All sciences, except Kabbalah, work within a small Light that can be obtained in receiving desires without correction. So our entire world exists without the intention for bestowal.

But this is a very limited glow, a barely smoldering spark of life that allows desires to exist just waiting until the time of correction.

In our time, the Light has almost filled all desires. Therefore, science is in crisis, and has reached a dead end. There are no more breakthroughs in science; everything is fading. We only find connections between various phenomena. Humanity is allowed to discover this because it leads to the understanding that our world is closed, round, global, and integral.

So we must be connected with each other and with all of nature. Only in this direction does science develop and reveal our common relationship to us. But beyond that, there will be no scientific development. Only technology will develop, not the fundamental sciences. Scientists have been talking about this for many years.

We have completely exhausted our desire to enjoy that we can exist in. Now only its perverted forms are possible. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries before the Great Depression in America, we used such incentives as money and power to advance for.

Then, it ended. Today, we simply earn abstract numbers in accounts, and money also is losing its value. History is coming to a close. In other words, we are becoming aware of the need for correction.

However, there will be no more material development due to the Light of Hochma entering into this world’s desires. As a result, people will experience disappointment, depression, and a global crisis in all areas of human activity.

Question: I am a psychologist and I see that Kabbalah and social psychology have much in common, for example, the rules of the workshop. Did you take them from psychology or do you have such methods in Kabbalah?

Answer: Psychology appeared a little more than 100 years ago, at the end of the 19^th century.

Kabbalah appeared 5,778 years ago. So, it was not Kabbalah that took something from psychology, but psychology and especially philosophy, as Baal HaSulam wrote, borrowed a lot from Kabbalah. That is why psychologists think that Kabbalah took some methods from them.

Everything happened the other way around because Kabbalistic books were written two, three, and four thousand years ago. Moreover, if you penetrate into what Kabbalah says, which supposedly looks similar to social psychology, you will find out that it is an absolutely different system.

After all, the method of Kabbalah leads a person to correction under the influence of the upper force, the upper Light. All our exercises, studies, meals, and everything else are for this purpose.

Psychology is different. It uses the person’s ordinary, inner egoistic forces. Therefore, we see that it began to fade out as quickly as it emerged.

Question: It is very difficult for people to perceive the difference between the wisdom of Kabbalah and psychology and philosophy. Can you explain the difference?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah talks about the structure of the system of creation that is based upon opposites and the connection between two forces: the properties of bestowal and reception, the positive force and the negative force, and the material that exists between them that is managed by the two forces.

This method explains the four phases of the extension of the Ohr Yashar (Direct Light – the characteristic of bestowal) on the property of reception and how both properties interact with each other, producing different variations of integration of all the forces, elements. Kabbalah proceeds from the most simple, true, elementary beginning and explains how everything is extended and developed into our world.

Psychology and philosophy have nothing to do with this. Kabbalah is not a speculative science, it is immensely logical. A person who is involved with it, even if he or she doesn’t feel these forces or doesn’t reveal the upper world, the knowledge is still very interesting.

Therefore, many come and just study Kabbalah as a theoretical science even though they don’t understand what is spoken about. And there are people who want to develop themselves and master the wisdom in a practical way. Everything depends on the goals a person pursues.

We teach both these and those. It doesn’t matter to us why a person studies Kabbalah, we teach him or her everything. The first course “The Structure of the Upper World” includes the study of the system of creation. The second course “Practical Attainment of the Upper World” includes a person’s work in a group.

In principle, the wisdom of Kabbalah is designed to elevate a person above the egoism that prevents us from uniting, and psychology teaches a person how to get along within egoism. Psychology and philosophy cannot go beyond egoism.

Question: The goals of the wisdom of Kabbalah and psychology are different. The goal of the wisdom of Kabbalah is to discover the Creator, and the goal of psychology is to get along better in our world. But the means are very similar. Both of them use work in a group, the influence of the environment, etc. What is unique in the wisdom of Kabbalah that is not found in psychology?

