Pray for a Better Way

243.04Question: Can our choice be that we leave the decision to the Creator?

Answer: We must constantly pray to the Creator so that He shows us what action is really required.

Question: Should this prayer be about choosing a good path or specific situations in the ten to find the best solution?

Answer: Maybe so, but usually about the best path.

Question: Everything that comes from the Creator is good. What determines whether it becomes the potion of death or the elixir of life?

Answer: It depends on how we perceive what comes to the ten.

Reveal the Creator within the Connection between Us

938.01Question: Is the correct prayer made up of thoughts, actions, feelings, or all of these together?

Answer: When a person asks from the heart, he does not make a calculation: 20% of thoughts, 30% of feelings, 20 to 30% of experiences. He simply asks from the heart.

Question: How can a ten come to one united prayer? We are all different. We all came to Kabbalah at different times, and each one has his own opinion. One wants to study, another wants to pray, a third wants to answer, one hisses at the other: “Be quiet, I can’t hear the teacher,” and so on.

Answer: It is precisely this discrepancy between people in the ten—when one is in one state, the other is in another, and the third is in a third—that gives the correct result. This one wants to pray and that one wants to study; this one wants to disseminate and that one believes that the most important thing today is to make a film for dissemination.

Each one has his own states, so everyone should understand that merging them into a single direction toward the Creator will bring the correct result. Each one from his own point.

So there is no need to worry that all people are different. They will always vary more and more in the ten. But if they strive toward the Creator, then He unites them together.

That is why it is said: “In Him our hearts will rejoice,” meaning in Him we unite. This is very important. We will not be united until we are incorporated into the Creator.

Comment: But when I look at others, I see that they are not in the Creator.

My Response: We do not check who is in the Creator and who is not. We all strive toward the Creator, each one as much as he can and in his own way.

If we try to unite outside of Him, it means a unification of egoists, and nothing will come of it. The Creator will make us even greater haters of each other. But if we try to unite in Him into a single whole, then we will succeed. Simultaneously with the feeling of unification, we will begin to feel the Creator and reveal Him in the connection between us.

Which Creator Should I Listen To?

202.0Comment: I decided that I only have Kabbalah in my life, and I don’t get distracted by other methods. But my “donkey” desires something different. For example, I want to go out and have a beer, I feel that urge. But I understand that if I go, I will not be able to get up for the morning lesson, and I will have a headache. I feel powerless in this situation because it feels like it is the Creator directing me this way.

My Response: Let us clarify: the Creator sends you to the lesson and the Creator sends you to have a beer. The Creator is everywhere, in both places. So which direction do you choose? Which Creator will you listen to?

Question: I understand that all of this is from the Creator, but can I pray for myself to follow the Creator who sends me to the lesson?

Answer: I do not think that is the best path because you will end up fooling yourself. It is better to use your ten to overcome the “beer” Creator. Then you will truly feel like you are in a fight, will connect more with the group, and will strengthen your connection with the Creator and the connection of the Creator with the group. In this way, you will really advance.

I believe that if a person finds themselves at a crossroads with two apparent paths, they should recognize that both are given by the Creator so they must decide which choice the Creator would prefer.

Question: Can I pray for myself and ask the Creator to help me choose the right path?

Answer: That is a weak prayer. It is much better to pray through the ten. A genuine prayer is always done with what is called a minyan, a group of ten people.

Preparation Before the Lesson

235Question: What does it mean to come to the lesson with the intention to purify myself? How can I check if I truly have that intention?

Answer: Analyze what you were thinking about before the lesson.

Question: Is it possible that someone gets up for the lesson every day simply out of habit?

Answer: That is why you do not see serious results from your studies. Sit for a moment before the lesson and think about yourself, your state, and what lies ahead.

Gradually, you will see what thoughts, feelings, and requests you can bring to the Creator.

Question: But how can I check my focus on the request for purification? After all, a million different thoughts and requests can come up.

Answer: That is exactly why you should ask, in your own words.

The Correct Kli of the Ten

528.03The correct Kli of the ten is formed when ten friends want to unite all their desires, goals, and intentions for the sake of the Creator.

We need to strive to get closer to the Creator so that He can be revealed to us as much as possible, and we can use His properties and His power. In this case, we will have the quality of bestowal and become like Him.

Question: How should the ten repay the Creator for the true reward of adhesion with Him?

Answer: By wanting to be like the Creator.

What Should We Ask For?

629.3Question: I look at a friend whom I do not accept, and I see myself before me; this is an image of me. If I cannot ask for myself, whom do I ask for because it is my image in front of me?

