The Fundamental Property of the Kli

1.02Question: There are many types of lights. For example, the light of Hassadim is a request from the creation that is constantly being clarified and changed. Can we say that the light can only be called Hassadim when the request becomes very precise, very specific? Or can it still be of different types?

Answer: It is best when we do not run away from the terms “Ohr” and “Ohr Hochma,” since they tell us how the Kli, the desire to receive, relates to the light and shows itself to it, and how it attracts the light and receives it. That is, this is the fundamental property of the Kli.

Question: You said that this is like a request for merging. Can this be expressed as a need to love?

Answer: Yes, you are right. We can say so.

You Must Try Really Hard

17.01Question: Where does the lower one get the ability to generate the light of Hassadim from the bottom up?

Answer: The lower cannot generate anything; he can only ask. As a result of his requests, the upper, by fulfilling them, builds the lower, causing new properties in him.

Thus, it turns out that there seem to be certain actions in the lower properties of the Kelim, but in reality, they only reveal what the lower one lacks in order to approach the upper one and receive from it.

Question: How can we, as a ten, generate the light of Hassadim in relation to the Creator?

Answer: You cannot do this yet because you have no connection with the upper one. For this, you must try very hard.

219.03Question: It is written in TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot) that the spiritual cannot be divided into parts. What does it mean?

Answer: This means the influence of the upper level on the lower level forces it to change.

Question: Is the fourth stage (Behina Dalet) the place where creation feels shame?

Answer: Yes, the place where the Kli feels the influence of light is its fourth stage.

Question: It says the light came out in full, but returned as a line. What is the light in the line relative to the light that came out?

Answer: The line is the influence of the four parts of the light on the four parts of the desire when each part in the desire (in the Kli) changes under different influences of the light.

Question: You said we need to delve deeper into the nature of the interaction between the light and the Kli. Why is it so difficult to grasp the point where the separation occurs for the first time?

Answer: Read the original sources, and you will understand the correct definition of each property.

Everything Comes Only From the Creator

507.03Question: How can I compel myself to investigate the upper worlds within myself, when this external world increasingly presses on me and tempts me with temptations and distracts me from the goal?

Answer: It is arranged so deliberately! Nothing is outside the will of the Creator, who specifically “washes” you in this way within your own egoism so that you may attain Him. Not a single thought or feeling arises in you that would hinder you. Everything is directed only toward attaining the unity and singularity of the Creator.

Question: But you say that the Creator does not exist, that He is only the measure of my attainment and revelation. Then who is it that “washes” me; is it myself?

Answer: No! It is the Creator who loves you in this way. He is the one who sets all this before you. You must turn to Him, “There is none else besides Him.” From Him alone come both the bad and the good.

Question: What tools are needed in order to investigate what is spoken of in Kabbalah?

Answer: Whoever engages in Kabbalah discovers these tools within himself.

Question: So a person is not born with these tools?

Answer: A person is born with a predisposition for them.

The Law of Root and Branch

707It is known that the nature of every branch is equal to its root. Therefore, the branch desires, loves, and covets every conduct in the root, and does not tolerate and hates any conduct that is not in the root. This is an unbreakable law that applies to every branch and its root. Because He is the root of all His creations, everything in Him, and which is extended directly from Him, is pleasurable and pleasant to us (Baal HaSulam, Study of the Ten Sefirot –  Inner Observation).

The upper force, the Creator, is the quality of bestowal. We love what exists in Him and not Him Himself. For example, I love to eat well, but I do not love to cook food; I want to have a lot of money, but I do not want to work hard.

We love to enjoy what is in the Creator. However, in order to attain this, we must acquire His very qualities, yet we cannot; for us it is completely unrealistic and seems very distant and unpleasant.

Question: In what way do I, and my nature as a branch, coincide with my root?

Answer: In that which is good in the Creator is also good for me. All the fulfillments represented by the upper Light are pleasant to me: He created me this way. The only problem is that I am opposite to the Creator in qualities.
