Different Perception of the Sources

165Question: When I study and read sources myself, I do not understand anything at all. But now when you read them and we go through them together, they are perceived in a completely different way.

Answer: Of course. That is exactly why I am here. Without explanations you would not understand anything. Millions of people can read these sources and still understand nothing. Additionally, there is an internal, emotional, spiritual transmission from teacher to student.

However, your preliminary work with the sources is still beneficial because you familiarize yourself with them directly through your own feelings and perception.

Now you see how it can all be explained from the next degree. I explain things just one degree above where you currently are, no more, and I try not to overcomplicate it. On the contrary, I try to break it down for you and serve it like baby food on a spoon.

But even if you put in effort without understanding anything, that effort becomes the desire into which you later receive light, revelation, and understanding. So it is not in vain.

For example, before attending Rabash’s lessons, I used to read The Study of the Ten Sefirot and other sources. Questions would arise, and I would write them down and dig into them to develop some analytical ability that would allow me to absorb more from my teacher.

In other words, it is not about understanding, but being prepared to understand what the teacher will say. That you hear things differently from your teacher is a good thing. That is how it should be.

At the next degree, everything becomes simpler and simpler still. And the simplest of all is the simple upper light.

Everything Happens within Desire

243.05It follows from all the above that we must always consider the goal, which is to “do good to His creations.” If the evil inclination comes to a person and asks him all of Pharaoh’s questions, he should not reply with lame excuses, but say, “Now, with your questions, I can begin with the work of bestowal.”

This means that we should not say about the questions of the evil inclination that it came to us in order to lower us from our degree. On the contrary, now it is giving us a place to work (Rabash, Article 22, “The Whole of the Torah Is One Holy Name“).

We rise above the desire to receive, but still work with it because it is the only material we have. What we receive within our desire is the energy that enables us to move, think, and act. Everything happens within desire.

The goal is to transform creation’s desire to receive into the Creator’s desire to bestow. To the extent that we achieve this, we become similar to Him and begin to feel Him.

However, our desire to receive, even when functioning as a desire to bestow, will never become pure bestowal because bestowal is the Creator Himself. But if our desire to receive externally manifests as the Creator’s desire, then it becomes for the sake of bestowal and makes us similar to Him. This is the essence of the process.

Our desire to receive remains intact and continues to grow. We do not resist its growth, but focus solely on how to use it correctly.

This is why our study is called the “wisdom of Kabbalah” and not just “Kabbalah” (receiving). Everyone desires to receive, every element of nature, every atom, and even its particles strive to receive.

Everything moves and exists from a sense of deficiency, a desire to fulfill, sustain, and realize itself.

Kabbalah provides the opportunity to exist in a reversed mode, to live not because we fulfill our desire, but because we bestow through it. This is the essence of the wisdom. It is not simple. We must acquire a special energy, the upper light, to redirect our desire toward bestowal. For this, we need a group, books, and a teacher.

Kabbalah and Religion, Opposite Concepts

202.0Kabbalah and religion are completely opposite concepts. Kabbalah teaches that one must change oneself, whereas religion suggests that performing external actions is sufficient to achieve everything necessary in life and you to attain paradise and all kinds of blessings in the next world.

According to Kabbalah, heaven and hell are states experienced by a person in our world while being in the body. However, one has the opportunity to rise above his body so that it no longer controls him. In this case he will perceive reality beyond the body and will not need to die to experience this.

If one does not reach a state above the body, his death only leads to the most minimal spiritual state, which cannot even be called spiritual. It is merely a state of some detachment from egoism but not the possession of a spiritual quality.

The focus is on the soul of a person who desires to correct it. In our world there is nothing higher than this, and if a person strives for it, you cannot prohibit him.

This is the issue between Kabbalists and the religious who put up a barrier: “Follow the rules up to this point, but do not engage in the development of the soul.”

Read Authentic Sources

165Question: Very often when reading the sources, we hear that one rabbi said one thing and another said almost the opposite. What do these opposing opinions in the sources lead us to?

Answer: The opposite statements in our sources lead us to conclude that all the great Kabbalists say the same thing.

Question: So our method is talking things through, asking for opinions, and coming to one conclusion? Is that what advances us?

Answer: Yes.

