How Can We Be Confident that Our Prayer Is Accepted?

595.03Question: Kabbalists write that if we have performed all the actions of turning to the Creator, we should gain confidence that the prayer is accepted. But how can we acquire this confidence?

Answer: It depends on what kind of light descends upon a person from the Creator. To demand, ask, and feel the necessity for it is what you must do. And gradually this light will come to you as the feeling that the Creator is in constant good connection with you.

Question: How can one transition from a state of gratitude to prayer and asking?

Answer: If we wish to draw closer to the Creator, we must ask Him precisely in those states in which we are striving toward Him.

Through Praise and Gratitude

572.02The praise and the gratitude one gives for it expand the feelings, and one is elated by every single point in the holy work, he knows Whose servant he is, and thus soars ever higher (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 26, “One’s Future Depends and Is Tied to Gratitude for the Past”).

Question: What should our gratitude to the Creator be like in order to reveal Him?

Answer: We must reach a state where we feel, believe, and realize that everything before us belongs to the Creator and comes to us directly from Him. In this case, we gradually begin to feel ourselves within Him.

It is precisely in this work, in these actions, in these efforts, that we must reveal our constant, absolute connection with Him. That is what a person must attain, and we hope to achieve this as a result of our efforts.

In spirituality, that is, in the wisdom of Kabbalah, everything is determined by intention.

We must always be directed toward the Creator. If we have the opportunity to absorb all the impressions of the common Kli, we take them in. Then, the influence of the Creator’s revelation on us strengthens to the extent that we can unite our friends within ourselves, and as much as we strive to be one whole and, within this wholeness attain the Creator.

“He Who Comes to Purify Is Aided”

236.01“He who comes to purify is aided.” It follows that this throne, that was in such lowliness, meaning that he felt a state of lowliness and degradation, has been rewarded with the glory of the King being on it. It follows that that same lowliness has become the throne (Rabash, Article 2, “What Is the Meaning of Failure in the Work?“).

Question: How can one remain in lowliness at all times in order to crown the Creator?

Answer: I do not think we need to remain in lowliness all the time, because if that were the case, we would not have a Kli (vessel). A Kli is after all some kind of desire, a sense of pride. Think about it; we are born with a Kli, but over time we lose it.

The Creator places us in conditions to which we must respond. All these conditions distance us from Him, obscure our path, and dull our feelings.

I must turn to Him, speak with Him, and demand from Him: “If You created me with certain qualities, then please give me the opportunity to realize them.” We must demand this from the Creator. It should become part of our daily practice.

Question: It is said that one who comes to purify is aided. In such a state, is it more correct to ask specifically for the correction of this state, or to rise toward a single great state, a great heart?

Answer: To rise toward a single great state.

What Should We Ask for from the Creator?

294.2Question: What should I ask for to pass through the “wall of fire” that the Creator has surrounded Himself with?

Answer: Ask that your soul not be harmed by the fire, and then you will gradually be able to get used to it and will begin to understand what you need in order to survive in its vicinity.

Comment: I still get thrown out and I return to thinking about myself instead of being in my friends, in the Creator.

My Response: All the same, nothing will help you until you begin to feel the force within you that will push you toward the Creator, toward turning to Him. In that case, you will begin to discern what exists between you that you can use to draw closer to the Creator. This is already serious work.

Question: How to demand the force that will push me toward the Creator?

Answer: You have to create this force yourself. You cannot receive it just like that from the Creator, but if you desire the Creator and want to reveal Him, get to know His qualities and actions, then in this case, you will be able to plead Him to teach you.

These are not such difficult actions; the main thing is to be consistent in them. That is, see, reveal, and understand how the Creator interacts with you and how you wish for Him to understand how you respond to Him.

I am addressing these words to everyone.

Why Do We Need To Ask the Creator?

The Main Thing Is the Prayer to the Creator

558Question: It is written that the ideal prayer comes from the bottom of one’s heart. You say that when we constantly ask for something, it becomes a necessity. Suppose today my heart asks for mutual guarantee (Arvut) in the ten and tomorrow or maybe in a week for something else. How can this be combined?

Answer: What is in a person’s heart and that he can raise this prayer to the Creator is the main thing. One should try to feel the Creator as the embryo of the state from which it developed.

