The Perception of Spirituality Is Through Breaking Egoism

109Question: You talk about a global system all the time. But a person subconsciously understands that in a global system everything should be good in the family and in everything else.

It turns out that if he is in a different sensation, he cares not about himself, but about those people who are around him, and receives great pleasure from that. Is this true or not?

Answer: Are you justifying egoism? Of course, it is very pleasant to enjoy egoistically and you don’t have to break yourself for it.

The whole problem is that it is not really possible. Disappointment comes, emptiness, states come that are impossible to remain in. The Creator deliberately ruins our lives.

Question: So the sensation of spirituality always comes through breaking?

Answer: Absolutely! How else?! After all, you have to reveal completely different sensory organs in yourself, those in which you will enjoy bestowing, and not receiving.

The whole world is created in order to bring humanity to correction. Therefore, if necessary, difficulties are created.

And if a person creates difficulties for himself, then there is no need to impose them on him. That is, if he himself is looking for ways to correct himself, and tries to identify his egoism in order to turn it into its opposite, then there is no need to beat him, prick him, or create any obstacles for him.

Should We Respond to Insults?

629.3Question: How should we work with insults? Children do not help their parents; they have practically abandoned them. Someone truly betrayed someone else, someone sold out a friend, and so on. How should we work with these offenses?

Answer: I think we need to reach a level of development at which we will understand that all the people around us are puppets controlled by the Creator so that we can properly correct ourselves in relation to these people, justify them, and wish them well.

Question: Is that possible?

Answer: Generally, yes. Not always and not immediately, but still…

Question: It is a long process, but that is the direction we should go in?

Answer: Yes! Otherwise, you are slandering the Creator. And that is a completely different matter. There the calculation is entirely different—it is a matter of how you perceive the universe: whether it exists on its own, or whether you govern it. If everything comes from above, then we have no other choice but to make ourselves absolutely submissive, agreeable, and capable of changing to resemble this upper force.

Comment: That is beautiful. I would cautiously suggest that our whole world is a world of sinners. We all exist in a state of hatred and constant offense.

My Response: Like little children in a sandbox.

Comment: And we respond, and respond; we keep responding. Look at all the diplomatic corps, how they clash: “You expelled my diplomats…”

My Response: Stop joking! Just stop. This is all…

Question: Then why are we being joked with like this?

Answer: So that we eventually become truly disappointed. Not in how the Creator made us this way, but in how foolish we were not to realize why He made us this way. And the answer is right in front of a person, but he does not want to see it. But all this is so that it accumulates, breaks through, bursts out, and explodes.

Question: If people begin to follow this direction little by little, what will our world become?

Answer: Our world will transform from today’s madhouse into a world where people are engaged in self-research, self-healing, and self-building.

Question: And through that, do they, as it were, bring the Creator into this world?

Answer: Yes, to the extent that this happens, the Creator is revealed within them.

Question: And what do you mean by “the revelation of the Creator in a person”? What does that mean?

Answer: The quality of bestowal, of love, which elevates us to an entirely different level of perceiving the world.

Question: Are you certain that there is only one path, and no other?

Answer: No, there can be no other path.

Selfless Act, or Gratification of One’s Own Vanity?

559Question: One day I really wanted to do something for someone without expecting anything in return. Suddenly, I saw a poor, sick girl on the street who clearly needed help. I gave her some money. She did not expect it and was so happy that I even teared up. Was it my ego crying, or did I cry because I had made a truly altruistic act?

Answer: A person, by definition, cannot do anything selflessly because he is an egoist. You helped the girl and were so moved by your own act, feeling like you were special, like you had done something selfless and unconditional. You lost a quarter from your pocket and felt good about it.

I am not denying the nobility of your act in any way. But it is earthly nobility, not spiritual. Because you, as a human being made 100% of egoism had to feel satisfaction in order to commit this seemingly altruistic deed.

Therefore, if you receive pleasure from your actions, it is called a reward, payment, or compensation. Your action cannot be called unconditional. Moreover, it was not selfless from the start, because you were moved by compassion; meaning, someone else’s suffering affected you.

And I am not even mentioning that, perhaps, the girl was pretty, in tears, in need of support, and some masculine qualities may have flared up in you; in other words, your egoism was working at full force.

