Opinion (Timi Ećimović, PhD, professor and Chairman for life of the SEM Institute for Climate Change): “Money, a human invention, is rooted in ancient history, but it took only a half a century in the 20^th century to turn from a assistant to a master – and at the beginning of the 21^st century, our civilization became secondary in importance after the master money, which has turned from a master into a monster.

“But the entire power of this money monster is not enough to curb climate change, and people need to find a way to achieve a sustainable future without the domination of the money monster, but in the context of sustainable development and harmony with the biosphere of the Earth. The sustainable future of humanity is the harmony between the human and nature/the biosphere of the planet Earth.”

My Comment: We are weak before the power of money, but climatic and other environmental changes will force humanity to change its behavior.

Baal HaSulam, Shamati #59 “About the Rod and the Serpent”: However, if one’s mind does not attain it, but resists one’s mind, then one should say that the faith is of superior importance to one’s mind. It follows that at that time one lowers one’s mind, and says that what he understands within reason, that he resists the path of the Creator, that faith is more important than his mind. This is because all the concepts that contradict the path of the Creator are worthless concepts.

Rather, “that have eyes, and see not, that have ears, and hear not.” It means that one annuls everything that one hears and sees, and this is called going above reason.

If I try to acquire powers from the environment and from the Creator and keep following the spiritual path, although it seems useless and hopeless, it means that I work in faith and in bestowal since I disregard what my mind tells me.

I may still hope to receive what I desire at some point, that I will see some benefit later on, although I don’t see it now. In that case, I work within reason as I simply accept a certain extension and hope to see everything around the corner.

I also may perceive this as an opportunity to give up the reward, to rise to the level of bestowal and to follow this path without any account of future self-benefit and without any hope of receiving something in the future. I don’t even want to have such hopes, but simply want to carry on knowing that there is nothing in it for me and that there will not be anything, and still I do it so that, together with the friends, we will delight the Creator.

From this point, I have the right to ask for powers. I mustn’t look for any material support when feeling despair, like, “Later I will see. Things will surely open up for me. Redemption will come since it comes all at once, suddenly.” This is how people who invest in the stock market feel when the stocks fall, hoping for a future rise, calming themselves that there is comfort in the trouble of many.

However, we have seized this moment of despair in order to say that, “I don’t see any reward, and it is all one big misfortune in which there is nothing for me, and it is good that it is so!” My reward is in the fact that I can now perform actions without any reward. I will receive the fuel from Above.

I am given such conditions now that there is no reason for me to move and I have no fuel to move with. My machine won’t work without fuel, but now I must receive fuel from Above. I understand that I need the Creator and will demand these powers from Him.

These are several delicate points here that will be clarified  in the future.

Baal HaSulam, “Inheritance of the Land”: Israel will not return to their land until they will all be in one group.

Question: How does one get a desire to return to the spiritual land of Israel?

Answer: The desire grows through the Klipot (shells), it is processed and transformed into a desire, Yashar-El (straight to the Creator).

The physical land of Israel cannot bear fruit, meaning that it cannot hold people on it if they don’t realize the purpose of creation. And so if the Jewish people abandon this area, nobody can live here. Even the Arabs near us, who have been relatively more successful compared to the Arab nations, will not be able to continue without the Jews.

In general, the present condition is arranged with the expectation and hope that the Jewish people will begin to correct themselves and come into compliance with the land of Israel. It is precisely this condition that makes it possible for the Jews and the Arabs to exist here in the meantime. But if the Jewish people will not realize its mission, they will need to leave this land, regardless of the reasons.

And since other nations cannot hold on here either, this land will be destroyed in wars, like Syria is today, and even worse.

Question: What if a person wants to be in the land of Israel, but is not attracted to the spiritual land of Israel?

Answer: The aspiration to be in the physical land of Israel is worse than being outside of the land. Instead of being here in the physical land of Israel and not corresponding to the concept of the “land of Israel,” it is better to live somewhere else.

As it is understood, this doesn’t mean that a person should remain abroad. The idea is that he must correct himself and be in his own internal land of Israel, with the desire Yashar-El (straight to the Creator), for unity, for connection, for love of others. In contrast to this, people who live here are still not corrected and create problems for themselves all the time.

