The Great Rabash

917.02Comment: I can relate to you and to the writings of Baal HaSulam, but I feel Rabash is somehow in between, and I cannot quite grasp him.

My Response: I understand you on the one hand. But on the other hand, it is completely not the case. Rabash gave us all the foundations of spiritual work. Before him, they had not been presented systematically. Kabbalists either wrote commentaries on the Torah, or letters, and articles, but a systematic presentation of the inner work a person must do to attain the Creator was given to us only by my teacher Rabash.

He wrote nearly 500 articles on this topic. In them, he expressed absolutely all the states of a person starting the spiritual path from zero and moving forward.

What Rabash did is a priceless contribution to Kabbalah! It is such an invaluable, irreplaceable help for a beginner, one that cannot be drawn from The Book of Zohar, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, or any other works!

On one hand he was a great Kabbalist, and on the other a very concealed one and cunning in how he concealed himself, how he hid everything, and stayed in the shadow of his father!

You are right when you say, “Somehow I don’t see him, he just slips past.” He truly diminished himself: “Who am I? My father was the great Kabbalist.”

Rabash was the greatest Kabbalist, with such discoveries, such achievements, such writings, and yet he constantly concealed it: “I just study a little,” and so on. No one knew him or understood him.

He was a great practitioner, a great systematizer, a great teacher, a great educator!

In his articles, he laid out the system of spiritual work in various forms suitable for every person, every soul, every style, at all times and states that we go through.

I could speak endlessly about what he did! Not because he was my teacher, the closest and dearest person to me, but because he truly did something for us without which we could not take a single step forward. We could not!

Now that we are finally beginning to study his articles seriously, I hope we will come to realize this. It is a very serious work, incomparable to anything else.

The Brain of Humanity

032.01Question: According to statistics, a significant portion of Americans feel overwhelmed by the abundance of news. Seven out of ten Americans (68%) say: “We are fed up with the news; it is too much for us; we feel bad because of it.”

Is a person unable to just disconnect? Just turn off the news?

Answer: No, they cannot. I know this, and I feel this pressure too. One has to actively resist and turn off the news.

Question: How can an ordinary person free himself from this pressure?

Answer: Sift through the day’s news, and you will be left with, at most, two or three small pieces of actual news. Everything else is just filler.

Question: What is this phenomenon that the world pushes itself into a person and forces its way inside him?

Answer: I think this is already starting to burn out.

Question: And what will come next?

Answer: I hope it will be the question about the meaning of life because it is this question that drives this whole revolution.

Question: So will we eventually come to deeper communication with each other?

Answer: No. We will not get to this communication in a natural way. It is very threatening to our egoism; it pressures and obliges it. That is why I do not believe that connection or communication is our near future. It is our distant future. Only when we realize that we cannot go on like this anymore will we move toward connection in a very special way.

Question: Then where do you find the strength to spread the wisdom of Kabbalah even though you keep saying that one way or another, we must reach unity and connection?

Answer: You are thinking like an old-school materialist who believes that he has to lead humanity to happiness through his slogans.

I know it will happen in a completely different way. A small group of people, moved by an inner spark, will create proper relationships among themselves and through nature’s internal structure will influence all of humanity. And all of humanity will begin to resemble them, without even realizing it.

This small group will become like the head, the brain of humanity. As they change, all of humanity will follow them automatically, like a shadow.

Question: So you claim that all responsibility lies on this small group?

Answer: Yes. Good luck!

Become a Model of Mutual Responsibility and Love

259.02Question: How can Israel take upon itself the duty of mutual responsibility today?

Answer: Israel is obligated to be both an example and a source in relation to the entire world.

It must become a model of mutual responsibility, love, and striving for unity with the Creator. At the same time, it must be the source of the force that spreads the power to implement this throughout the world so that the entire world enters into mutual responsibility, love for others, and as a result, unity with the Creator.

What is important for us? Should we focus only on those who are currently called “Israel”? Or should we also engage with those who are within the nations of the world, or with the nations of the world within Israel, people we do not even know who they are? How can this be verified? By passport? That is a big question.

To belong to the nation of Israel has not always historically been determined by the mother and among the nations of the world by the father. This started relatively recently. So nationality is a very shaky concept. By what criteria can we decide who is Israel and who are the nations of the world? How should we relate to one or the other? And can we even relate to them based on the data available to us? Does this really correspond to the root of the soul?

Anyone who has studied history even a little sees how unstable all of this is and how lacking in a solid foundation.

