Adam And Eve

Dr. Michael LaitmanComment: It says that the Creator created Adam, as if he is a collective figure that resembles the Creator.

Answer: The attitude of the Creator to the creation is called Adam. And the created being is Eve (Havah), i.e., it is already present, the desire to receive.

Comment: According to The Book of Zohar, Adam is a combination of the male and the female parts.

Answer: That’s right, but the female part in a man is concealed. Of course it stems from the Creator but not directly, not as something from nothing.

Comment: In the past there were organisms that impregnated themselves and then divided into a male and female part.

Answer: We can still see this phenomenon in nature. Now many species in the animal world change their sex from male to female and vice versa depending on the need to continue the species.

Question: Does this correlate with what The Book of Zohar says about the unity of the male and the female parts?

Answer: No. The Book of Zohar tells us only about spiritual states. How their effects are manifested in our world—here there are many options.

When the desire began to develop it was divided into a male and a female part, which led to the emergence of people who were males and females in our world and who have to mate  to have offspring.

It is only by the mating of two opposite separate independent elements of nature that the emergence of a third element is possible, similarly to the way the two lines, the right and the left lines, generate the middle line.

Woman – A Mystery Of Nature

laitman_547_06The woman is mystery of nature since she symbolizes our desire to receive, a desire that is concealed in us and is revealed only to the extent that we reveal the Creator. Therefore, if we yearn to discover the Creator, we reveal the feminine.

We will not be able to understand a woman until we attain this truth, because the feminine was created by the Creator and is the only thing He created, “and God created woman,” whereas the male is a little different from the Creator and exists in the world only in order to fertilize the woman, to fill her, to generate birth, so that eventually the female desire to receive and the male desire to bestow (the points in the heart) will appear in them in the corrected mutual state called their child.

This process takes place when the feminine is ready for correction, while the male merely fulfills his intermediary role. This is the reason that the woman, the feminine, the desire to receive, is nature’s mystery, which a Kabbalist gradually discovers to what extent she is opposite from the Creator and to what extent he can make her resemble the Creator.

Women In Power

laitman_627_2In the News (Financial Policy): “For the first time in history, the inner chambers of global leadership may go genuinely coed. The anointment of Theresa May as Britain’s next prime minister, the seemingly endless rule of Angela Merkel in Germany, the brightening prospects of Hillary Clinton in the U.S. presidential race, and the presence of women on the shortlist to succeed U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (though last week’s straw poll wound up with men in the top slots) could mean that as of early next year, global summitry will see nearly as many pantsuits and scarves as it does suits and ties. …

“Contemplating the rise of female leaders in Britain and the United States and at the U.N., it is hard not to think of what the business world has termed the ‘glass cliff’: the notion that women are elevated to power amid crises so daunting that men are deterred for fear of failure, prompting women to step up to no-win situations. …

“Amid these challenges, it is tempting to hope — and there is some evidence to indicate — that this cohort of female leaders may turn to one another as a source of solidarity, forging effective partnerships that translate into policy results. Betsy Polk and Maggie Ellis Chotas have written a book arguing that when women team up professionally they can achieve greater confidence, flexibility, and accountability than is attainable in other working relationships. Across multiple academic disciplines, research confirms that women tend to be more open to teamwork than men.”

Answer: Women are more open, more collective, and less egoistic in teamwork. They require support; they consolidate a collective, a circle around them, while a man would organize a pyramid (dominance).

Also, in serious circumstances, a drive to hide a bit behind a woman is awakened in a man. He must feel her next to him like a child who needs his mother.

It makes no difference if he is mature and healthy, in any case this instinct lives within him. We were born from a woman, we were educated by a woman, we were fed by her, and a woman protected us, clothed us, washed and dried us. So when we are not sure of ourselves, we feel like children, needing female, motherly support. It is not for nothing that it is said that behind every successful man stands a woman.

On the other hand, we must understand that there must be a proper integration between a man and woman. The problem is that in our times both men and women are egoists and someone who rises to power cannot do anything good. A man will not hide behind a woman and unfortunately, even though a woman will partially function collectively, this will be without result because neither these nor those have a method for collective management.

Our world is becoming integral, so much so that everything concludes with this fact. The fact is that in various nations women have risen to power, and in nations like Germany, England, the United States, and France, there is an indication that men are feeling the uncertainty that is sitting in our subconscious. So nature is revealing that advancing to the front of the stage is a woman who is strong, in control, calm and confident, whom men imagine as a mother whose “skirt can be held.”

