Clothe in the Desires of the Friends

933Question: I clothe myself with the desires of my friends in the ten until the Creator clothes these desires. What does it mean? How does this happen?

Answer: I cancel myself and put on the desires of my friends because I want them to be realized. It is when I clothe their desires with my desire so that they come true, then I reveal the Creator in them.

By this, I achieve the property of bestowal in the form it exists in a friend, and thus I comprehend the Creator. A friend gives me a Kli and I give him Aviut, and the Creator dresses in it.

Question: What kind of clothing do I expect in the desires of my friends? Should they have some sort of additional strength or filling? How can I check that I did my job well?

Answer: According to the result. And the result should be the revelation of the Creator! If I adhere to my friend correctly so that everything he wants comes true and I want him to succeed, I reveal the Creator in him.

I want to fulfill his desire using the property of bestowal. He gave me the format of this property he wanted, and I expanded it. A friend is like a screen on which the Creator is revealed to me.

My quality of bestowal operates in my friend because I want to help him, and the Creator reveals himself to me in his desire.

Think about it. It is a spiritual action! I cancel myself before my friend. I want to lead him to the Creator completely, to spirituality. And therefore, in his desires, when I work with my Aviut and give him Ohr Hozer, the Creator dresses in them, Ohr Yashar.

Enjoyment from the Past, Present, and Future

276.02Man receives pleasure from three Kelim called “future,” “present,” and “past” (Rabash, Notes 200, “Receiving Pleasure from Three Kelim [Vessels]”).

Pleasure comes from the past, present, and future. It all depends on how I feel about it.

The most significant content comes from the future because it has yet to be dressed in any form. I imagine it as superb, which is currently impossible to receive in my Kelim and enjoy, but in the future, yes.

Therefore, although the past, present, and future depend on each other, the future can shine for me for a long time, and the present, which I now feel, will gradually fade away. As for the past, I generally need a mood and an exact connection with it.

So, the greatest pleasure comes from the future. It can be stretched out as much as you like until it comes and turns into the past.

When Will a Person Begin to Change?

271Question: Let’s say there is a certain amount of egoism that is distributed among all of humanity. Everyone is given several decades to somehow recognize this egoism.

As Baal HaSulam writes, everything depends on human development. Some people directly use their egoism without hesitation. Some people use it but more secretly. And some are already aware and do not want to use the ego at all; they want to be altruists, although by nature they are egoists.

The question arises: at some stage will humanity realize that this certain amount of egoism should not develop to the end, and will it begin to change?

Answer: As egoism grows, a person begins to feel increasingly bad. He sees what egoism forces him to do, how the ego is his own enemy, and as a result, he rebels against egoism.

But the question is, when will he start doing this? What tools does a person have to limit his egoism?

Here we must understand that not always, not everywhere, not in every society, not in every historical example, especially in our time, can we get out from under the ego, although we understand the essence of egoism and can give it a critical assessment.

Donation Criteria

243.01Question: Effective altruists, on average, donate significantly more money than is accepted in society. Some of them feel they have a moral duty to alleviate the suffering of others through donations unless those donations would bring a comparable level of suffering to themselves. This is their formula.

How much do you think a person should donate? Is there any criterion?

Answer: No, there are no criteria. I think some reasonable limit is necessary so that a person does not suddenly begin to get carried away by absurd ideas and sacrifice for such things that will show their inconsistency, if not today, then tomorrow.

Question: Should we give everything that comes to us so that we simply level ourselves out?

Answer: No, not in any case! If we begin to give away what we have earned and deserve, we will turn into the same beggars with an outstretched hand as those who expect alms from us. Therefore, I think this approach is wrong.

The Book of Zohar’s Influence

527.07Question: You say that when reading The Book of Zohar, we do not feel how spiritual forces influence us or how many corrections occur during its study. If a person does not feel anything, does it mean that nothing is happening?

Answer: Certainly! Do we feel what is happening in our bodies? We feel only a millionth part of what is happening, and everything else passes by our senses and thoughts. We do not catch anything, and we do not have time to process anything.

