Question: Why has the wisdom of Kabbalah become more popular today?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah is a wisdom that has to be revealed in our days to all the people in the world. I have been engaging in it for over 40 years. During this time it has really become more popular and sought after in our world, not because we advertise it but because the world needs it.

The wisdom of Kabbalah tells a person what he is living for and how he can ascend from our world to a state of eternity and perfection.

More and more people today feel the need to reveal the meaning of life because in spite of our broad perspective of our world where we look around and see everything from the top down, all the way to the horizon and beyond the horizon, we don’t know what the meaning of our life is on this small planet at the end of the galaxy. People don’t know what we are living for.

They say that when you look at Earth from space you begin to understand a little. Let’s ascend a bit and look at our small planet and at what we engage in, where we are running, and what we are doing. Stop and look. Our perpetual motion steals the main things from us.

We don’t engage in the most important thing that musts be done in our world, which is getting out of its boundaries. The next world exists, and today it is open for everyone. We are in our world like inside a small room, running around like kids, playing and jumping from one corner to another, but if we just open the door and come out, we will see a huge world before us.

The wisdom of Kabbalah enables us to do so. People feel that it is time. Such desires emerge in them. This is the reason that the wisdom of Kabbalah, which speaks about the fulfillment of these desires, is very popular today, and I offer it to you.

Question: Why do the nations of the world need the wisdom of Kabbalah? Many believe that only Israel needs this.

Answer: The nations of the world specifically need it. The people of Israel are that small fraction of the nations of the world who received the wisdom of Kabbalah in their past. So, today we must restore it in us, realize it again, and disseminate it to the whole world. That is why the people of Israel exist.

Question: If so, why should we reveal the wisdom of Kabbalah to the nations of the world now since the people of Israel have not yet realized it again themselves?

Answer: It is because the time has come. The entire process is happening simultaneously. That is also how it was at the time of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt. The Egyptians needed to know what was happening with the people of Israel who were among them. The entire process is being realized precisely according to plan and according to the spiritual laws that don’t depend on us but are found within the nature of our existence, our ego.

Humanity must gather together into a single system, a single soul; that is what humanity must attain. After that, humanity will ascend through the spiritual levels to an eternal and infinite state.

Comment: You have chosen work that is not easy.

Response: I haven’t chosen anything, this is the mission that was imposed upon me from above and I must carry it out. In a sense, it is possible to say that I am a servant. But when I see the need for what must be done, I do it and nothing else.

Torah, Deuteronomy 12:5: But only to the place which the Lord your God shall choose from all your tribes, to set His Name there; you shall inquire after His dwelling and come there.

The common soul is divided into twelve tribes because it consists of the four-letter name of the Creator “Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey” (called HaVaYaH), and each of these letters includes three lines: right, left, and middle.

Four times three equals twelve parts, i.e., twelve tribes, twelve different types of work to correct the desires that must connect together into one single whole.

The place where the twelve tribes work shall be called the Third Temple – the abode of the Creator. After all, the Creator is where the above-egoistic desires, expectations, and aspirations of the entire humanity connect, as it is written, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples” (Isaiah 56:7).

This was not said about the first two Temples, because they were preliminary ones and had to be destroyed and rebuilt in the form of the Third Temple that will be built in our hearts.

So far we are just beginning to spread this idea throughout the world. But the impulse has been given. We have already started to move in this direction.

When I was young and next to my teacher, it seemed to me that this was about to happen, and now I understand that it is necessary to go and work. After all, the Kabbalists worked on this all these thousands of years and did not panic, did not become depressed, and did not despair.

They knew that they had to put their little stone into the general picture: to attract more and more people, to talk to, show, and at least somehow shape them, to direct them to the vision of the future common state where we can reveal the single Creator in our common heart.

We live in a wonderful time when we make a transition from the absolute concealment of the upper world into its attainment! We begin to talk about this world, develop the method of discovering it, and disseminate it everywhere to both ourselves and the nations of the world.

Of course, this requires time. I hope that my students will have their students, who will continue this work—I am absolutely certain of it. However, when it manifests, it depends on our persistence.

Baal HaSulam says in his article, “The Last Generation” Item 17: “If I lived on an island of savages who cannot be organized according to law but by religion, would I doubt it and leave them to destroy each other?

“From the altruistic perspective everyone is a savage and there is no way that they will accept any solutions unless it is by religion. Who will hesitate to leave them alone until they destroy each other by hydrogen bombs?”