In the Middle Ages, there were Kabbalists who taught Kabbalah to representatives of other nations, and just think what times those were! In accordance with spiritual laws, they determined who was called Israel and who were the nations of the world. After the spiritual shattering, such distinctions seemingly disappeared. Whoever has a spark of Israel awakened within, you can teach him, and he is capable of beginning the correction. That is one side of the matter.

On the other hand, we still must work with that part of the nation of Israel  that is connected to the external part of the Torah, with the practical observance of commandments without intention, and somehow we must convince them to engage in intention.

Baal HaSulam writes about this at the end of the “Introduction to The Book of Zohar.” He says that this is precisely the essence of correction. We are obligated to work with everyone who desires it, in all countries and among all nations without exception, even if we have no idea who they are or what they represent, that is, with anyone who has been awakened.

On the other hand, ultimately we will be forced to focus on the religious society, and within it to cause a shift in the perception of importance from the external to the internal. Baal HaSulam states in the “Introduction to The Book of Zohar” that this is what will change the entire reality.

If, within the people of Israel, the very group that adheres to the external part of the Torah shifts its attention to the internal part, this will change the whole world. For then the inner part is corrected, and all other parts begin to align accordingly.

Thus, the work must proceed in two directions.

Impartial Dissemination

271Question: Why should one not introduce emotion when explaining things to the masses if it can help attract an audience?

Answer: The point is that when you introduce emotion into an explanation, you introduce yourself, either your empty Kelim or Kelim that have been filled. But this is something personal.

And when you speak rationally, you are talking about facts, which are seemingly above emotion. Facts are facts. They are like faith above reason. Whether you like it or not, it is the law, it is reality. Then you pass it on to others as something independent of you or of them.

You are simply giving people the opportunity to see the law; whether they want to be for it or against it, that is their business. If not, we will enter another round of suffering. And the person will translate this into their own feelings.

I would say that this kind of dissemination is the best: you do not look inspired by what you are saying, but you speak as if your “self” has been removed from the topic altogether.

You are like a mechanism issuing information, and that is it. It does not matter whether you belong to the nation of Israel or to the nations of the world, you are like an auxiliary force, a sort of angel from heaven, telling people what is happening.

This is best, because then everyone feels that you are impartial.

But by being impartial, you speak to people in a way that awakens feelings in them. This is precisely the form we must find in dissemination, even though it both depends on us and does not depend on us.

Because life will soon become such that a person will immediately feel that here you have touched their innermost point.

What Is Happening Today?

294.2We are now at a point in time when the world is ready to embrace the method of spiritual correction. If such thoughts and awareness are awakening in the world( as we have seen recently), it is a clear sign that the world is indeed ready.

If, under the pressure of suffering and the question of life’s meaning, people begin to ask “What is the point of the Jewish people’s existence?”, then the answer to that can also begin to be understood.

Humanity is now undergoing very deep, powerful processes. The thoughts circulating around the world, especially in a world interconnected through modern communication, are once again leading to the mixing of Reshimot from the time of the breaking of the vessels.

What is happening today? The world will soon unite around the idea that there is a certain nation, as Haman once said, that interferes with everyone, and that the solution is simply to eliminate it.

This idea will soon become fashionable. Every “cultured” person will begin to speak of it in a respectable, acceptable way, and present himself as understanding the real structure of the world and identifying the source of its evil.

He will express his desire to fix the world, to make it better, by surgically removing the “evil” from it. This will appear very clear, very rational, very scientific, supported by historical and philosophical arguments, and it will be presented as something real and correct.

After all, the Germans were also the most cultured and developed nation at the time of the Holocaust. And that was not by chance. That is how this entire philosophy developed, though it is not new; it has existed since the time of the destruction of the temple.

So if such questions arise: “What is the cause, and what is the answer?”, it means the world is now more ready to hear.

Clarifications and Corrections

276.02Question: In striving to achieve mutual guarantee, is it possible that we are directing too much effort outward instead of acting within ourselves?

Answer: This might be valid if we didn’t find in practice that engaging in external dissemination unites us, gives us confidence, strength, and upliftment, which we receive back from the communities we serve.

By building something outwardly, we thereby build ourselves. It is impossible to say what the correct balance should be. We try. This, essentially, is a kind of action called “we will do and we will hear.”

We see that we are constantly undergoing changes. One must act according to the understanding of one’s state. What else can we do? This is our path, because seeking and discovering is that practical work through which we carry out clarifications and corrections.

To aspire toward the final state is good. But by discovering different things now and performing tiny actions, we generate details of perception without which the end of correction cannot be felt.