Answer: It is opposite you. What does it mean to see another person in front of me? I see my negative qualities. If I had the corrected properties, I would not see anyone as bad. Therefore, ask for correction so that you see everyone as fully corrected.

What else can you ask for? For the Creator to correct others? This is only possible in the ten where we mutually help each other.

Here is a dilemma: to pray for the world to be better or to correct yourself not to see the world as evil. This is individual and shared work.

When you ask for your correction in order to relate to your friends in the ten correctly, you are not asking for your ego. You are asking to correct yourself, to rise, and thus correctly interact with them, become interconnected, and help them. This is not considered asking for yourself because you are asking for the ten. Therefore, there is a condition: turn to the Creator only through the ten.

We must ask constantly, as it was said: “May you ask constantly ask” i.e., constantly be praying.

How You Come to Adhesion with the Creator?

935Question: Baal HaSulam was in adhesion with the Creator. How can we reach such unity with the Creator in our neighbor?

Answer: That is not simple. You have to be connected with each other, and from your common connection you have to plea the Creator so He will tie you together even more strongly and will include you in Him. We cannot ask for more, and we do not even need more. As it is said: “In Him my heart will delight.”

Question: Rabash writes that Baal HaSulam made it so that an ordinary person could achieve Dvekut [adhesion] with the Creator when before only great disciples could do so.

Can we now improve our methodology so that every person could achieve adhesion with the Creator like a real sage?

Answer: If we achieve what we are supposed to achieve, then we will understand how we can help everyone. This will be the result of our spiritual work.

The Great Light of Final Salvation—Hoshana Rabbah

293.1The seventh day of the Sukkot holiday, which completes the holidays, is called Hoshana Rabbah (The Great Salvation). Every day we ask the Creator for salvation, and now, on the last day of the holiday, we must combine all our requests into one big cry: “Save us!” After all, we kept asking, but salvation did not come.

This seventh day is dedicated to King David who feels there is no great, final salvation for the entire people of Israel yet. As the king of Israel, Sefira Malchut, he feels this most of all and therefore cries out to the Creator, and we need to join in this cry.

On the night of Hoshana Rabbah, it is customary for everyone to check whether he has a shade, the perfect faith, clothing for the light. Night, darkness, comes precisely to the place where light should be revealed. And if we pray and ask as we should, light comes inside this darkness, and then it seems much stronger than usual.

Faith is the condition on which the light can shine, and nothing can overshadow it. We call this night Hoshana Rabbah because the light comes to those Kelim who need it, demand it, and ask for it to be revealed. This is a consequence of all the past days of Sukkot as a result of which the light appears. And to the extent of this light comes the great salvation, Hoshana Rabbah.

A person checks his shade, that is, how much effort he exerted, despite concealment, and merited salvation, the light. Throughout the Sukkot festival he asked to be in the shade, that is, he asked for faith. And now, by his shade, he checks how correctly he walked the path and prepared himself for the great light that should be revealed during Hoshana Rabbah.

As a result of this request, we receive the great light of Hoshana Rabbah that leads us to correction. This light gives us a huge shade within which we can reveal the huge light of the great salvation, Hoshana Rabbah.

Ask for Correction

232.1Question: What fulfillment do we ask for during our ascent toward the Creator?

Answer: We ask the Creator to fill us with light, which will correct us and draw us closer to the Creator to the extent that we feel included in Him, and through our connection with the Creator, we will adhere to Him and feel what He feels.

Question: How can we become included in His feelings?

Answer: Ask for it. How He will do it, we do not know. Perhaps we will find out later, but for now, just ask.

Question: Does a Kabbalist become included in the Creator and feel His mood and sensations?

Answer: Yes.

562.02Question: The Creator gives us absolutely everything today: the conditions, the environment, and the opportunity to act. I do whatever I can, but in the end, I realize that I am not truly ready to ask the Creator. It is as if I do not want to give Him space to work with me and bring me closer to Him. How can I avoid forgetting that I need to make room for the Creator?

Answer: This is an exercise in constantly thinking about the greatness of the Creator, His uniqueness, and the fact that only He is above us and connects us with everything in the world.

We must continuously hold on to Him, always asking like a child who clings to an adult and persistently demands attention. Eventually the adult gives in.

We must pray to the Creator to reveal unity to us in everything. Then we will feel how interconnected we are, that each person defines the state of everyone else, and that there is no distance between us.

Draw closer to one another as tightly as possible, and from that connection turn to the Creator.