Answer: Group psychology is the study of how to connect people into a single collective. This is needed everywhere: institutions, schools, governments, and even the family. But they deal with connection on the level of normal psychology.

First, Kabbalistic psychology requires that there will be no more than ten people in a group.

Second, it is desirable for groups to be arranged according to gender, either men or women.

Third, the connection is achieved not through typical group psychology but through the upper Light. Unity like this happens on a completely different level: not on a psychological level, but rather on a spiritual level.

The difference is that on a psychological level, the connection is based on the benefit one receives from connecting with other people, since such a connection can help a person with regard to relaxation, security, sustenance, health, a better family life, a better atmosphere at work, in school etc. It can make a big difference in a person’s life and reduce his suffering.

On the other hand, Kabbalistic psychology is based on a different method: the attraction of the upper Light. We don’t try to connect with each other; rather, we call the upper Light onto ourselves, which connects us above our egoism into altruistic relationships with each other.

For example, I don’t connect with you in order to create our own small business. Instead, with the help of the upper Light—a unique spiritual energy that exists all around us—we build a common unity above us. We summon it through certain activities so that this energy, called Ohr Makif (Surrounding Light, which is invisible and not felt by us), acts upon us and connects us above our egoism. Then, our connection becomes altruistic and spiritual; within it we begin to feel the upper world and the Creator.

Question: What kind of feeling does a person experience when he calls the upper Light onto himself?

Answer: As it is said: “We live without feeling the ground beneath us…” You dwell within your friends; you adhere to them. Your egoistic salvation exists within them, but when this is realized, you are no longer an egoist. Thus, the wisdom of Kabbalah and psychology differ not only in the goal, but also in the means of achieving it. We don’t take anything from this world.

Question: We say that the wisdom of Kabbalah awakens people. Maybe we shouldn’t disturb their sleep?

Answer: This is exactly what Pharaoh said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt: “What are you awakening the people for? Let the people work peacefully and quietly. What do you want from them? See how good they feel and how comfortable they live. I created a paradise on Earth for them.”

Egypt truly was an egoistic paradise for them. Suddenly Moses came along and started bothering them, telling them they must leave and go into the wilderness!

Question: So we can’t touch people prematurely? We need to leave everything to the Creator? He is the law of nature and He will awaken everyone? Will the time come and people will be awakened?

Answer: We don’t touch anyone. We just disseminate the wisdom of Kabbalah to those who need it.

The freedom of man is in the ascent above our world. There are completely different conceptual bases. By changing the system of measurement, we look at life differently and change the value system.

Therefore, the concept of freedom is specifically in an elevation above our egoistic world where only the characteristic of bestowal and love exists, which is the characteristic of the Creator. That is what we must achieve and then we will talk, investigate, and discuss things correctly.

In contrast to this, all of the materialistic philosophies no longer provide any benefit. They are limited to the framework of human nature. For some time, philosophy has already exhausted itself there. Moreover, all the sciences are rounding out and gradually ending their development because humanity has achieved the final state of its development and later the attainment of freedom will be waiting for it.

Question: I know from my experience that studying Kabbalah is very helpful in the work of a psychologist. Does a professional knowledge of psychology and psychiatry help or hinder advancement in the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: It doesn’t help at all. Either you are dealing with standard reactions that go on in the beast called a “human being” and trying to balance these with the influences that it receives in this world, or you are dealing with the upper world. It is one of the two.

I do not know what you mean by “Kabbalah” and how you can use it, I also do not want in any way to diminish your spiritual degree. It could be that you have an initial theoretical knowledge that helps you adapt to reality, but psychology speaks about how to get along in this world, while the wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about how to rise up from this world.

It is the same thing with physicists. I often meet with scientists and am interested in all the achievements, but in general we have nothing to say to each other because we have different instruments for perceiving the world.