You have to know your nature well in order to understand the reasons behind these inner impulses aimed at helping another person. But until you make a connection with the Creator, they will always remain egoistic.

Inside us, a very interesting machine is at work. That is why people serve each other in different ways, run around hospitals, look for victims, and do all sorts of things for others. All this because egoism, in this special form, pushes them to exchange what seem to be good deeds. But in reality, they are just satisfying themselves, their own vanity!

Through these actions, you elevate your status in your own eyes: you gave to someone, they enjoyed it, and you became higher than them, nobler, you started to respect yourself even more. This is your reward for what you did for them.

Question: So if a person has not revealed the Creator, who provides him with altruistic fuel, does he have any chance at making an altruistic action?

Answer: None. It is self-deception.

Comment: But the act itself is noble.

My Response: Noble means “bringing about good.” And these actions bring no real good—on the contrary, only harm.

If you want to bring true good into the world, draw the upper light into it, that fuel which will help us truly perform even unconscious actions directed away from ourselves and not toward ourselves.

Bestowal

509True bestowal can only be achieved under the influence of the upper light when we study Kabbalah in a group.

By reading books that describe the actions of bestowal that the light performs on desire, we thereby cause its effects on our own desires. It is all very simple.

Question: By what measure is bestowal evaluated?

Answer: Bestowal is measured above the desire, meaning, what kind of desire I am able to rise above in order to bestow. Maybe I can give up 10 dollars, or 20, or perhaps 10 million or even 20.

This example is clear to you. It depends on what you are able to rise above. Bestowal is measured by the magnitude of the desire you transcend, by the desire you disregard in order to bestow. This is called a “sacrifice.” You sacrifice your 10 million.

Relax and Understand One Important Thing

294.4Question: What is the right approach to failure?

Answer: What must be, will be. What is meant to happen will happen. And we must be ready for everything and understand that life is like this: a white stripe, a black stripe.

Question: So after the black stripe, a white one will definitely come?

Answer: Maybe it will just lightly pass, just touch you, but it will come. And then again, a black one.

Question: Then how will I change? Will I not suffer from this, will I not beat myself up?

Answer: No, we are built in such a way that we only run away from failures. We cannot properly analyze them, understand them, correct something, and prepare for something. We cannot. We only work to escape from them. And this is a completely wrong action and philosophy in general.

If we connect these two states—failure and success—we will make ourselves sovereign over them and will not be weak-willed in times of failure or in times of success.

Question: So I kind of unite black and white?

Answer: Yes.

Question: I do not perceive it as a failure?

Answer: You rise above both states and thus go through them easily. You just need to understand what it means to rise above them.

It means to rise above your life’s striving, to stop chasing success. Understand that right now, today, you are in success already, within it.

It is like physicists say there are all sorts of black holes. So actually, we ourselves are in a black hole. In an astronomical black hole.

Question: And what is beyond it?

Answer: Nothing; and nothing is needed. Relax and understand that you are inside nature. And let it lead you. The main thing is to surrender to nature.

Question: So I throw away the oars? There is a current, I throw away the oars.

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is there a current?

Answer: Even that does not matter to me.

Question: That does not matter? To just let go of everything like that?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is that possible?

Answer: If you believe in a wise, great, eternal, all-powerful nature, then in my opinion, it is the most reasonable decision.

Comment: Yes, this sounds very timely: nothing is in my control.

My Response: And moreover, anything you come up with to go against this on your own only emphasizes the insignificance, limitation, misunderstanding, ignorance, and disagreement with this great nature in which we exist.

Resist nothing. Invent nothing. Try simply to understand what nature itself is, agree with it, cling to it, and you will find the most optimal component of your existence.

A Remedy for All the Problems of Humanity

963.4Question: There are people who study Kabbalah who have previously tried many paths, including drugs. But when they come to study Kabbalah, most of them automatically stop using them. Does it turn out that this is a side effect of Kabbalah? In theory, does it cure drug addiction?

Answer: Yes, Kabbalah works precisely as a side effect. After all, it affects only the person who wants to study it, who finds a purpose in life, but at the same time his body pulls him toward drug-related fulfillment. And then an internal struggle arises in him as a result of which he leaves drugs. But there are those who are unable to overcome it.

