Success in the Science of Kabbalah

963.4Question: It is written in TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot): “And let him give all his time to the science of Kabbalah — the true means of attaining success.” What kind of success is meant here?

Answer: Success in Kabbalah means the revelation of the Creator.

Question: What good sign does Baal HaSulam refer to, one that a person must receive on the spiritual path?

Answer: A good sign is when a person, instead of relying on his own efforts, receives the key to what he has been expecting from the Creator.

Get to Know the Greatness of Baal HaSulam

962.4Question: Give us advice on how to follow the path and the method of Baal HaSulam and reach the goal in the fastest way?

Answer: We have already studied in general everything written by Baal HaSulam and his method. We just have to implement it. We were honored to meet this person, this soul, the work of his life. We live with his thoughts; we exist inside the “building” built by him.

The wisdom of Kabbalah is developing because souls are developing. More and more souls are coming to the final stage of correction; they are approaching their realization.

The last exile has ended, and now we are the first ones who are crossing over from this final exile to complete liberation, to the revelation of the Creator. Here we really need support, help, a big light, the study that Baal HaSulam passed to us.

We can see in ourselves how much it helps us to use it; if we follow precisely his method, we achieve success when we awaken the reforming light.

This light still acts within us in concealment, and the results are not so visible from outside. However, with every day this force is growing, becoming more visible, and we can sense it more. I really hope that soon we will begin to feel what we read, and sense those forms, properties, and depictions within ourselves.

Everything that we read in The Book of Zohar and in The Study of the Ten Sefirot, all these depictions will pass inside of us, and it will become clear to us that this is a movie.

Just now as our desires paint a picture of this world for us, so later will our desires, only the desires to bestow, draw us a picture of the second nature, of the upper world. Then we will understand what Baal HaSulam has done for us!

He writes that in reality, one begins to study Torah only after the revelation of the attainment. After all, when you reveal the pictures of the future world, you have to know what it all is for! Like a baby who needs adults.

Then you will feel that Baal HaSulam and RABASH care for you like a little child and explain this entire world to you.

With their help, you begin to penetrate deeper in it, understand, and carry out some of your own independent actions.

Each time you get more inspiration, and these great teachers stand close together with you, these two educators who constantly care about you and support you every moment and at every step.

We are yet to appreciate the significance of the enterprise that Baal HaSulam has created, of that great preparation he has done: “childcare,” “school,” and the entire “university” of the spiritual life that he prepared for us. If not for him, no Kabbalistic schools whatsoever would be able to help us.

They can only add to the revelation that we are making according to the method of Baal HaSulam and attaining the spiritual world.

I really hope that we will come to such a revelation, and then we will begin to know his real greatness and his love for us. After that, we will be able to interact at a different level and understand one another.

I very much hope to meet you in the world of truth where we will be able to discuss everything that takes place by looking at it with a true perspective and will understand one another.

We will do all this together with RABASH and Baal HaSulam, with their help. You will feel that they constantly support us and surround us with care.

We will try to be worthy of them!

There is No One Closer to a Child than His Mother

919RABASH said that his father, Baal HaSulam, promised that by following his path and following his advice, we would be granted eternal life by the Creator in order to adhere to Him.

RABASH himself achieved high spiritual attainment using only the works and advice of his father. There is no other practical means of revealing the upper world to our generation except for the works of Baal HaSulam.

That is why his soul is especially close to us. After all, we evaluate everything by its benefit to ourselves. We do not compare the stature of the Kabbalists: Moses, RASHBI, the ARI, Baal HaSulam, and  RABASH.

Just as the most important thing for a child is his mother, so do I depend on receiving spiritual eternal life from the soul that preceded me: RABASH and Baal HaSulam. Of course, there are still many high souls, but we can only connect with the spiritual system through RABASH and Baal HaSulam.

Questions about Spiritual Work—272

281.02Question: In the Introduction to TES, it is written: “You will see your world in your life.”

I perceive this as a reward for our unification; that is, we receive the light, and it corrects us. How can one avoid using this knowledge egoistically?

Answer: If I think only about spiritual closeness with the Creator, that is, with the quality of bestowal, then I will naturally advance correctly. This is what I must think about constantly.

Question: When we enter the work in the Torah, we still do not have a clear understanding of what Lishma is, or where our desires lie. Entering is easy, but it is very difficult to maintain precision and strength in turning to the Creator. How can we gain confidence that we possess that very faith that will lead us to this?

Answer: This is something we must work on.