Indeed nobody in this world, except for us, has free choice, for we exist with two forces. We have a much greater ego than all of the nations of the world, and we have a spiritual spark. And between these two forces we can choose which way to go. The nations of the world are run only by a single desire to receive. The desire that attracts them is what runs them.

So we don’t have anything to demand and there isn’t anyone from whom to demand it. In fact, we don’t depend upon people like Secretary of State Kerry or President Obama at all. There is no reason to expect justice or true solidarity from them, since they are also run from Above. We depend only on maintaining or not maintaining the program of creation. Only connection between us can improve our condition.

And so if you want to live in the land of Israel, you must know that in order to come and live here, you must change yourself according to the land of Israel. This is indeed a unique land that swallows its inhabitants if they don’t correspond to its essence.

In the meantime we are living here, so to speak, by the grace of the Elyon (Upper One), and it is simply given to us for a time in order to correct ourselves. According to that same principle, after going out of Egypt, the Jewish people received an “entry permit” to the land of Israel only on condition that they would live “as one man with one heart,” according to the general rule, “And you shall love your friend as yourself.”

Only if we will live in unity will we have the right to be here. The people were given forty years in the desert to prepare themselves for the level of Bina. And then they needed to conquer this land, which means the people received desires that they needed to conquer. Working with them was very difficult.

Question: Why do our neighbors also have a desire for this land?

Answer: Because this land is beautiful and good. Indeed, the Jews here developed it. But the moment they leave, it will again become a wasteland.

And so the people who want to live here are run by the Creator. And for the Jews, this desire is given in a free form to make their desire like His desire. The entire difference is in our free choice. And the nations behave precisely according to the balance of forces within us.

Question: Baal HaSulam writes that the complete redemption will come “in our day.” How can he predict things like this, how does he see them?

Answer: Baal HaSulam saw this state, but was a bit mistaken about the time. The idea is that a Kabbalist is not a predictor of the future.

A psychic can predict a precise date and say what will happen. He doesn’t know why this happens and doesn’t know the reason, but there are such people in our world, like the famous soothsayer in Russia, Wolf Messing, who could predict exactly when an event would happen.

They don’t know from where they take this information. A particular intention is required, an inner concentration, and then the knowledge comes. But a Kabbalist doesn’t see in this form; he sees what is happening in the spiritual world. And he doesn’t really see the physical clothing, so he can be mistaken about his vision as to when this state will materialize by a number of years.

But it is possible to be sure that Baal HaSulam saw that we are before the last, complete redemption that will happen in our days. What is “in our days”? It could be in another twenty years, who knows?

And the Kabbalists don’t give much importance to these dates. What does it matter if everything is in the hands of heaven and you are trying to do everything possible? So everyone continues with his part and the part of his friend, and however it unfolds, it unfolds. After that, there is no longer any sorrow, rather there is great happiness because you are in a system that is bringing you the justification of your existence.

Question: What does it mean to complete my work and to exit the domination of the shells (Klipot)?

Answer: It means that a person isn’t dominated by egoistic intentions anymore. Thus you complete the first phase of your work and enter the next phase, which is the work in the two dimensions of receiving and bestowal, or in two lines.

There are two levels that you move between, as you fall into impurity and then into holiness. Holding on to the middle line means working with both the right line and the left line.

You don’t erase any desires. It’s impossible to ascend the spiritual ladder without the vessels of receiving. The ladder is built of a desire to receive that is gradually revealed to you as it opens up before you and you discover it each time with the intention of in order to bestow.

You make an effort and, for a moment, feel that you are in bestowal, but then you fall once again into receiving. It’s impossible to advance otherwise. It’s actually by such changes inside you that you understand that you are in bestowal.

The spiritual world is not a fixed state, but consists of changes that occur at an enormous frequency. You constantly swing: right – left, right – left, and this is how your middle line is created.

If your states don’t change, you are dead and you don’t exist. It’s just like a ray of light that cannot be stopped or motion or life in general. The moment you stop them, they disappear. It isn’t death but simply ceasing to exist.

All of creation is in order to exist and what is more, to resemble the Creator. So, it has to constantly change its states. It’s impossible to stop an electron or an atom, because they have to constantly be like in two states at the same time.

It is, in fact, one state. The more we study matter we begin to understand that it’s not particles, but clouds, force fields. Nothing is definite, not the minus nor the plus. This is how they are perceived by our senses, but in fact it’s something that moves at an infinite speed between the two.

