What Is Shavuot?

The Supreme Delight Of The Soul

laitman_239Torah, Deuteronomy 23:07: You shall not ever seek out their welfare or their good, all your days.

Egoistic desires, called “Ammonites or Moabites,” reveal on each level of the ladder we ascend. And each time they are new and more powerful .

All the 125 levels are similar to each other; they only differ in power and volume of positive and negative properties, properties of the right and the left line, and the number of details involved. In principle, the power of the level depends on the number of desires and intentions.

When we ascend, our state becomes very integrated and complex, and it is in this complexity, comprising all of its pluses, minuses, all the power of our connection, we find perfection.

It is from the closure of millions of various kinds of forces, intentions, and acts—from the beginning of creation, the middle, and again from the beginning, from the end, etc.—that the perfection of the Creator is attained. Full disclosure of the mechanics of the Creator’s interaction with the desire that He created is the supreme delight of the soul.

About this it is said that “The righteous sit and enjoy the radiance of the Shechina.” After all , the upper Light of wisdom fills the entire creation, shimmers and shines. This attainment comprises the highest meaning and supreme delight the soul feels.

Shavuot: What Is The Torah Really Meant For?

The Torah is not a set of rules we must observe in order to appease a fearsome God, nor is it a collection of tales that may or may not have happened. So what is it really meant for?

Scanning Desires

laitman_571_03It is written in the Torah, “When you go out to war.” A person goes out to war with his desires and scans all 613 desires by reviewing them in himself. This means “Moses appeals to the people.”

Moses is a point in the heart, the only thing that we have from the spiritual level. It also needs to be corrected because Moses developed in the house of Pharaoh (in egoism). And then, as he is corrected, he can already lead all the other desires of a person.

The correction of Moses occurs before the rise above egoism, in Egypt, and therefore, after leaving Jethro, he begins to reveal the Creator.

The Creator tells him, “Come to Pharaoh.” This means that Moses already feels two forces in him, the quality of bestowal (the Creator) and the quality of reception (Pharaoh), and lives and works between. From the moment he hears the voice of the Creator coming from the burning bush, he begins to act in these two directions.

A person through his Moses reviews all the desires within himself and clarifies which of them he should correct and which ones to put aside in order to come back to them and work with them on the different degrees.

Therefore, the Torah (from the word “Oraa” – “instruction”) is an instruction for each person that explains what his actions should be.

“So That He May Lie Down To Sleep In His Garment”

laitman_625_05Torah, Deuteronomy 24:12 – 24:13: And if he is a poor man, you shall not lie down [to sleep] with his security. You shall return the security to him by sunset, so that he may lie down [to sleep] in his garment…

Clothes, the dressing of the soul, is a restriction, a screen (Masach), and Returning Light that is in what you receive the soul. Without the garment, you can’t sense it within yourself.

The rich and poor are two Partzufim, upper and lower. Fulfillment of the poor (lower) depends on the rich (upper) that is obliged to give everything to the lower for the fulfillment of the soul. This means “to return a deposit.”

If the upper has a screen that he must transfer to the lower, he doesn’t have a right to delay it, especially at night, because otherwise the lower will find himself in the dark without the means to cope with the darkness, that is, in an egoistic desire. The upper must take care of him, because he has the screen that he can transfer to the lower. This screen is called a garment.

It is written, “You shall return the security to him by sunset, so that he may lie down to sleep in his garment,” in other words, so that he would have protection from egoism.

From the material point of view, it can be interpreted as if a person must sleep dressed in clothes. Indeed, even according to the Torah you must change for the night in some kind of shelter, for example, under the blanket, because like roots and branches, without clothes you become naked.

From the spiritual point of view, “naked” is an inner state when you lose the garment and the Inner Light and the soul disappears from you immediately. You become food for Klipot (impure desires). All your desires immediately turn into egoistic ones.

Therefore, you can undress only in order to enter the Mikva (a pool for ablution) to clean yourself from egoistic desires and to dress again, meaning to obtain the anti-egoistic screen again, because the body is egoism and the garment on it is the screen.

When You Make A Loan To Your Neighbor…

laitman_622_01Torah, Deuteronomy 24:10 – 24:11: When you lend your fellow [Jew] any item, you shall not enter his home to take his security. You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you are extending the loan shall bring the security to you outside.

The Torah is not speaking about humane interactions between people, instructing you not to enter the house of a person to whom you are making a loan to avoid showing him that you are in charge of the situation, that he owes you. It is not talking about corporeal actions.

To lend means giving forces to egoistic desires in order to allow them to be used for altruistic purposes later.

Entering a house means uniting with the egoistic desire. However, it has to come out and give you that which allows it to be attached to you. Therefore, you have no right to enter the house of the person to whom you are making a loan because then you might be influenced by his egoism since you would be entering his Kli or vessel, his desire, his four phases. The interaction needs to be purely external, and you must take back the loan without a pledge and without interest.

It is written, “stay outside,” where outside refers to property.

