Question: Is my task to serve the ten and create the conditions for all the nine friends to unite?

Answer: By doing this you are serving yourself, and not them. Your egoism seems to tell you that you are you, and they are them. In reality, they are the spiritual “you.”

Question: I understand that all my actions regarding the ten come from the mind, from pure calculation, and not from the heart. How can I learn to ask for strength from the ten to move on?

Answer: First of all, asking is good. On the other hand, you must understand that gradually from your efforts you will develop all kinds of feelings, thoughts, and connection with them. You will begin to understand how to quickly create contact with them, and you will become a master of your craft.

Suppose, when you start working with some kind of material or some unknown construct, you do not understand much. But gradually you get a feeling of what you are working with, what it really is.

In the same way, we do not yet have an understanding or feeling of what a ten is. And when you start working with one group, another one, and still another one, trying to gradually connect to them, a structure of this object will begin to get created inside you. In this way, you will begin to feel within yourself what a spiritual Kli is.

You will have a grasp, an understanding, of how the ten changes. Therefore, try to be in different tens all the time. The main thing is to begin to connect. Anyway, all of us, all of humanity are one big ten. So there is no problem being in different states.

Question: How do we find that point where we can interact among ourselves on the level of desires and aspiration toward the Creator rather than on the level of bodies and characters?

Answer: We do not speak at all about the animal body. It has no relation to spiritual work because it belongs to the level of our world. We do not speak about our characters because the Creator assembles us. This is His “problem.” He created us with these characters and gathered us together just the way we are, so that we understand that we can unite only with His help.

Moreover, He gathers very difficult people: nervous, angry, nit-picking ones that are inclined to criticize. Kabbalists in all times were the most dreadful people, the biggest egoists. Otherwise they would not demand knowledge of the meaning of life, its cause, its source. For this, a great egoistic desire is necessary.

These are people who cannot think about anyone but themselves. Not that they are rude or cruel, no. That is just how they are inside. And it is they who begin to reveal that they cannot unite but must do so.

Here arises a dilemma that humanity faces. If we do not unite, then eventually we will come to destruction. Look at what is happening today, what frictions between everyone, what calculations. Horror! So many sources of all sorts of conflicts!

The Creator deliberately awakens this among us so that we understand that there can be nothing better than unity. But we cannot unite. We do not even think about it because we understand that it is pointless, that every state cares only about itself. Moreover, within each state there are dozens of currents, parties, that tear it apart. Human society is tearing itself apart from within by its egoism.

And here we must demonstrate that against egoism there is a force that can unite us. In general, everyone agrees that revealing such a force is good. We just need to show through our own example that this is possible.

And then we will be able to convince humanity not theoretically and not with beautiful words, to aspire toward mutual guarantee too; we will show how it works. Otherwise, no one will take us seriously. This is what we must do.

Question: What should we do to reveal the Creator?

Answer: The same as we do now, there is nothing else.

If, by connecting with each other, we reach the first stage of unification, the light of the level of Nefesh arises in us; it is the first, the smallest, of the five lights we must attain.

Then we continue to work, and if we go through the embryo state, we are born into the spiritual world.

Then, we begin to feel the next level of our existence called “nursing,” as in our world. That is why such actions occur in our world as the consequences of spiritual actions.

Usually, the nursing period is called “two years.” But those are two years in a spiritual sense. Afterward, we reach the level of Ruach and grow further to the level of Neshama, Haya, Yechida de Nefesh, and so on.

We study all these steps in the Study of The Ten Sefirot. This is what should advance us.

The whole science of Kabbalah, in fact, is built only on giving a person the opportunity to enter the spiritual world and begin their equalization with the Creator.

Question: I don’t have the strength to annul myself. How can the ten help me with this?

Answer: First, by example, and on the other hand, by pressure, when the ten shows you that you must cancel yourself in front of them.

Second, you must help your friends with everything, i.e., fulfill all the work conditions Rabash writes about in the ten. By observing them, you become an embryo inside the ten, and the ten turns into your mother’s body.

And when you all finish this work and cancel yourselves before each other, you get ten mutually cancellable egoistic desires. At the same time, you become a full-fledged spiritual embryo. There will be no reverse movement; you will begin your intrauterine development.

Your development will occur in the Creator, in the quality of bestowal and love. As it is said, you will begin to feel the upper world: The embryo in the mother sees the whole world from edge to edge since it completely cancels itself. Therefore, it sees absolutely everything, even what it does not see after birth.