Question: I can usually judge something when I feel something. You say if I do not feel, then is nothing happening. So does studying The Book of Zohar influence people?

Answer: The fact is that, on one hand, the integral world in which I actually find myself is vital to me and not the one that seems to me. I want to know the complete picture of the world and how it affects me. And what I do not feel today, I can feel tomorrow. Therefore, first of all, I need to experience this world. Second, I work in the part of the world that I feel.

There are two worlds: revealed and hidden. I must uncover everything around me and connect with the universe entirely.

This is what Kabbalah is for. That is why it is called the science of receiving. Receiving, that is, the disclosure of the universal complete universe, so I feel myself not within the framework of our world, not within the framework of my body, but in perfection, in eternity, in complete harmony with all of nature, I feel as an integral part of it, as eternal as it is.

Question: Let’s say an ordinary person begins to study The Book of Zohar. Does even just reading a passage affect him?

Answer: It does even if he just hears and does not understand. All the same, he is in contact because everything that happens in our world is some kind of contact through the matter of our world, which is desire.

How Can You Rise to the Level of Truth?

504Question: It is said that when you are given an awakening from above, you cannot comprehend the spiritual degree. And it is only through the effort of accepting the burden of heavenly Malchut by choice that one merits rising to the level of truth.

Why is it impossible to attain spirituality through an awakening from above? How can you make the right choice?

Answer: It will not work right away. First you have to draw closer to the Creator.

And in order to make the right choice in accepting the burden of heavenly Malchut, first it is necessary to open the primary sources or collection of prayers, and this will help you attune to the Creator. Otherwise, your thoughts will be scattered in different directions, and you will never achieve anything this way.

You need to direct yourself precisely, as in shooting: you direct, aim, and know exactly with what force you need to strike for the projectile to hit the target. Everything must be weighed here; that is why it takes time and habit.

Heightened Senses

231.01Question: I often notice that you close your eyes when you want to convey a specific spiritual picture. Why do you do this?

Answer: To focus. In principle, whether my eyes are closed or open has nothing to do with the sensation of the higher world.

Concentrating on the students and conveying information to them is necessary because it is challenging to bring it out from the inside and clothe it in some earthly form. You need to concentrate so you are not disturbed by images, sounds, or smells. Everything gets in the way!

I remember when an ambulance passed near the place where we were studying with Rabash, he got switched off. If a tractor was working quietly somewhere, emitting a distant, monotonous sound, it was difficult for him to concentrate.

And I have an even bigger problem. First of all, I am not him. He was huge on the one hand. On the other hand, 300 students are in front of me. I must feel them, but feelings still include earthly sensations too.

It turns out that the slightest sound, some kind of knock, someone said something, someone misunderstood something, and I already start to lose my intention, my concentration. Therefore, I need it to be quiet. Even the smell of something is distracting.

It seems to us that the Kabbalist withdraws into himself and plunges inside like a yogi. No. His immersion coincides with the intensification of all earthly senses, I can’t even tell you how much!

For example, while we are walking and talking with Rabash, a small pebble the size of a pea suddenly got into his shoe and prevented him from concentrating. This doesn’t fit at all with how we are used to thinking about the upper world.

To the Kabbalist, all this appears as one whole, and he becomes sensitive to everything. He does not leave, does not float away somewhere; on the contrary, every particle, every connection in the world becomes very important to him. He sees this unity and mutual influence. This whole world is what he needs.

Unite in Attack

938.04Question: Why don’t you periodically shout “Attack!” at a convention so that the entire convention would instantly unite in one intention?

Answer: The fact is that I cannot be the commander-in-chief. This is not a spiritual approach.

The only thing I can say is that it is useful and good if you do this from time to time. Not to overuse it, but to unite in an attack during critical moments when you feel the spirit of unity fading or, on the contrary, at the peak of feelings and aspirations.

But it is not about shouting. It should be a quiet, but very sharp internal surge. So I will not shout anything.

I can shout, swear, and get upset when we deal with corporeal problems. But in the spiritual realm, different laws operate.

Question: What if you mentally command us to attack?

Answer: Then you will rise and follow me into battle. I will command you. I promise.
