Resemble the Teacher

165Question: It is said that a student can use the attainment of the greatness of the Creator reached by his teacher, which turns bestowal into reception and becomes his fuel. How does this happen?

Answer: There are such examples in our world. If we begin to feel greater strength in achieving something, we can thus draw closer to that goal and master it.

Question: You, Rabash, and Baal HaSulam want to pass light to us. There are many of us here, and this gives us great strength. What condition can we meet now to open ourselves at least a little for receiving the light?

Answer: For this you must be interconnected with one another, study together what the Kabbalists talk about, try to implement it in your connections with one another, and together appeal to the Creator. Thus, you receive strength from Him.

To become similar in form to your teacher means that just as the teacher is now in some kind of connection with the Creator, the student can receive from him the forms of attitude toward all creations and apply himself accordingly.

Question: It is difficult to measure our inner efforts of devotion to the teacher. Are there any external criteria for when I can say that I am committed to him?

Answer: You need to follow all his instructions in the group and your studies. Do your best, and that is it. In this way you will receive strength from him.

The Common Power of Unity

942There is a special power in the adhesion of friends. Since the views and thoughts pass from one to the other through the adhesion between them, each is incorporated with the powers of the other, and by that, each one has the power of the whole society.

Therefore, although each person is an individual, he has the power of the whole society (Rabash, “The Need for Love of Friends”).

The power of all is our common power with which we all come closer together and with the Creator.

If we unite with our friends, feel their desires, their path, their goal, and want to move forward with them, then in the end this happens to us.

Question: When friends ask questions, I try to feel their hearts. I do not feel it yet, but I really want to. We all try to feel each other’s hearts and keep going. What is next?

Answer: Continue until we unite, until we perceive in our feelings, desires, and intentions that we want an internal connection between ourselves and the friends. Only the Creator can give such a connection. And He gives it to us.

But we do not just wait for it to happen. We ask the Creator; we persistently demand it from Him.

Question: Can I do this at the same time: to try to unite, and—for each internal in-and-out—to demand the connection of our hearts?

Answer: Yes.

Become a Synchronized Mechanism

75.01Each and every individual in society is like a wheel that is linked to several other wheels placed in a machine (Baal HaSulam, “Peace in the World”).

Question: When the Creator brings us into a group, we have a certain role to start functioning like a cogwheel in a machine. But sometimes it takes years before I begin to understand that I depend on my friends.

We are just beginning to study the mechanism, but are not yet working like a machine. Could it be that some cogwheels work faster in their internal development than others?

Answer: That is not our concern, but the Creator’s. He sets the entire machine in motion and ensures the correct combination between all its parts, as there are millions of them, and each one performs its unique role, different from the others. Therefore only a force outside of us can do this.

Question: Until we start functioning as one mechanism, how can we help each friend find his or her place so they becomes part of the mechanism?

Answer: In the machine’s operation, there is a state where all its parts work together and move the mechanism as a whole. And there is a state where these parts start up individually, depending on how much they understand the launching of the machine and its operation.

Therefore we need to study this system, stay connected with each other, and eventually we will begin to understand and sense its proper functioning and our place in it.

A person in their development in this world reaches a point where they must know why they were created. When they start asking, “What was I created for, and what is the purpose of my life?” they gradually come closer to entering the system of our world, reveals it, and thus begin to understand their role.

Restore Your Part of the Common Soul

945Question: We must become faithful helpers of the Creator. Is the calculation done with each individual or only with the ten?

Answer: The calculation is done both with each individual and with the ten.

To bring the ten closer to this work, we must talk about it, discuss it, and constantly stay focused on it. This is not too difficult because we are all interconnected and have no other choice.

We truly exist within a single system. If this system is correctly activated, with our proper participation, everyone will benefit, and we will reach the goal of creation more quickly without wandering into unnecessary decisions and actions.

We must engage in a common goal, and in order to achieve it, we will connect with each other in various unities. In this way, we will more quickly restore our part, our block, our portion of the common soul.

Similarity Is Defined by the Goal

942Comment: We all have different qualities. According to what do we rise above them?

Answer: While in the group, I want to unite with my friends, to be like them, accepted by them. We do certain exercises together, and through this, we come to understand each other more.

Even if I do not hear them, as a result of going through certain states together, each one becomes similar to the other and resembles the other.

Question Your Perceptions

528.04Question: You said that we need to question our feelings, our perception, and to enter the ten. Does this mean that we should subject our perception to the criticism of the group?

Answer: I think this is necessary.

Question: In such moments, I feel the urge to escape from the unbearable state. There is no sense that the group is helping. What should I hold onto to not run away?

Answer: Hold onto your friends.

Question: Is this the process of the recognition of evil?

Answer: The recognition of evil happens gradually.

Question: What is needed for this to become a correction?

Answer: The desire.

The Teacher’s Request to the Students

231.04Question: What is your request to us in order to see us as your students?

Answer: I ask only one thing of you: hold onto each other and all together hold onto the Creator. This will lead you to final correction, liberation from all the evils of this world, and to the attainment of the highest degrees of the spiritual world.

Go Through All the Stages of Correction

934Question: Is there room for mistakes in each person’s spiritual work in the ten that could negatively affect others? Or are all mistakes also a part of correction?

Answer: They are a part of correction, but mistakes do happen.

Question: Can they affect the work of the entire ten?

Answer: Even more than just the ten.

Question: How can we avoid making mistakes?

Answer: You should be afraid of distancing yourself from your friends. The closer you are to each other, the fewer chances you have to make a mistake.

For every member of the ten to take their proper place, the ten must be ready to go through all the stages of correction. It is not that difficult. But the friends need to know this and be prepared for it.

Learn From the Attainment of Kabbalists

528.01Question: Each Kabbalist acts in his generation according to the power of the light. Is the light getting stronger, and what can we do to increase it?

Answer: Day by day we must test ourselves to what extent we can carry out what the Kabbalists said, each person at his level and degree, based on his reasons, each tries to do what they said.

Then we will feel we are climbing the steps of the spiritual ladder and so are ascending to the highest state.

All Kabbalists who attained the upper world, the Creator, can explain our path to the Creator to us, and can explain how we are interconnected with each other and with them. After all, altogether we represent one unified system in which everyone helps another attain the Creator, connect with Him, and pass this connection over to others.

We must try to learn from our teachers to pass on our methodology.

For the Sake of Bestowal

567.04Question: Let’s say I am in bestowal, seemingly without any calculation, above knowledge. But at the same time, there is a calculation of “what’s mine is mine,” and “what’s yours is yours.” How do we transition from this to “what is yours is yours” and “what is mine is yours?” How does it fit together?

Answer: “What’s mine is yours” and “what’s yours is yours” is complete bestowal, the highest attitude one person has toward another. “What’s mine is mine” and “what’s yours is yours” is complete reception. Between them, there is “what’s mine is mine” and “what’s yours is mine”—this is sheer egoism.

How can I connect these states? Everything that I can give, I give. I also receive everything I can receive for the sake of another because, in this case, my receiving is like giving. It turns out that I give everything I can, and everything I receive is also equivalent to giving. That is how we act.

If all our thoughts are only for the sake of giving, then we are completely righteous. If we want everything for ourselves, then we are absolute villains, sinners. This is where the dilemma arises, how do we divide our states into sinful and righteous ones.

Therefore, Kabbalists advise us to divide our desires into giving and receiving. Those who work for the sake of bestowal will be called righteous, and those who work for the sake of receiving will be called sinners.
