Generations X, Y, and Z, Part 3

laitman_229Question: How does external influence affect the character of a generation and shape it?

Answer: Human egoism is like clay or dough from which a society can mold anything.

Question: Doesn’t the character of a generation depend on its egoism?

Answer: Egoism only determines how pliable this material is. Once, it is molded from clay, then sculpted from marble, and later, even more complex materials are used for construction. Today, mostly plastic is used.

The distinction is all in the material, and what to build and how is determined by the generation. But, the material itself, suitable for construction, comes from within, from the developing desire to enjoy.

Question: The older generation created all the innovations that had not existed before in the world, and the next generations enter a world in which everything is as it is. Is that perhaps why the younger generation is not very impressed with material values?

Answer: Young people are not impressed with material values, and they have nothing to add to the world of material things. It would seem, what will they do? But, this is just like after Newton’s physics where everything was already known. Einstein suddenly came and opened new dimensions.

The same is true here. We built all kinds of devices, but the next generation has the opportunity to create new programs for them, to get inside the matter, inside the genome, into the source of life, inside the brain and above it. They still have a lot of work.

As a student, I worked in the field of medical cybernetics at an institute engaged in the study of blood and the brain. But, this is nothing compared to modern instruments and research facilities. The research went far into the interior: inside the cell, inside the brain, the psychology of man, and beyond the boundaries of the mind. It breaks through and beyond the borders of human life.

These studies still refer to the material, but they are approaching the border of the spiritual world, and we are gradually losing touch with matter. This information is from the border zone and over the matter.

The egoism of modern man is more developed and complex. It is destined to perceive the deepest mysteries of life. And for him, they seem quite natural and ordinary. A person is no longer impressed with the tools that fall into his hands, but he is looking for what can be achieved with their help.

The baby boomer generation built a material base, the equipment. The next generation created a program for it. The youngest generation will now use all of this.

Question: And what will the new generation have to do? Where are we going?

Answer: I think that the next generation will enter the reality that we will reveal at the expense of all of our previous development, and they will live in it. They should reveal the spiritual world. The challenge of the next generation is to move from computers and the study of matter to its forces. Deeper inside the material, through it, we reach the forces that govern it, and there we will continue our research.

Question: What will young people be impressed with in a decade?

Answer: It seems to me, with nothing. The younger the generation, the more difficult it is to be touched by something. Their egoism is so subtle that it is not impressed by anything tangible in this world. They need to uncover higher sources of influence on themselves and, perhaps, they will impress them. The usual fulfillments—food, sex, family, money, honor, and knowledge—are no longer important to the modern generation.

It is clear that it is necessary to satisfy the essential needs of the body, but beyond the necessary, a young man will want to be in the world of the managing program, in the world of forces, above the material, where matter comes into play in the large computer of creation called the “spiritual world.”

Letters And Sefirot

laitman_923Question: Why do the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet begin from the level of Bina?

Answer: Bina operates until its middle under the influence of Keter, and from its middle onward it wants to resemble Keter, so it develops everything by itself.

It receives the attributes to bestow from Keter and in order to implement them and to resemble Keter, it begins to bestow unto the lower, just like Keter.

Because nine Sefirot descend from Keter, the first nine letters develop from Bina, (nine Sefirot the last part of Bina).

The next nine Sefirot belong to Zeir Anpin.

The last four letters, Kof, Resh, Shin, and Taf belong to Malchut. All together there are 22 letters, 22 forms of bestowal of the upper force unto Malchut.

In Malchut there are five additional letters. These are special letters of the 22 letters which create their final forms in Malchut. All together there are 27 letters of the alphabet.

There Is No Knowledge Higher Than Kabbalah

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: My wife is wondering why it is necessary for me to study Kabbalah and not something else?

Answer: You are studying Kabbalah because you like it, and you cannot live without this study. You want to discover and know the structure of the upper world and attain the meaning of existence. This is very important for you. Explain this to her. If she loves you, she should understand you.

There is nothing higher than studying the wisdom of Kabbalah, and there is no knowledge that is higher.

Master Of Your Destiny

Laitman_709Request from Facebook: I understood that our world is branches and they have roots. I read a lot of information about our world being managed, that the human brain gets orders from outside. Please explain about the law of branch and root, if it is possible and not complicated.

Answer: According to the law of branch and root, all the signals of control, all the orders, are created at a higher level than this world. Our world is a world of deeds. The upper world is a system of management in which the orders for our world are created and we carry them out subconsciously, even without realizing it. We suddenly feel that some thought, some kind of desire, action, result, or event appears. There is nothing that just happens in nature; everything is closed and everything is rational.

