The Israeli Nation In The Modern World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What rules the Israeli nation today? What state is it in?

Answer: Now concealment rules the Israeli nation. There are no false philosophical perceptions, but there is no truth as in the wisdom of Kabbalah; there is nothing but the animal mind and feeling to fill themselves somehow without any spiritual element or at least its human parallel.

I am not saying that things are any different in the world, but the values there are also different. We measure the Israeli nation in comparison to the times when it was in the height of spiritually, whereas today it is on the lowest corporeal level. There is no spirituality and no yearning for it; everyone is confused, and at the same time they are sure that they are not confused, that everything is clear.

It is perfectly clear to people that this whole world is material and they don’t need anything more than economic prosperity and success in this ordinary life. There is no connection, no relationship, no contact with the nation’s spiritual role and its duty towards the world. People are not aware of these things, and they don’t know about them. The nation is in a state of unconsciousness, like a patient lying unconscious in bed while a group of doctors discuss how they should treat him.

I am speaking about the Israeli nation living in the land of Israel. It is because the assimilation in the outside world has reached such a state that it has lost the external form of the nation. In fact we cannot call these people “Jewish” anymore. It may be that some of them go to the synagogue in order to say Kadish on Yom Kippur or give charity, but the young ones have cut off this chain. There is no more “Israeli nation” outside the state of Israel.

On the contrary, the Israelis and the Jews in the diaspora are separated. It is enough to look at the American Jews who are dispersed both physically and morally; they don’t worry about Israel, only about themselves. What’s more, they want to show that they have no interest in the state of Israel, that they are “just like everyone else in America,” dedicated only to the country they live in. Once they were proud of their roots, but this has disappeared.

They not only show the breach with their own people, but even more than that, they show disrespect towards Israel. Some prefer that Israel didn’t exist at all. It isn’t by chance that Obama has so many Jewish aides. The Jewish vote for the presidential elections is also very meaningful. Under such conditions, the term the “Israeli nation” becomes very theoretical and actually doesn’t exist at all.

This means that the name the “Israeli nation” refers to those who experience the shattering, the general global destruction, and who begin to emerge from different places in the world to connect to a group that is aimed at the CreatorYasharEl.” This is called the “Israeli nation.” In other words, it is our whole organization with all of its participants who have come together from all over this modern, human Babylon.

It is a new situation and it shouldn’t be underestimated; today we must at least worry about the Jews who live in the land of Israel since they share the same corporeal fate. It isn’t by chance that they found themselves in one place since it is also organized by Providence. We have to treat them as those who carry the Reshimot (spiritual genes) from the shattering, from the previous state. During the time of the Temple they were in the spiritual height and have already fulfilled their potential. This is why we have to evoke them since we are obligated to awaken them as Baal HaSulam says in the articles “Matan Torah” (The Giving of the Torah) and “The Arvut” (Mutual Guarantee).

So there is an “Israeli nation” in the spiritual sense according to the intention of “Yashar – El” (straight to the Creator), which are those who join our global group, and there is the “Israeli nation” in the general accepted meaning, who are Jews from birth, who have Reshimot from the previous spiritual states, and who have better chances of awakening to correction than members of other nations.

Aiming Into The Future

Dr. Michael LaitmanAnimals have an instinctive connection with nature, and their perception of it occurs through the channels of their inner connection with nature. These channels are not available to man, are not understood, and not discovered by him.

When, in their development, people began to rise gradually from the animate to human level, they lost the channels of inner, natural, animal connection with nature, but the gradual loss of this information forced them to develop other connections not just to compensate for the past sensations, but to acquire new, more qualitative knowledge.

They were not driven by hunger. In reality, their development advanced to a deeper relationship with nature that gave them enough food, and they had much more free time to become tied with nature not through animal instinct, but on a deeper level.

Even those weapons that they invented, they invented them precisely to delve more deeply into nature. For example, they invented the bow and arrow. What for? To strike animals better, but what they used in the past was sufficient. The fact is that for such a device as the bow and arrow when a man is aiming and shooting, the main thing is not to aim and shoot, but, when he aims, he directs himself into the future, to the feeling of when he is sure that he hits the target.

