Close Your Eyes to Everything Except Unity

938.04Question: Something constantly prevents a person and the ten from remaining in prayer. Then you start to search and ask yourself: “Why didn’t you ask?” But is it possible not to search for what’s disturbing me and instead learn to take pleasure and delight in the prayer itself?

Answer: To do that you must ask and turn to the Creator. Only in this way will He respond to you.

Question: How can we find that point and eradicate what keeps us from being in prayer?

Answer: I think your folly is that you do not want to close your eyes to everything except unity and from the point of unity turn to the Creator. He always responds to such a desire.

Gather All Wishes and Requests

939.01Question: Each of us has many different qualities, states, and desires, and it seems impossible to come to a common prayer. Should we focus on what we want to ask the Creator for together, or on Whom we are addressing and before Whom we stand?

Answer: It’s the same thing. You all stand together before the Creator. And if you gather all your wishes, prayers, and requests, He will surely hear them.

You can find your connection with the Creator and your connection with the entire world group, and these will essentially be one and the same connection. It will be one unified Kli in which you discover yourselves, your unity, and your bond with the Creator.

What Should a True Prayer Be Like?

938.03Question: Is prayer the result of the efforts we invest?

Answer: Yes, it is. But we cannot judge it directly. Yet if we truly feel how we unite with one another and sense the heart of the Creator, that will be the result of our efforts.

Question: What should a true prayer be like in order to receive a response from the Creator?

Answer: A prayer for connection with the Creator, for adhesion with Him, for Him to truly be your Creator.

I believe that we must feel our interconnection. Then our collective prayer will help each one sense that they are within the heart of the Creator.

Questions about Spiritual Work—265

281.02Question: What kind of prayer should it be if I need to give my heart to the ten, but it feels like a stone?

Answer: Then your prayer should be such that it dissolves the stony heart, turns it into a living one, and the Creator fills it.

Question: It is said, “Better death than such a life,” referring to a person driven to despair by his suffering. But the sources speak of spiritual suffering, not material. How can we transform material suffering in the heart into spiritual suffering?

Answer: If we understand what life and suffering mean, then it is not difficult to imagine what spiritual life and spiritual suffering are. That is within our power.

Question: Can a prayer exist without a request, as pure gratitude?

Answer: Yes, a prayer may consist only of gratitude.

Question: Is prayer a person’s private address to the Creator or is it an address from the unity of the ten?

Answer: It is your collective appeal to the Creator, one for which you seek a shared response.

In Search of the Common Heart

963.6Question: Many tens, especially new groups, are trying to understand what the right prayer should be. What would you advise them?

Answer: We need to open our hearts to one another, fill the hearts of others through us, and unite them. Then we will receive one unified heart with one unified intention, and the Creator will surely feel it. He will turn to us and fill us with His light.

Question: So they should be seeking this common heart, this shared Hissaron, day by day?

Answer: Of course. I would even say every second, every moment.

We must feel that we are connected in one unified heart, which the Creator raises higher and higher.

We Must Feel the Creator

938.05

Question: Rabash and Baal HaSulam constantly write in their articles that only the Creator can help us. Each of us spends years trying to persuade, plead, or pressure the Creator in every possible way until we reach a state of disappointment in our own strength and come to a true plea from the depths of the heart. But that is a personal effort.

And now we all want to reach the state of “one unified heart.” What is the depth of this heart from which a true common prayer is born?

Answer: The unified heart is a unified desire that each of you, each one of you in particular, connects with the hearts of the others. You raise this collective desire to the Creator so that He would take it and begin to work with it.

I believe we are moving correctly and are close to this. Perhaps in this congress we will already feel the connection of the Creator with us.

Question: So we may feel it or we may not?

Answer: No, we must feel Him. We are practically already in Him, and we must feel Him in such a way that through our greater or smaller desires, through our connections with one another, we begin to interact with Him, that is, manage our connection with Him.

Question: When a person receives a true, stable connection with the Creator, can he mistake it for something else?

Answer: In general, no.

To Make Our Hearts Like the Creator’s

938.02Question: Besides uniting at congresses, raising a common prayer, working in tens and dissemination, attending lessons, and reading the sources, what else can we as a community and as individuals do to bring Israel to correction and become an example for the whole world?

Answer: We must ask the Creator for unity, to show us the unified point of connection among us so that we always have such a center of connection, and that only this would be important to us.

Question: How can we now make our hearts similar to the Creator’s so that He may dwell in our shared heart?

Answer: We need to imagine the connection between our hearts, and from this collective heart, raise a prayer.

In principle, it is not so far from us. Let’s try to do it together and discover where else we can draw closer to one another.

Unite in a Common Desire

942Question: We try so hard to unite our desires that we often get confused. Should we somehow soften our hearts so that they can unite or should we make our common aspiration so strong that it breaks through the boundary between us?

Answer: At one time I used to write down the demands that arose in me while reading the articles without yet knowing how it would be possible to unite all these desires, directions, and intentions together with the friends and become included in them, until I felt that it is precisely our common desire that can unite us with one another and with the Creator.

You now have all the opportunities for this. Nothing else is needed except to imagine that you are connected with one another and with the Creator.

Work with What the Creator Sends

282.02Question: Can we say that the Kli (vessel) of a ten becomes included in an even greater Kli?

Answer: Undoubtedly. All Kelim (vessels) are included within one another.

Question: So does that mean the ten itself shouldn’t really exist separately, but should merge into others?

Answer: Don’t dictate what “should” be! From what you feel, you must understand that this is what the Creator is sending you, and that is what you must work with.

In the Connection Between Us

942Question: RABASH writes that the purpose of the group is that the Shechina should dwell among us. How can we picture this: everyone the same, or each in his own way?

Answer: Each in his own way. But still, it is precisely the connection between us that then turns into connection with the Creator.

Question: And how is this connected with awe before the Creator?

Answer: Awe is that feeling which we discover in the connection between us.
