The Main Prayer

239Question: Can the upper transfer His desire to the lower one?

Answer: This is exactly what He does, but only in response to our request: “Give us the right desires!” We pray only for desire, that my desire be like His, “make your desire similar to the desire of the Creator.”

I don’t need anything else from Him, only a new program for my behavior, what to do. I need to receive reason, strength, and knowledge from Him in order to be able to work correctly with my material.

Namely, to realize the depravity of the current program of my behavior because it is opposite to the one by which He acts, and ask it to replaced with one similar to Him. This means my correction in the likeness of the Creator.

Understand the Actions of the Light

276.03Question: It is said in TES: “The point of the desire felt it as a kind of indirect extension from His essence.” What is “indirect extension” within us?

Answer: Baal HaSulam means that we are still under the influence of the light even if we go through a contraction.

We must wait until the effects of the light’s manifestation accumulate within us. Each time it illuminates us, it gradually prepares us to understand its actions correctly.

Approach the Highest Degree

276.02Question: There is light and Kli. To what do the three stages preceding Malchut relate more—to the light or to the Kli?

Answer: I cannot answer you because I do not see the picture that you see. It is different for me.

The light is what comes from the highest degree to the lowest one. By performing certain actions at the lower degree, we begin to feel changes in the higher degree, which changes itself so as to be closer to us. In principle, this is all that we have to do.

A Branch is a Consequence of the Upper Root

709Question: What does Kabbalah mean by “branch“?

Answer: A branch is a consequence of the upper root. This includes our feelings and all corporeal objects. Everything that is in us is a branch from the Creator. It can be direct, or it can be inverse.

Question: What does the root control in relation to the branch?

Answer: Absolutely everything! The Creator controls us completely. If it even seems to us that there are actions that do not come from the Creator, it is only because we cannot imagine the overall picture of His control. Everything comes from Him either through direct influence or through reverse influence. But reverse influence depends on the qualities of a person.

Question: Does each person have their personal spiritual root?

Answer: Yes, each one has their own. This is what distinguishes us from one another. Everything else is only additions layered upon our spiritual root. We receive one upper light from the Creator, but in each of us it is interpreted, realized, and felt differently, depending on one’s personal root.

The Mutual Influence of the Light and the Kli

232.04Question: You said that if the Kli feels that it is in equivalence with the light, then the connection between them is correct and good. But if not, it means that both of them must develop. While the development of the Kli can be somehow understood, what does the development of the light mean?

Answer: In the mutual influence of the light on the Kli and the Kli on the light, we see from the very first action to what extent they determine each other’s state.

Therefore, we must try to feel that if we do not expand the Kli, we cannot receive greater influence from the light.

Reveal the Oneness of the Creator

276.04The entire mission of a person that exists in the special reality called this world is to reveal that he or she is under the complete authority of the upper force and to identify oneself with it.

In order for a person to discover oneself as existing, one has been given the evil inclination, that is, thoughts and desires opposite to the upper force, given deliberately so that he himself may affirm the oneness of the Creator in all of creation and desire to be merged with Him.

A person must reveal that in him, in his thoughts and in his desires, the upper force reigns, and that it is precisely this force that arranges all the data from which he perceives the entire reality: himself and the surrounding world. And likewise, outside of him, in what he perceives as external, it is the same force that determines everything and paints the picture of the world for him.

And in this too, there is none else besides Him, while the Creator presents Himself to a person in all kinds of forms, in millions of details that compose this picture.

A person must, through great and very difficult efforts that require much time, reveal that there is none outside but the Creator, including all of the still, vegetative, and animate nature, and human beings.

And the person himself is under the complete authority of the Creator, apart from that single point from which he observes everything and affirms the oneness of the Creator in all of reality. This point must be outside the Creator, although it too is artificial and exists only because the Creator created it so. And yet, since it exists, a person can decree that indeed there is none else besides the Creator.

This is our entire work. And we have no other commandment than to decree and to reveal that the Creator is One in all possible forms, states, actions, names: Adonai, Elochim, and others. All of them speak only of the upper force that arranges the whole of reality for us. And we, by revealing this force as “There is none else besides Him” in each state, attain a certain rung of the spiritual ladder.