I do not keep track of my students. I am completely indifferent to what a student is like, what he comes to me with. These can be people with any inclinations, with any distortions. Today, all of this is generally considered the norm. So I do not look and do not delve into it. I am not interested in it.

It is said in Kabbalah that it is a remedy for all the problems of humanity caused by our egoism. And since it cures egoism, it should cure almost everything—from common illnesses to all kinds of distortions that exist in our time and are already accepted as the norm.

I teach Kabbalah, and to the extent that people adapt to it and are able to apply it, it affects them.

I had a severe ulcer and other problems. I suffered a clinical death, with great losses of internal organs, and saw how all this gets restored; how the more a person advances in Kabbalah, the younger, more vigorous, stronger, and more resilient one becomes, because the person is supported by the fact that one is dealing with the upper force, with the light.

This is not just some kind of personal faith, but a real upper energy. I feel it in myself. It does not let you do foolish things or strive for unnecessary achievements in this life in order to become, for example, a great athlete or someone else. But this energy gives you the opportunity to function day after day for many years, to lead people toward something exalted.

That is, Kabbalah is indeed a source of great power. I think that by studying it, humanity will see how it is cured of all problems.

Baal HaSulam writes at the end of the “Introduction to the Book of Zohar” that all the problems in the world: murder, theft, drugs, terror, diseases, mutual hatred, betrayal, family discord, problems with children, basically everything that separates us from perfection by even a single gram,—all of this is born out of our egoism. Only Kabbalah is capable of correcting it and bringing us to absolute perfection, eternity, and peace.

Then You Get Love Instead of Hate

232.06Question: How can we manage stress?

Answer: We need to understand that the convergence of plus and minus at all levels in all circumstances is necessary and should take place, and we need to learn how to do this.

Question: How do we do this?

Answer: It is very simple. Build love over all manifestations of hatred. It is the same principle. There must be hatred, rejection, anything negative, and above it, undoubtedly, plus.

Question: How can you attract this plus to yourself?

Answer: This is what the science of Kabbalah teaches—how to get a plus from a minus in order to let a minus and a plus remain, for them to exist complementing each other. In Kabbalah, this is explained as the correlation of darkness and light.

Question: But how can I attract love? I do hate, and my hate strongly.

Answer: This must be achieved through education; when a person realizes there is no plus without a minus or a minus without a plus, and their correct combination creates life.

When a person realizes this, he becomes calm, reasonable, follows the middle line, and builds himself and the world.

Question: Let us say I hate. What are my actions?

Answer: You should realize that everything comes from the upper force and is given to us to balance all negative qualities, properties, and circumstances with positive ones. All this can happen only in our consciousness. When we realize this, we begin to treat everything with kindness, not denying anything, but accepting everything as an absolute necessity.

Question: Is this hatred necessary?

Answer: It is necessary for us to rise above it, and to exist above it and in it. Then we will balance these two forces of creation—plus and minus.

Comment: That is the whole difficulty: above it, somehow, somewhere it may be possible, perhaps…

My Response: No, it will only be possible egoistically, but in order to exist with it, we must rise above it and balance out all negative properties by adhering to the Creator.

Question: It is not easy. Can you give me a simple formula for overcoming hatred?

Answer: The formula is that a minus equals a plus. That is all. Where there is a minus, you should see a plus.

Question: Is what I hate now a minus?

Answer: It is a minus until you realize that it is also a plus.

Question: So is it good that I hate?

Answer: Yes, but why are you given this? So that you can turn it into a plus. You have to change your attitude to the world. But how? It is very simple. Replace egoism with altruism, hatred with love. And everything will be fine.

Question: So I hate this person, but I say to myself: “This is given to me so I can love him?”

Answer: You are simply given the opposite properties. Replace them with the opposite ones and you will get a wonderful world.

Question: Is it within my power?

Answer: It is not in your power to transform, to accomplish, but it is in your power to beg the Creator to make it so. That is, to reach a state where you really crave it.

Question: Is that why hatred comes? So that I can plead that I passionately want to replace it with love?

Answer: Yes. Then you will realize this was not the reason at all, but so that you establish contact with the Creator. That is all.

Question: I see. It is He who calls us to turn to Him.

Answer: Otherwise, we would not have turned in His direction.

