Question: What does it mean to believe that all states come from the Creator, and how do we come to such faith?

Answer: How do we come to the belief that all states come from the Creator? It is only in the gradual realization that there is none else besides Him.

This happens under the influence of the upper light on us. After all, besides the fact that this light controls everything—inanimate, vegetative, animate nature, and humans—it also wants the element it controls, meaning a person, to feel it.

This is already a new, very special attitude of the Creator toward man. That is, the Creator begins to draw him toward Himself, which arouses in him a sense of Himself. Such attraction can be two-sided.

On one hand the Creator draws a person to Himself; on the other hand He begins to arouse in him all sorts of thoughts, disturbances, and interferences. It is like we are hearing a normal speech broadcast while experiencing some interference on the line. The Creator does the same. He is a master at these things, and we need to work with that.

As a rule the Creator awakens a connection with us and at the same time something negative, that is, all kinds of confusion. Let us say you are looking at me now, listening, trying to grasp my words, and at the same time you are imagining your pillow, which you are falling on. But these disruptions are necessary because that is how you strengthen the connection.

What to do? Ask the Creator. Do not try to cheer yourself up: “Now I am going to do something, drink a cup of coffee, somehow warm up, make myself angry!”. There is no need to wake up your donkey; you need to ask the Creator, “The fact that You give me thoughts about You—thank You! The fact that You give me the desire to sleep instead of listening to the lesson—thank You! And I also want to thank You for  awakening me now and making me even more directed to You.” This is the very best!

You have all the conditions for you to start working on feedback. That is how it is done—very simply.
That is, it is preferable not to make any of your own efforts. There should be only one effort—to turn to the Creator in all situations in life until it becomes clear that there is none else besides Him, that only He is before you.

And your own efforts? There are no efforts. Who are you to perform any spiritual actions, to make any decisions? There can be nothing like that in a person—only an appeal to the Creator!

That is why, it is said: “God grant that you pray from morning to evening.” I prayed, that is, I turned to the Creator, I was in an internal dialogue with Him all the time.

A person receives a complete need and desire for the Creator to help him since he sees that otherwise he is lost; not only is he not progressing in the work, he even sees that he regresses. That is, he lacks the strength (Baal HaSulam, Shamati, 1, “There Is None Else Beside Him“).

When I begin to understand that the whole picture of the world comes from the Creator, and that He gave me only a tiny micro-desire to reveal Him, I realize that I am unable to act. That is, the small desire itself is me, but I cannot control my thoughts or strength with this desire and thus explore it.

Therefore to properly direct a person to the Creator, a person keeps losing Him. Although he finds the Creator as the source of his worldview, in the end, the Creator is concealed. Attempts fail, and the person seemingly falls.

Here, the group that can help me is especially important. Since I am in a state of connection with my own kind, I can rely on them. I fell, they rose, one of them fell, I pull him along, and so on. Everyone pulls a friend out of the river of selfishness, which takes him somewhere to the side.

That is why it is said, “Those who trust in the Creator renew their strength.” That is, those who see that there is nothing else in the world besides the Creator, and that they can only grasp the Creator through the group, otherwise He will not be revealed, they renew their strength at every moment. It turns out that the fall itself, especially if it occurs in a group, is the reason for the rise.

If it is not me, then it is my friend; if it is not my friend, then it is me. In this way, we can constantly rise.
If a person is alone and in descent, this state can last for many months, until the Creator sends him the force of ascension. We know this for ourselves. This condition sometimes stretches for several weeks, and I cannot do anything about it; I cannot pull myself out of this swamp.

That is how I can determine if I am in the right group. If I am in the right environment, I should not feel like falling because our correct interactions in the group always revive us.

Question: Is it normal to feel pride in studying Kabbalah?

Answer: Pride is inherent in everyone. Each of us, in a sense, is proud, because each of us is unique.

Initially there was one common vessel (Kli) that shattered into billions of fragments, and each of us is an individual piece of it. This means that each person is unique in their attributes. There is no one else like them, and they cannot be replaced.