We see that all of mankind behaves like savages, and no one understands the terrible, unavoidable situation the world is advancing to: toward an impending war, a systemic crisis, and climatic disasters. Despite the severity of the situation, people don’t understand that a unique system to exit the general crisis is offered to them here.

Baal HaSulam suggests that we act and not wait “until they destroy each other by hydrogen bombs.”

The wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about two options: people will either listen to what Kabbalists say or a hydrogen war will break out as Baal HaSulam says, and only afterward, as a result of the terrible shocks humanity will undergo, will people be able to perceive the method of general connection into one system in which we should be as integral parts that make up one vessel, a system called Adam, or soul.

In the News (Israel Today): “184 Jewish communities and synagogues in the United States have signed a letter for the protection of the immigrants from the Middle East and Africa seeking refuge on American soil, which promised to provide assistance to these people. …

“These representatives of American Jewry are ready to provide refugees with its services in education, legal protection and financial assistance.

“‘American Jews react to this greatest immigrant crisis in history, as if the victims were our countrymen’ – quotes words of the Vice-President of HIAS Jenny Rosen in the website of the newspaper The Jerusalem Post.”

My Comment: I have no objection to helping other peoples if the right basis for this exists. But, after all, you cannot provide a place next to you for a person who will rape your daughters, murder your parents tomorrow, and hang you. There already have been incidents like these, and we see where it leads.

Question: In principle, do you think that could be?

Answer: I am sure of it if we judge this according to the development of egoism in humanity, and Jews are not providing an example of the correct connection between people, are not restoring the integral system called Adam, and are causing an opposite result through this type of action.

This has happened before. There is nothing new or unexpected here. At one time, Jews were helping young Hitler. There is a lot of documentation on this subject. So history repeats itself.

I believe that the current state of society clearly shows any person, and humanity as a whole, that we have no idea about what is happening to us.

So, we cannot resolve, especially in advance, and in particular issues such as a solution to immigration, as long as it is not clear where we are going, where the world is heading, what we want from life, what will happen over time to the entering community and to those Jewish or Christian communities that accept them. We don’t know what their natural tendencies are and how they will coexist.

If this were sorted out, we would realize the first thing to be done is precise work on correctly understanding what it means to be a society: it must be connected to the manner in which people can get closer to each other despite different religions and currents.

Then, they wouldn’t just open their gates to the immigrants. Rather, first and foremost, they would move them through a very serious educational system to adapt them to the conditions provided to them. However, today, they simply are granting the immigrants aid and the ability to exist as they like.

In this case, Islam will develop in its most distorted form because the Islamic preachers are on the alert and do their best to establish militant Islamic centers in these nations. First, they will behave quietly until they become established. Then, after at least one generation, the “game” will be conducted on a serious level on all fronts.

The goal of Islam is to conquer the entire world. It is written on its flag: “There is no god but Allah, Mohammed—his prophet.”

Question: What is the goal of the Jews?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah explains that we, the Jews, must reveal the method for connecting people. It is up to us to reveal this to the entire world that needs it so much.

But Jews don’t know this, so the method of connection and unity safely remains on hold, as it has been. When will it be revealed? This depends on many factors. When Jews begin to become interested in the reason that others are preparing to strike them, they may become interested and start exploring this: “What are we guilty of?” Then, they will find the answer with the Kabbalists. In the meantime, this question remains rhetorical.

Question: Why did Baal HaSulam write articles that provide a comparative analysis of Kabbalah and philosophy, Kabbalah and psychology, and Kabbalah and science?

Answer: Baal HaSulam lived a hundred years ago when the world had not heard yet about what the wisdom of Kabbalah is. Until that day, Judaism was in a state of stagnation and constantly denied and opposed the wisdom of Kabbalah. He wanted to rouse the sleeping world, especially before the Second World War, before the Holocaust. So in the twenties and thirties of the last century he wrote articles for the people and in 1940 he published the newspaper The Nation.

He planned to produce fifty pamphlets, each one which would include five articles. But he only managed to publish the first journal, which contained the articles, “Matan Torah (The Giving of the Torah),” “The Arvut (Mutual Guarantee),” “Peace in the World,” “The Peace,” and another article. After that, they closed his small publishing house and he said that he would not write any more because the world was not ready yet for this. We can only imagine how much we lost.