False Pleasure

119Question: Let’s say a person understands perfectly well that some medicine will help him, and he takes it. But at some point, he stops and says: “That is it, I do not want it anymore.” Like for example, drug addicts who know that they should be cured, and that they should endure certain suffering in order to get rid of drug addiction, but they cannot stop.

Answer: This is also a sign of insufficient suffering. At the end of this suffering, a new, lower level gradually unfolds in us where we are no longer able to use false pleasure.

Over time, withdrawal from drugs will come. People will not be able to use them because they will reach the final development of consciousness.

“I can no longer smoke, inject, or sniff. I cannot!”

“Why?”

“Because it is a lie!”

That is, just the understanding that it is a lie neutralizes the feeling of pleasure in them.

This is a natural, dialectical development of our multilayered desire, which consists of its root (zero) level and then the first, second, third, and fourth phases. When we reach the fourth phase of desire—that is it, the end! We can no longer use it.

We realize that it is opposite to some source, something we cannot violate, and that is it. We cannot use that desire anymore. We must rise above it.

Atheism, Religion, and Kabbalah

244Question: What is Kabbalah’s position regarding non-believers and religious people? I see that you seem to constantly navigate between them!

Answer: You are right.

Religion views the Creator similar to a human being, i.e. changing and depending on the person’s actions. Each religion presents both the Creator and His messengers as it likes. They are forced either to coexist or to try to destroy each other because their view is based on faith, meaning it is unprovable. Whoever is stronger is “right.” Or they act as if the others do not exist, each in its own flock.

But they all share one thing: they see God as treating a person based on how the person treats God and others. That is, God changes, is sometimes angry, sometimes compassionate. This is how a person interprets it from their life and fate.

So God can be bribed, you can “pay” for paradise, or appease Him so that He will treat you well. You can atone for sins or buy off punishment. You can give charity to ward off a blow of fate. It is all built on the idea that a person’s external behavior changes God’s attitude toward them.

Atheists treat God like nature, unchangeable and mechanical, and it does not have its own mind and plan, it does not depend on our attitude toward it, but only on our “mechanical” actions.

Kabbalah sees nature and the Creator as one and the same. But He has intelligence, a plan, a purpose. He has feelings. So in the process of development (evolution), He created the human being exactly as we are: with feeling and mind, with two opposing systems, like an egoist who wants to enjoy every moment of existence. He created us this way so that by using the method of Kabbalah and the forces of nature (the surrounding light), a person would change themselves and become similar to the Creator.

Through this a person gains true independence (otherwise they are completely driven by nature and egoism, and are not free), perfection, eternity, and adhesion with the Creator (the status of the Creator).

The Creator in Kabbalah is unchanging because He is absolute, absolutely good, and therefore cannot change; only something less-than-perfect can become better or worse, but not the absolute.

Therefore turning to the Creator is really turning to yourself and convincing yourself of the need to correct yourself to become like the Creator, the model of goodness.

So atheists try to remake the world, and the religious beg the Creator, while Kabbalists correct themselves and thereby correct the world.

532Comment: When a person is afraid, he is like a little rabbit trembling under a bush.

My Response: This is any person.

Comment: Now they are being driven into this fear.

My Response: Yes, big and small, anyone. You need to crawl under that bush with him, snuggle up beside him, and say: “Buddy, do you want to be saved? I have something for you. I’m not asking you to buy anything, just listen to how we can be saved.

Only through uniting above all our problems, hatreds, and whatever it is. Only through uniting. Don’t ask any questions. Look at the other person as your means to survive.” That’s all.

Comment: That’s interesting.

My Response: Yes, egoistically.

Question: My life and the lives of my closest, dearest one’s depend on this. Will I be able to rise above my hatred and “snuggle up” to another?

Answer: It depends only on that. Go outside and look for people you can unite with in this way. You have to do it with everyone. With one person more quickly, with another more slowly, but just unite! That’s it.

Question: When you say “unite,” do you mean it in a very simple sense?

Answer: Nothing else, no other meanings or goals, just to feel each other more closely.

Comment: It would be good to hear you.

My Response: “It would be good.” It will be good! We can’t avoid it! It will happen, either in our generation or in the next, depending on who’s lucky.

Comment:  Better in this one.

My Response: I’m still an optimist.