Question: How do I read the Psalms of David? As a rule, we read them in a group, try to figure out what he meant, and often realize we cannot. Can we just read them without clarification?

Answer: Psalms are usually read without clarification or explanation because they have a huge potential for holiness.

Don’t Nullify Your Ego

232.05The wisdom of Kabbalah is not like yoga or any other methods or religions that say that we must eradicate the ego. Kabbalah differs from all other systems on this point. We do not eradicate egoism, but use it to create an even greater connection between us despite it and above it. Then this connection will be much higher than the one that was between us before the shattering of Adam.

It is said: “Everyone who has more egoism is greater than others.” Therefore, do not be offended by your egoism, do not curse it, do not try to level it, destroy it, or annul it. There is no need. We must constantly think about how to create the right connections between us above it. This approach is purely Kabbalistic, there is nothing like it anywhere else.

In Kabbalah, you remain the same egoist you were, and on each degree, you become an even greater egoist. This is called growth along the left line, and in the right line you must correct yourself. And so, one above the other. That is why it is said that all transgressions are covered with love. There can be no love without transgressions.

So do not worry about the fact that you are egoists, that you are the most disgusting people on earth, and sometimes are offended by the fact that you are like this. This is all done by the Creator. As it is said: “Turn to the Creator who created this, He will correct everything.” Moreover, our appeal to Him so that He can correct what He has created brings Him contentment and gives us the opportunity to rise above our egoism.

And so, we rise all the time. Left leg—egoism rises, right leg—we rise above it in the quality of bestowal. Reception—bestowal, reception—bestowal, there are two lines, and we are in the middle line. The middle line is called “Adam,” similar to the Creator and consisting of black and white.

TES—The Personal Diary of a Kabbalist

209Question: If the main thing is to attract the light, why do we analyze the structure of the worlds described in TES in such detail in the lesson?

Answer: We do not aim to analyze the detailed structure of the worlds; we only try to gather some details to participate in what Kabbalists tell us.

But when studying TES, like all else, we first have to think about the soul, where all the elements I read about exist and all phenomena occur.

Kabbalists, who have discovered the quality of bestowal within themselves, analyze what actions can be performed in it and write about it. Apart from this, there is nothing, either we are in an imaginary reality of this world, which does not exist and then disappears, that we live in as in a dream, or we reach the genuine reality of bestowal, the reality of the Creator.

After all, there is “None else besides Him,” and if something exists, it is only there. TES tells us how this true reality is revealed to us within our desires.

To the extent I enter into this reality and discover it acting in me, to the extent I join and identify myself with it, I can write about it as a Kabbalist. And other Kabbalists do the same. That is, we all write about the same connection with the eternal upper light and what we reveal in it from our black point of creation, a point out of nothing.

When I reach contact with the light, similarity with it, I feel different phenomena beginning to occur in me, manifesting in me from top to bottom (the light of Hochma) or in width (the light of Hasadim). These phenomena give rise to all sorts of feelings in me; I describe them since I have the opportunity to express them in words and sounds.

But all our impressions come from that black point that encounters the light and becomes like the light. This is the whole science of Kabbalah—the revelation of light inside the black point of creation.

How Can We Learn to Manage Ourselves?

231.04Comment: Genetic engineering has challenged the Bible and says that Adam and Eve were not created by God.

Science has come to the conclusion that even in the formation of an embryo, as well as everywhere else, we observe a certain managing component. By studying the genome and knowing that there are managing and executing cells, it is possible to not only understand, but also to manage this process.

My Response: There are no problems in managing biological processes. But that does not mean that we create them. We interfere with their work, and that is what we call management.

Question: And who creates them?

Answer: This happens on a level above the human being. For this, a person must rise above himself.

How? Here is where the science of Kabbalah appears. Do you want to comprehend the next level? Do you want to reveal it? Please, you can. But to do this, you must seriously work on yourself and the connection with the next level—the managing one.

First of all, imagine that you are under this managing level all the time, under it. It constantly guides you and holds you. You try to get into resonance with it. You are managed by it. You agree and want to be managed by it. You do not want to act on your own—neither with your desires, nor with your thoughts, i.e., neither with your heart nor mind—not in any way!