The Torah, Deuteronomy, “Ekev,” 10:03 – 10:05: So I made an ark of acacia wood, and I hewed two stone tablets like the first ones, and I ascended the mountain, with the two tablets in my hand. And He inscribed on the tablets, like the first writing, the Ten Commandments, which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain, from the midst of the fire, on the day of the assembly, and the Lord gave them to me.

And I turned and came down from the mountain, and placed the tablets in the ark which I had made, and there they were, as the Lord had commanded me.

This speaks about the same Ten Commandments, but on an entirely different level. It is like saying the same words to a child, an adolescent, and an adult, but all of them will understand differently and will accept and implement the words in different ways.

These commandments are intended for a different generation; therefore, they are different. This is exactly the way this process should happen, and this is how it happened with both Temples when Rabbi Akiva laughed about the destruction of the First Temple and said, “Now I trust that more is exactly what will occur.”

Question: But what was it like for people who saw the tragedy occurring to look at him? The leader of the generation laughing at the very moment when everyone else cried.

Answer: These are two levels of attainment. The problem is that people don’t understand Kabbalists. In order to understand them, a person has to rise to their level. There is no other way. After all, it is said, he who increases knowledge, increases pain. (Ecclesiastes 1:18). In fact, a Kabbalist is the one who worries more than the others, but on the other hand, he also rejoices.

Question: If a generation doesn’t understand the Kabbalist, what was Baal Sulam expecting when he wrote his articles?

Answer: The fact is that there must be some feedback from the generation, and there was none. A Kabbalist mainly works only when he receives a certain task from above.

Baal Sulam didn’t work for the last generation, although he wrote a little bit about it. He lived in a very difficult time, with the creation of the State of Israel, World War II, the Holocaust, and the death of the Jews. He worked specifically to accept and to shape people spiritually at the time he lived here in the land of Israel, and to lay the foundation for the last generation.

Question: Who is the dissemination of the method of unity meant for?

Answer: Since our egoism has reached its complete development in the process of evolution, we are in a crisis with nature that surrounds us. Nature is single and integrated while we are egoists, detached from one another and divided, and so we are opposite from nature.

This leads to a crisis in many aspects of life including the ecology and society. Nature might just omit us out of its system if we don’t reach a state of balance with it. The wisdom of Kabbalah tells us about it in a much simpler way. Love thy friend as thyself is the main law of nature, and it is even simpler to yearn for unity. This is what we explain to people.

Question: The Temple isn’t a house but a spiritual concept, and yet we mourn the destroyed Temple?

Answer: Do we need to mourn the Temple once we understand that it had to fall? Are we sorry about the destroyed house that stood in Jerusalem, or do we mourn its internal structure?

All the hearts had to be in my heart, but I cast them out, not wishing to feel or even allowing them to get close to my heart. This is the real destruction that I mourn.

If we don’t mourn the internal essence of the destruction, we don’t have a chance to reach the correction. Then the destruction of the Temple was useless because it didn’t lead us to any correct conclusions. In this case, we cry only about stones. In fact, with our stony heart we can only feel regret for the stones and no more.

These are meaningless tears that are completely useless. We’ve already reached such a development when we can rise to mourn the real problems: the reason the destruction happened. Then maybe we will decide that it is right that the Temple was destroyed; after all, it was bound to happen. The entire program had to be realized until the time of  the ARI.

However, from the moment the ARI discovered the wisdom of Kabbalah and this method became ready for the correction of the world, everything depended on us. Now we can mourn but not about what happened in history because all of it was in the hands of the Creator. Until the 16^th century, when the wisdom of Kabbalah was revealed thanks to the ARI, it was impossible to change anything.

However, from the time of the ARI onward it is permitted for us to intervene in the process of development of the world and to accelerate it, that is, to change it to a better one with our participation. Then we can write a new story that is different, not as bitter as before! This is what all the Kabbalists mourned.

They wanted to do it very much. Ramchal thought about disseminating the wisdom of Kabbalah to the people, but he wasn’t allowed to do it and he became subject to such persecutions that he had to run away from Italy to Europe. Abulafia did a lot to spread the wisdom of Kabbalah and even taught it to non-Jews.

Baal Shem Tov began to implement wide dissemination of Kabbalah by creating Hassidism. But the countermovement Metnagdim rose, which fought against the revelation of Kabbalah by declaring that Hassidism was a sect. On the basis of their denunciations, Hassidim were imprisoned, although both sides were Jewish. This split is felt even today.