The question is whether there is a link back, a response that returns to the higher management, which we can replace. It is reasonable that this is so.

The more that we become like the higher management, the better the orders are that begin to descend upon us because the higher management will have no need to break us. Our nature and the nature of the higher management will become closer to each other, and then the orders will enter into us in a very logical and orderly manner.

We will begin to carry them out easily and smoothly and will act in accordance with the higher management. To do this, it is up to us to change our nature from a receptive and egoistic nature to a bestowing and altruistic nature.

The nature of the upper world and all of creation is like that, except for humans. A human is an egoist, while all the rest of nature is not. He is mutually connected to one single system and we must become integrated with it.

The wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about this. If we gradually begin to integrate into nature, then we see how all actions and events, all the orders from the higher management will be more pleasant and desirable for us.

Comment: Now almost all scientists say that we are found within a matrix, that our brain is managed, but they don’t know anything beyond that….

My Comment: They don’t understand this system, they don’t feel it.

The wisdom of Kabbalah is good at this because it emotionally inserts the person into the feeling of the higher system and then he understands that he can ascend and enter into its “managerial cell.” In any case, people will be obliged to do this, but the wisdom of Kabbalah will make it possible for them to realize it smoothly and rapidly, without waiting for tragic awakenings from above.

A Guest And A Host, Malchut And Keter

laitman_600_04Question: Baal HaSulam has a very nice example about a guest and a host. Can you please explain the example with regard to the ten Sefirot?

Answer: We cannot feel the shared experiences of the guest and the host yet, when the host, through spiritual states, fills the guest through his desire and at the same time with his attitude.

If the host had wanted only to please the guest, he would have created only a desire in him and would have filled it. Such a desire is called the still, vegetative, or animate nature and the guest would have had no other feelings.

The moment other feelings emerge in the guest, he begins to feel the host not simply like a dog who feels his master, but actually him as the one who bestows and himself as the one who receives.

This is not enough since the host wants the guest to enjoy and bestows unto him with all His heart. This is the reason that the feeling of shame does not emerge immediately in the guest; his attributes have to be further developed until they are expressed in the eight Sefirot in Malchut. Then he is able to feel the Sefira of Keter and to understand that he is different from the host and that he cannot receive because then he would be opposed to and opposite from the host in his attributes.

This is a problem. If I receive, I am opposed to and opposite from Him, detached and different from Him. While He is high, bestows, a source of pleasure and loving, I am so lowly that I love only what I receive and I am totally immersed in it.

Thus the feeling of Keter (the host) appears in Malchut and the feeling of itself, and it cannot tolerate that. Not knowing what to do, it simply refuses to accept.

There are different emotional explanations of the state in which Malchut begins to feel all the Sefirot that preceded it, the whole attitude of the host, of the Creator, to it, and so naturally it restricts itself and ceases to receive. This is its first move.

Having swallowed the Light, Malchut begins to perceive the attributes of Keter, of what is concealed in it. It begins to feel that by receiving, it becomes opposite from the Light. The Light bestows absolutely whereas Malchut receives absolutely, and thus the feeling of shame, which was intentionally created by the Creator, emerges in it, and it is so great that it causes Malchut to cease to receive. This is called Tzimtzum – Restriction.

The Masach Is The Power Of Thought

laitman_610_3Question: According to what measurement unit do we measure our mind power in the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: Our mind power is called Masach (screen). The measurement unit we use is the Aviut (thickness) of the Masach.

Question: Can I correct a certain state through the power of thought and thus impact a certain person?

Answer: Only if you have a Masach with Aviut; the Aviut of the desire is power.

Question: Can an egoistic power of thought be harmful? Is there such a thing as the evil eye?

Answer: It is possible to inflict the evil eye through our mind power, and it is possible to heal. However, the point is not such games. We should understand how we can create positive movement in the world through the tools we were given; the movement of the whole system is called the general soul.

Who Is Predisposed To The Wisdom Of Kabbalah?

Dr. Michael LaitmanMan is created in utter wickedness and lowliness, as it is written, “When a wild ass’s foal is born a man.” And all the vessels in one’s body, meaning the senses and the qualities, and especially the thought serve him only wickedness and nothingness all day. (The Book of Zohar, “VaYera” ).

This is how we are created from birth, and today this is revealed in all of humanity.

We have students in Australia, New Zealand, Africa, South and North America, Europe, Russia, China, Japan, and other countries. This shows that the world has already come to a state where people are really capable of perceiving a spiritual uplift. Their earthly egoism has reached the level from which one can push off and rise upward.

Those Kelim (vessels) that had the biggest deficiencies become the most important. It means that the measure of revelation in them is the biggest.

