The Point of Support Is on the Creator

183.01Question: How can one balance the need to explain people’s guilt in what is happening on one hand, and on the other, make sure that they accept it?

Answer: As Baal HaSulam explains at the end of the Introduction to The Book of Zohar, all correction begins from within, from the innermost part of ourselves.

If you find a point of support on the Creator within yourself and from this point you influence yourself and the group, and from this point you reach out to the whole world, you will be able to explain it, be right, and self-confident. There will be no difficulty in doing so. But only if you have that point of reliance on the Creator.

Mutual Guarantee Is the Means for Adhesion with the Creator

231.04How does one analyze and verify their internal structure? It becomes clearer time after time. Does a newborn baby who does not need legs yet not have them? He has them! But why if he doesn’t need them yet? Let them grow in a year! But no…

We obviously do not feel it, but even the parts we do not feel until later are already developing. All of them are in our inner development.

Question: All our actions, such as mutual guarantee, are a means to merge with the Creator. Merging is the reward I want to receive. Do I need to check the desired reward more carefully: what exactly will it give me? Or is it better to leave this clarification for later; when it is needed, everything will manifest?

Answer: “The final action is in the initial thought.” We cannot begin any action unless we prioritize the ultimate goal. It must be at the start; otherwise, the action itself, or the intention, or the thought, will simply be animalistic.

Such a person is called “unbalanced in his consciousness.” If one does not know why he is acting, if he does not have a clear goal, he is called confused, or a child, or insane.

Question: Then I want to understand what kind of adhesion it is I should make an effort to achieve?

Answer: Imagine the ultimate goal to the extent you have clarified it, no matter to what extent. The main thing is that you somehow “grab it by the tail” and say: “There it is! I am working toward it. Now I have to do this and that to ultimately achieve it.”

Jews and the Nations of the World Have Different Tasks

448.4Is there a difference today between Jews and the nations of the world who are awakening to seek spirituality, to spiritual work?

According to what Baal HaSulam writes at the end of the Introduction to The Book of Zohar, first and foremost, we must awaken those who are customarily called “the people of Israel” in this world.

This is not according to their aspiration to adhere to the Creator, not to look for such individuals as we do in global dissemination, but simply by working within the people. This is what we are doing now. And this work, as it turns out, is the most difficult.

The point is that to those who allegedly belong to the people of Israel, those who have “Jew” written in their passport, you must come with a real accusation: that they are inherently guilty of not fulfilling their role in this world despite being Jews. Clearly no one wants to hear this.

As for the nations of the world, you approach them with a different task. You say: “You must help the Jews fulfill the correction that will be revealed to the world through them.” This is what the AHP must do in relation to Galgalta veEynaim. That is, you ask them for help, but you do not accuse them of not making corrections because the vessels of reception cannot carry it out. If they could, they would have received the Torah.

It is said that the Creator tried to give the Torah to each of the 70 nations, but they were unable to accept it. Therefore, there are no claims against them.

And when they already know what the process of correction entails and the reason for the purpose of creation, then you can demand participation and help from them, but only after that! As it is written: The nations of the world will carry Israel on their shoulders and bring them to Jerusalem. And then you will see that indeed the whole world is ready to participate in everything for the sake of correction.

And as for the fact that today we are being accused of being a part that has no purpose, this is because we, those living in Israel, claim that the inner part of the Torah, the wisdom of Kabbalah, meaning the means for attaining the purpose of creation, is unnecessary. That is why the nations of the world treat us this way.

Baal HaSulam writes about this very clearly and plainly. In this way, we ourselves determine the world’s attitude toward us and the measure of suffering or the measure of serene peace in the whole world.

The Gradual Ripening of Souls

284.06The soul of Abraham, like all souls, is a result of the shattering of Adam HaRishon. Within all these souls are various parts, and as they naturally unfold from the beginning of correction to its end, this leads to the emergence of special souls who begin to feel that the world is not as it appears to the rest of the souls.

The feelings of the souls stem from the fact that their discernments have not yet reached a sufficient measure to reveal and feel that although the outer picture of the world seems to contain many separate forces, there exists a deeper picture in which all those forces are governed by a single force.

We are precisely in such a state since in our attitude toward life, we do not perceive it as governed by a single force that influences us with a single intention that wishes to bring us pleasure. We do not understand that the Creator’s attitude toward us is revealed in various forms according to the changes in our own state. Yet He Himself is one, unique, and unified.

The contrast between Terach and Abraham essentially repeats itself among us in the fact that we, like Abraham, want to reveal something different from what the world sees and from what we ourselves were in our previous state, which is called “the previous generation.”