Question: What can be expected for us in the near future?

Answer: A serious shock can be expected for us in the future because a woman in power is a sign that the situation in the world is truly dim and unclear.

We need to understand that precisely in this situation, in spite of everything, men are obliged to go to the front of the stage. It is specifically the men who must acquire and master the method of correction of the world, seeing their role and realizing it. While women always adapt themselves to men, there is no need to throw everything on them.

One must take into account that they find themselves at the head of the nation against their will because we have been hurled into a dead end. But the correction must always move and be carried out through the men.

New Life 600 – The 15th Of Av – The Holiday Of Love

New Life 600 – The 15th Of Av – The Holiday Of Love
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz

What is the connection between the holiday of love and the 9th of Av? Why have we lost the ability to love and how can we reach the complete fulfillment of love in all our relationships?

The 15th of Av is considered one of the most favorable days for Israel. After the revelation of hatred comes the correction of love. Hate and love are two sides of the same matter and the distance between them is very short.
I have created the evil inclination (the 9th of Av); I have created the Torah as spice for it (the 15th of Av).

There is Light in nature, the correcting force. In Av we speak about the love between a couple: the Creator and the created beings; a male and a female, the Light and the desire to receive. If the connection between us is weak, the Creator cannot dwell among us, hug and kiss and mate with us.

The source of evil is the 9th of Av and the source of goodness is the 15th of Av. Good and evil are measured according to our closeness to the Light. Because we have not reached this upper goodness yet, the 15th of Av is interpreted as partnership and that’s all, as something light. Today there are many problems in the relations between us: in a relationship between a couple, in the family, at work, and in the Knesset. This is a state of destruction, the 9th of Av.

Love means filling the desires of others before I fill my own desire. I need to know what the other wants, to feel it, and his or her desire should be more important to me than my own. In spirituality every moment there is awareness of your new partner again, but we lack that. True love is a love that is constantly renewed, endless, and eternal. Love thy friend as thyself is the way to pair with the Creator, and can be exercised in relationships with friends.

A group refers to ten people who connect with love and build the vessel for the revelation of the Shechina between them. Spiritual partnership is when two people feel as one, and the agreement, the understanding, and the complementation between them in their heart and mind. In fact, we should reach this loving relationship not only as a couple but toward everyone. The first tip is: try to feel each other, just as you feel yourselves, try to feel that you are one, in one reality.

New Life 756 – Love In The Bible

New Life 756 – Love In The Bible
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

The Torah defines love differently than we do. On the whole, for us all the stories in the Torah are great secrets.

It is based on the principle of love of others, which means caring about the wellbeing of others, to do others good and to live only in order to fill others, not thinking of what I will benefit from or what I will get in return.

The Torah doesn’t tell us about people but about spiritual systems. Spiritual love is giving and not receiving in order to satisfy my desires; spiritual love is overcoming the ego. Getting married for example, means to connect with the desires of another and to fill them.

The purpose of our life in this world is to reach love and connection because no one can really fill himself.

Therefore, the desire to love is deeply rooted in us, but we have to learn how to bring it out and to develop it.

The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us how to build love above the hatred we feel, to connect above the egoism that separates us. Spiritual love doesn’t depend on others but on the degree of your giving. It is through others that a person connects to the Creator.

An Ideal Relationship

laitman_232_08Question: What should an ideal relationship between a man and a woman look?

Answer: An ideal relationship between a man and a woman, just like between two men or two women, is a spiritual partnership in which the two sides have equal rights, when they complement each other and create a common vessel (Kli).

Spiritual Interaction Between Husband And Wife

Laitman_506_1Question: Which forces and spiritual laws have an influence on a correct relationship between husband and wife and how is it possible to learn how to use them?

Answer: The right mutual relationships between husband and wife are realized when they become friends and they create the same conditions between them that exist in a group of Kabbalists. I heard this many times from my teacher, the great Kabbalist, Rabash.

If a husband and wife work correctly with each other mutually and grow spiritually together, the Creator will be revealed between them and they will become a small group.

This surely does not exclude participation by the wife in a women’s group or the participation of the husband in a men’s group, but they do create a normal, physical, and full group between them.

Question: Are you aware of couples like these? How do they interact with each other?

Answer: I was told that there were couples like these in the distant past, but I didn’t see this with my teacher Rabash even though his wife understood very well what he was involved with and they lived together for 65 years. Even his father, the great Kabbalist, Baal HaSulam was not connected with his wife like this.