Question: Do we have the ability to feel and direct the power of Torah toward the place of defect and corruption? Or would it be more correct to rely on the actions of the light upon us?

Answer: These are two completely different directions. We will study them later.

Break the Iron Wall

214At the outset of my words, I find a great need to break an iron wall that has been separating us from the wisdom of Kabbalah, since the ruin of the Temple to this generation. It lies heavily on us and arouses fear of being forgotten from Israel. (Baal HaSulam “Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot)

“To break an iron wall” means that we, who want to understand what the wisdom of Kabbalah is, would not distance ourselves from the wisdom itself. This requires both internal and external work from everyone.

Question: What do we lack in order to break this wall and understand the concealed part of the Torah?

Answer: We must study both the revealed and the concealed parts of the Torah as much as we are capable of. And all of this must be accepted by us in unity with each other.

Let us hope that our study will definitely push us toward unification.

281.02Question: Can we consider the revealed Torah as a desire to receive, and the hidden Torah as a desire to receive for the sake of giving?

Answer: No, we cannot. The “hidden Torah” is what we reveal in the process of learning Kabbalah. And the revealed is what is revealed to us as children.

Question: Does the iron wall get broken on both sides? How can one feel the other side?

Answer: You can feel the other side only when you strive to unite with what is outside of you, on the other side of the wall.

The Correct Intention During the Study of TES

137Question: When my friends and I discuss TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot) lessons, it becomes clear that there are two approaches. The first approach is when a person tries to grasp each concept and apply it to himself. The second approach is when friends say that this is what smart people do, and my job is to be on duty, my task is to think about my friend, to follow RABASH’s recommendations, and everything else will come.

What does it mean to study The Study of Ten Sefirot in the spirit of Bnei Baruch?

Answer: We have to understand that mastering the upper world from our world is not an easy task. But we are able to do it.

Therefore, let’s just study. Whatever we don’t understand today, we will understand tomorrow. And perhaps over the next several lessons, everything will be more or less clear to us, and we will move forward in this way.

I know many students who are shy to ask questions and they stay back, but it will come.

Once we complete the first volume of The Study of Ten Sefirot it will become clear to us where we are, at what level we are, and how we can receive some force of the upper light.

Question: What is the correct intention when we study TES?

Answer: The correct intention is our aspiration to have a Kli at the same level and for it to be able to model the various possibilities that we read about in TES within itself.

Einstein Quotations, Part 2

3Comment: Please comment on some of Albert Einstein’s quotes.

Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.

My Response: Yes, the impossible is the absurd. One who tries to reach something through completely absurd actions, agrees with them, and rises above his reason, which in Kabbalah is called “faith above reason” and that person can truly move forward. All others are in a state of degradation.

Faith is also knowledge, only each time it stands above me.

Question: So do you not accept earthly logic?

Answer: Earthly logic is animal logic. What I can grasp with my mind, whatever it may be, is animal mind, animal logic.

Einstein was great because, although he was not a Kabbalist, he thought like one. That is, I accept nature against my reason: “Such-and-such speed, such-and-such mass—can it change? It changes.”

Mass changes. How can it change? It just does.

Time can flow backward. Why? We do not know why, but let us accept that it can. What we perceive through our senses should not be taken a priori as an eternal constant.

Anyone who wants to see immediate results of his work should go into shoemaking.

Answer: Yes, that is well said. It is good when you do something and see the result right away. You even get paid. You finish your day, make a pair of boots, earn a few rubles, have a drink, eat, go to bed, and snore peacefully.

Comment: But that is what a person wants—to check a box: “The day was spent well.”

My Response: That is what the animal inside us wants. The animal in each of us desires only that! To lie down on a featherbed, snore, and that is it.

Question: So you say that is an animal state? And the human state is not like that?

Answer: A human being cannot be satisfied with that. There is nothing you can do. You were created so that you cannot be satisfied!

Question: But still, is there rest in life?

Answer: No, there is no rest in life. It all depends on a person’s nature. You might want it, but no—and actually, on the other hand, you would not even want that! How could you want it?!

Everyone knows that something is impossible. Then comes a fool who does not know this—and he makes the discovery.

Answer: And the most important thing is that everyone tells him how it should be done, but he cannot, he disagrees. He does not want to do it that way.

Question: But those who tell him that know it is impossible?

Answer: Yes, yet he still does it in his own way, twists it differently, and as a result he opens a new path.

Question: So do you think that science should, in essence, be entered by fools?

Answer: Science should be entered by those who can deny science, and by doing so, advance it each time.

