Team Building Guide, Part 12

laitman_530A Team Is a Network of Connection

Question: Many psychologists say that a team is a super-organism, a separate living entity. This is a connection network where the team itself is more than the sum of individuals.

Do team members have to come to this feeling themselves? Or is it not an artificially created organization, but a natural model? If we correctly connect to its field, like we connect to the Internet, then the team is a guide.

Answer: If we are correctly integrated with the team, it begins to affect us as a completely separate external upper force. Although it is created by us and we interact in it because we cultivate unity in it, it becomes above us and influences us.

Question: Does this mean that the team itself is a conductor for reaching some more elevated goal?

Answer: For reaching the next level of connection.

Question: What do people begin to feel through this team? Is it some kind of information field, a force?

Answer: A single force that unites them, which carries new information from a new level of nature because it is the force of connection, which does not exist in ordinary human society.

laitman_544Are financial relationships acceptable in a team?

Question: It is not recommended to have financial relationships, to borrow money, or receive services within the team. We are all in the process of building warm connections. Can financial relationships bring unwanted conflicts? How critical is this?

Answer: One hundred percent, this should not be happening.

This should be suppressed by friendship. I mean, you can bring me a birthday present, say, a bottle of whiskey, and I will bring you something as a gift. However, there cannot be purely financial relationships and dependencies. They have no place in the team.

These are the conditions on the basis of which the group appears. If there are such excesses, they must be stopped immediately. Such people should be immediately removed from the group.

Question: Even so? That is, if suddenly two people came into financial contact, someone gave someone a job?

Answer: This is no longer a group, there are no friendly relationships between them.

Question: If I am the boss and he is my subordinate, can we no longer be in the same group?

Answer: No.

Question: Can we provide services to one another?

Answer: Also, on rare occasions. Depends on what services.

Comment: For example, someone is an installer and someone is a dentist. They help each other, give some discounts for their services. After all, today there is no trust in anyone. If you call some installer, go figure what he will do. And in this way, I already have a friend.

My Response: I do not know. All this is not simple. At least at the early stages, it is better to get help from other groups. Do not confuse our internal relationships with some external, opportunistic ones.

laitman_544Principles of Forming a Team: Maintaining Team Spirit

Question: Ninth rule: maintain team spirit.

During the meetings we need to rise above our feelings and interact with the team members regardless of our true state, that is, play the state to which we want to come. Playing a more perfect state attracts forces upon us that change us.

What are these forces? How do we play these states artificially?

Answer: It is necessary to outline such conditions and exercises in order to cause these states and try to analyze them later. This is a psychological group practice.

Question: Can the principle of “habit becomes second nature” come into action here? Can the fact that we artificially begin to cultivate these states and to rise above our feelings and resentments become a habit?

Answer: The habit is good when there are disturbances that are at the same levels, in the same conditions. However, if these are growing interferences and on other conditions, then the habit will not help much. Here you need the influence of the team, of the environment.

Question: Does the method itself consist of modeling the correct connections, describing them, and trying to reach these connections by some means?

Answer: Yes. However, we must understand that in such a team we are constantly growing and constantly generating new levels of integral interaction. Hence, it is not a mechanical job.

Question: Tenth rule: establish a framework of behavior, a system of control, and encourage self-control.

At the first stage, should control be provided by the integrator, or should we choose the responsible individuals from the team itself, and then constantly change them so that there will be no dislike for them from others?

Answer: I think it is better from the team itself. The team must constantly change roles between its members. Then everyone will understand what is required of them and others. And the instructor stands outside the team and sees how they work.

Laitman_524.01Principles of Forming a Team: Responsibility for Thoughts and Actions

Question: Eighth rule: you must be responsible for every word you say in the team and remember that our thoughts and actions affect the entire group.

In other words, frivolity harms most of all. It kills all attempts to build the correct connections and interferes with the team spirit.

How can a person control their thoughts?

Answer: Through preparation. Not at the time when thoughts are already appearing in you but in all previous states that determine these thoughts.

Question: There will still be conflicts and disruptions at the initial stages. What can we do if this happens? What types of punishment can we use?

Answer: None. In nothing and in no way. We just need to encourage people to behave differently.

Question: Let’s say that a person has somehow shown frivolity and criticism toward another. The other person was offended. What to do? The team is destroyed, they do not talk to each other.

Answer: On the contrary, we need to sit in a circle and discuss this problem. Resolve it in such a way that it only strengthens the connections between them. We must look at all such excesses as necessary ones during the building of a team.

How Can We Prolong Life?

laitman_560Question: In an experiment, homes for the elderly were connected to orphanages and researchers noted that the daily functioning of the elderly improved with the presence of children and the fear, insecurity, indifference, and restraint formerly observed in the children disappeared and they became like ordinary children, noisy and restless. How can we explain this?

Answer: This happened because the two parties lacked these things. The elderly lacked young restless kids, and the children lacked what kind adults can give them. This is the best way that life complements itself.

