Spiritual Development

laitman_222_0Question: Why is it necessary to attainment the spiritual world from the corporeal world?

Answer: Because this is the only way you can rise above yourself and feel your gradual development. Only through gradual attainment are we able to grow new properties and facets within ourselves.

You can’t imagine how much work you are doing in the meantime. For example, you’ve been studying the wisdom of Kabbalah for two or three years. You say to yourself: “Why is it taking so long? All of this material could have been explained in a few months.” But the fact is, you are developing certain inner properties that you are completely unaware of now.

This is similar to the development of a small child. What does a child understand? In the first years of his life, he has no idea what’s happening. He simply exists! And how much he is developing all kinds of properties and how he perceives them—this is incomprehensible to him.

Similarly, when studying Kabbalah, we don’t understand what properties, new functions, and new internal blocks of perception and understanding are developing in us. Later, they all become revealed at once. As, for example, a boy in adolescence suddenly becomes a small man; the entire ripening period suddenly breaks through and reveals itself like a flower.

It’s the same with us, only much brighter. Childhood suddenly ends and real life begins in comprehension and sensations, and everything that has accumulated is revealed in a genuine, practical form.

What Are The Sefirot?

laitman_608_02Question from Facebook: What are the Sefirot?

Answer: A Sefira is something that shines . It is all very simple. Our ego, wanting to swallow everything into it, is an absolute black body that cannot illuminate. But, if it closes itself and begins to work in the opposite direction, with the intention in order to bestow, it begins to reflect the light and everything that comes to it.

A black body, for example, which swallows the light, doesn’t reflect the rays of light, so we cannot see the body itself either. But if it shines and doesn’t swallow the rays of light, but rather reflects them, everyone can see it.

A Sefira is the corrected ego to a certain degree, in a certain way. Therefore , it shines and is called Sefirot (which comes from the Hebrew word “sapphire”)—luminous.

We are arranged such that there are ten parts in us, and we have to make them shine to the fullest. This state is called “a person’s complete end of correction”; it is when he becomes a man of the Light.

Question: Is that what is meant in the Torah when it says that Moses shined?

Answer: Yes. Rays of light came from his head. But unfortunately, in translation it sounds like “horns” because “ray” and “horn” are two meanings of the same word.

Sacrifice For The Sake Of The Union With The Creator

laitman_221The Torah, Deuteronomy 17:1: You shall not sacrifice to the Lord, your God, an ox or a sheep that has in it a blemish or any bad thing, for that is an abomination to the Lord, your God.

A person must become aware of and analyze his egoistic desires to the extent that after the various procedures he performs on himself, he corrects only the purest of them, and becomes equivalent to the Creator. This means sacrificing them, i.e., getting closer to the Creator on the basis of these desires.

Blemish means that there are remnants of egoism in the desires, the so-called “serpent.”

Becoming similar to the Creator is possible only with the help of the Upper Light, which extracts this snake from us, which means that it corrects desires from reception to bestowal.

New Life 826 – What Does The Kippah Symbolize?

New Life 826 – What Does The Kippah Symbolize?
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz

There is a deep internal meaning behind all the Jewish symbols that we don’t know today.

The kippah symbolizes our recognition that there is someone above us and the acceptance of the burden of the kingdom of Heaven, the upper domination. A head cover is the major symbol in Jewish clothing; it is the covering of our head, of our thoughts. We are under the domination of the Creator, there is none else besides Him, who controls every thought we have and every desire.

Four Races And Four Phases Of Light

laitman_629_1Question: Do the four races match the four letters of the name HaVaYaH and the four phases of the Ohr Yashar (Direct Light)?

Answer: Yes, the four races are divided into the four phases of Direct Light, but this doesn’t mean anything because we must unite in order to carry out the correction.

There cannot be a Partzuf, meaning, a normal spiritual system in which the Creator is revealed, if a connection doesn’t exist between everyone. So, no one can be removed from it: white, black, yellow, or red.

Returning To One Language Of The Heart

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe live in a special time when the entire world is going through very big and rapid changes. What used to happen in a decade some fifty or a hundred years ago now happens in a year. Each person feels as if caught in a cycle of constantly changing and moving events.

Today here are almost no people in the world who would not be affected by the ongoing changes. They have reached even the most remote areas and small villages. As Kabbalists explain, this is a sign that the world is approaching the general correction.

This is why we organize international Kabbalah conventions that symbolize the entire world wishing to unite. Thousands of people of various nationalities and cultures come from all over the world in order to connect together.

The only remaining obstacle is language. If we do not speak the same language, it is difficult to communicate because we are still in Babylon. The ancient Babylonians started with one language, then began to speak different languages, and as a result, ceased to understand each other. We, accordingly, have to come from many languages to one.

It is when I sit with unfamiliar people with different mentality, the shattering, which occurred in the ancient Babylon and is being revealed only today, manifests even more clearly. This will further push us to unite. After all, we have to return to Babylon so that the entire world becomes one village.

At the convention, we feel as if the former Babylonians gathered from all over the world in order to unite back into one people, one humanity. Now we need to do the very same work that Abraham wanted to do in ancient Babylon. He did not succeed back then because the evil still had to be revealed.

But three and a half thousand years have passed since, and during this time the evil has gradually become revealed more and more. As a result, it reached such a scale that the whole world began to realize what slough of despond it finds itself in. Therefore, now it is ready to begin to unite.

What Is Happiness?

Laitman_715Question: What is happiness?

Answer: Happiness is a state in which the Upper Light descends upon a person and fills him with the sensation of an eternal perfect existence.

Happiness (“Mazal” in Hebrew) means luck, which stems from the root of “nozel – drip.” When the Upper Light descends on a person, then the Upper Light flows, then, it fills him with attainment, with knowledge, and the sensation of absolutely clear, perfect, and eternal existence. This is happiness.

Question: Can such a state come without any effort on a person’s part? After all, there are people who are lucky in life.

Answer: In our limited material existence, of course. It may be that a person feels that everything is fine and that he doesn’t need anything else. He simply lives an empty life. Why not? Walk into a hut in some remote village, build yourself a cozy den there, and be happy if you can.

However, the fact is that the ego is constantly developing. It needs new fillings all the time. Otherwise, a person will not feel satisfied.

How do we make the sensations that come to our ego fill it without any problems? Only if his desire is focused on bestowal, outside of himself, will he not feel that he is empty all the time. Happiness is creating such senses that are external to us, and then we will be happy.

Question: Most people think that we need harmony, a balance of attributes, in order to attain happiness. Which attributes are we talking about?

Answer: A person can live in harmony with the world around him if the person and the world become one general collective. This can happen only if a person feels the world as himself and cares for it just as he cares about himself.
