The Method for Emerging from the Global Crisis

263The wisdom of Kabbalah is a method for uniting people. It teaches that first and foremost a person must correct themselves, and then everything they do will be for the benefit of others.

If we try to unite according to our natural inner impulses without correcting ourselves first, conflicts and problems begin to arise.

The wisdom of Kabbalah explains how to unite correctly. That is why it is so important for us, especially in our time, when families are breaking apart, friendships are dissolving, and people increasingly strive to live alone. When they do unite, it is often for egoistic reasons, which eventually lead to explosions of conflict and divorce.

Egoism has grown so much that we now need to learn the method of true connection. Psychologists and sociologists cannot fully explain why this is happening. Recently, however, they have begun to conclude that this is a global trend throughout the world, and they find themselves confused by it.

The wisdom of Kabbalah must reveal itself in the modern world as a method of positive and benevolent unity. It is needed wherever humanity discovers its inability to unite in a good way and begins to break connections.

As a result, we see divorces in families, quarrels among children, severe fights in schools, conflicts between parents and children, and tensions in the workplace between employers and employees.

Conflicts occur everywhere: between countries, in international politics, within every state, and between political parties. Within any nation there is a clash of many contradictory opinions, movements, and factions.

Soon we will feel completely disconnected, torn apart, and distant from one another. The fragmentation will reach such proportions that a person will feel so many conflicting desires even within themselves that they will become confused and will lose inner peace and balance.

Humanity will feel complete despair and helplessness, and this crisis is gradually developing step by step. In some countries it appears more strongly, in others less so for now. But disconnection spreads like an epidemic and will eventually encompass the entire world.

It will become so great that no person will know how to properly connect with others. An inner blockage will appear, i.e., a lack of understanding and lack of feeling. That is why the wisdom of Kabbalah is being revealed: It is meant to unite people into one human being with one heart. It has the power to do so.
Without connection between us, without proper communication, our development will come to a halt.

We can already see symptoms of this degradation in the world, judging by what is happening with the younger generation: the growing distance between men and women who no longer want to create families or have children, and the increasing popularity of drugs. A person wants to withdraw inward and feel the external world as little as possible because there is nothing pleasant in it.

Therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah which deals precisely with the correct connection between people will become highly demanded and necessary for everyone.

When Will the War End?

79.01Question: Is it really possible that there are wars in spirituality too? I always thought that there was only love there.

Answer: From the beginning of the worlds to the very end, the entire reality, except for the single Creator, the one upper force of love, is built on the struggle of opposites, that is, on war. The Creator is attained by us through the attainment of love as the absolute annulment of hatred, war, and opposition, that is, in the complete annulment of each one before the others. In this way we form the image of the Creator within us. We create Him. As it is said: “You have made Me.”

Question: Are you talking about the war within each person? Is this the spiritual war?

Answer: Yes, the external war exists only on the animate level.

Question: You once said that external wars occur because we haven’t waged our internal wars properly, and therefore the external wars appear. Can you explain this a little more? Does it mean that I did not see my war to its end?

Answer: I should have fought. I should have resisted. I should have stood and led the forces of light against the forces of darkness within me. And thus I should have seen how I was moving the world toward a state of connection, closeness, and love among all its opposite parts. And thus I bring the state of war to the state of true peace.

Peace is Shalom, from Shlemut, complete wholeness, full unification (Hashlama). Somehow I did not complete this work somewhere, and therefore I allowed it to manifest even in the lowest form in this physical world.

Question: So now, in order to stop this external war, must I return again to my internal wars?

Answer: I must do it, and everyone must do it because the external war exists only in order to push us toward internal connection.

Question: So resolving the war by external forces, when someone wins and someone loses, is not a real solution?

Answer: Of course not.

Question: Then will there be another war?

Answer: Of course! Nothing is solved this way. It is only a step along the road, along the path, about how to continue the next page of the war.

Question: Will the next page of the war come one way or another? And maybe it will be even more terrible?

Answer: Of course, more terrible. The most important thing is that at the beginning of a conflict, we quickly determine what it is about and extinguish it by uniting and complementing the conflicting sides in such a way that they reveal the Creator.

Question: Suppose there are two conflicting sides that hate each other. How can they suddenly stop at the beginning of the conflict?