That is why he doesn’t need to even shoot. He has worked himself into such a state that he has united with the target and, thus increased his sensitivity of nature so that the bow becomes a means for refining, for making himself sensitive in order to feel the future, whether or not he hits the target.

He reaches a state where he knows exactly that he will hit the target. That is, he achieves a connection with the target; he connects with the future state. He uses the bow to practice to attain the future in the present even without taking action. He doesn’t need to shoot.

The same thing happens in all other activities. Eastern martial arts, ritual dances, and wrestling were based on the principle of not touching the enemy, but controlling his future. You connect with the future. That is, the enemy is in front of you as a representation of your evil, and you practice your evil on him, feeling that you are with him, fighting your evil as if it were the enemy, and he does just the same.

These activities were regarded as noble, high, divine and sacred because through them, human development went in the opposite direction, to his struggle with his “I,” his ego, to ascend above himself. That is what martial arts, the bow and arrow, dances, ancient rituals gave him. This encouraged a person to work on himself and, most importantly, to rise to the future to experience it through earthly actions.

In reality, actions don’t matter. What matters is concentration, orientation toward the future. The same thing is above space and above time. The same practice is done to overcome distances and to feel motion, which is not necessary, but passes from movements like in dances, like in various ritual movements. All this passes into the inner action, to outplay oneself, one’s egoism, to connect with others, to see the enemy like one’s “I” that is against you.

Thus, people rose from the animate level and developed further. That is, it was not what we believe today that his development was to obtain more food and better settle. This is what our materialism tells us, but human development was directed toward the degree of “Human.” That is why we find evidence of the past everywhere: signs and monuments that we cannot solve because they were directed by the inner, spiritual ties with nature.

To Rise To A New Degree Means To Become It

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does a person obtain when he attains spirituality?

Answer: He obtains qualitatively new knowledge because now his revelation is part of him. In our world, I discover these or those external phenomena. For example, if I am a chemist, I observe, examine, and describe a chemical process.

In the science of Kabbalah, I reveal the upper world and am myself in the picture that opens to me. I am identical to my discovery; I have the same qualities that are there in the reality that I discover. Of course, at the same time, I see all the stages that I have passed, both spiritual and material. They remain in me, and I can descend to any of them to establish contact with others.

In general however, spiritual development is a precise attainment. I don’t just get to know or understand something. Knowing and attaining are not the same thing. Attainment means that I turn into the state that I have reached, not just becoming acquainted with a new degree, but become it.

A Blaze Erupts From The Sparks

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The Kabbalists, without difference, declare the principle of “love the other as yourself” as the most important thing. They all join in this. So where does the division in the Jewish state come from?

Answer: Because of the exile, because of the separation from the spiritual force, from the consciousness of spirituality, from the spiritual force. The people simply forgot the main thing, and this was done on purpose: as if part of the pipeline through which he used to receive spiritual nourishment was cut from him.

A person simply doesn’t feel that another, complete world exists, and that there are forces that direct him. He was left only with those channels that direct him in a corporeal way, and now he only exists in this world, seeing that the situation with others is identical to his. And all the rest of the threads that connect are disabled. From all of the systems, there remains only the operating system of the lower level of this world, which from a spiritual view is not considered as existing. Actually, it simply it not there.

And now we need to unite our spiritual sparks, our points in the heart that don’t belong to this world, in order to create from them a new spiritual reality. This is what we have been entrusted with. It isn’t just to get close to each other, like sheep in a herd. That wouldn’t give us anything. We are speaking here only about the sparks that we need to raise and unite.

So you need to think and worry only about the longing of the friends for the Creator, about sparks that are in each one of them. When we connect them together into one whole, then we will have enough force in order to reveal the Creator. That is what all our work is about.

You Drew A Winning Ticket Out Of Thousands

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf the spiritual path were felt as pleasant and beneficial to our nature, our egoism, who would reject it? The entire world would run to us to study and sit at the desk. Everyone would come if he felt joy and sweetness in this.

