M. Weisman, “The Midrash Says” (Chapter Shemini), “The Eighth”: Before entering the Mishkan (“Tabernacle” – the presence of the Creator), Nadav and Avihu drank wine with everyone in order to commemorate that joyful day.
The question is how they could not comply with the proper revelation of the Creator.
When a person is about to perform spiritual work of getting closer to a more sublime state, he has to prepare for it consistently. He must have the attribute of bestowal, the attribute of receiving, the right intention, the connection with all these attributes, at least with the people. At the same time, he must connect to the upper level, while being in its lower part.
In the case of Nadav and Avihu, however, they make one mistake after another, as if there were racing mindlessly.
But this is done on purpose from Above. When a person receives additional egoism, exceeding his abilities, he loses his wisdom completely. He falls and performs everything under the influence of his growing ego, which covers his eyes, saying: “I want!”