There is a distinction between private and public property (such as public squares and streets). Yards are a type of property that belong to several households. There are also properties such as fields that are beyond the city borders but still belong to a particular owner.

There are also properties that do not belong to anyone, meaning that they belong to the public. There are properties that belong to the Cohens (priests), meaning the Temple, and so on. In other words, everything has been appropriated because it all has a spiritual root. The tractate “Shabbat” in the Talmud speaks about this.

This is how our inner world is divided, and thus we see it that way on the outside. In reality, there is no external world—it’s only how we perceive it. If we correct ourselves, we will gradually discover that this is the world where we exist externally as well.

Israel And The Nations Of The World

laitman_749_01Torah, Deuteronomy 23:05: Because they did not greet you with bread and water on the way, when you left Egypt, and because he [the people of Moab] hired Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim against you, to curse you.

The Ammonites and the Moabites could not join the exit from Egypt, which is to rise above the ego, because the people of Israel are those who are trying to get out of egoism. And those who cannot do it are called “other nations.”

Therefore, the seven nations live in the Land of Israel only because they nurture themselves through their roots from the Israelis, but they cannot be corrected. They cannot even cling to correction in any way. These are the desires in a person that do not allow him to make an effort to correct himself in any way, and they have to be killed.

If the seven nations cannot follow the path of correction, then what is left for them? What is left is to destroy Israel, its intention, its movement, and the goal of all humanity’s correction, and then they will feel good.

Basically, all the nations of the world aspire to this, because, in one way or another, they belong to those properties that need to be corrected with the help of a small group of people called “the people of Israel,” who once came out of Babylon.

The rest of Babylon could not go after them—they did not feel a need for it. That is why they can only be corrected with the help of that small group that can rise above themselves. And while the people of Israel go through a long way of rising above, the rest of Babylon lives its own life and develops.

But still, there is a contradiction between the people of Israel and the rest of the world because ideological contradictions on the level of our world are huge. Those who rise above have their own method of conceiving the world, a feeling of inner control of the world, and connection with the power that governs the universe.

Clean Ecology

Laitman_509Torah, Deuteronomy 23:13 – 23:14: And you shall have a designated place outside the camp, so that you can go out there [to use it as a privy]. And you shall keep a stake in addition to your weapons; and it shall be, when you sit down outside [to relieve yourself], you shall dig with it, and you shall return and cover your excrement.

This is about clean ecology, even in those old times. After all, if we recall medieval France or Germany, it was impossible to walk on the streets because slop was poured directly through the windows. There was a terrible stench everywhere that also came from people.

According to the Torah, a person must wash himself at least once a week, and wash his hands before each meal. Why was everyone surprised that the Jews never became infected with anything, and believed that they sent the plague to everyone, but they themselves didn’t get sick? It is because nobody observed the laws of hygiene except the Jews. They are described in the Talmud with such thoroughness that it would be good for us to keep them today.

It even indicates how to wash hands. If you touch body parts that must be covered, you must wash hands after that. And you shouldn’t touch your body at all during prayer.

Question: What does this mean in the internal work?

Answer: It is a very complex thing. Klipot (the impure desires) give us systems for removal of body waste.

The system itself isn’t simple and is very interesting. Why aren’t we created in an optimal way? If I absorb some energy, and it dissolves in me and gives me life, then why should some amount of it be ejected from me to the outside?

And not just from me. This also happens on the vegetative and animal levels because there must be a circulation of any unification in nature. We see it even in inanimate nature: discharge of various gases from stones, radiation and so on.

Waste from most levels can be used as fertilizers. This is a completely closed ecological system. Everything is designed so that one nourishes another.

In spirituality, this means the processing of desires that takes place on several levels: for the sake of the Creator, for the sake of others, through oneself, and so on. Therefore, even in things that a person discharges from himself, there is a connection between him and the general ecological system.

The organism was initially created this way. Even an embryo in its mother’s womb segregates waste that enters the mother, and she releases it from herself.

The Torah: Encrypted Knowledge

Laitman_137Question: Could the wisdom of Kabbalah exist without the Torah?

Answer: The Torah is Kabbalah and not how it was later reinterpreted and altered by people.

The Torah is a Kabbalistic record of the information of the upper world. It seems to us that it talks about historical events in our world, but it has nothing to do with them, and talks only about what is happening in the form of the forces of the upper world.

The Torah is written in the language of the branches, so instead of still, vegetative, animate, and human objects mentioned in it, we must imagine the forces that rule the universe. And not only the entire text, but every letter of the Torah is a record of force. Hence, we must treat it as encrypted knowledge.

Lifting Twice

laitman_571_06Question: Why is it considered that a person who is in a spiritual descent can only be lifted twice?

Answer: This is a law of Torah. The first time you should try to lift him; even if you fail, your attempts still connect with him..

The second time, you really are working with him, knowing that you have common desires, common Kelim (vessels). When you try to rise together and you feel that you are unable to pull him, you have to leave him. It means that a “human being” has not sufficiently developed within him in order to pull him together with his “donkey” (his animal part).