The difference between the end of correction and the beginning of creation lies only in the added details of our perception (Avchanot), which we collect along the way.

You return to the same state, only inside yourself you become more diverse and more refined; more opposite details of perception and distinguishable inner qualities appear within you.

This is what allows you, instead of being a point merged with the Creator as you once were, to become a Partzuf and truly existing on His level.

Who Holds the Method for Happiness?

963.4Gradually we begin to see that the people of Israel have no hope for success in economics, security, international recognition, and not even in simple material existence. We exist in this world as a completely useless part of it, and the world despises and hates this part.

This is a law of nature! We are all within nature, and its law is that the entire human part of the world must be in adhesion with the Creator. This is what we must bring everyone to.

We have a method that helps the human part, each and every one, come to equivalence of form with the Creator, due to which a person begins to feel that there are higher components besides his animal part within him. Even in his animal part, he also feels himself in serene peace, in perfection and eternity.

That’s all! The method of how to be happy is in our hands! And this we must reveal to everyone, and first of all to our own people because they are destined to suffer more than others. So let them know why they suffer; it is because they must implement this method before others and teach it to the rest of the nations.

The Creator Himself, as it were, cannot give the Torah to all the nations, cannot bring humanity to the highest level of existence. This can be fulfilled only through us.

Search for Correct Forms of Dissemination

231.01Question: What do we lack more in dissemination: physical or internal efforts?

Answer: We lack both internal dissemination, inside ourselves, and dissemination in the group—the group to each one, and each one to the group—and dissemination outside the group, to the people.

We must disseminate to the people both internally, in thoughts, when we think about it and want it to happen, which is called prayer for the society, and also in the form accepted in the world, in action. In other words, both in our spiritual plane at the level of thoughts, desires, and in the plane of physical, corporeal actions.

We must look for such forms so that a person accepts what is good for him, what he will not accept in any other way. Just as suitable food is specially prepared for a sick person: for example, more liquid, not too fatty, etc., so we must do this. Our task is to prepare medicine for the people in such a way that they can swallow it.

But this does not mean that we should lag behind. After all, in the case of a sick person, you do not waste time; you immediately give him what is good for him, but in a form in which he can accept it so that everything is better absorbed in him. It is the same way here!

Therefore, we need to distribute delicately and slowly, while taking into account the capabilities of people.

Fulfill Your Duty without Any Calculations

625.06Question: We understand that it is us who lack something, not the nations of the world, and as soon as we take a step forward, it will be revealed in them as well. What is it that we lack?

Answer: We lack a Jew like you who has access to the people that is fulfilling the task placed upon him! That is, you must pull yourself together, gather your strength, and start doing what is necessary for correction!

Question: In what sense?

Answer: Without senses and explanations! Bring to each and every one of your people the knowledge of what our duty is.

Comment: But they do not accept it.

My Response: It does not matter that they do not accept it. You must do the work without making calculations. The results of it should not be visible to our eyes at all. The consequences come differently.

From your work in this small country aimed at awakening the people, you may not see any results here. But suddenly, Americans will start talking about it, and then it will be accepted by our whole nation. Why? Because of our intermingling and mutual incorporation with foreign cultures.

How do you know in what form it must come? You must do what you are obligated to do. That is why many say: “What do you want from us? It is all true, but what can I do?” A person responds like this even without knowing Kabbalah. But why do you, knowing all this, say the same thing?

All these things are not theoretical! They are given to us so we may fulfill them. The Torah is not a subject to study like philosophy. There is nothing in it that is subject to theoretical contemplation! It is subject to realization. It is our life, it is the most general law of the universe that encompasses all other laws.

What Does a Kabbalist Want?

278.03I want to see everything in this world that can be seen and achieve everything in it that can be achieved. In the spiritual realm, that is not a problem. But to embody spirituality in this world, that is the real task.

I am not concerned with how long I live. I want to see the world accept the wisdom of Kabbalah as the method for its continued existence, a method for rising from temporary life on Earth into another dimension: the spiritual one.

When people begin to feel this, to accept this theory and way of life, when they come to see that they must rise to the next stage, that this entire world we currently perceive and experience is a kind of construct that exists only in order to ascend above it, when they accept what Baal HaSulam and my teacher, his eldest son Rabash, have prepared for them, then that will truly be the straight path to the light.

But until then, who knows what suffering humanity may still have to endure? One way or another, it will reach this conclusion, but whether it happens with minimal pain, that, no one knows.

That is why I would like to be present in all the decisions and help humanity take its first steps toward accepting Kabbalah as the method for its final development.
