Who Names the Creations?

707Question: If a person includes everything within himself, then who gives him the name “man”? From what point does that come? Where is this observer?

Answer: A man includes within himself all of the created beings. And the Creator is above him, He gives man all kinds of problems in life so that he can solve them and develop.

Question: Who gives the name to the creation, which is between a person and the Creator?

Answer: It is said in the Torah that a man gives a name to all created beings.

Probably there is an understanding within him of how to call himself and those similar to him.

243.05Question: Can we say Zeir Anpin is like a Rosh (head) in relation to Aba ve Ima?

Answer: No. Zeir Anpin (ZA) defines Aba ve Ima‘s actions by raising MAN to it, but ZA is not a Rosh.
It starts the action like a small child screaming and asking, which affects the adults who care about him and give him what he needs.

The Emergence of Egoistic Desires

548.01The thing is that we have to know that all of the souls extend from the soul of Adam HaRishon, for after he sinned in the sin of the Tree of Knowledge, his soul divided into 600,000 souls. This means that the one light that Adam HaRishon had, which The Zohar called Zihara Ila’a [upper brightness], which he had in the Garden of Eden at once, spreads into numerous pieces (Rabash, Article 10, “What is the Degree One should Achieve In Order not to Have to Reincarnate”).

Thus, we now have discrete states, separated and distanced from each other, even in some aspects opposite to one another. Any state different from another is in some way its opposite. These uncombined, elementary, fundamental states do not resemble each other in any way although they are all fragments of one single desire—Zeir Anpin on the level of Keter of the world of Atzilut. This state is divided into 600,000 parts.

The shattering occurs on a spiritual level even before we begin talking about our existence and sensations.

Following this, the descent of the shattered particles into our world happened, which means a gradual spiritual coarsening and distancing from the quality of bestowal and the quality of connection between them. Naturally, the light within each particle diminishes more and more, and each particle seemingly falls lower and lower in its state until it reaches the lowest state—a coarsening of desire to the point of becoming egoistic, manifesting increasingly in the desire of Adam.

His inner part, his inner nature, which initially does not reveal itself, seems to shed its outer shells that came from the Creator, and his own structure, his own desire, his own nature—the desire to receive only for oneself that is, an absolutely egoistic desire enclosed within itself—becomes more and more apparent. This desire is the human being in our world.

Descent and Ascent

548.03All the worlds, upper and lower and everything within them, were created only for man. … In the beginning, they were restricted and hung down degree by degree and world after world, down to our material world (Baal HaSulam, “Introduction to the Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah,” Item 9).

Our world is at the very end of the spiritual degrees. All this is built in order to enable souls to ascend these degrees from the bottom up. Only then will people be able to give everything and receive nothing; that is, they will be in the opposite state compared to today.

In the meantime, a person, being completely receiving, i.e. being in the most remote state from the Creator, becomes the opposite of the Creator.

Later, thanks to the soul clothed in him, he constantly engages in the Torah and the commandments. Then one begins to attain higher degrees from the bottom up and thus climb the spiritual ladder.

This is how a person changes his or her qualities until one attains the qualities of bestowal and is liberated from the desire to receive. And then one completes one’s perfection in true adhesion with the Creator, for this is the only reason a person was created.

Why Does the World Need a Lot of People?

944Adhering to the Creator is a task that must be achieved by each of us in this world. That is why we are gathering together. After all, if we existed as one person, like as our prototype Adam, we would not be able to achieve anything.

The fact is, our feelings come from egoistic qualities. But if we are in a state where we feel something outside of ourselves, then we can begin to work on ourselves.

Therefore, one person is not enough in the world, but several people are needed, at least ten. If we mean that we must attain complete union with the Creator, then it is possible only through ten stages, as we study from the four stages of direct light.

In other words, the originally created egoistic desire had to be divided into many parts. Depending on how much this desire develops and becomes more and more opposite to the Creator, we are divided into more and more particles, that is, people, each of whom carries an egoistic element that can be corrected.

If only a few people were not separated by egoism, this collective object would not be able to correct itself. Therefore, we are divided into structures such as individual atoms so that any combinations can be created from them.

That is similar to various chemical elements of which there are not so many, only slightly more than a hundred, and the multitude of compounds they create between them. The result is life in its endless, eternal, perfect movement.

The molecules of inanimate elements are connections of atoms. When molecules combine, they can produce something, generate something from themselves, and make their own copies.

From what the Creator created, we see that everything must break apart and fall to the lowest level and then assemble into atoms, atoms into molecules, then more complex structures in which life, reproduction, division, and so on appear.

