When people realize that they have to balance all the negative and positive forces, emotions, and motives in them, then this middle line will prevail.

As a result, we will get people striving for truth, balance, mutual help, and mutual influence, and we will come to the middle line.

Michael Laitman, On The Times of Israel: “Canada Students’ Hitler Salute Proves Entrenched Antisemitism”

Last week, “A Jewish teacher, the daughter of Holocaust survivors, was surrounded by students who flashed the Heil Hitler salute in class at a North York school,” the Toronto City News reported. This was neither the first nor the second such case in Canada. CBC reported that this is the “third incident this month involving students performing a Nazi salute within the Toronto District School Board.” It may surprise some people that there is antisemitism in Canada, but it shouldn’t. Jew-hatred is spreading rapidly, and will proliferate around the world until we Jews take the required action to eliminate it.

It should not surprise us that there is antisemitism in Canada, since many of its residents come from inherently antisemitic nations in Europe. The displays we see today merely express what has been kept hidden in their hearts until now, but nothing fundamental has changed in how they feel toward Jews.

Moreover, antisemitism will not go away until we dry up its well. Since Jew-hatred is expressed by non-Jews, we attribute its origin to them. But they are not the origin. Our own sages tell us countless times that when we hate each other, we bring about the hatred of the world toward us. Even if we do not feel that we hate other Jews, the very existence of antisemitism means that hatred exists among us, even if covertly.

Our sages referred to Jewish self-hatred as sinaat himam (hatred without cause). They explained that this is what caused our downfall in the days of the Second Temple and the exile from the Land of Israel. While we refer to it as self-hatred, in essence, it is the same ailment that destroyed us two millennia ago.

Therefore, we may use antisemitism as a sensor for self-hate. Even when we do not sense it, if there is antisemitism, it means that we are hateful of each other. Consequently, the antidote to antisemitism is to strengthen Jewish unity. This is the action we must take.

We have always known this, and we have always spurned it, even in the face of the most demonic perils. In 1929, Dr. Kurt Fleischer, then leader of the Liberals in the Berlin Jewish Community Assembly, stated that “Antisemitism is the scourge that God has sent us in order to lead us together and weld us together.” Regrettably, it did not happen and we did not come together.

These days, as antisemitism rears its ugly head once more, we must not forget that we hold the key that can lock it up for good, and that key is our own unity. If we turn toward each other with good intentions, we will lock antisemitism outside our world. If we keep treating each other with contempt, loathing, and conceit, as we often do today, the door to Jew-hatred will open all the way and a tsunami of antisemitism will wash upon us.

Question: Kabbalists have always talked about the education of a person. Baal HaSulam wrote that agitation is necessary to awaken fear and passion in a person if he does not feel them. You say that without education there is no chance of preventing wars. Do you mean that education involves showing a person all the horrors of war even before it starts?

Answer: No, this is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to show a person perspective. This is not just about someone getting killed or dying, but what the war leads to. There is no prospect in war, it simply devours lives and, most importantly, the time that has been given to us to correct the world.

The educational process involves showing a person in advance what this can lead to.

Question: According to Kabbalah, what do Rome and Israel represent? There has been a constant confrontation between them throughout history?

Answer: There is a contradiction between the Creator and the created being, meaning between the Creator’s thought, His behavior, His quality of bestowal and love and the nature of the created being, which only wants to receive, to be satisfied, to enjoy, and to be fulfilled in its pride, strength, knowledge, and wealth.

Therefore, the entire essence, the whole philosophy of life, of ancient Israel, the group that emerged from Ancient Babylon and became a nation, was formed on the basis of equality, “love your neighbor as yourself,” and because of this it existed in the feeling of the upper force, in the understanding of its own development and the perspective of the ultimate purpose. All this was absolutely opposite to the barbarians.

The Romans were barbarians in terms of their attitude to life because they believed that life consists of the existence of the body and nothing more. Moreover, this philosophy was planted purposely, clearly, and soberly. It contained a lot from today’s concepts of attitude to life. At one time, the philosophy of the Romans was very popular in Nazi Germany.

The Romans indeed represented the most powerful, proud, and dominating force of egoism, which believed that conquest, suppression, and enslavement are the meaning of the existence of the people.

In Israel, however, the meaning of the existence of the people was completely different. The Romans could not agree with this. Thus, two attitudes to life, two philosophies, two foundations, two ideas, collided and war began between them, a terrible resistance.

There are contacts that are friendlier and less friendly. The Jewish people did not have such a thing that they shut themselves off from others. On the contrary, come and live like us. There was even a special place for other nations in the Temple. Today there is nothing left of this.

We are talking only about the ancient peoples, Jewish and Roman. We are talking only about the Romans, not today’s Italians. It should be noted that these are completely different nations.

