Questions about Spiritual Work—148

560Question: What should prayer be like? After all, we must ask the Creator not only to take away suffering and, through this, to better connect with Him, but also to correct the shortcomings that caused this suffering.

Answer: No, we only need to think about how to change our relationship toward suffering and where it comes from.

Question: If we pray for help for a suffering friend, is the entire ten undergoing a general correction of our connections?

Answer: Yes, you must join as if immersed in it. Then everyone can give a little strength to reduce the friend’s suffering.

Question: With thoughts and feelings that you are in sadness, trouble, pain, and grief, do we show dissatisfaction with the Creator?

Answer: In general, this is true. You just need to figure out why you are dissatisfied and why the Creator wants to give you such a state. What can you do about it? How do you get out of this state? It is your job.

Question: What is the factor that influences the feeling of the Creator’s answer to prayer?

Answer: It is as much as I am connected am I with my friends and I can connect myself with them to have one united Kli.

Don’t Think about Yourself

527.03Question: I have a feeling that getting closer to the Creator is dangerous because it results in a fear of deep disappointment. At first, the Creator draws you near and you feel close to your friends and to the Creator, but then it becomes very painful when He seemingly pushes you away from Himself. And then you do not want to get close to Him at all. How can this path be evened out?

Answer: Don’t think about yourself; think about pleasing the Creator with your actions.

Question: But that seems unrealistic. If I feel rejected by Him, how can I even think about Him? Should I do it artificially?

Answer: No, not artificially but naturally. Try, and one day it will work out.

The Basis of the Common Soul

938.01Question: Is the Temple our properly built relationship?

Answer: It is our correct common soul that we reveal among ourselves.

Question: What is the basis of this common soul? After all, a building collapses if the foundation is unstable.

Answer: Yes, the same is true in our case. The basis of the common soul is our egoism that we glue and hold in connection with each other because each of us annuls himself before the other.

So Truth Will Live in Us

961.2Question: A person who works in our world group or simply often comes to meetings and days of unity sees more images that are closer to the truth than someone who bothers more about corporeality and sees more false images. Does it turn out that someone who connects more often with friends has an easier path to determining the truth for himself?

Answer: No, in no way is his path easier or faster. In order to reach the spiritual level, one needs to go all out, to do some work. Only in this case will you gain access to some spiritual level, and then to the next one, and so on.

So, it does not matter where you live or who you are connected with. All that matters is your inner need for the sense of truth. You need to constantly direct yourself to ensure that the truth lives in you.

Therefore, you should constantly monitor yourself.

Question: Who can help in a situation when a person cares about corporeality more than he needs and loses this facet of truth?

Answer: No, he will not be allowed to immediately escape from spiritual advancement. There are such “guards” on the path that keep us in spirituality.

The Creator Hears Everything

243.04Question: What is the difference in the perception of the Creator’s light between various people? Does it depend only on efforts or on some properties the Creator gives?

It seems that some people feel the light without making an effort and some, on the contrary, cannot come to feel it through their efforts.

Answer: The Creator reveals Himself in both ways. Therefore, we need to make efforts, and how the Creator advances us toward Himself is His business. The main thing is to ask Him to draw us toward Himself.

Question: Does the Creator hear our desires or the strength and effort in our desires?

Answer: The Creator hears everything, all our nuances, what we want to receive, what we turn to Him with, etc.

The Response of the Integral System

75.01On the negative side, if a part of the nation does not want to keep the Arvut, but to wallow in self-love, they cause the rest of the nation to remain immersed in their filth and lowliness without finding a way out of their filth. Baal HaSulam, Article “The Arvut [Mutual Guarantee]” .

We exist with one another in integral connection, and it creates both positive and negative problems.

The positive component is that we help one another and complement one another. The negative one is that if someone lacks something in the integral group, then everyone suffers.

Therefore, the fact that nature made us integrally connected is good and bad. It is good in the sense that each of us adds to the common Kli, while the bad thing is that when we do not give, we steal from this Kli.

One has to understand that the integral spiritual Kli is very sensitive and reacts to changes of everyone whether positive or negative.

The State of “Egypt”

747.03After the Kabbalistic group left Egypt, its serious development began. Before this, there was practically no spiritual development since the most essential thing that manifested during this period that we all go through is the growth of egoism.

After that, we can start talking about corrections. That is, we have acquired egoism and begin to feel that it is not easy for us to connect with our friends. We are not ready to be in the same harness with them.

Therefore, we need an upper force that will unite us over egoism. This higher power can be called “Creator,” “Pharaoh,” or “Egypt”; it does not matter what. And here our work begins.

Baal HaSulam, in the article “The Arvut (Mutual Guarantee)”, writes that, However, while they were still mingled with the Egyptians, a portion of their needs was necessarily given into the hands of these savages, permeated with self-love.

What is he trying to say? While we are in egoism we cannot achieve complete connection because between us are our egoistic desires—the Egyptians.
