To Find the Missing Half of the Vessel

534We constantly work with our egoistic desire, which acts according to its natural property, the desire to receive fulfillment, our only matter. We await the light of correction to come and add an intention for the sake of bestowal to this desire.

We must separate desire and intention. With the desire to enjoy, I always have the opportunity to work and advance. As it says, “Do everything within your power.” But the intention to give to others or to the Creator comes as a result of the influence of the surrounding light. That is what we need to ask for.

That is, I already have half of the spiritual vessel, the desire to enjoy. I am not neglecting or annulling it, I just want to change its intention. If a person correctly separates his attitude toward action and intention, he will always be able to perform some actions and do work, both when spirituality attracts him and when it does not. But the force of unity that was formed in the past helps him.

He will always be able to raise a prayer, a request, for the right intention, so that it joins his action, and determines his spiritual quality. That is how a person advances.

Once he begins to understand more, feel more, and enter the spiritual world, he sees that there is not much difference between the spiritual and the material. It only takes a psychological change in a person to experience the spiritual.

We are not required to cross out our entire past life or override all our basis. We just need to extract the intention from all this and try to bring it to correction.

Therefore a person is happy that he came out of Egypt and brought with him many vessels, desires, and much strength. On the other hand, he is full of selfish intentions, and feels that they are the opposite of the truth. That is what he is starting to work on now. From this state, work begins. Therefore it is considered the point of spiritual birth.

We feel as “You Stand Today, All of You” before the Creator, with our corrupt desires, which we can present to Him as ready for correction.

The Source of Beliefs and Teachings

249.01Only after servants of the Creator expanded did the posterity of the agnostics become idealists (Baal HaSulam, “The Writings of the Last Generation“).

The science of Kabbalah teaches that as people unite, they must achieve such unity where a single force of nature would be revealed according to the principle of similarity of form. In nature, this force descends into our world from the top down, and we must become like it, rising from the bottom up.

If we make ourselves into one unified system of desires, aspirations, and mutual help, we will begin to feel the upper force.

But if we simply use the very idea of properly uniting people without associating it with the upper force, brotherly mutual aid, “man is man’s friend, comrade and brother,” and so on, then we immediately slip into communism, socialism, and other “isms.”

All philosophies ultimately originated in Kabbalah. Medieval philosophers wrote about this, as well as Mirandola, German philosophers, and others.

In addition, all the so-called “religions” and all kinds of movements have emerged from Kabbalah. From the idea of consolidating people and building the right community, social psychology emerged, along with methods of unification and related approaches.

People Are Created to Govern the World

294.4Question: According to your words, it turns out that people are created in order to govern this world? These lowly beings, as you say?

Answer: Yes. They are created to be the crown of creation, to govern the world, to implore the Creator to influence our world with the quality of good, which, from the side of the human being, from the side of people, of humanity, they will support with all their strength. They must allow the qualities of love and bestowal, goodness and compassion, to be revealed in the world.

Question: Do they therefore have to pass through this lowliness?

Answer: Yes, to recognize their nature, suppress it within themselves, and come to need the opposite nature—the nature of the Creator.

Question: And this is the path?

Answer: Yes.

Question: How does a person come to realize that this is the path?

Answer: Through suffering. There is nothing to be done. Through the realization of the insignificance of one’s own forces, qualities, and abilities.

The Creator awaits our turning to Him for help, our asking Him for the quality of goodness, bestowal, and love, and by this we rise to His level.

And This World Will Melt Away Like a Fog

707Today, we have come to a state in which millions of people around the world have begun to ask questions: “Why are we suffering? Why do we live? What is the purpose of our life? Does nature have some kind of program in regard to us?”

That is why the science of Kabbalah is now being revealed; it is precisely this science that can provide answers to these questions. Overall, all these answers come down to one thing: Kabbalah reveals a different reality to us.

The science of Kabbalah is a method of revealing the upper reality, i.e., a reality beyond ourselves, beyond what we currently sense. From this, each of us needs to pass through a certain inner barrier that obscures that second half of reality from us in which we already exist even now.

It is as if a light suddenly turns on, and we see that there is something else here. And this is indeed so. Only it is not the light we are used to that turns on, but the upper light, and in it we begin to see another reality that was previously dark, invisible, and imperceptible, namely, the reality of the upper world.