No one would refuse such a tempting opportunity to reveal the future before him and obtain all the knowledge. Our ego would have pushed us forward, pulled us, not giving us a moment of rest. Envy, lust, and ambition would be burning in a person, promising him all sorts of fulfillment in this world and the upper world, the Garden of Eden. All this would have inspired and attracted him more and more.

Of course, this is not so, and it is difficult for us to understand and impossible to agree that all of reality, except ourselves, is opposite of what we see. It is full of contentment and pleasure, the revelation of the upper force. All this is revealed to the extent a person acquires the property of bestowal.

It is impossible to achieve spiritual fulfillment, the degree of the Creator, in any other way. So, true management is hidden behind its opposite form, and we are not able to appreciate it, to understand and taste what the intention to bestow means. We do not have the tools to enjoy bestowal.

Please give to anyone! However, you will not feel any pleasure from it because your desires are opposite. And only one in whom the spark was lit in the darkness of egoism, forcing him to seek bestowal, and one who cares about that spark, trying to increase it through studies and the environment—advances. Indeed, there are few chosen ones, of all the thousands.

Three Pillars Upon Which The World Stands

Dr. Michael LaitmanRabash; “Abraham Begot Isaac”: In the Mishna it says, “There are three things the world stands on, the Torah, labor and charity.” Abraham is called “a man of charity,” who devotes his power to do kindness towards people, Isaac is called “the pillar of labor,” who devotes his soul upon the altar. And Jacob is called “the pillar of the Torah,” as it says “give the truth to Jacob,” and the Torah is called the Torah of truth. And so every person should reach these three pillars. First these three pillars were revealed one after the other by our Holy forefathers, as each one revealed one pillar. And after the three pillars were revealed, it is also in our power to follow the same path our forefathers paved for us, and this is why we are called “The Chosen People,” because we have a merit that we have inherited from our forefathers, to observe the three pillars, by which the world can exist, which means that by them the world will exist and reach the goal for which it was created.

The Light created the desire, the Light is total bestowal, and the desire is total receiving, but by the Light, the desire has to change to “to receive in order to bestow.” This means that the Light and the desire have to connect in a special way called “above reason” or “the middle line.”

This combination is done by a person’s choice. Thanks to the fact that a person chooses the right combination each time, he includes it inside him. A “human being” is the system that is made of two parts: a Light and a vessel, a desire to bestow and a desire to receive, and by the fact that a person who is between them can choose and determine the right relation between them, he creates a greater combination between the Light and the vessel inside him.

A person’s work is to check himself and to learn from the Light. In order to do that, he already has to be incorporated of “three lines”: of the Light and the vessel and of the right attitude between them, only then will he be able to know what the Light brings him. This is called Abraham’s work, the first spiritual revelation in our work.

Then we begin to work on the vessel in the left line, in order to understand what our matter is. It is possible to see the gap within the matter only if you have the Light and you know how to work correctly with the vessel. This means that the left line itself is also made of three lines in order to learn about the desire correctly—this is called Isaac’s work.

Then there is the work in the middle line: a combination of the left line and the right line into one line, in order to know exactly what we need to do with these two forces. This is called working in the middle line, Jacob’s work, which is in the state of smallness in the meantime, in the root phase, phase one, and phase two. Then, after the attainment of the state of greatness on the third and fourth levels, this work is already called Israel. These are the phases of a person’s spiritual growth.

A person who advances this way has what we call “patriarchal rights,” which means that he receives the method and fulfills it, and he belongs to the chosen people, since he works according to the “three lines,” understanding that he is the “middle line” that connects the first two lines.

The middle line is called a human being and it is also called the Creator, Zeir Anpin, the middle pillar. On the whole, the middle line is the extent to which a person adheres to the Creator.

It is impossible to work in Holiness, since Holiness is called bestowal. Bestowal is possible only in the right combination between the two lines: the right line and the left line into the middle line.

Therefore it says that the world stands on “three pillars: on the Torah, on labor, and on charity” if we look at the process of the correction of the world on our part, from the bottom up. The Torah is the middle line, Jacob, the labor is the left line, Isaac, and charity is Abraham, the right line.

Know The World You Live In

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When does a person begin to see the upper “roots” of the “branches” that are in this world?

