First And Second Restriction

548.01This is the meaning of our sages’ words (Beresheet Rabbah, end of Portion 12): “In the beginning, He contemplated creating the world with the quality of judgment [Din]. He saw that the world could not exist and brought forward the quality of mercy [Rachamim] and associated it with the quality of judgment” (Baal HaSulam “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah” Item 58).

We want to receive pleasure; it is our nature. The first restriction says that it is forbidden to receive from the Creator for our own sake; we will not receive anything and will remain in the emptiness.

The Creator, as if, raised the quality of Malchut into Bina, meaning mixed the quality of judgment with the quality of mercy. After all, the world cannot exist, but only by restrictions. Therefore, even in our world, we can not only receive, but also give something, albeit purely egoistically.

The second restriction is the prohibition of using egoistic Kelim even for the sake of the Creator.

Punishment for the Rift in Society

294.2Question: What condition in Israel’s current war would you call victory? What is a victory for you?

Answer: It is a state where both sides raise their hands and agree not to fight anymore.

Comment: Many people say that one of the reasons for the current war was the split in Israeli society, which has been intensifying over the past year.

My Response: I think so too. This war can be called a punishment from above for our rift in society.

Should We Be Watching War Footage?

552.03Question: Today people spend a lot of time watching war footage. So a person even without being in the hot spots lives all this daily.

Some experts say this has a strong effect on the human psyche. Others argue this is how one learns to see the truth and thereby can prevent his aggression toward others. What would you recommend?

Should we be watching all this?

Answer: I would not advise watching it because, as a rule, it is presented with loose commentary.

I would advise people to study the nature of man and the causes of wars. Then they would gradually become aware of their damage and how that harm can be corrected concerning others.

Question: Do you think watching all these horrors affects our psyche?

Answer: Of course it does.

Question: In a good way or the opposite? Some believe if one has a strong impression of negative actions, he will never repeat them.

Answer: No, it does not work. We see the world is not getting better.

Surrender to Holiness

631.1Question: In Baal HaSulam’s “You Who Love the Lord, Hate Evil,” it is written that through the hatred for the will to receive one corrects it and surrenders under the Kedusha [holiness]. What does it mean?

Answer: It means that the will to receive will no longer want to manifest itself because it understands that in this way a person leads everyone to destruction.

Conversely, if a person hates the will to receive, then by this he surrenders to holiness.

Open Your Heart to Everyone

944Question: We all are trying to unite above our differences. Our goal for the connections between us is to reveal the force of the Creator, love, and eternity. How can we convey all this to the whole world, to the people of Israel?

Answer: You must try to connect through your hearts, and then what is in your heart will flow into the others’ hearts. You will feel it. Just work on it as a group.

Question: What determines the volume of our internal space where everyone can be placed for internal unification?

Answer: It is the size of the heart. And to work effectively with this thought, you need to open your heart to everyone.

Let us all embrace together and ask the Creator to bring us closer in a tighter embrace. That is how we arrive at a quick final correction. Baal HaSulam writes that we are already in the last generation, the generation of Moshiach (Messiah). What should we do? Just wish in your heart for this to come true for everyone.

Hear Your “Body”

509The Zohar says that the Creator hates bodies. It refers specifically to the bodies of the Creator’s workers because they want to be eternal recipients, since they also desire the wealth of the future world (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 108 “If You Leave Me for a Day, I will Leave You for Two Days”).

Question: If the Creator hates the bodies, then what was the need to create them?

Answer: The material body is the desire to receive. If the Creator had not created the body, we would not have anything to work on and be rewarded.

We are talking about desires for one’s own sake that arise in a person who seeks spiritual elevation. But nothing can be revealed in the desire to receive, only in the desire to give, which is called the spiritual body or soul.

Question: If the Creator gives us a reward in advance, will we pay for it later much more?

Answer: No, do not take that into account. You must do what is required of you.

Question: It seems like this article describes a conversation with the body. Is it important to keep track of what my body, i.e., my desire is telling me at every moment?

Answer: Of course, it is important. If you do not hear your body and do not listen to it, but just hear it, you will not be able to advance.

Correct hearing means holding on to the group, to the Creator, and listening to what your body wants to tell you. Then you will gain the strength to move forward independently of it.

We Need to Give Birth to Love between Us

963.5Dear Michael Laitman,
Trouble has brought us together again. We are again confident that the people are united, we will defeat any enemies, we can, we are strong, and we defend our home. I agree with all this, but where is the Creator now, the one you keep talking about? Or is it implied that He is inside this unity of ours?
Ilya

My Response: We can say that we are close to misfortune. It is our enemies who have silenced us relative to each other.

Question: Do you mean that there is still a lot of work to be done?

Answer: Not only that still needs to be done, but we need to do the work! We were forced to forget about some internal quarrels. But we must understand that we must do serious work on a mistake. The mistake is mutual hatred, revealed in us by the Creator who specifically awakens it so that we ask Him to make peace and love between us.

Question: Do we still have to come to this?

Answer: Of course! And come in what way? We have to recognize and feel that there is mutual rejection and hatred between us. We have to rise above it.

This work is constant! It is not something that will pass in a couple of weeks, and that is it. This hatred will not go away. We have reached a level of connection between us, which is called mutual hatred. We have to suppress it from above with our love for each other. It is through hatred that we can reach love.

Question: You just said a very interesting thing. Is this a level of hatred? This level is already very high. Should love have the same level?

Answer: It should be even more, above the hatred.

This love is not ready, and it is not there so that you can take and replace one with another. It must be born out of ourselves! Precisely, in such serious labor pains. I think it is not easy, this work is for many years to come.

Question: Now everyone is thinking and talking, of course, about victory. Tell me, please, what do you call victory?

Answer: By victory, I mean the victory of a person over oneself. When one realizes that to win, he must defeat himself because besides him there is only the Creator. Here, nothing can be otherwise.

The only thing we need is to truly understand that we have always behaved incorrectly. Now is the time to understand, realize, and admit who is to blame.

It is us. By hating each other, we have led ourselves and the country to the fact that it cannot exist in this way. We must give a clear answer to this and proceed with what we must do to make this country Jewish and viable.

Catch Up with the Creator

186Question: It is said that if the Torah distances one from love for the Creator, it is called the elixir of death. The Creator often alienates us from Himself because of our egoism. In what case does the Torah bring us closer to the Creator, and in what does it become the elixir of death?

Answer: The Psalms give an example of a deer that is running away from a person constantly looks back to see whether he manages to increase the distance or decrease. It is like this with the Creator.

Even when the Creator moves away and demonstrates it to us, He does this only to make us run after Him and try to reach Him. Therefore, we must always pursue the thought that the Creator wants us to catch up with Him.