I can’t imagine how a psychologist could use Kabbalah in daily, practical work. Maybe only by telling a person that everything that acts on you comes from the Creator, so don’t worry everything will be fine.

 However, this is Kabbalistic psychology. It is not intended to calm a person down, but rather, advance the person.

Remark: There are many psychologists taking our Kabbalah courses. One of the lectures is even dedicated to explaining the difference between Kabbalah and psychology because it is not readily apparent.

My Comment: Psychology deals with a person’s behavior—with an egoistic being of our world. It studies the ways he reacts to things that happen to him.

Kabbalah deals with revealing who influences a person, what happens to him and what under influence, how he should prepare for his reaction, and so on. That is, this is a completely different level.

A Kabbalist and a psychologist have not only different goals, but also different audiences. One deals with ordinary people in our world and the other with people who study Kabbalah.

Question: Do you think that one who is attracted to common earthly psychology will not be drawn to Kabbalah?

Answer: Let him study psychology and not confuse it with Kabbalah. It will only harm him.

Question: Does a Kabbalist understand people better than everyone else?

Answer: No. A Kabbalist is not a psychologist. He does not look at people’s personalities, it does not interest him.

Conventional psychology is the psychology of our animal egoism. It is unanimously not considered a science because a person’s inner egoistic world cannot be known. We can deduce some patterns through purely experimental means, but nothing more.

Baal HaSulam appreciated psychology because it allows a person to break away from idealistic, religious psychology, which assures us that after death we can attain the future world.

In principle, this must be understood. When a person’s body dies, his egoism does not disappear, it simply loses a certain thickness of its egoistic desire. The desire remains, but not in an absolutely egoistic, earthly form.

Corporeal psychology gives a person a sound foundation with which one can correctly and maturely view the world. After all, the most important approach in Kabbalah is that a person has no more than what his eyes can see, and this is how he should relate to everything. Therefore, Kabbalah is a precise, mature, and sober science, without any philosophizing and psychologies.

In the News (USA Today): “Money can’t buy happiness, but $1.56 million can buy Albert Einstein’s happiness theory.

“Two notes written by the famous physicist recently sold for well above their expected value at a Jerusalem auction house.

“During Einstein’s trip to Japan in 1922 to receive the Nobel Prize in physics, he wrote notes on how to live a fulfilling life while staying at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. When a messenger delivered something to his room, the German-born physicist gave him two of the autographed notes, because he didn’t have a tip available. Einstein said the notes could be worth more than a tip one day. He was right.

“One note, written in German translates to: ‘A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness.’

“It was expected to sell for between $5,000 and $8,000, according to the Winner’s Auctions and Exhibitions website. Instead, a bidding war lasting about 25 minutes ended in a sale of $1.56 million, the Associated Press reports.

“The second note, which read ‘where there’s a will there’s a way,’ sold for $240,000, far above it’s estimated value of between $4,000 and $6,000.”

Question: How do such things suddenly become so valuable?

Answer: The value is not in the thought. It was already in the air; it had already been heard. The thought put on a piece of paper is deemed valuable only by the people in the market for such things. It’s the same as any painting. Works of art do not have value in and of themselves. The value is determined by what people are willing to pay for them.

Question: A note from Einstein is worth $1.5 million, but few people know that great Kabbalists had many notes, many pieces of advice for humanity about how to achieve happiness. However, those notes are not worth anything. Isn’t that sad?

Answer: No, I’m not sad, quite the opposite. This is very good because people do not understand anything, even in what Einstein wrote, not to mention what is written in the notes of the Kabbalists. However, they chase after notes from Einstein because these notes have value as collectibles, an egoistic value, and our notes don’t have any egoistic value, and therefore, they are available to everyone.

Only those who really need them will find them and understand.

Question: And for him, will they be more valuable than millions, even more valuable than life?

Answer: Of course. What did Einstein write? With all my respect to him as a person who achieved much, his thoughts still did not rise above the animal level of humanity.