And then there are the days of its development. “Days,” changes, a constant, ever-increasing glow of light and an ever-increasing nullification of oneself in this light. It is the development of the embryo. On one hand, he develops egoistically, and his egoistic mass manifests increasingly in him. On the other hand, he cancels more and more of this mass growing in him and thus grows.

It therefore follows that each one should try to bring into the society a spirit of life and hopefulness, and infuse energy into the society. Thus, each of the friends will be able to tell himself, “Now I am starting a clean slate in the work.” In other words, before he came to the society, he was disappointed with the progress in the work of the Creator, but now the society has filled him with life and hopefulness.

Thus, through the society, he obtained the confidence and strength to overcome because now he feels that he can achieve wholeness (Rabash, Article 30 “What to Look for in the Assembly of Friends”).

There is an apparent principle in Kabbalah: There is Kabbalah, and there is material life. Separate this clearly with an iron wall.

In this life your personal aspects are your body, food, family, children, whatever you want. On the other hand, we need to comprehend the Creator, our activities, our group, and our friends without mixing.

Although we consist of two parts, male and female, we cannot mix them. However, the woman is given an opportunity to ask questions, listen, and participate.

Women have very powerful Hisaron, and you can feel how they pressure men; this is very good. And we must take their pure Hisaron, pure desire, and connect it to ourselves.

It is what we study from the structure of the spiritual Partzuf. Malchut, located below, is the female part. And the restriction (Tzimtzum), the screen (Masach), the reflected light (Ohr Hozer), this is all the male part, which is included in the first nine Sefirot where the upper light is obtained and the Creator is revealed.

That is, the Creator is revealed in a woman’s desire, formed with the help of a man’s intention.

Question: How can one convince oneself that any actions for oneself are evil? Even some kind and positive group actions done for oneself are still evil.

Answer: Anything that hinders truth and devoted connection in one common desire is evil. It is impossible to give a clear definition of evil. Evil is opposed to connection in which the quality of the Creator is revealed.

Comment: I do some group actions, and they are beneficial, but at the same time, when I analyze them, I catch myself thinking that I did them for myself. But I do not feel bad about it at all. And I do not like that.

My Response: Why? Because you are giving yourself some incorrect definitions. Stop philosophizing!

Anything that leads to the connection with the friends into one single whole, into one thought, into one desire, into one action, into one intention, is good. The place where I dissolve into the group is good.

That is it! Do not consider any other theories.

Question: Should I work not for the sake of the reward, nor myself, should I not want to receive anything?

Answer: No, you work to get a reward. But which one? It is to be able to bestow to the Creator.

Question: But I understand that bestowing to the Creator means making efforts and enjoying His work.

Answer: No, you do not have to make your conclusions. You must read the sources, or your understanding will give you such a philosophy that you will not know where you are. Our reward is acquiring the property of bestowal, becoming similar to the Creator.

Question: Should I cry out for the sake of such a reward?

Answer: Yes, you should get a sense of importance and need for this reward through the group so much so that you can live only for this. And everything else is your purely earthly egoism.

Question: Do we come to the group in order to reach common hopelessness and helplessness?

Answer: No. We come to the group to reveal the Creator within it. However, when we start working, we reveal the impossibility of connecting by our own efforts.

Similarly, humanity must convince itself at its lower level that it is incapable of reaching a normal earthly human life. Nothing works for them in family life, in raising children, technology, work, culture, or science; whatever they do, they only harm themselves. Gradually, humanity truly becomes convinced of this.

Then they are invited to correct this with the upper light, the positive energy that works within us. Kabbalah explains that this energy can only be drawn from common work on ourselves in order to reach some common denominator.

Suppose theoretically we are ready. A part of humanity, for example, Bnei Baruch, desires this. But when we start working on connection, we, like all of humanity, also feel the impossibility of it. Even if we want to yield to each other, care for each other, empathize, and suffer together, it does not work!

The Creator deliberately makes it so that we cannot correctly adjust ourselves and become masters of the world (we cannot be masters of the world because we are created beings), but He makes it so that we become disappointed in our own strength and feel the need for Him. This is when we appeal to Him, and He builds a system of correct integral connection between us called Arvut (mutual guarantee).

Only after this can we constantly work with this system of connection. Its revelation between us is called the entry into the upper world, because in that case, we begin to see the entire creation in connection among us through an organ of perception called “the group,” “the ten Sefirot.” Then we can move forward calmly, without error, while understanding what we must do.