The Reason for Creating Created Beings

712.03The Creator is everywhere. This is the common, united, single, constantly operating force of the entire universe. Everything that exists besides Him is called a creation, specially created by Him and existing in Him.

We are inside the Creator—inside this common light. Our task is to reveal Him, to unite with Him, to achieve absolutely complete dissolution, unification, similarity, and adhesion with Him.

This is the meaning or reason for creating created beings that are opposite to the Creator. Our work, our goal is to understand what the qualities of the Creator are and how we can change ourselves to come closer to Him.

This is the essence of human existence in our world in the state in which we find ourselves—in a state that is created by the upper light, working on our egoistic desire to receive, enjoy, maintain ourselves at every moment of life only for ourselves.

This desire automatically works in us, and we must realize it and understand it—whether we agree with it or not—and then rise above it in order to achieve coupling, connection, and agreement with the Creator.

Everything Is Determined by Intention

231.01Question: Is light something necessary for our correction or something we earn and become worthy of receiving?

Answer: Initially, only one quality exists: the quality of bestowal. It creates the opposite quality of reception. The quality of bestowal is called light, altruism; the quality of reception is called darkness, egoism. Both qualities coexist; the quality of bestowal is primary and the quality of reception is secondary.

The task of the Creator (the property of bestowal) is to bring the property of reception to similarity with Him so that it is on the same degree as the Creator. In this way, the Creator reveals His greatness, how He can create something opposite, yet equal to Himself.

This is the principle of the origin of creation, and we must reach this state. Since we were created from the quality of reception, we must create an intention on this property to use receiving for the sake of giving because receiving is our nature and it does not change.

And then the greater the egoism I work with in my property of receiving, with zero, first, second, third, fourth, the more I ascend. That is how it works.

So the quality of reception is not harmful; it is nature. Nature can be neither bad nor good. The only thing we need is to work with the quality of reception revealed in us with the intention to bestow.

If I receive for the sake of bestowal, then everything is fine; by this I bestow, although in principle my action is an action of reception. Only the intention changes. Thus, everything is determined by intention and not by mechanical action.

A Simple Idea

264.01The science of Kabbalah itself is very simple. It is difficult to implement it, but its idea is quite simple.

The Creator created one single desire that He broke into billions of parts. These parts, which are separated by egoism, must be reunited into the same system in spite of the ego.

At the same time, egoism should not interfere with them. On the contrary, it helps them connect. Then their connection, compared to the past, will be 620 times stronger, and these desires will not feel the state they were in initially before the shattering when they felt only themselves, but they will begin to feel themselves at the level of the Creator.

This is the movement of the shattering and its subsequent correction. Everything happens only according to the method of drawing closer and the connection of the broken parts, that is, between us.

The Connection of the Ten with Ten Sefirot

235Question: How is the concept of “ten” related to the Ten Sefirot? Can this information be used for internal clarifications?

Answer: If you have trouble connecting the spiritual ten with the physical ten, imagine each of us is a desire, ten separate egoistic desires that when interconnected allow you to build one complete altruistic intention.

We study the four stages of direct light: zero, one, two, three, and four. There are only five stages. But, as a rule, we talk about four because the zero stage does not count—it is the source.

The five stages of light are transformed into ten Sefirot because one of these Sefirot, Tifferet, consists, in turn, of six parts.

The path from light to desire goes exactly along ten parts. It cannot be less or more. Rabash writes about this in some of his articles, and Baal HaSulam in the book Study of the Ten Sefirot.

From light to the desire, which the light creates, there must be ten stages where the highest stage is the light itself and the lowest stage is the desire itself. Thus, the light as it gradually descends from above creates a desire within itself.

And then the opposite occurs where the desire begins to gradually become like the light. It turns out that the ten Sefirot of direct light occur when the light builds desire from Keter to Malchut and the reverse when Malchut wishes to resemble the light from Malchut to Keter.

Connection above Egoism

144All of us, all of humanity, originate from one common desire that shattered into tiny particles, and each of them represents one of us. Therefore, we must reconnect these particles.

To the extent that we can rise above each person’s egoism and start working on our desires toward a collective connection to become similar to the Creator, the Creator will be able to clothe in us as we get closer to each other.

That is what we need to achieve. Essentially, this is the subject of the wisdom of Kabbalah. It explains how we ended up in our current state, how we can connect into a single system, and how the Creator fills us as we unite into this system.

In this process, our egoism does not disappear; it develops even further, and we must connect above it despite its presence. Then, we will represent a single unified desire composed of many desires.

Our connection is always above egoism. As egoism grows, we must rise even higher to unite our aspirations. Thus, egoism is called “help against you” because it pushes us toward greater unity, and in this way, we can reveal the Creator even more between us.