The students of Rabash partially aspired to do this, but due to the lack of time and energy to implement spiritual activities among us, we learned more in a men’s group and the women studied separately.

We were the first group to have broken into the wisdom of Kabbalah by attaining the upper world, so we didn’t have enough power, patience, and mind to create connections like these in the family. We were pioneers in studying and attaining the wisdom of Kabbalah, so in his time nothing worked smoothly.

Question: Would it be correct for a husband and wife to discover the other half within them first and only after that connect and advance together toward the Creator?

Answer: No, there is no need to divide anything. It is completely possible to succeed in discovering it through a group specifically and not in the connection between you. There are many different possibilities here.

We are now in a transitional period in which great and expanding masses are beginning to study the wisdom of Kabbalah, so there is no way of knowing clearly whether we must specifically act mutually with a wife or a husband and then in a group or the opposite, first in groups and then each other.

Women’s Questions

laitman_606Question: Does a woman have to yearn for the attribute of bestowal if she was created as the part that receives?

Answer: The two sexes are equal in attaining the Creator, and each of them has both a male and a female part.

Question: How can I stop raising my voice to my husband and children?

Answer: Your husband and children exist inside you and only seem to exist on the outside, and so you have to first turn you the husband and children that are inside you and only then to the figures that are on the outside.

Bygone Love

Laitman_183_04Question: The main reason for divorce in Israel is love that has died out (36%), the second reason is financial problems (32.5%), and the third reason is unfaithfulness (11.2%). How do you relate to love that has died out?

Answer: I don’t understand what this means!

When I first saw my future wife, even when I was not religious or a Kabbalist, I asked myself: Is she the person I will be able to stand by my side for a very long time, and I realized that she was and that I would also be able to do so. She is indulging, hard working, loves to study, and was ready to follow me in the years when I was refused Aliyah. In those days it was dangerous even to speak about going to Israel!

But on our very first meeting I already told her: “I am going to Israel, do you agree to come with me…?” Since otherwise there was no point seeing each other anymore, and she agreed.

Question: But you haven’t said anything about love…

Answer: Love is an emotion that appears as a result of a long connection between people, when they support one another and are concerned about and care about each other.

At first it is only hormones that bring people together, just like in the animal world. You can see the same thing in nature films, but when it comes to animals, the connection is only at specific times, at a certain age. When it comes to humans, it is permanent.

I believe that poets and writers invented the term “love” in order to confuse people. I am sure that a couple of centuries ago there was no love and people simply connected because they thought “she is right for me,” or “he is right for me.” They matched each other, felt close, understood and supported one another, and that’s all.

Question: What do people mean when they say that love is gone?

Answer: What love?! Hormones cannot act for forty, fifty or sixty years, especially when it comes to men!

Question: Why do they act? Why do people live together for 50-60 years?

Answer: People live together because they have children; they have shared property, etc. There is nothing we can do about it, the habit was given to us from Above, but this is not love in any way!

Question: So what is love?

Answer: Love is a feeling of mutual understanding, of mutual connection and loyalty, of mutual commitment. It is a feeling of partnership, of an inner connection, of a “debt” to another person. You are not forced into it, but simply feel you are committed. What is more, a person feels that his partner treats him the same way. This is called love. We take this definition from the wisdom of Kabbalah where love is called a desire to bestow unto another and not the other way around, while in our world it is a desire to receive something corporeal from another person, to receive as much as possible and as soon as possible.

This is a totally egoistic interpretation of the term “love,” which is opposite from its true meaning,

Question: It turns out that you actually need to develop love.

Answer: Yes, but only on the basis of mutual understanding, by hard work between us.

New Life 743 – Declining Birth Rates And Human Evolution

New Life 743 – Declining Birth Rates And Human Evolution
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

Every phenomenon, including the lack of the desire to have children, is a result of our attitude for our development. Technology eliminates the need for a family.

There is an internal program in nature that advances us. The steamroller of evolution pressures us and different processes take place whether we like it or not.

In the future we will not have to work so hard in order to survive and then the question of what are we living for will arise. Nothing that happens naturally is tragic. We simply have to explore where nature is leading us. On our next level of evolution man will want to penetrate the great “computer” of nature.

The future generation will desire to reproduce through internal and spiritual connection with all of mankind. This will be a new kind of evolution. By connecting our desires and our thoughts we will become one man. This will not happen by technology such as artificial intelligence and such but by our internal development.

In the future all our needs will be provided and all we will have to do is to find out what we truly need. An internal revolution!