The desire to receive cannot exist by itself. It exists only thanks to the fact that it changes and something is created between the changes, which is the desire to bestow. It exists in the middle, and so it has to constantly move at an infinite speed. Life is motion.

The three states exist simultaneously. You can accept it or not, but this is our reality. Physicists are starting to discover this today, although they don’t know why it is so.

Question: You say that all of the problems and questions need to be brought to a group and solved there. We can turn to the Creator with a request only through the center of the group. But the thing is that I don’t know what this center of the group is. I have looked for it and haven’t found it.

Answer: You want it, you find it! You can ask the Creator only from the center of the group.

When you feel that you are all connected together, then this shared feeling will bring you to the wavelength of a connection with the Creator. Otherwise everything is in vain, He doesn’t hear! You are working on a different frequency.

Turning to the Creator through the center of the group means that you and the group adhere together, there is nothing that divides you, and you melt into it. Everything depends on you. The group is always in a perfected state. Externally it can be in a big dispute with gloomy states of hatred, but internally there is love.

Internally, the group is found in a perfect state of absolute equality. This equality is differential in conformity with many characteristics that we cannot even consider. These include the original data of a person, his opportunities for the moment, what has been arranged for him from Above, and controls how they connect with him from below. It’s impossible to think about the immense quantity of this data, but ultimately, all are equal according to the module.

Question: What is the spiritual root of dance?

Answer: Dancing in a circle where people hold hands symbolizes that in a circle all are equal. And this is its spiritual root.

Holding hands symbolizes our mutual connection and the circle shows equality and wholeness, since in our world there is no image more complete than a circle or a sphere. So men dancing in a circle is derived from spiritual roots.

With my teacher, Rabash, the students danced only in a circle, holding hands. Moreover, they always went around from right to left, counter clockwise, because the right line comes first, and after that the left line, and then the middle line.

Sometimes individuals would enter the center of the circle and dance within it. This symbolized that precisely within the circle a person can feel a unique spiritual state. All the other kinds of dances belong to modern forms and don’t have spiritual roots.

The Torah, “Leviticus,” 5:2-5:3: Or if a person touches anything unclean, whether it is the carcass of an unclean wild animal, or the carcass of unclean domestic animal, or the carcass of an unclean creeping animal, and it was hidden from him, he incurs guilt. Or if he touches the uncleanness of a human, with any uncleanness through which he may become defiled, and it is hidden from him and [later] he knows, he has incurred guilt.

Touching symbolizes nearness and contact. In the spiritual world, closeness between two states takes place according to the degree of compatible attributes. Contact is when there is at least one similar part between two spiritual states or objects, which means sharing one common attribute, and then they are in contact.

But this closeness can be a big problem. The point is that there is absolute egoism and absolute altruism. If the altruism is corrupted in any way, it begins to come closer to egoism, although there should be a certain distance between them. If altruism can sustain itself in a normal state and perform actions of love and bestowal, the ego doesn’t prevent it, since altruism places it under its restriction (Tzimtzum).

But if altruism grows weak, it begins to draw closer to the ego in the spiritual space. Then a point of contact is formed between them, which means an attribute similar to egoism arose in altruism, and the two connect. The egoistic intentions can pour through this common attribute and a person doesn’t even feel what is happening to him.

Therefore, the Torah says that a person cannot forget what happens to him. There must be a detachment, a distance between the different egoistic attributes from altruism, and accordingly, we need to perform a correction in order to separate them again, which means to burn the egoistic attributes, bury them, or throw them out of the camp, which means outside the borders of our unity. There are very clear instructions as to how to detach from the ego internally and guard ourselves from it.

Question: In our world, a person usually cannot resist contact with the ego, no matter what oath he makes. He may swear, for example, to remain clean and not to take a bribe, and then suddenly fall.

Answer: No one can be absolutely clean. I am not trying to protect anyone, but it says: “Don’t trust yourself until your dying day,” which means until the death of your ego. But we should do everything that matches the spiritual laws and then you can guard yourself. The main thing is that the group, the society you are in, can guard you.

The group itself can guard and protect you only in mutual relations since it connects internally by the help of the upper force, the general force that everyone discovers in their attitude towards one another, by working for others.
