted: “Under no circumstances give science away to the ignorant! They will misuse it, they will sell it to the rich, they will put it at the service of progress!

But we need spiritual progress, not technological progress! We cannot open universities to everyone!

Science should be pursued only by people who with its help want to understand the meaning of life, the lofty matters that lie beyond the boundaries of our world!”

Science should develop only in the form in which it raises a person above our world! Anyone who might use it for evil purposes has no right to engage in it!

Even the invention of, say, a special meat grinder is also evil. You do not need it, and you can live without it! After all, in the end, it is by adapting science to our world that you begin its development.

There is no other way, either external development or internal. The world followed the external path of development. Historically, this happened 3,000 years ago.

Question: But was there another option for development? Or did we still have to go through this stage?

Answer: It is hard to say because in order to understand the answer to this question, you need to be in two worlds, in the duality that we are talking about.

Everything comes from the Creator, and at the same time depends on our freewill, on our choice.

We are not able to compare these two free functions; our mind is not adapted to this. To understand this, you need to be in both worlds: the spiritual one and ours at the same time. Then you will not have contradictions; you can perceive absolutely opposite facts and information as complementary and not mutually exclusive.

Question: As a rule, it is unpleasant for a person to think about the day of his death. But this point gives the importance of choosing an environment and contributing to the group. How can you keep in focus the point that at the hour of death, nothing will help you but only the Torah and good deeds?

Answer: By death we do not mean the hour of death, but a new birth. That is how we need to understand death itself. Therefore, naturally, the Torah and good deeds are what accompany you and are what you enter a new life with.

This is like the source of the wheat: Although it changes a great deal by the three latter factors, it still retains the preliminary shape of wheat and will never take on the form of another species. (Baal Sulam, “The Freedom”).

Question: What lesson should we learn from the example of decomposing wheat in the work of the ten?

Answer: This example suggests that everything in a person changes except for one unchangeable parameter, which is his center, his basis. Therefore, we can change anything in ourselves, from very bad to very good, from death to a wonderful life.

All changes in these parameters depend on us, and what remains unchangeable in us is our primordial Reshimot (spiritual genes).

Question: Do we also need to change our form, decompose, and rot leaving only the original Reshimo in us?

Answer: Of course, this is what we do in connection with ourselves and with all of humanity.

Question: What should happen to each ten and to the world group? What does it mean that we will be reborn, rotted like wheat in order to sprout?

Answer: When you want to kill egoism in yourself, which practically exists under your pressure, or rather under your request to the Creator, then it will rot, and only its embryo will remain. And everything else will be replaced by the property of bestowal, love, and mutual connection. And then you will become a different person as if you are sprouting into a new world.

Question: Are the events that are happening now pushing us toward this rotting?

Answer: Of course, they push us to the point that we are convinced that we cannot live only with an egoistic quality and we need other forces—the forces of development.

So it is that each “source” that had taken off the preliminary shape of the progenitor and had taken on a new shape as a result of the three factors that were added to it, and which change it significantly, the general shape of the progenitor still remains, and will never assume the shape of another person who resembles him, just as oat will never resemble wheat.

This is so because each and every source has its own long sequence of generations comprised of several hundred generations, and the source includes the conceptions of them all. However, they are not revealed in it in the same ways they appeared in the ancestors, that is, in the form of ideas, but only as abstract forms. Therefore, they exist in him in the form of abstract forces called “tendencies,” “nature,” and “instincts,” without knowing their reason or why he does what he does. Thus, there can never be two people with the same attribute (Baal HaSulam, “The Freedom”).

Question: In order to mix with all the properties of the world, do we don’t have to decompose in the earth, like wheat, right?

Answer: To decompose means that I decompose myself and associate with all the people in the world.

Question: Do we just need to shift the focus from ourselves to the desires of the world in order to make a common Kli out of the world?

Answer: No, you need to not only change your focus, but also to throw your desire into the world and get the desire of the world instead. This is what is called “decomposing.” Nothing will work out until you can absorb all the desires of the world.

Question: When the sons of Israel felt a great emptiness, they cried out to the Creator. This cry came out of them automatically. What was their freedom of choice?

Answer: They had freedom of choice before when they were in Egypt. Now, the Creator has gathered them and pulled them to Him. Therefore, they are under the full power of the Creator.

We must understand that we do not yet feel like we are in the desert. We do not feel that we have nothing to eat. Therefore, we cannot cry out to the Creator asking where the food we ate in Egypt is. We do not yet feel Egypt.

Question: What is the difference between Israel and the nations of the world? Is it that the people of the world in this situation would not turn to the Creator?

Answer: No, the nations of the world are those who do not feel related to the Creator at all.

Question: Can we say that the path of the Torah is the path of education?

Answer: Of course, the Torah is the teaching about educating a person or, more correctly, a society. We must educate ourselves to be kind, good people who support one another and rise above our physical nature.

Question: If a person decides to follow the path of suffering, i.e., the natural path of come what may, can he come to spiritual revelation?

Answer: Maybe, but this is a long path where one will endure great suffering.

Question: Does a person have freedom of choice? For example, do I have a choice in the case that I am considering whether I should follow the path of the Torah or the path of suffering? Or do we not have this choice?

Answer: Everyone has it. Not at every moment in time, but we have it. Unlike inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature, a person can choose how to advance.