You only want to feel this level and execute everything with your desire toward it; as it wishes, let it manage you. And you will be happy to add yourself to its governance.

This is how the next step is attained. This is called “annulling oneself,” annulling one’s egoism.

If we act this way, we will begin to feel this next level—its management, its qualities, its nature, and its intention. This is called attaining the Creator, because the next step for me is my Creator.

How to Develop Human Superpowers

282.01Comment: The popular futurist and physicist Michio Kaku, who has interviewed various scientists and researchers, concluded that thanks to technology, we are moving toward a super-future where new devices and machines can help us become better.

My Response: If we could hand out devices to everyone that would constantly make us better instead of phones, that would be great.

Comment: We are talking about the possibility of digitizing a person, digitizing their memories.

My Response: You can do anything you want. But if you do not improve people, you will bring humanity a terrible future.

Today we are on the brink, where if we do not start improving ourselves in line with our technical capabilities, we will lead ourselves to a world where everyone will want to take a pill and die.

There is an enormous supercomputer at work above us. It is eternal; it is true! It is the highest intelligence. It is the Creator, and we here are nothing and no one! Everything that happens to us is done by Him so that we will realize our insignificance and want to connect with Him and, from His level, will see our lives.

Question: What is a superhuman?

Answer: A superhuman is someone who absorbs the qualities of the Creator.

If I turn myself into a collection of all the world’s information, I will just become an idiot. Let us rise spiritually from this Earth! We will remain on it for now, temporarily, in our bodies, but let us begin to rise in spirit and in understanding! We will see another level of information and of actions, a level that does not pertain to our earthly matters. Today we can already imagine it.

Let us rise to our level of governance, where we are governed from, and start seeing everything in completely different definitions, in different volumes, with different limitations. There is nothing earthly there. And from there, we will see where we can go further. But that is a completely different dimension! Not this four-dimensional one, but something else.

Comment: In one of your articles, you write that infinity is an infinite number of connections between creation and the Creator.

My Response: It is unlimited, where there are no separate connections between the Creator and creations, however and whoever they may be, but where they all merge into one whole. Without wires, everything merges into one system.

Question: In neurons, axons serve as connectors. But what is the connecting element in unlimited connections?

Answer: There are none; they disappear. The state becomes a fusion where there is no difference between the controller and the controlled; they complement each other so fully that they turn into a single whole. It is called “One.”

Reading the Primary Sources

525Question: While reading numerous excerpts from the primary sources, our attitude toward the Creator changes significantly. An incredible love for this state arises, which is something difficult to describe. It is a kind of elation, an inclusion in something extraordinary. How can one receive correctly, so as not just to enjoy, but also to bring contentment to the Creator?

Answer: How can you receive correctly? You must receive only if you can turn this reception into bestowal. Then you agree so that by receiving from the Creator, you can bestow to Him, and be closer to Him.

Question: When reading the sources, I always try to build an intention. Is this intention itself already an act of bestowing, and then it is okay to enjoy?

I struggle to grasp this moment because an extraordinary delight comes from the light, greatness, and wisdom of the Creator revealed in the reading. How can I avoid being consumed by this and instead immediately bestow to Him?

Answer: No, you must definitely be impressed. It is these impressions that we must turn into the opposite, into an attitude toward Him as the source of these impressions.

Feel Shamati

216.03Question: Baal HaSulam and Rabash left us a treasure in the form of the Shamati articles. How can we learn to work more deeply with these articles to strengthen our connection and feel each other more?

Answer: First, read an article, and then make an effort to dissolve into the group. Then, read another article, and once again dissolve into the group. Alternate in this way, and each time you will see completely different states, whether in the same article or in different ones. It all depends on you and it will be perceived as new each time, critically new.

My teacher Rabash always opened the notebook with the Shamati articles recorded in it before sleep, read a few lines, and then fell asleep. This notebook was always beside him.

Imagine the degree of Kabbalist he was, and what he saw in these articles that we read now—those of us who do not even understand what the spiritual world means. He had already ascended and descended through all the degrees, played his scales like on a piano, moving up and down through the entire space of the spiritual world, reading the same articles we are now reading.

Therefore everything depends on how connected we are with each other, in order to express from ourselves the attribute of bestowal in caring for the ten. And in this measure, we will feel Shamati.
