The Effectiveness of a Single Thought

202.0Question: How should a person properly adjust himself in thought?

Answer: Our job is to combine all our desires into one single desire, all thoughts into one single thought.

Apart from desire and thought, heart and mind, there is nothing else in a person. It is necessary that all hearts and all intentions come together. In principle, nothing else exists.

The more effectively you connect with others, the more you have a great opportunity to experience the inner world, not our animate world, but the next degree where we are connected.

Such a gradual, consistent, causal connection goes through 125 degrees until our complete connection.

The Evil Eye

962.3Comment: You once said that praising someone for the work he has done in spiritual development is bad for a person because he advances not on his fuel but on the fuel of others.

My Response: It depends on what he is praised for and how. But it really can stop a person. There is the concept of a jinx. In Hebrew, this is called an evil eye.

If a lot of people think badly of you, then, of course, nothing good comes out of it. At some level, this affects a person because we are all connected.

There are a great number of forces in the world with a hierarchy and purposefulness. If I have to go forward, lead others, or do something, then in doing so I call some negative opinions upon myself. It all depends on what I do.

There is no single force at work here, but a whole system. My teacher Rabash emphasized this and said that one should be afraid of the evil eye, i.e., others’ bad opinion when people talk and think badly about you. You have to try to avoid it because it harms you.

The main thing is not to cause feelings of envy. It is not good. Therefore, when they scold me and say: “And who are you after all?” and so on, I am content.

Comment: But in Kabbalah, on the contrary, envy advances a person.

My Response: If you are envious of something good in a person and you want to be like him, then such envy advances you. But when you are envious and want him to fall below you so he does not have what you envy, this is bad envy. That is why it is called the evil eye, not the good one.

Method of Personal Development

630.2Comment: It is said that you can go mad from Kabbalah.

My Response: Kabbalah introduces you to the general hologram of the universe, and you see an absolutely correct, real picture, and everyone in it from the outside: how small and flawed they are, that they are perceiving everything somewhat distorted, like little children.

But it is impossible to go mad from Kabbalah. Of course, this is not an easy science, but it is a method of personal development.

While engaging in the implementation of the method, you are under pressures that force you to develop. Therefore, it often seems to a person that he loses himself, passes from one ray of vision to the second, third, and fourth one, that he looks at the picture of the universe from different angles, and sees the entire reality from inside and outside. He changes at every level, which a person in corporeal life generally cannot do. Of course, this is not easy.

But, on the other hand, although it is stressful work, it never fails. Never! Of course, it takes nerves, there are strong tensions, but this is development.

“Where has the world come to?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: “Where has the world come to?“

There is a higher force in nature that controls the reality we live in, and no matter what efforts we make, we can do nothing outside of this force’s plan and control.

We should thus try to understand the destination to which this force advances us, what it wants from us, and that everything we have done, do and will do is its outcome.

We hope that one day we will attain true knowledge and awareness of where we are, what existence and environment we are in, and the forces that operate on us.

We are tiny particles of creation who think that we understand something about it. Also, when we understand something, we use that understanding solely for self-benefit.

What can we thus say about our participation, efforts and the goal we try to place before ourselves? Until now, it was all for the worse.

The more we have developed science, technology, medicine, art and culture to improve our lives, the more we find ourselves immersed in increasing problems on all scales, with abounding depression, anxiety, stress, drug abuse, suicides, social division, unemployment, poverty, crime, nuclear anxiety and natural disasters, to name a few.

Everything that we have created to benefit ourselves, from our self-centered mind and feelings, has ended up in the creation of a terrible world, which continues sinking into more and more problems from one crisis to the next.

We are fast approaching the realization that our myriad efforts to make a better world are futile, and it is in order to show us that we are operating on faulty self-aimed desires that base our every thought and action.

Until we undergo an upgraded learning process to discover the nature of our desires, our world, the laws of nature, and how we can harmonize ourselves with those laws, we will continue bearing witness to a deteriorating world.

When the Soul Flies Away

276.01Question: There is a very short prayer called Modeh Ani, which is a morning prayer in which a person thanks the Creator. Before getting out of bed, just as he opens his eyes, he says this prayer: “I offer thanks to You, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me; Your faithfulness is great!”

Please explain why it starts with gratitude?

Answer: “Modeh ani lefanecha, I thank You.” For what? “Melech chai ve kayam”—that You fill the whole world, You control the whole world, only You.

Question: It says: “Thank You, living and eternal King,” What “eternal” means is somehow understandable. What is “living”?

Answer: “Living” means which exists in everything that exists. Without His presence in something, it would not exist.

Question: So every person should start any day with this gratitude?

Answer: With the fact that he got up to get to know the Creator. This is the beginning of the day for absolutely anyone. “Melech chai ve kayam, she he chezarta bi nishmati”—”for You have mercifully restored my soul within me; Your faithfulness is great!”

Question: Did He take the soul?

Answer: He takes it in the evening and returns it in the morning.

Question: The fact that I go to bed and go to sleep, is it called that I give my soul for this time?

Answer: The soul flies away.

Question: And how do the Kabbalists explain that the soul “leaves” for this time?

Answer: A person enters a dream, and he no longer controls himself, and therefore his obvious connection with the Creator is cut off. Only the Creator is the master over him during sleep, at night. And in the morning a person gets his soul back and thanks the Creator for it.

Question: You just said that the soul is my connection with the Creator. Is this called a soul?

Answer: Yes. And at the time of sleep, it kind of breaks off.