Answer: First we have to say that by attaining the “roots,” a person doesn’t detach from the “branches.” His view simply begins to expand in waves, from the point of this world in increasingly growing circles. To the extent of the expansion, a person connects more strongly to what is happening in the roots, and understands the phenomena of this world better. In his ascent from the bottom up, he first understands what is happening to him here, and then in a more abstract way he understands the upper.

On the other hand, the attainment is different from the understanding: first a person attains the upper phenomenon, and then in it he understands its parallel in this world.

Baal HaSulam speaks about it in “The Essence of the Wisdom of Kabbalah“: The lower is studied from the Higher. Thus, one must first attain the Upper Roots, the way they are in spirituality, above any imagination, but with pure attainment. And once he has thoroughly attained the Upper Roots with his own mind, he may examine the tangible branches in this world and know how each branch relates to its root in the Upper World, in all its orders, in quantity and quality. And a person also sees how all the branches are connected.

On the whole, the attainment and the understanding influence one another. At the same time, the connection between the “branches” and the “roots” are very important, and it isn’t by chance that great Kabbalists devoted their time to study this world. It helped them in studying the upper world. They were scholars, “encyclopedists.” Rav Kook read books in the library thoroughly and Baal HaSulam learned wave theory, etc.

It isn’t by chance that we are in a material, corporeal world and it is from here that we ascend the spiritual levels. Although the information about this world, which scientists found and expressed, didn’t serve in attaining spirituality, they still helped a person connect all the parts of the general picture into one.

But today we are “standing firmly on the ground,” and we, on the contrary, only have to “push our head above the clouds”…

Developing By The Method Of Beating

Dr. Michael LaitmanIt says “there is not a blade of grass below that doesn’t have an angel Above beating it and telling it to grow,” which means that a force from the upper world that matches the grass in the lower world, beats it and forces it to grow according to its role. These blows are felt in the feelings and in the mind, but first of all in our feelings, since we are a vessel of feeling, a desire to receive, which begins to move as a result of the blows.

A blow is felt by the desire when it suddenly discovers that the old images it had are incorrect. The function of the blow is to make a person feel things more deeply. Just like a hammer hits a nail driving it more deeply into the wood, so does the blow drive us more deeply into the matter of the desire. Then we begin to feel it in a new way and we begin to understand it more deeply.

I am confused because of the blow, and I lose control. But in fact, that’s the way it should be: The more a person advances, the greater are the blows that hit him, he is constantly confused and discovers something new, and thus over and over again. You will soon feel how this mechanism is constantly ticking inside, regularly. These small blows, time after time, make us dive more deeply into a feeling of confusion, and thus help us understand and feel things more.

But in order to truly feel something new, we have to go through many such reincarnations. The amount of confusion is always greater than the amount of feelings, and only after great turmoil and many confusions is there a new feeling. Afterward there is another series of confusions and small revelations and then a new feeling comes along.

To sum up, these blows are beneficial, since the “angels,” which are the forces in charge of our development are giving them out.

2013: An Excellent Year

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do you see the year 2013 for the world group and for all of humanity?

Answer: I see 2013 as an excellent year.

All the media is sharpening our focus now on the fact that this year will not be easy: the lack of harvests, an overall rise in prices, general layoffs, climate problems, with more and more, and so on. That is, nature and society will present us with unpleasant surprises. This is something that concerns all of humanity.

With respect to our advancement, I think it will be a great year. Of course, not because of this suffering, but because we will try to reduce the suffering for humanity and show people how to use it properly, to rise above it.

That is, there is a force that can be negative and can be positive.

If you look at it directly, so to speak, head-on, this force is negative. It pushes you, puts pressure, and causes problems with the weather, harvest, money, work, war, with everything. If you look at it not at the egoistic level, but rise to the level from where it descends, to the level of the Creator, then everything is fine. He meets you there and says, “Finally! I sent you so many various blows that you have ascended to me in the end, but you were not in a hurry. However, finally, you have ascended!” That is why we need to understand why we are given the so-called suffering. They are “so-called” because we look right at them, but they cannot be perceived directly. So, the year 2013 will be the year of spiritual progress for those who will be rising. For those who will not rise, it will be the year of physical, moral, and material regression.