This is natural. If a person has great egoism, he will reveal more. However, we need to understand what it means. For example, a person aspiring to become a billionaire usually is not predisposed to the wisdom of Kabbalah.

It attracts a person who has an expert point inside, with the help of which he can immediately say whether it is worth for him to do this in his life or not. He detects this not in his mind, but in the inner sensations, in the feelings.

A person comes to Kabbalah because he understands that he needs to search for something very internal; he is concerned about the meaning of life and not about money, fame, or honor. This already requires a completely different answer.

How To Read The Book Of Zohar Correctly

Laitman_065Question: How does one read The Book of Zohar correctly, and what is the order of reading?

Answer: The Book of Zohar must be read with commentaries; in fact, without them, it is impossible to understand it.

A few years ago, during group work, we published a book that was prepared for the people and that is also what we called it, Zohar for the People. As a result of this work, today everyone can read the book and understand it. We translated the text from Aramaic to Hebrew and “simplified” the text without distorting it.

Originally, the structure of The Book of Zohar was divided into several parts: the text itself, the commentary on the text, and so forth. We united the different parts in a harmonious way into a single text that is divided into numbered sections, making it possible to read it easily and continuously.

Zohar for the People is material that has been well processed, translated, not only into the Hebrew language, but also into Russian and English. I very much recommend becoming familiar with the book and trying to start studying it.

The lessons that we learn from the book Zohar for the People begin to be felt by the students present in a lesson as a definite “spiritual stream” that passes through them. The book works on them from within and washes egoistic thoughts and calculations out of them.

Reward And Punishment In Our Lives, Part 2

laitman_571_08Kabbalists do not perceive rewards and punishment as the general public does; they view them as reactions to them from the system. This is why they calmly receive any criticism or accusation as the system trying to help them to advance.

They do not attribute it to some specific individual, but only to the general system. And so the accusations that may seem to another as punishment, to a Kabbalist represent the material with which to work until it is experienced as a reward.

Question: How can it be considered a reward when a person is accused or shamed?

Answer: For many years now I have also been criticized, accused of deceit and a desire for power. But I understand that this criticism does not come from specific people who have some kind of freewill, but from the system. And therefore, I must receive this criticism in order to feel myself in exile.

Their behavior is appropriate because they help me in my correction, and as I progress toward correction, I feel these negative manifestations as positive. And if I feel them as negative, it is only because I am still not corrected in my certain inner qualities.

In other words, rewards and punishments from a natural and egoistic perception are entirely opposite to what is perceived by one who desires to advance, and is, therefore, relating to them above his own egoism.

For this reason, people who want to free themselves of their egoism, perceive all negative criticism toward them as a gift, given to them in the form of an opportunity to rise and to turn punishments into rewards because this means that the system is paying attention to me, gently and with care, as a mother raising a small child and teaching him good behavior.

Question: Like a mother who gives her child healthy food instead of a can of soda?

Answer: Yes, to receive blows is very healthy. They should not trigger resistance or defensive accusations, but rather an analysis: What specifically is triggering me, what are these qualities, thoughts, and desires in me? All these I need to correct in the exact place where I am experiencing the blow.

This is precisely what I need in order to rise from my egoistic state. If I feel the blow there, it means that there is still a calculation for personal benefit and I need to rise to a higher-level calculation.

Question: But don’t you want to receive a positive reaction from others?

Answer: I want to receive a positive reaction as an indicator that this quality in me has reached correction, not because I want to see that others around me became corrected. It is written, “Each judges according to their own flaws”, so when I correct myself, I will no longer experience blows. The system is built in such a way that then no one will criticize or accuse me any longer.

Decide For Yourself

Laitman_101Question: To be honest, I do not want to study Kabbalah. But I have no choice because I feel I will not be left alone. Or am I wrong?

Answer: I don’t know. Try to quit. If it works—fine. If it doesn’t work, then make the final decision and come back. It is useless to run back and forth, study a little, and let go for some time. I would like to make it sharp: it is not worth it. It is no use starting, getting disappointed, and blaming Kabbalah instead of correcting yourself.

Studying the wisdom of Kabbalah has certain conditions. If you want to get into it, you must meet these conditions. If not, you should quit it, the sooner—the better.

Remark: But I have a feeling that if I do not study Kabbalah, the Creator will punish me.

Answer: There is nothing to fear! The Creator never punishes anybody for anything.

But you have a great opportunity to discover the upper world. Is it really not worth it?! What do you have in this world?! Another 20, 30, 40 years will pass… and that is all!

And here eternity is opening in front of you. You do not feel how you move from one world to another. You drop your body like a rocket drops its stages, and you keep flying.