This fragment, this spark, is the foundation of your soul. Everything else you acquire (whether by melting within others or by bringing others closer to yourself) is merely an addition to this foundation, which consists of a single point. But this point is your egoism, your self-love, your sense of importance and greatness. And it is necessary!

Kabbalah is the science of correctly realizing the desire to receive. Therefore under no circumstances should you erase, diminish, or destroy it. You must only learn to use it properly.

It is said that “the pride of a person will be exalted on the path to the Creator.” If I am engaged in spiritual work, I should take pride in it, rise above myself, and feel my uniqueness. But this pride must be positive, not in opposition to others, but as a means to help them, not from a place of superiority, but by supporting them from below.

Thus everything must be guided by love, like that of a mother for her young child. She considers the child as more important than herself. She does not take pride in being able to do what the child cannot; she does not feel that way. On the contrary she is entirely devoted to him or her. This is how we should take pride in the work the Creator has given us.

So there is no need to fight pride. Instead, all of the feelings inherent in egoism should be mirrored in altruism. Then everything will turn out beautifully. You will feel pride—pride in the fact that you have such a magnificent Creator. You will sense this through your resemblance to Him.

And no one will perceive this as arrogance. On the contrary you will appear as a very humble person to everyone. After all, what would there be to boast about? Ultimately, everything is done by the Creator. You have simply revealed it, while others have not—yet. That is the only difference.

Question: Why is Hanukkah considered a children’s holiday?

Answer: Hanukkah is indeed considered a children’s holiday, as is Purim, which is even more of a children’s holiday.

During Hanukkah, children light candles, eat donuts, and sing songs. Each one can have their own menorah. The holiday is considered a children’s holiday because it symbolizes the beginning of a person’s ascent on spiritual steps.

Our entire spiritual work is like play, akin to that of a child, because we are constantly working on correcting ourselves. The forward movement and ascent from one step to another resemble the growth of a child.

Purim is an even greater holiday when we ascend very high spiritual levels toward complete correction. These are unimaginable steps that have never realized in our world!

We lived at the “Hanukkah” level 2,000 years ago during the time of the Maccabees, and even earlier for nearly a 1,000 years from entering the land of Israel until losing it. After leaving Egypt, we began to attain the attributes of Hanukkah during the 40 years of wandering in the desert.

As for the attribute of Purim, we attempted to reach it during the period of the First Temple, but quickly fell from this level.

Purim is a very high holiday yet to come! We must not only return to it but create it, for it does not yet exist in us, we must bring it into being. This is why it is considered even more childlike.

During Purim, children and adults dress in costumes, and adults drink wine, which is encouraged and considered a significant commandment. Purim represents the forgiveness of all sins because one achieves the fulfillment of the ultimate commandment: love.

If Hanukkah represents good mutual connection between us, then Purim symbolizes love, the attainment of the complete correction of all souls.

We should see ourselves as children who are constantly growing. A person who is growing is called a child.

How Should We Relate to Feelings?

It is written that the purpose of creation is “to do good to His creations.” It means that the goal is to experience pleasures, to feel goodness and benefit. Our path involves correcting the vessels of sensation, which are designed for enjoyment. However, until we complete our work and reach the end of correction, we must constantly monitor our feelings to avoid being misled.

As long as we lack a spiritual screen (Masach), following our sensations can lead to excessive use of the desire to enjoy for oneself. Therefore, we must constantly supervise ourselves to make sure that we use the desire to enjoy correctly; otherwise, we cannot escape the vessels of reception.

We cannot determine the validity of something solely based on good or bad feelings. For example, according to an analogy of Baal HaSulam, a person with a boil might enjoy scratching it, but the process ultimately leads to infection and death.

Until all corrections are completed—both in this world and on spiritual levels—we must not, even for a moment, abandon the guidance of reason and its connection to the purpose of creation: “What is happening to me now? What am I doing?”

The sole exception is acting with a clear intention to break free from all definitions and order, to “lose oneself” as in the Purim celebration. Even then, this must be done deliberately, as otherwise it holds no benefit. One cannot completely forgo supervision.
