The Torah, “Leviticus,” 15:31-33: Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile My tabernacle that is in the midst of them. This is the law of him that hath an issue, and of him from whom the flow of seed goeth out, so that he is unclean thereby;  and of her that is sick with her impurity, and of them that have an issue, whether it be a man, or a woman; and of him that lieth with her that is unclean.

These laws must be observed since otherwise you may be infected by the impure desires. It isn’t that they exist in you or that you haven’t discovered them, but as long as you use them, you spread this infection inside you, and then it is more difficult to examine the next desires and to distinguish between the pure desires and the impure ones, which means those that are aimed at the benefit of others and those that are aimed at your own benefit and at harming others. Therefore, we should accurately differentiate our desires, separate and correct them, and use them in order to ascend. If a person doesn’t do it properly, he will not be able to ascend spiritually.

All the actions that are described in the Torah and on which levels you perform them are accordingly essential. They are general, since they reoccur on every level but in a slightly different format: narrower, more internal, more refined.
