Gradual Attainment

237Question: People who know the concealed part of the Torah are Kabbalists. But does a Kabbalist also have a part he has not yet attained?

Answer: Each person, even those who have already revealed the Creator, has a part that they attain and a part that they have not. We are not yet in the final correction.

Therefore, we always go in faith above reason, remove a small portion from the concealed part of the Torah, and turn it into revealed to us.

Question: The concealed part of the spiritual action is called a “candle commandment.” How should one act in the ten to reveal the light of the Torah?

Answer: By coming closer to each other with your hearts until you discover that fire and light are revealed inside them.

A War against Common Egoism

931.01Question: A person fights with his ego for connection with the friends. I just do not understand why I should pause here, and what happens at this pause. Will I fall if I pause?

Answer: No, at this pause neither retreat nor cessation of military activities take place.

You simply begin to better understand where you are, who you are fighting with, and why. This is a forced pause to reassess your strengths and goals. This is Hanukkah.

You must realize that with the understanding that you are now gaining, you again need to connect with the Creator and with all your friends in one single desire for love, bestowal, and mutual assistance, and with this go to war against our common egoism.

Question: What if you do not fight the war, but pray constantly?

Answer: This is, in fact, conducting the war, because we choose between two forces of nature: egoistic and altruistic. Any fight occurs only in our desires, intentions, and internal and spiritual actions.

The Light Our Ancestors Were Rewarded

275Question: Due to what in Hanukkah do we get additional strength to work with the vessels of reception?

Answer: It is due to the fact that once people fought for it, and now we use it. We try to connect and rely on the upper light that our ancestors were honored with during their Hanukkah. Therefore, no special actions are required of us.

We continue our usual work in the ten, remembering that we are in the days of Hanukkah, and thus attract the upper light that they revealed at the time.

There Are No Other Options

629.4Question: Hanukkah is a break in the war against the ego, when we set ourselves up for victory. But if we don’t win this war, what can we expect next?

Answer: We will definitely win the war against the evil inclination because everything has already been calculated from above. So, there’s no problem.

But to do this, we must come together in one heart, connect with each other, work together, and support each other only out of a common, mutually united desire. Then we will defeat egoism. There are no other options.

Question: Can we consider that in fact our job is easy, and thus calm ourselves down in order to go into battle?

Answer: We can. It is said that this is not hard work. Only those who develop a love for their friends see how easy it is.

How Can We Attract the Force of the Creator

935Question: What do we lack to attract the force of the Creator?

Answer: You only need to open your hearts in the ten, connect them into one big heart, and turn to the Creator so that He fills it.

Question: Supposedly, a small child throwing a fit in a store understands what toy he wants. But we do not know what connection we demand from the Creator.

Answer: That is why Kabbalah is called a concealed wisdom

Question: Should we ask for this feeling to appear to us?

Answer: It will not appear clearly anyway; it will be somehow concealed because the main thing for you is the connection with your friends and not what you receive in it.

Dissolve in the Whole World

533.02Question: To be awarded the clothing of the Creator, one must feel like they are below everyone.

What kind of lowness is this? I can just be in low thoughts, meaning, not think about the Creator at all.

Answer: No, it is not about low thoughts. The point is, what is your assessment of yourself relative to the world and everyone?

Comment: I can feel small about all the great ones of this world and their values. But that is not the point.

My Response: And about that too. A person who wants to reach the Creator must dissolve into the whole world, to feel below everyone, and then he will begin to understand the state of the upper. As it is said: from the low I recognize the Creator.

Questions about Spiritual Work—46

234Question: What is the difference between bestowing for the sake of bestowing and receiving for the sake of bestowing?

Answer: Bestowing for the sake of bestowing is the level of Bina, and receiving for the sake of bestowing is the level of Hochma. There is a very big difference between them.

Question: Can it always be Hanukkah when you hope for the Creator’s help?

Answer: Yes, in this case you are in the state called Hanukkah.

Question: When a person finally comes to the realization that if the Creator does not help him, he is lost, is this a state of victory over the Greeks?

Answer: This is a very good state for a person because now he knows for sure that he needs the Creator.

Question: Is it possible, based on the realization that “there is none else besides Him” and faith above reason, to accept a peace agreement with egoism, and not break it, but to move further together with it along a path that would suit both?

Answer: No, it is impossible. Until you break it, nothing will happen. You must defeat egoism—each one within himself and all together in the whole world. Otherwise we are finished.

Question: We say that on Hanukkah a person has already overcome his evil inclination, the Din (judgment) has stopped, and he can work for bestowal. Why can we not just wait for the light of Shabbat to come, but we need to continue the fight?

Answer: The lights do not come automatically, but only after your struggle and your victory.

The Property of the “Greeks”

282.02“Greeks” are a person’s egoistic properties that do not allow him to advance to the properties of the Creator—love and bestowal. At the same time, they help us by the fact that in their opposition, they force us to strengthen our movement toward the Creator, ask Him for help, and rise higher and higher.

Question: But what if the “Greeks” come from the group? Still, it is unclear whether to ask a friend to correct this desire or to raise it?

Answer: And what if the Greeks come from you? What do you do? There are egotistic desires in each of us.

They are called Greeks without any connection with that nation. Therefore, it is necessary to separate the properties of bestowal and love from the egoistic properties that have been called the Greeks for several thousand years.

Question: Is there any kind of a universal answer to all the smart questions of the Greeks so as not to fall into this abyss together with them every time?

Answer: Yes, there is one universal answer, it is the connection between us when, as a result of our spiritual work, we attain one single force of bestowal, fight with the Greeks, and win.

Question: What happens to the Greeks afterward? Do we destroy them, or do they turn into some kind of force?

Answer: We do not destroy anyone. In our wars, we only change our intentions from receiving for ourselves to bestowing to the Creator.
