The Beginning of Inner Connection

294.2Question: What should a person feel when receiving a well-deserved gift from the Creator?

Answer: When a person receives what he is entitled to according to the line of connection from the Creator that he has built between himself and the Creator, he will feel guidance within this line about how to act correctly in order to expand the connection between them, to make it broader in range. In this way one enters a state of shared participation in the Creator’s influence on him.

Question: Is this connection mutual love?

Answer: It is not yet mutual love, but it is the beginning of inner connection.

How Do We “Defeat” the Creator?

276.02The Creator says about this, “My sons have defeated Me.” That is, I gave you the will to receive, and you ask Me to give you a desire to bestow instead (Baal HaSulam, Shamati, 19, “What Is ‘The Creator Hates the Bodies’ in the Work?“).

The Creator created a tremendous desire to receive in us, and we are trying to realize this desire in the opposite form: not as receivers, but as givers, like the Creator. Therefore we ask the Creator to help us change our state from receiving to bestowing.

Question: If we have already recognized that the desire to receive is bad and bestowal is good, then how do we defeat the Creator? Is it by turning to Him?

Answer: Yes, in general, this is our victory. As it is written: “My sons have defeated Me.”

A Spiritual Principle

929Question: Is it possible to put a spiritual principle on the Internet?

Answer: A spiritual principle is the revelation of the Creator. This is what we need to guide a person toward. To guide someone means to create in them the greatest possible need for connection with others and for exiting themselves. After all, as soon as a person begins to feel others as himself, he will immediately discover the Creator outside himself.

Why do we need the surrounding society? To practice “exiting ourselves” through it.

The Creator exists outside of me, but I do not feel Him. The surrounding society, however, is within me, but the Creator deliberately arranged it so that it appears to me as if it exists outside of me.

If I take this seemingly external, illusory picture and attach it to myself so closely that the external and internal merge within me, meaning that my “self” and the surrounding world become one whole, then I prepare my perception to feel what is truly outside me. And immediately, I perceive the Creator because the only thing that exists outside of me is Him.

And where is all of humanity? I reveal that it is within me. It always was within me. It only appeared to exist outside of me so that I could tune myself like a musical instrument or a sensory organ to perceive the Creator.

This is why we are given such a perception of ourselves split into two parts—myself and the world. In reality, there is no world outside of me.

We need to demonstrate to others the necessity of this tuning: to explain the purpose of Kabbalah, which speaks of “love your neighbor as yourself.” It is solely to bring us to the perception of the Creator—the source of all goodness and perfection.

How Can We Direct Ourselves toward Bestowal?

284.07Question: During the lesson there is a feeling of great light and goodness emanating from the Creator. There is only acceptance and agreement with it, and a sense of immense gratitude. Is this the moment of bestowal?

Answer: No, this is not bestowal; this is reception. However, you are receiving in those vessels that the Creator has previously blessed.

Question: How can we develop vessels of bestowal? How can we direct ourselves, even slightly, toward bestowal?

Answer: Through love, love and joint work in mutual responsibility.

According to the Will of the Environment

528.02Question: In Kabbalah, working against one’s desire is considered the most effective method. But if a person constantly goes against his desires, he may not endure the process. Either you ride the wave and flow with it, or you go against your desire. Which is more effective?

Answer: If I want to be overweight, but the environment around me obligates me to be slim, meaning they bully me and laugh at me from all sides, eventually, I will be forced to lose weight. Slimming down will become desirable for me.

The environment can change me so profoundly that I will act against my desires according to the will of the environment, and I will even take pleasure in it. The opinion of the surrounding environment will outweigh my original personal opinion. That is how we are built.

This is why a person is initially placed in an environment of their peers. If they properly organize this environment in relation to themselves so that it educates them and provides clear guidance toward the goal, then there will be no difficulty in progressing toward that goal even by limiting, compelling, or forcing themselves to do anything. They will feel perfection, power, and enjoyment in fulfilling the will of the environment.

Ask the Creator and Demand an Answer

238.01Question: You have told us that when contact with the Creator happens, I have to give Him everything that I have prepared. What should I prepare for the bestowal to the Creator?

Answer: Do you have any requests, wishes, or pleas for Him?

Comment: Yes.

My Response: This is what you should prepare. Then start asking the Creator precisely about the fulfillment of these wishes.

Question: Can we in the ten accumulate and build this set of pleas?

Answer: Of course you can. Then you can track how your requests change, how the ten is transforming with this, etc.

Question: Is it possible to sense that the Creator has answered us?

Answer: No, don’t be confused. For now just ask and demand an answer from Him.

Can There Be Progress Even in Darkness and Feelings of Distance?

Darkness, too, is progress, but on the left line. It is the same ascent, just from the left. When we feel as if we are in darkness, we cannot feel complete. Otherwise, we would not perceive the darkness. The feeling of darkness is necessary for progress. The intention behind descending into darkness and the actions taken there are what matter most.

Part 12 of The Study of the Ten Sefirot discusses the concept of nighttime and evening corrections by Kabbalists. We need to make several corrections, descend into darkness, work within it, and perform corrections even during sleep. It is not about escaping our soul to take on a new one. Rather, it is about preparing for the “next day” during the “night.”