Question: What does it mean to feel the Creator as an embryo?

Answer: This is felt in relation to me. His influence on me is very small; therefore, unfortunately, I cannot make bigger efforts so that He fills me completely.

As Israel at Mount Sinai

943Question: You say that we need to ask that our friends enter the common heart and feel it. I feel that with each passing day, it becomes more difficult for me to pray for my friends, to ask that they unite and reveal the Creator. My ego asks, “Why should you ask for them to do this?” What should I answer?

Answer: The fact is that only through connection with your friends can you reveal the Creator and unite with Him yourself. That is why you must constantly desire this.

Comment: It is difficult to feel this mutual dependence when I pray for my friends, and they reveal the Creator.

My Response: You turn to the Creator so that He reveals Himself to them. Your desire is not egoistic because you are asking for them. So keep asking.

Question: Do you pray for us?

Answer: Yes.

Question: What if we do not just talk about this but take it as a practical form of work? Before the convention we made a pact that we would all pray for each other, just as Israel did at Mount Sinai. Like in mutual guarantee: I pray for everyone, everyone prays for me, and each prays for the other.

Answer: Try it, and you will feel the result in the coming days.

Question: What result should we expect?

Answer: To reach unity in which the Creator will be revealed, and this revelation will lead you to the feeling of the entire world.

Question: Does the Creator take pleasure when we pray for each other?

Answer: That is when you will find out.

Continuous Prayer

935Question: You said that the Creator answers constant prayer. What can our common constant prayer for our friends look like in practice?

Answer: If you constantly think about our common correction, you will soon feel how all your thoughts turn in its direction, that is, in the direction of the common desire, the common intention. And then you will see how they come true.

Question: Yes, but sometimes there is a disconnection, and everything scatters. How can we avoid this? How can we stay constantly connected to prayer?

Answer: I advise you not to think about it. As soon as you feel that a disconnection is happening, immediately return to your unity.

Question: I remember at the last convention, a friend asked, “What do you ask for?” and you gave this prayer: “Creator, unite all of Bnei Baruch into one heart, fill this heart with love, and pass it on to the whole world.” In our ten, we still hold on to this prayer.

Can you give us a form of prayer for this convention?

Answer: I believe I include myself in the wishes of your hearts. I am very glad that more men are present at this congress. This truly speaks about its real strength. Let’s just continue the convention, and in the end, we will reach a state where we truly begin to feel that each heart is filled by all the other hearts.

How Do You Feel a True Need for Bestowal?

938.03Question: How can we cry out to the Creator and ask for the desire to bestow when there is no deficiency? How can one feel a true need for bestowal?

Answer: You need to unite with those like you and connect from your shared aspirations these feelings of the need for the Creator’s help. In this way, you will get to strive toward the Creator and demand His revelation.

Question: If there is no deficiency, will the Creator not fill us?

Answer: No, the Creator will shake you from side to side and create various situations for you until you feel the necessity to ask Him for the quality of bestowal.

The Feeling of Faith

585.02Question: The sages write about dry land in which there is no strength to pray, there is no rain; that is, about a great egoistic desire without light. They also write about faith that should become our dwelling place in the world of bestowal. I cannot understand what needs to be added to that land where there is no rain for it to come to life?

Answer: The feeling of faith should become the universal fulfillment of a person. In this case, a person will begin to feel the Creator.

Question: Is it an addition or a correction?

Answer: It is a correction.

The Creator Is Waiting for Your Request

936World Kabbalah Convention, Connecting to Lishma, Lesson 4

Question: We can talk endlessly about how much we invested in the congress and how we prepared for it. Now the congress is coming to an end. There is only one more meal left and it is over! That is it. There is no strength to pray. This is one point.

And the other point is that you are obliged to ask for all your friends. Everyone has come and wants to reveal the Creator. And the Creator wants to reveal Himself. It is such a crisis when you have to pray, but you cannot!

What should we do now? What do we ask for?

Answer: What to ask for? I cannot tell you. You need to figure out what your greatest ultimate desire is, the desire with which you want to turn to the Creator. This is what He must fulfill.

You can turn to Him with such a genuine request that He will have not dodge. He expects such a request from you.

Question: And what is a genuine request?

Answer: It is what you truly would like to receive from the Creator.