Question: “For You have mercifully restored my soul within me,” does this mean that it is the Creator who decides whether to return it or not?

Answer: Yes.

Question: What is night then?

Answer: This is when the soul, so to say, breaks away from the body, and a person feels only a dream or his animal state.

Question: Then here’s the question: can night come during the day? Or do I have to fall asleep?

Answer: No. Can you imagine how many people don’t wake up at all?!

Question: So these are people without a soul? The Creator took it and does not return it?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Why?

Answer: It’s quieter in the world. A man without a soul is better off. You have to work on your soul and be thankful for it.

Question: And then: “Your faithfulness is great!” Am I repeating this as a mantra: “Your faithfulness is great!”?

Answer: No. Because thanks to the fact that I believe in You, I am connected to You, thanks to this, I wake up to a new day. “Raba emunatecha”—great is the faith in You.

Question: Do I imagine it or does it live within me? Or should I repeat this as a physical exercise in order to establish a “muscle” of connection with the Creator? Your faithfulness is great! Your faithfulness is great! Your faithfulness is great!

Answer: It just forms within a person, inside him.

Question: When we analyzed the prayer for the road, you said that the road is where a person goes from state to state. This is not a way from city to city.

And here, too, is this prayer also from state to state?

Answer: Yes.

Question: So you don’t have to say it in the morning when you just opened your eyes?

Answer: No, it has nothing to do with day and night at all. In Kabbalah, a day is when I have enlightenment, when I see, feel, and have a connection with the Creator. And night is when a state descends of twilight on the soul and on the heart. And when the dawn comes next, I have to say such a prayer.

Question: Is it necessary to pronounce it in these exact words or not?

Answer: No, in principle, all this can be said differently.

Question: And what should a person say from the heart?

Answer: How good it is for me to be connected with the Creator, this is a day for me. And how bad and sad it is for me to be alone without the Creator, for me it is like night.

What Is Hypnosis in Spirituality?

237Question: What is hypnosis in spirituality?

Answer: I do not know. In spirituality, there is a state when a person goes by faith above reason. Maybe it can be called some kind of hypnosis? That is, it is a state of complete and explicit wakefulness.

In spirituality, sleep is a certain disconnection from the real state, when a person consciously lowers the level of light within himself from GAR to VAK.

There are such measures of attainment of spiritual space as sitting, standing, wakefulness, sleeping, and so on.

How to Overcome Stress?

565.02Question: Why is the first reaction of a person under stress to get drunk or take some kind of sedative? Is there any substitute for this?

Answer: The best substitute is not to be alone with the cause of the stress, to break away from it. This happens if I am in a group that immediately starts discussing the cause of stress and working with it, that gives me all sorts of advice, their empathy, and solves this problem for me.

This is the only real solution because it is a solution. It is not escaping it, not postponing for the future, but working together with others on what caused stress in me.

Others understand my stressful state and take it upon themselves. And I, understanding that they take it upon themselves, as if, overcome the stress. Then I feel that, in principle, I received this state precisely in order to pass it on to them and so that by engaging in this and correcting the cause of stress, they would connect even more with each other.

This can be compared to the way some organ in the body begins to send an SOS, and the whole body instantly comes to its aid and takes it upon itself to compensate for the problem in which it found itself.

Thus, shifting the problem to the rest of the body, it gets out of it. This is the only way to really correct any cause of any stress.

The Brain of the Mentally Ill

13.03Question: Very often we associate a person’s appearance with some way. Let’s say I have a friend who looks and thinks a certain way, and all of a sudden he goes crazy. But, in principle, outwardly it looks as usual, but it is not at all adequate. What’s going on with him?

Very often we associate a person’s appearance with a certain image. Let’s say I have a friend who looks and thinks a certain way, and he all of a sudden becomes mentally ill. However, in principle, he looks as usual externally, but he is absolutely inadequate. What is happening to him?

Answer: There are problems in the brain. There are no diseases as such, we are not ill with anything. Our disease is an incorrect perception of reality at the inanimate, vegetative, animate, or human level.

Our brain is a holographic system that is connected to the brain of the universe, with all the brains, if I may say so, of inanimate, vegetative, animate, or human beings at the general level of information, energy, that archives transmission of all data and their reproduction.

We all represent one single system, only each of us feels it as much as he can enter into it, solidify, and work in it.

Why is Kabbalah called “the science of reception”? Although each of us is now on the far periphery of this common, global holographic device of the entire universe, Kabbalah allows a person to enter it and perceive everything that is happening within the immense collective desire and thought on all levels.

It is like a holographic image that is created with lasers at different angles and which can then absorb an absolutely infinite amount of information. But while each of us has not yet entered this picture, he perceives only his small part. Therefore, sometimes he perceives it from a certain broken angle. In the material world, this is characterized by us as some kind of psychological, psychiatric problems.

Kabbalah tunes a person to enter and exist within this n-dimensional holographic picture. Then for him there will be no problems of time, distance, all kinds of past, present, and future events, as well as movements at the levels of this hologram, when he sees it from different angles, from different sides and all together.

This is the state we must achieve. This holographic volumetric system is the authentic universe.

Question: Can a person with mental disorders undergo correction?

Answer: No, they cannot because they have a problem with perceiving reality in the correct sequence, and they are unable to be in contact with us.

Such people have always existed. But as humanity gets closer and closer to the correct entry into the general hologram of the universe, it will be easier for us to work with them, and fewer people will have mental problems.