After all, science itself, in principle, progresses through faith above knowledge, just like Einstein, like Tesla, although we know little about him. These are the kinds of revolutionaries I mean.

I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Answer: Absolutely right. I completely agree with him!

I do not think that humanity will restrain itself in the next world war, if it happens. It depends only on whether the Jews fulfill their historical function. If they unite, then it will not happen and we will reach unity by a good path. If not, then through immense suffering—ours and the world’s.

Question: Do you think that humanity, in the next war, if it happens, will not restrain itself from using weapons of destruction?

Answer: That it will not restrain itself—absolutely! The only question is to what extent it will not.

Because there are people who say that limited nuclear wars are possible, but I cannot imagine anyone being able to hold back.

After all, nuclear weapons are now in the hands of many countries that are quietly sitting and waiting.

I am afraid Einstein is right. If there is a world war, it will push humanity back by many, many thousands of years.

Psychology at a Dead End

600.02Question: Why did Baal HaSulam have a special respect for materialistic psychology?

Answer: Because at the level of our world it explains everything correctly, only, along with the rest of the problems of our world, it reaches a dead end.

What can we do in the world with our current psychology? We study the human being by all possible means, are ready to invest billions of resources and efforts, and still achieve nothing because we do not imagine the inner world of a person.

Psychology is like a tool that I want to open a person up with, look inside, dig into, like into a computer or some engine, and find out how he works, how I can correct him, adjust him, adapt him to myself, understand what his problems are, and so on.

But in fact, psychology does not help me with this. It is like trying to use a screwdriver and a hammer to get inside some modern mechanism made of all sorts of electronic circuits to figure it out. It is impossible to work this way.

However, we cannot act otherwise because our egoism, through which we look at a person and study him, is very one-sided and base. It does not allow us to understand their incentives, resources, causes, and problems. We see that psychology is unsuitable for children, for adults, for married couples, for anybody. We do not understand people and cannot figure them out. This is the main problem of our society: we do not know what we need.

Naturally, Kabbalah completely replaces psychology. It uses it where possible and then develops it further, since psychology cannot develop itself. Therefore we welcome materialistic psychology, but from there we must already advance it into the realm of Kabbalah.

Comment: By the way, many people who have studied psychology or continue to study it are interested in Kabbalah.

My Response: Naturally, I am sure that in the future all psychologists and philosophers will come to the study of Kabbalah because here they will find answers to the questions that psychology cannot answer.

Ascend the Degrees of the Worlds

548.02Question: Why is so much attention in the science of Kabbalah given to the structure of the spiritual worlds?

Answer: Five worlds separate us from the world of infinity, which is complete perfection and revelation of all forces; they are five concealments, filters, that hide the world of infinity from us. They are Adam Kadmon, Atzilut, Beriya, Yetzira, and Assiya, and under the world of Assiya in complete concealment from the higher worlds our world exists.

Each of these worlds is arranged in exactly the same way as the world of infinity, only it is weaker, less clear and shines less. But all these worlds are identical in all their details, both in quantity and in their connections between them. Everything that exists in each world, including our world, is the same.

And therefore, in our world, where the inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature and the human exist, they are all interconnected in the general structure by exactly the same connections as the forces in the spiritual world.

Only in the spiritual world the qualities of forces are different. But the connections between the parts are the same, and the order between them is one and the same.

And everything that seems to us as wrong, confusing, disorderly, and unjust in our world is explained by the fact that we are in total darkness and do not see the similarity between our world and the upper one.

But undoubtedly our world is the branch, and the world of Assiya is the root. In turn, the world of Assiya is the branch, and the world of Yetzira is its root, and so on up to the root of everything, the world of infinity. That is how everything is arranged.

We are in our world, and we have no choice; we exist now in a certain reality with our qualities.

My forces, my qualities, my mind, and my feelings are such that I reveal a picture called “this world.”

But through this picture I can begin to change my feelings and mind. And since the upper world is arranged according to the same model and differs only in its properties, it represents the very same picture, only more alive. Then I can try from the world I am in now to attain a higher sensation since the parts of the worlds and the connections between them are the same, except the quality of the forces is higher.

Therefore by studying the science of Kabbalah, I draw a force from above upon myself, I strive to attain the upper world, and in response this yearning brings me a light that returns to the source, the force that changes my qualities. It should not change either the composition of the parts or the order of things within me.

It has to change only one thing, the quality of my main property, so that instead of my egoism, I would acquire a bit of bestowal that is more exalted than mine. And then I rise with everything that I see and feel to a higher degree, to a higher dimension, and I begin to feel the spiritual world.