Only then will we understand what is happening in it and all the reasons for what is happening, that is, what our essence is. And already here, in the upper world, we will see that we are souls, not physical bodies, not the animate part that exists in us. We are the part of the human in us that is eternal, perfect and is a divine particle from above.

We are eternal, perfect creations, living in a different reality and in a different form of existence. Our purpose is to ascend and live in the upper, spiritual, eternal world, beyond the limitations of time, movement, and space, as well as of our perception of reality.

And what will happen to this world? For some time, this world will also continue to exist, until we attain the upper reality. And according to the measure of the attainment of the higher degree of the spiritual world, the reality of the lower degree will fade and become less and less discernible until it disappears completely.

Kabbalists say that we must come to this here and now, in this life, in our world. At the same time, nothing should change except the revelation of the upper world for us.

From a Dry Seed to a Fruit-Bearing Tree

527A person goes through various stages in their spiritual development. Initially they are like something lifeless; they join a group that begins to influence him and develop them,  but they are not yet capable of independent actions and do not understand where they actually are.

Several years pass this way, until they realize that there is work to be done and they need to act actively, and constantly clarify which direction they are looking. From that moment, they cease to be inanimate and turns into a plant. They begin to grow on their own, through self-care, thanks to connection with others, following the teacher’s advice, and attentiveness to the path.

They try by themselves to put themselves under the influence of the environment, as they have realized that this group is not merely a gathering of people, but that it possesses a special inner force that is necessary for their development. Thus, they become a “plant,” and they begin to draw forces from the group, like from soil, in order to integrate with them even more strongly. They understand that fruit appears on a mature tree, and the tree grows only on the condition that a person integrates into the group.

And as they grow, they desire to receive the fruits, which are connection, love, mutual bestowal, and the revelation of the common force of bestowal in which the Creator is revealed. All of this is still on the vegetative level.

But then there is also the animate level, when they are already able to govern and take on part of the responsibility for the connection among all. This is no longer a “tree” rooted in one place and passive relative to the person who tends it.

The human degree within a person is the one who tends the tree. Yet the animate degree within a person is already not just a tree, but one that itself strives to grow and tries to actively participate in the entire system. A person sees the common flaws and tries to correct them. He sees not only how to correct himself and passively integrate into the system, but also how to help others, through which he becomes included in the general connections and corrections. This can be attributed to the animate degree.

And then there is the human degree, when, according to his actions, he already adheres to the Creator. It turns out that the foundation of all our development is the tending of the “tree.”

To begin with, this is enough to divide life into the material and the spiritual. To the material world one should give what is necessary—no more and no less. And to spiritual work—all the rest, without limitation.

The Confrontation Between Rome and Jerusalem

419Question: Why was Europe previously a kind of benchmark for other countries?

Answer: Because the Roman Empire passed on to it its ideas, its laws, its attitude to reality, nature, and society to all of Europe after conquering it. In essence, it founded all of Europe, including England.

Comment: But Romans also got their ideas from somewhere.

My Response: The Roman’s nature was based on the opposite to Jerusalem. They followed an egoistic path of development, a complete rejection of religion, a harsh, as if it were, realistic attitude toward the world and the building of society according to certain canons that lie at the foundation of Roman law.

Roman law has not been abolished. No matter what we hang on it externally, internally we are still based on ancient Roman law. And it is absolutely opposite to Jewish law.

This stems from the ancient confrontation of worlds: Rome and Jerusalem. Rome rose and truly flourished in its conquests precisely upon the destruction of Jerusalem. This is an egoistic, natural, and correct from the point of view of our world, development of humanity up to its recognition of itself as absolutely flawed.

In our time, it has reached its full egoistic bloom, and we see that by doing this we are bringing ourselves to a dead end; there is no way to move any further. Egoism has outlived itself. It began to develop in Ancient Rome, and now this period is coming to an end.

The next stage will be the realization that development must be altruistic. People will have no other choice. Regardless of whether they want it or not, despite their hatred of Judaism, they will accept Kabbalah, the very idea of connection, the merging of everyone into one single system. Life and nature will force everyone. But today we are at this point of history.

Therefore, on the one hand, Kabbalah is revealed as a method of uniting humanity. Without it, you will not be able to unite people because egoism will not allow us to do so. Only Kabbalah can give us the strength to rise above the ego.