A special readiness in the soul is needed in order to feel the demand to reveal nature, all of reality, as a single system, a single force, a single thought.

This idea can be grasped only by the most “refined” layer of souls that emerge as a result of the shattering of Adam HaRishon. Then, more and more souls can begin to join them. From generation to generation, the desire to receive increases within all souls. The souls of the earlier generations are essentially the same souls that return in later cycles, only with an added desire to receive, with the revelation of “coarser,” more substantial Reshimot.

But since the souls go through suffering in this world precisely because they become coarser, these sufferings prepare them to begin asking questions and to increasingly feel that something is missing, something that would bring order and unify all the forces of reality, to feel that behind all the diversity of visible forces there must be a single program, a single thought.

Talks about the Steps of the Ladder, Part 152

Talks about the Steps of the Ladder, Part 152

Why Does Progress Require First Entering into Evil, and Only From There Drawing to Good?

There are several reasons for this. The will to receive has two qualities. One quality is a pull toward rest, and the second quality is a desire to be filled with pleasure. That is, the best situation for us is to be at rest and to be filled with pleasure. How can both exist together?

To bring the will to receive to want to be filled, we need to create a lack of fulfillment, an emptiness, in it. We must see the darkness within ourselves, examine it, then see what exactly we need and think about how to attain it and what will happen once we become fulfilled. We need to study the entire opposite state while already in the state of darkness, and then, when we receive the opposite state, we will truly enjoy it.

When we hear a beautiful song for the first time, it is difficult to enjoy it fully because it is new to the ear. We might be impressed that it is good. Later, we will want to hear it again, and when we already know all the words and melodies by heart, our enjoyment of the song will increase because the vessel is ready. When we know the song, we enjoy it even a second before hearing it, from the very first note, because the vessels are ready and will soon receive fulfillment.

As in the example of the song, so must preparation be made for every fulfillment. The vessel must be pre-adapted to its fulfillment to such an extent that even before receiving fulfillment, it can already feel it. The vessel must be developed so much that the pleasure is possible even before the fulfillment actually arrives, and as a result, we indeed enjoy it.

There must be a sense of lack, a sense of the greatness of the giver, the greatness of the fulfillment itself, and so on. There are many conditions, the main one being to know how to enjoy. This is the wisdom of Kabbalah. It is quite complicated to know how to receive.

When Correction Comes from Above

261Kabbalists are not planning a nationwide return to religion so everyone stands in line to put on tefillin. None of us even think in this direction. Especially regarding the nations of the world. Even if they become corrected, will they also have to fulfill all these commandments? Of course not!

Baal HaSulam writes that a person can even remain in his religion, as it has nothing to do with what we do. All these things are carried out only spiritually anyway: in relation, intention, and one’s inner connection with the Creator.

It may not be easy to explain this, but it depends on the measure of internal, personal suffering and the degree of general, collective suffering. If we actually reach a state where we have to take it upon ourselves, this will serve as our internal preparation, and people will hear this and understand we have nowhere else to look for help.

This is called a cry to the Creator. This is a prayer, raising MAN—all this is, in fact, the same thing. You have no choice, you must. This is how a person who is in pain, who has a seriously ill loved one—his inner concern, his fear, his anxiety is about it. This is surely revealed in him. These things, in general, correct his state, and we see this is how it is.

What does it mean, they correct it? Of course, they do not correct anything, but they lead to correction coming from above.

Receive for the Sake of the Creator

276.01Question: You said it is possible to test how much you can use the desire to receive for the sake of bestowal. How can I draw this line to use one part of the desire for bestowal and not the other?

Answer: This can only be done based on our work, from our efforts.

Question: How can I use part of the joy for the sake of my friends, for the sake of the Creator, but not for myself?

Answer: I see that I can work with such pleasures that I receive in order to bring joy to my friends. That is clear to me.

Therefore when the Creator demands certain actions from me, I can do it: I can receive for His sake.

Why Is It Written That We Must Pray in a Clear Language?

It means that the scrutinies we make in our desire must be clear and understandable to us. Of course, it is not because the Creator does not understand the prayer, as if He were hard of hearing or does not understand Hebrew, and so we need to say the prayer word by word, letter by letter, with special pronunciation.

“Clear language” means that our desire must be clarified to such an extent that it will truly be considered a prayer. We do not need to verify this against the Creator, but against ourselves. This is because every degree that we fully scrutinize immediately transforms into a higher degree. We will remain on a certain degree as long as we have not completely clarified it, as long as we do not yet deeply recognize our own desire.
