Evil Robed In Goodness

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: According to the method of integral upbringing, a person is not supposed to be shown bad examples. But in psychology things are a little different: A person talks about his misfortunes and begins to evaluate what he is doing wrong. Essentially, a person is getting in touch with his evil, bad side, which he then tries to correct.

Answer: Our approach is absolutely different: Evil does not exist! There is no evil in the world! Even though all of nature appears evil to us, it is only because we use it incorrectly. If we use it in a different way, it will be absolute goodness. And we can also use egoism for good, and not bad.

When I play against my own egoism, meaning begin to evaluate and work with it as with an instrument of my ascent over it, it becomes my starting point, the guideline according to which I measure myself: how much I ascend and change.

I regard my egoism as a negative essence given to me, which I must properly robe into a completely opposite intention: to use it all for bestowal, love, and connection. Then egoism will constantly be of help to me; it will constantly push and goad me, pull me somewhere aside, and I will constantly work on counterbalancing it by finding ways to rise above it. This way it will be my help “against me.”

We know that any tracking or any developing system must consist of two opposite forces. And these mutually opposite forces achieve the best possible result, the common denominator by balancing each other out.

This is why the egoism in me must be balanced out by the desire to rise above it, lean on the environment, the help of the neighbors, friends, and the entire community in order to rise above it. These two systems—society, the environment on one side and my egoism on the other—are helping me. And it is as if I am standing between them and am raising myself this way.

Ultimately, I examine my egoism, reveal the qualities in it that can help me grow above it, use it for bestowal, advancement, joy, and helping others, and then it becomes the force, the mass, the matter, I am working with. I am in no way destroying it! It keeps developing in me, and I welcome with joy all the nuances of its development.

A modern person greets it with sorrow and grief: “Me again! What did I do?!” But it is not me. It is nature revealing itself in me this way—an enormous egoistic nature that reveals itself in us specifically this way so we would keep uniting over it.

This is why egoism is an engine that moves us forward. We need all its forms, all its manifestations, even the most horrible ones, so we could robe them in pretty clothes.

This horror remains on the inside, and let it stay there. But when we put a completely different and opposite shell on it, we create a discord, a dipole in every one of our qualities, which helps us increase the strength of egoism and use it for the sake of others in a way which creates a completely different structure called “Man.”

Now is the first time in history that we are coming to a state when we will be able to rise above the level of our corporeal existence (for the sake of the physical body) to the level where we create a completely different, spiritual structure: a common virtual humanity, where everyone is interconnected and mutually complete one another. And this single integrated mechanism, the so-called Adam, which is the prototype of the collective human being in the world, provides us with the opportunity to attain all the forces of nature, all its depths, and use them the right way.

So, by no means do we destroy or neutralize the egoism; on the contrary, we rejoice in all of its negative manifestations, like a sculptor who finds a good material to make a sculpture. Of course he is looking at a lot of work to shape it into a specific form. But he is glad that this material has landed in his hands.

It’s the same with us. The revelation of egoism is the new material with which I can work. And we only need to change the way we use the material and not the actual material—instead of doing something at the expense of others, we need to do it for their sake.

Tackling Youth Unemployment

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from CNBC): “Young people should work for free for up to two years to gain experience, youth and business leaders said at the World Economic Forum in Davos Thursday.

“A new UN resolution to enshrine the importance of a couple of years of voluntary work for young people was urged by delegates including Maurice Lévy, chairman and chief executive of Publicis Groupe, as part of a CNBC-moderated debate on how to avert a lost generation of unemployed youth.

“The world needs 600 million new jobs in the next decade to cope with a rising population and the effects of the financial crisis, according to figures released earlier this week by the International Labor Organization.”

My Comment: In this way, capitalists want to put the problem of unemployment on the shoulders of society. Moreover, they wish the state to support the unemployed. But the world will not need new workers; on the contrary, unemployment will increase. A person should be engaged not in useless work that costs much more than the unemployment benefits, but in what will really help the community: in educating everybody about cooperation and mutual guarantee, which will bring society to balance with nature and will benefit the world.

Depression Is The Best Advisor

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (From snob.ru): “Patients with depression tend to evaluate themselves and the possible turn of events more realistically, whereas healthy people tend to overestimate.

“The down side of depression includes sadness, apathy, and loss of appetite; however, those who suffer from depression are notably better at making decisions than healthy people because they are more prone to analysis and to being more cautious.