Question: Olesya asks: “Why does the Creator embroil [animosity] between nations? This is His doing, isn’t it?”

Answer: Undoubtedly, His. The Creator puts us at odds in order to teach us so that we understand what a nasty nature He created in us.

You see, what a trick the Creator played that He made us so low and shows it to us all the time in order for us to hate what He created in us and turn to Him. Look how it’s done! It is to Him that we turn and beg to correct us, to make us the opposite of what He made.

Question: “Make us loving” is what we should turn to Him?

Answer: Yes! That’s what I want.

Question: And only He can do this?

Answer: Only He who made us hate each other can do it.

Question: So everything revolves around Him? Absolutely everything! And I can only love someone else through Him?

Answer: Of course! Provided that you love the Creator, to that extent you will love another. And in no other way.

Question: Was there any other way to perform this scenario from His side? Is it possible to make a creation immediately loving? Immediately happy?

Answer: And what would happen in this case? Then the creation would be at the level of an animal (or plant), and it would perform some functions. But it would not feel what it is doing. It would be a machine.

Question: And here it is needed for me to have my desire, my aspiration?

Answer: Of course. Otherwise there will be nothing. Because if there is no change, growth, and evaluation of oneself and others, it will not be creation, it will not be life.

Comment: It turns out this way: The Creator deliberately created egoism in us, develops it, brings it to the point that we hate each other, enter into wars, clashes, and are ready to destroy each other so that we suddenly stop at some point and are horrified at ourselves.

My Response: We would understand that we are going toward complete destruction and that we are starting to just cut each other and consume each other alive. In actual fact! And then a revelation arises in us: Am I really such a bloodthirsty wild animal?

Why do I have such a thought? Because there is a point of new awareness. It is not just born like that. This point is called the “human” level, which is born in me. And I begin to feel: I’m like a dinosaur tearing everything up and devouring everything, and suddenly I stop. And that’s where the human begins to develop in me.

And I throw away this half-eaten corpse, sit down on a stump in the image of such a dinosaur and start thinking: “What’s going on? What am I doing? Who am I? Who is doing this to me?”, etc.

And then the appeal begins in search of the reason: Who did this to me, whom should I address? And then the search for the Creator begins.

Question: So then it’s already moving to this address —Who did all this to me? Is that the most important thing? Is our main task to reach this straight line? From this point there: Who did this to me and why is this so?

Answer: Certainly.

There were thousands of years and millions, and even billions of years when none of this happened. When it developed just the way matter develops. And when self-awareness arises in matter, then there already, in this matter, a point arises, which we then call a point in the heart. And it begins to look for the root cause—the Creator. It has a feeling of longing: I want to know who my father is. Or not the father, but the Creator. This is the beginning of the history of humanity, and not just wildlife.

Question: So our entire thousand-year history of wars, tragedies, and sufferings only leads to this point?

Answer: Sure. Millions and billions of years and all this means nothing. Everything leads only to this point.

Question: But today it wakes up in a person?

Answer: It wakes up in many. This period is special.

Comment: Yes, you and I happened to live at that time.

My Response: Yes. But we’re not done yet. So, we’ll live for a while.

Question: Do you hope that this period has come now?

Answer: I only know one thing: I don’t want to ask about anything. I want to try to do what I can. That’s all.

Question: And what is the main task you have set for yourself?

Answer: To push as many people as possible as far as possible from the present state to the goal of creation—to the connection of everyone.

The soul of a man in the next reincarnation will always be male and a female soul will always be female because male and female souls are two opposite, complementary huge blocks that cannot develop one without the other. They cannot just change because in essence they are completely different.

The female soul develops in its desires and supplies them for implementation to the male soul. The male soul must realize these desires in a way of receiving the force that corrects them both, from above, from the next degree,  and as a result of their correct interaction with the help of this third force it gives offspring—the next degree.

Therefore, there is a man, a woman, and a Creator here who, together with them, participates in the conception and birth of the next common degree.

Question: Not far from Jerusalem, there is the Kidron Valley (Emek Yeoshafat in Hebrew). This is the place where, after the War of Gog and Magog, humanity will be judged. What is it about? Who will judge whom?

Answer: When people understand what the meaning of the existence of the world, of history, of correction, of everything that has happened and is happening to them, they will judge themselves. Thus, their whole movement will be toward praising the Creator.

According to the prophecy, it is said that it is in this place that all the bodies recreated by the Creator will rise from the dust and be covered with skin and flesh. In general there will be a “resurrection of the dead.”

This means that all the existing egoistic desires will manifest themselves again in people, in the whole of humanity, in the whole future generation, but in such a way that we will be able to work with them for bestowal, for connection between us, for total love.

This is the resurrection of dead desires, dead, meaning the egoistic ones that could not be used in any way. And now we can use them for bestowal and love.