“Metnagdim” is translated as “opponent,” opponents to the dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah, i.e., the method of correction. And the Hassidim argued that it is required to spread it the way Baal Shem Tov taught them and they studied Kabbalistic books.

Today we live in such time when it is necessary to continue this work. After all, we are given much better conditions than 2,000 years ago, and we can realize the purpose of creation in a good way.

We have this opportunity; we don’t just go through it by the easier way, we will grow through the effort of this work. It is impossible to reach the final purpose of creation in the state humanity is in now. We shouldn’t hope that it will happen by itself over time.

We have to be smarter and develop the feelings and mind, and fully reveal the Creator that is a good force, on condition that we will learn to love our neighbor as ourselves. And this is only possible using the method of Kabbalah. The question is only how we use it: either under the pressure of huge disasters, even world wars, or we will understand that we should engage in it right now and begin to implement it. The choice is ours.

Therefore we disseminate the wisdom of Kabbalah among people because otherwise the world is entering the path of great suffering. Of course, in any case the end will be good. However, let’s hope that it will come as a result of our work and not under pressure from the forces of nature that will force us to it by suffering, since it will be more terrible than all the previous destructions of the Temples combined together.

Question: Prior to the ARI, why was it impossible to move to the path of the Light (Achishena)?

Answer: First, the complete shattering of the common desire had to happen on two main layers, which correspond to the destructions of the First and Second Temples. Then the desires fell from the world of Atzilut to the worlds of BYA, and once under the Parsa, the boundary of the world of Atzilut, all these broken shards begin to mix with each other and with the stony heart that wasn’t directly included with the shattering.

All the desires have to mix with each other; this period is called the time of exile. Exile isn’t just a meaningless waiting, but a sequence of ongoing actions, mutual inclusion of broken desires. These desires, previously separated from each other, now connect in all sorts of shapes and become arranged in a ladder according to the degree of their shattering with respect to the upper force.

When they all are distributed into their places from top to bottom, the first action of correction begins. This is what the manifestation of the soul of the ARI means. Therefore, before this time, it was impossible to do anything. However, from the time of the ARI onward, the period of correction begins.

During its evolution, humanity has gone through many preliminary stages of development. It is trying to connect in order to become one man, Adam, like the upper force.

The first time such an attempt was made was in ancient Babylon. Rambam writes the patriarch Abraham gathered many Babylonians around him and organized them into a big group that he later led to the land of Canaan.

Under Jacob’s leadership, they moved to Egypt from the land of Canaan, went through Egyptian slavery, and exited from it under the leadership of Moses. But since they exited ancient Babylon, this group had one constant motto: unity and love your neighbor as yourself.

These weren’t just movements from one country to another. These were stages of development. Their egoism grew and developed, demanding a new method of connection. Abraham’s method wasn’t working anymore because it was suitable only for the period of the forefathers.

This period was over, and a new time had come. Pharaoh symbolized the huge egoism that the group of Abraham had accumulated, and therefore a more effective method of connection was required that was stronger and deeper than the old one.

And then they received the Light that Reforms. In other words, they began to work with the upper force, attracting it through practical attempts to unite. The condition for receiving this force is mutual guarantee. If we are ready to become guarantors for each other, meaning to connect, then we create the quality of unity and love between us, similar to the upper force of nature.

And then on the basis of the principle of similarity and equivalence of qualities, they could attract the positive force of unity, hidden in nature, called the Creator. Although all of nature of this world is based on a negative force, we can attract the positive force and include both of them within ourselves.

Symbols of the negative force that are revealed between them are the golden calf and the numerous other problems and troubles that the Torah tells us about that are haunting them constantly during their wandering in the desert. Despite this, they attract the positive force more and more, until they compensate the entire negative force that is revealed between them with it. It means that they have prepared themselves for the next stage.

This whole process is called forty years of wandering in the desert; it is the acquisition of the positive force that will cover the negative force. In all the egoism that was revealed in them in Egypt, they were given an additional force to enable them to treat each other with compassion. This is called the preparation for entering the land of Israel.

Obviously, we are talking about a new internal state, not about geography nor history.

Entering the land of Israel means that much stronger desires are revealed in them that were not revealed during the previous stage, called the desert. Much stronger egoism is revealed that is called the seven nations inhabiting the land of Israel, which must be destroyed or banished.

Of course, we are not talking about the people, but about the destruction of the egoistic desires inside a person and inside this entire group that is entering a new state, a new level of development.
