Answer: Why should he be left alone? Why does he exist in this world?! To get comfortable, like an animal?!

Once upon a time in bourgeois times it was so. Today there is no such thing and it cannot be because all of humanity is moving forward with great speed, and nature will not leave anyone alone. It will push us, pull us by the ears, and slap us on the cheeks—in general, bother us.

How can it be that at such a pace of development that is observed today, we would be left alone?!

Question: Does this mean, as it is said, that there are no former students and they are all connected in some way?

Answer: Yes. But it depends on the speed at which they develop.

A person who comes to study Kabbalah for the first few years does not understand where he is at all because this is his first adaptation to Kabbalah, to feeling, to space, and to the fact that the world is arranged completely differently because everything in me and everything through me, depends on me.

It is very difficult. Therefore, there is no seniority here. A person can sit here for five or even 10 years and be completely unaware of what we are studying. There are some like that.

In other words, the ego is our main quality, and love is its main opposite quality.

This is indeed a question after the recent cold wave in America left millions of people without electricity and thousands of flights canceled.

As the climate heads into greater extremes globally, how can we best deal with future climate crises?

The short answer is that we cannot deal with them unless we take care of nature’s inner balance.

We live in a tightly-closed and interdependent system in which everything boomerangs back to us. While living in such a system, we need to reconsider what we want and think, and how we treat each other, because our human connections are the primary influence on how nature responds to us.

It is common to think that climate is dependent on factors outside of us—whether it be balances between heat and cold in the environment, or the effects of various kinds of pollution we emit—because we lack a complete picture of how our attitudes to each other bring about the strongest responses from nature toward us.

No creature distorts nature the way that we people do. And it is not simply a matter of switching to renewable energy sources, electric cars and the like; it is a matter of how we relate to each other.

If we truly wish to witness more balance throughout nature and not have to deal with all kinds of cold waves and other natural disasters, then similarly to how we have electricity, water and gas meters in our homes, we should also have meters that count how much evil we emit into the world from our negative attitudes to each other. What I mean is that if we could feel the extent to which we emit negative forces into the world, which negatively ricochet back to us, then we would wish to change this negative driver within us. We would want to switch it to a drive that makes our human connections positive, and which harmonizes us with nature.

In simple terms, when we get up in the morning, we should first and foremost consider what we need to do in order for all people to have it good. Developing such an attitude is not so simple, yet we will need to seriously work on it as we head into the future. A life of increasing blows from nature or a life of peace and harmony depends on the extent to which we impact a shift in our attitudes to each other—from negative to positive.

Michael Laitman, On Quora: “What are the pros and cons of a 4-day work week?“

One of my students told me that 100 companies in the UK recently switched to a permanent four-day work week for their employees without loss of pay, and that they hope to be a vanguard of a major change in work patterns by doing so. Moreover, the student told me that proponents of the four-day week argue that it will make companies improve their productivity with fewer working hours.

The more such an idea gains popularity, the more we will find ourselves questioning why so many companies insist on five or even six-day work weeks with long working hours. However, I think that the cons of the four-day work week would outweigh its pros because people in general do not know how to use their leisure time constructively. That is, if we would give more leisure time to people en masse, then we could expect to see a vast increase of problems in families: more arguments, divorces, problems with the kids, and so on.

Increasing our leisure time without implementing the learning of how to improve our relations would bring about more and more ruptures in our relations.

We thus need connection-enriching learning in order to build balanced lives between our home, family, work and leisure time. That is, we need an overriding purpose and meaning to everything we do, otherwise our engagements will end up tearing away at our relations. If we then set ourselves up to regularly improve our relationships throughout society from one day to the next, we could confidently lessen work hours and give people more time to rest and be with their families.

Michael Laitman, On Quora: “Is war a necessary part of life?“

The will to dominate is at the very foundation of our nature, and war is thus a part of our lives. However, it is counterproductive to our very own interests.

If we view humanity from aside, then we see that war destroys us. With all of our technological progress, we could have built heaven on earth, but we see the contrary: that we instead plunge into more and more wars and conflicts.

At the basis of all war is the human ego, which sizes us up against each other, placing us into a constant competition. As a result, we reach such relations where we see war becoming increasingly inevitable.

When can we reach some peace and quiet?

It is when we will develop ourselves and reach a state where, through a correct form of education that guides us on how to understand who and what we are, what nature is, how nature works and develops, and how we can enter into balance among each other and with nature, then we will eventually come to hate war and discover an eternal state of peace.

At the heart of such education needs to be a common love for one another. On one hand, war is embedded in us, but on the other hand, through learning and exercising love toward one another, we will be able to destroy our warring inclination.

Love will win over hatred and the warring inclination because love is a much stronger force. However, love is a force that can enter our relations and defeat the warring inclination on condition that we develop a desire for it to govern us.

Question: What attracts men to women?

Answer: Many things. It depends on what preferences men have. Depending on them, they look for the corresponding fulfillment in women.

But, in principle, a woman is an irreplaceable person in society, thanks to which it exists. Men could live peacefully in the forest, sit by the fire and smoke, and a woman forces a man to build the world.

Question: But when a man chooses a woman even for a short-term relationship, he does not think that she saves the world. What is it that attracts him to her?

Answer: In principle, a man is not able to exist without women. A woman can without a man, but a man cannot without a woman.

Question: In what sense can he not exist without her? After all, he can cook himself a meal, take his clothes to the laundry or wash them.

Answer: Even in the modern world, all this is very difficult. I do not think this is possible in the broad sense of the word. A woman, however, sorts it all out, she is used to it, and she can take care of herself. A man cannot take care of himself!

Question: Do you mean that he needs some special psychological completion?

Answer: Psychological, physical, and physiological—all of them. It is impossible to live without women. Without men, however, it is possible.

On one hand, the ultra-rich are driven by their own power and wealth, but on the other hand, they are motivated by a challenge—that they wish to see a positive result from their lives.

If we act for humanity’s benefit, then we feel a loftier result from our lives.

Whether it is through philanthropy or pushing certain entrepreneurial initiatives that they believe benefit humanity, they like to see that their success changes the world. Then, when they feel that they bring something good to the world, they feel as if they soar ever higher above everyone, only instead of money, they see humanity’s achievements in light of their work.