The orphans acquire an accurate and clear sense of security and kindness toward the world and toward life. The elderly people soften the feeling of the world in many aspects.

Even if they don’t have a special connection, the transmission of energy, the external connection, and even the insight that such a phenomenon exists, create a totally different picture and atmosphere.

In fact, according to nature we are built to live with three generations together—kids, parents, and grandparents. Two generations are not enough.

A child needs to see that just as his parents created him and his parents were created by their parents. Thus, he sees continuity, a flow, evolution. He sees how his parents relate to their parents, and this is a model for him as to how he should treat his parents.

He has to learn a lot from his grandparents because we know that “Israel, Saba (grandfather), and wisdom” are a whole system in our spiritual connection, and it is thus very important. Here, when we speak about orphans, the outcome should be incredible.

laitman_530Principles of Forming a Team: Stop Gossip

Remark: Seventh rule: Any kind of gossip is prohibited in the team. Even criticism is possible only at a predetermined time, with special preparation.

My Comment: This is obvious. According to the previous condition that we see only ourselves and not others, what criticism can there be? It means that I criticize myself. Or I criticize the way I see others in myself. It is because I never see anyone else.

Question: How often do you recommend having meetings where we start criticizing each other and making claims?

Answer: Sometimes, as an exercise. Maybe once a month. No more than that.

Question: And until then should I keep everything to myself?

Answer: And until then do exercises: Everything I think about the other, I think about myself.

Remark: You said that in the early stages of team development, it is best to express criticism not directly but through responsible individuals. After all, if I tell a person directly, as an egoist, he will not accept it, and there will be a conflict.

My Comment: Yes. It is better to do this indirectly.

Question: Isn’t it better to have direct honest relationships between colleagues?

Answer: Maybe. But it depends on the stage of training.

Question: So, would you not advise criticizing directly at the initial stage?

Answer: No. Only when you have accumulated a sufficient number of mutual clarifications, collisions, and connections, when you begin to understand each other deeper, better, and the goal becomes more obvious and necessary, then you can move to this level of relationship.

Question: Do we need to determine in advance some topics that we will not talk about since we know they will cause conflicts? For example, politics, religion, and family. Or, on the contrary, should we reveal all this between us?

Answer: No. We do not talk about anything that might be received poorly by others. We should not bring up such topics until we have done so well that we simply stop seeing others as something other than ourselves. Then all this will go away. There will be no reason for restrictions.

Remark: Indeed, the difference between genders, between man and woman, national and religious differences are seated so deeply in a person that until he rises above them, it is better not to touch these topics. This can destroy any team: in business, in sports, everywhere.

The Eternal Problem Of Parents And Children

laitman_559Question: Why are children, as they grow into adults, dissatisfied with us and believe that we are not ideal parents?

Answer: Because we raise them to be egoists.

I was also dissatisfied with my parents, demanded more and more from them, until I became a parent myself and got the same from my children. What can we do?

Until the world will change and get better, it will be like this.

552.02Principles of Team Building: Seeing Your Flaws in Others

Question: The sixth rule: everyone judges the friend according to his own flaws. This is a very ancient principle.

At that moment when a person clearly sees the flaws of the other, what can cause him to understand that this is his uncorrected perception?

Answer: Only public opinion. If everyone around him understands that everyone sees in the other his own flaws, his own corruption, he begins to gradually understand that this is really so that he does not see anyone but himself. Thus, he begins to correct himself.

Question: Are there any exercises that will help me realize that this is in me?

Answer: Only if you hear it from others. It all depends on public opinion. You do not see yourself. You always see others, rather, yourself in others.

laitman_938.07Team Building Principles: “Buy Yourself a Friend”

Question: Fifth rule: Each member of the group should try to “buy friends.” This is an ancient principle that sages of all generations have written about a lot.

How should one buy a friend? Your attention, concessions, cancellation of personal interests? Or are there some other principles?

Answer: However you can buy him, buy him. Gifts, words, actions. Anything.

Question: That is, it is a tool. And the result? What will it give me?

Answer: You attract him to you. After all, a friend is someone who can support you, agree with you. Even based on purely selfish interests.

Question: Meaning, by my attention I buy him and thereby buy his support?

Answer: Naturally.

New Life 1258 – East, West, And The Integral World

New Life 1258 – East, West, And The Integral World
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi

The world is divided into East and West according to the root of the soul of every nation. The nation of Israel is a third component, a special one which is neither East nor West; it is unlike any other nation. The West cannot learn from the East as they cannot be compared. In collective societies people are ready and willing to accept and obey laws whereas Western culture is rational. The West does not need to learn from the East or vice versa.

Each party needs to correct itself according to the root of its soul. We need to explain to Western people that, today, nature is obligating us to build an integral connection between different individuals for the sake of a better future for everyone. The fulfillment of the freedom of the individual is expressed by self-fulfillment in my connections with others. This is the formula for a perfect world.