“Cognitive problems are better solved by people with medium level of depression. Depression humanizes a person and makes him more moral. In a manic state a person can be violent and heartless, but in a state of depression one becomes sensitive and compassionate.

“While all of this is comforting, it does not justify depression.”

My Comment: Kabbalah develops one’s ability to be in two opposite states simultaneously. For instance, a person can feel joy and sadness simultaneously because alongside of his egoism, Kabbalah also develops his qualities of bestowal and compassion. This constantly expands a person’s perception and awareness of the world and allows him or her to be fulfilled by it while never becoming empty. This is impossible to achieve through our inherent egoistic qualities.

The UN Warns Of Another Global Economic Crisis

Dr. Michael LaitmanReport (World Economic Situation and Prospects Monthly BriefingUN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA)): “The world economy is teetering on the brink of another major downturn. Output growth already slowed considerably to an estimated 2.8 per cent in 2011. Based on relatively optimistic baseline assumptions, the United Nations foresees world gross product (WGP) growth of 2.6 per cent for 2012 and 3.2 per cent for 2013. If the European sovereign debt crisis were to spin out of control and the weaknesses in the United States economy interact to create a downward spiral, the world economy could plunge into a double-dip recession. Alternatively, policy coordination that boosts aggregate demand and more directly attacks unemployment could improve prospects for economic growth.”

My Comment: Who said that the rate of economic growth is an indication of a crisis? How much more does it have to grow? Growth needs to be qualitative, not quantitative! It is necessary to stop thoughtlessly producing, selling, buying, and discarding, just to once again produce, sell, buy, and discard. It’s necessary to regulate the planet’s economy to produce whatever is needed to satisfy everyone, and not more than that.

We should stop considering an increase in the production rate as growth; instead growth is our ability to satisfy everyone’s needs for food, medicine, heat, safety, and housing. We need to free people from unnecessary and harmful work and obligate them to dedicate the freed up time to learning about integration, the new rules of the world community—the mutual guarantee. Otherwise, we will face not a second, but a never-ending crisis until we smarten up.

Germany – Weather And Financial Crisis

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from gismeteo.ru): “Exotic plants in Germany are turning green and strawberries are being harvested in November. Drought in the fall is a rare occurrence. The national park is burning in Bavaria. Fire is destroying unique forests, the Rhine has become so shallow that there are places where it can be crossed without getting feet wet.

“Traffic arteries have gone dry, ships are not able to transport the ordered shipments. Flocks of disoriented ducks are circling in the sky, who should have gone South a long time ago—and  nothing points to the fact that there are floods and stormy winds 300 kilometers to the North.”

My Comment: Bavarians have nothing to worry about: Global warming is already being replaced with global cooling, the peak of the warming of the planet has already passed, and now the cooling will begin. Though honestly, no one knows how it will progress as there is a large amount of greenhouse gasses….

Gathering Beneath The Wings Of The Shechina

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf we are talking about the spiritual vessel, meaning about unity or an embrace like beneath one cloak or one umbrella, then this is only possible on the condition that we have the Creator as a partner bracing our embrace together, uniting us like a mother unites all of her children under the “wings of the Shechina.Otherwise we won’t be able to do anything.

Without this, it all goes no farther than one, short instant, during which we feel a willingness to unite, yell and scream. But in reality, connection is possible only when we do it together with the upper force.

We all came out of Bina, broke into its levels, and lost the force of Bina. That is why we separated. And now we have to recover this force of bestowal, Bina. The whole world of correction (Atzilut) and the worlds of BYA are under the control of Partzuf SAG, the upper mother. And if we get under Her wings, we will be able to unite. We only have to ask Her to take care of us, like demanding fledglings.

Cool Water For A Soul Tormented By Thirst

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Is one’s proximity to spirituality measured by the love that is felt in one’s heart? And if we don’t feel love, does that mean we are not in spirituality?

Answer: Spirituality begins when a person feels that it is inside of his mutual connection with the friends whom he sets apart from the entire rest of the world for this reason. There he feels his new, different existence, which is different from the previous—inside of this connection, in which there are no calculations besides connection and mutuality, where they all embrace the Creator together.

They embrace the very quality of bestowal that reigns in them, which they desire to reveal. They want to feel such joy from it as if they are immersing in cool water on a grueling, hot day. In the same way, we want to feel the quality of bestowal filling us.
