An Honorable Kinship with Adam

929Adam HaRishon (the first man) is only called by a name that confuses us and makes us think that we are similar to him, because we are also called people. But this is a spiritual Partzuf (system of bestowal) with which we have no connection yet, not a single point of contact.

To the extent that I acquire the desire to enjoy for the sake of bestowal, I will begin to integrate into this system. But it will not be the “I” that I perceive myself to be today, not my physical body and not my personality. This is a completely new desire, a new intention, perception, and sensation; everything is new.

Therefore, don’t yet think that you belong to the spiritual Partzuf of Adam HaRishon. Adam HaRishon is a construct of a corrected soul. And if I am in a state of bestowal to my neighbor, I adopt his desires and work with them in practice, I ultimately build the Partzuf of Adam HaRishon around me.

But if I have no desire to bestow upon my neighbor, I lack the material to create this Partzuf. I have to create an intention of bestowal over my material (desires), process it, organize it, divide it into Rosh, Toch, and Sof (spiritual head, body, and end), work with intentions, plan, and act.

If I shape myself in this way, I will become a part of Adam HaRishon, and I will be called “man” (Ben Adam, son of Adam). In the meantime, I have no connection with him.

Adam HaRishon’s body is the desires of all souls. If I want to become a part of Adam (and each of us ultimately must do this), I need to include the desires of others from all over the world and begin to fulfill them.

From the World of Shadows to the World of Light

424.01Our entire world is made up of images of receiving because in our desire to enjoy, in our dark material, there is nothing. When a little light shines into it, and this desire is slightly impressed by the light, then various fluids, waves, and shifting currents arise within this desire.

These build within us, within our feelings and mind, the sensation of this world. After all, our world is not the true reality, but what we imagine in our feelings and minds from the light that faintly illuminates desire within in such a tiny, weak, unreal form, since there is no connection between desire and light.

When we unite and a desire is formed that has the power of unity from all its parts, then light manifests within the desire as it unites above the separation that exists between its parts. Accordingly, the light is revealed within it, and then within desire, within the heart and mind, the true forms of light, of bestowal, are revealed.

Whereas in our world, false forms of bestowal unfold within our desires and thoughts, like dark shadows that paint images on a wall. Therefore, we must strive to attain a true picture of reality.

From Circle to Circle Along the Shortest Straight Line

528.04Each group is a “circle” of desires, where everyone is absolutely equal. If we want to determine the difference in their levels, we measure the distance between their central points; this distance is called the “straight line” (Yosher).

Let’s say one group is the group of Rabbi Shimon’s students, great Kabbalists. The second has just reached their first spiritual level. Both form a “circle,” but the difference between them is measured by the “straight line” (Yosher).

Each level, each state, has its own “circles” and a “straight line” stretching from one circle to another through their centers. If a group is already at a spiritual level, even the very first one, there is already a circle between them, albeit a very small one. From its center, we can measure the distance to the center of Rabbi Shimon’s group, and we get exactly 125 levels or states.

To each new state, you ascend along the “straight line” (Yosher), and then build a circle within it. Then you ascend again in a straight line and form a circle. Thus we advance step by step.

And the central point of the “circle,” the shared desire of the group, is the unification of everyone, so that through joint efforts, we can reveal the common quality of bestowal, which is called the Creator.

The Condition for Transition

547.02The preparation period does not mean that we have to arm ourselves with patience and wait for it to pass. It will not pass unless we do everything in our power for to ensure its end in the next moment.

Waiting means that I am ready to invest effort in it every moment, without despair, again and again. And every moment I expect I will receive the reward—the power of bestowal that I demand, and so, again and again, at every moment, tirelessly.

If I am capable of this, if the states (entrances and exits) quickly replace one another, it is a sign that I can truly be awarded a higher, deeper degree. After all, the more transgressions and mistakes a person reveals during preparation, the more one advances in the single and double disclosure beyond the Machsom, and achieves correction.

During the preparation period, the group must provide everyone with the strength of consistency, perseverance, confidence, and patience, understanding that we have no choice, this is how we advance. And so year after year, until we are ready at every moment to give up immediate reward and to work even without it. That means we are worthy of crossing the Machsom.

A person strives so to the next degree that, due to the immense, passionate, burning desire for bestowal in him, he is ready to give it up and continue the stage of preparation. If the Creator wants to give me only this preparation, and I only want to achieve bestowal, then I am satisfied with this, and I do not need the Machsom, and then I receive it.

Feel the Importance of the Creator

942Question: What should I do in order to feel the importance and greatness of the Creator coming from the friends?

Answer: You must respect a friend for the qualities he has, for the fact that he reveals himself in the group, and then you will begin to receive through him the light of the Creator.

Question: And who gives me this importance of the Creator? The Creator? Or is it my own effort?

Answer: The Creator begins, but you complete it. At the basis of these actions lies prayer.

Question: How do I gather it so that it becomes a true prayer, and not just me whining and complaining?

Answer: Think about it. Think about it all the time.

In the Connection Between Us

942Question: RABASH writes that the purpose of the group is that the Shechina should dwell among us. How can we picture this: everyone the same, or each in his own way?

Answer: Each in his own way. But still, it is precisely the connection between us that then turns into connection with the Creator.

Question: And how is this connected with awe before the Creator?

Answer: Awe is that feeling which we discover in the connection between us.

938.03Question: How does awe before the Creator differ from awe of using one’s receiving Kli, which is discussed in RABASH’s article “Purpose of Society – 1”?

Answer: By using our Kli (the natural, innate desire to receive), we discover all sorts of desires to receive. And if we connect with other companions, our desires become a shared, mutual desire to bestow.

Thus, in our connection, a shared desire to bestow is revealed that is directed toward the Creator. This is the difference between each individual’s desire and the desire of the group.

A group is one and one more, one and two more, one and three more. The quantity is not so important; the direction is what matters. In this case, everyone’s desire will be directed toward their friends.

Question: However, RABASH is talking specifically about awe.

Answer: Awe is a state when a person deeply desires something but has not yet received it, has not mastered it. We will still attain awe. Everyone will have it.

Insist on Getting Closer

931.01Question: What does the concept of “engaging in elevating the Creator” encompass?

Answer: It means that a person’s intention is to cause the Creator to ascend gradually through their actions. This is his entire reward.

Question: How can we clarify whether our actions elevate the Creator in our minds and hearts?

Answer: You do it by trying to connect with other groups on the issues you are discussing. In this way, you will feel yourself gradually drawing closer.

And what is very important, not to detach from one another after the lessons, after the exercises, but rather insist on closeness and unification within the ten and between the tens.

The Nearest Task

947Question: What does it mean to the Creator that we have gathered in as a group? What do we mean to Him as a group?

Answer: To Him we are particles of creation, created by Him, that wish to unite in order to learn what it means to be together and for their union to be similar to the property of the Creator.

And then, inside our union, we will begin to reveal Him. This is our task now.