On the other hand, we see a declining Europe, whose Roman legacy is already coming to an end.

Question: So the experiment of creation began with the Roman Empire, when egoism began to develop in opposition to the spiritual?

Answer: Yes, of course. From here came the three main religions and everything else.

And now a very clear reassessment and revaluation of values is beginning. There is no way around it, we will be obliged to take the universal unification and revelation of the Creator as our foundation rather than all religions and beliefs, and instead of everything that we are told and that we imagine for ourselves.

Not by Force, but with the Whole Heart

253Today we observe a very interesting phenomenon in the development of nature. For the first time in history, we are developing not blindly as before when our egoism was pushing us forward and forcing us to break through in all kinds of possible directions. We used to suddenly make some discovery in one area, in another one, in third one and thousands of people would engage into this, develop, and promote the produced goods one to another. This was the way of progress.

Suddenly there is a total standstill, as if for the first time we have to face the truth and figure out: What has happened, where have we come? Our children already do not take our example and seemingly they ask: Why did you give birth to us, what do we live for? But we ourselves cannot answer this question. We kept running and running constantly without a stop. Suddenly we have stopped and we are thinking: “But where should we run, what for, what is happening, where did we end up?”

We look around and become horrified. This is some dry, lifeless desert where there is nothing. And the most interesting is that what is required of us first and foremost is to understand and realize the state we have come to as a result of our entire history of development. Everyone has to recognize it and understand it; without it one will not be able to reach mutual participation with the others.

Some time ago this was the prerogative of the chosen few; a few scientists, politicians, sages, a king or some other ruler gave commands how to advance forward and established laws.

However, today we are beginning to reveal the law that has to be realized by every one of us. You cannot act differently; therefore, you need education. It is impossible to enforce this law by force, by issuing fines or imprisoning everyone who does not obey it.

It will not happen this way! A person is obliged to put his heart in the execution of it, in his connection with others. This is not a calculation of buy-sell: how much I give you and you give me. This is the uniqueness of the new state that many people write about, which reveals that there is some process beginning from scratch in our time that belongs to the different level of development.

This is called human development in which we are building a mutual system of connections between us,  the image of one unified human being. It is impossible for anyone to refuse to join it whether he lives on the other end of the world or in Manhattan or in Europe. We are obligated to deliver this to everyone. After all, if everyone depends on everyone, we have no choice.

First of all, it has to be a real transformation in the upbringing of children, the new generation. At least the next generation will start a new life, beautiful, balanced, filled with mutual participation, secure, and self-assured. No one will be selling drugs to a kid, no one will force him to sell his body or will not beat him up.

Look at what we have done to our children; they are a precise copy of ourselves. We are unable to do anything with ourselves and therefore we cannot save our children so they would grow to be different people. How can I demand my child to be different if I am myself the same?

Therefore, we look at our children and we see that we are losing them. They turn out even worse than we are. But in essence, they continue the same pattern. I cannot call them bad. If I am rolling down a slope then they are just rolling a bit ahead of me, since this is the next generation.

However, we have an opportunity to seriously understand this, to go through all stages of the inner revolution with the help of this course and switch to the new path because life is forcing us and not because some smart head invented it.

We have to check everything where we can get help from science, psychology, experience from our everyday life and see together how we can build a new world. After all, our unique course is intended exactly for this purpose.

629.3Comment: In practice, I see what children in Israel are like; there is a complete lack of respect for adults, of upbringing

My Response: That is the most wonderful thing that could be. And not because I am saying this as an Israeli, but because when a small person does not want to listen to a big one, that is already a good beginning.

But what does “does not want” mean? It comes from his nature. He feels absolutely independent, disregards all your values, and does not want to have anything to do with them. He wants to discover something new for himself.

I am not talking about what is happening here. Honestly, I have not yet seen such an ideal picture, but I would be very happy if the younger generation did not listen to the older one at all. At the same time, they should have the ability to analyze and find their view point for themselves, a world view that is intent, piercing, penetrating, and clear, so that they would look at the goal through everyone—where is it? Only then can they correctly use everything around them.

This does not yet exist in education. But the egoism we see in the new generation gives hope that we are approaching this. And when they come to power in the mass media and in society, I think that by then, we will already be able to help them understand that Kabbalah is precisely a means for searching for the purpose of life and for realizing it.