Answer: By rising above themselves, by rising above one another, and by imagining what the world should be like if they unite together so much that they no longer distinguish between each other, but only sense the connection between them.

Add Up the Opposites

254.01Question: You perceive all the processes taking place differently than how they appear in the picture of this world. You said that you have perceived a crisis for a long time, but it still has not manifested itself physically, that is, in the external world. How is this possible? What is this process and why is there such a delay?

Answer: Baal HaSulam explains this in many of his articles. He says that there is an action called “descending from above” and an action called “receiving from below.”

All sorts of commands, actions, and phenomena descend upon us from above. But while they are realized in our perception and while we are conscious of them, a certain amount of time passes. Therefore, there is a delay between descending from above and receiving from below.

Since a Kabbalist is on a level above our world, he sees forces descending into our world, and therefore believes that something needs to be done quickly. And the rest of the people are still in a drunken stupor; they say: “Everything is fine. Why are you panicking there?”

That is how it turns out that a Kabbalist show up, hurries, an shouts like Baal HaSulam 20 years before the Second World War. He said that Jews should escape from Poland, soon Hitler would conquer it.

Messing and other people even warned about this. But no one listened to them, they were silenced, considered enemies of the people, and so on.

I once talked to a major Israeli figure, a man of great culture, a strong industrialist who is very concerned about the future. At one time, he met with the President of the United States and talked with him about the need to quickly change the world, educate people, and encourage them to be kind and loving to each other. But the President didn’t understand anything.

Such an advanced, well-respected politician completely misunderstood him. It is not that I didn’t understand it, but I thought it would be good to do so. This is not the way to go. That is, people still don’t understand.

And they are right, because they act based on what is in our world. Why would they listen to some kind of “mystics,” even though the environment has been faltering for a long time, and everything else is falling apart.

Will they really pay attention to some Kabbalists who wag their fingers at them and say that it is necessary to change relationships in society, to change the social environment in the world? They won’t do it. They don’t have the necessary tools, influence, or upbringing for this.

We see what happens to our children. These are the most precious creatures to our hearts, but we leave them to their fate; as the street or school educates them, so it will be. As a result, we get drugs, promiscuity, emptiness, and complete lack of purpose in life. That is why humanity sees its future so bleakly.

But we don’t even need to correct ourselves, the main thing is that if we could correct the children, guide them correctly, then at least the future generation would live well. We, as adults who love them so much, cannot properly and soberly look at what is happening. This is so stupid! The Creator gives us some kind of clouding from above. If you unfold this whole picture, how can parents treat their children’s future like this?!

The whole education system, the whole world community, has launched this. Everyone raises their hands: “Well, my children will be like that too. What can I do?” They have the same answer as the politicians and say we don’t have the means to correct people.

Therefore, we are heading toward states where suffering will accumulate to such an extent that humanity will howl because it will not be able to hide from problems with its “ostrich policies,” and then it will agree to listen to what the science of Kabbalah has to say.

Question: You speak from the point of view of an ordinary person who sees that he is not understood, the whole world does not hear him. But if creation is arranged completely differently, if it is inside you, then what?

Answer: What difference does it make whether it is inside me or outside? I have to fix this. That is why I’ve been given the opportunity to see it from the outside, to make it easier to fix.

Question: So there must be an appeal to the perception that exists as if from the outside?

Answer: Sure. I have to reach out to people, correct them, and promote Kabbalah so that they will come to me and strive for the same goal—unification.

Question: So it is impossible to do this internally with a small group?

Answer: No, it is not possible. I cannot do the work for others, although these others, as you want to say now, are in me.

Otherwise, you take away freewill from every part of you that you think exists outside of you. This part can correct its selfishness only if it feels free from you and does it on its own. This way you will help each other.

And it is not schizophrenia. The fact that we cannot put several opposite things together in our minds is our problem. This is the problem of the narrowness of our world, because we have only the desire to enjoy and nothing else.

But we have other possibilities to experience the existing universe. In order to develop them, we are given so–called “schizophrenia”: although these are my parts that exist outside of me, and everything around me is me; it is mine, but on the other hand, I have to correct it exactly as if it is not mine, helping them to be independent, and then each part will fix itself.

Having corrected ourselves, we will all come together into one single whole, and all our independent corrections will come together. That is, all our desires will add up to one desire, and all our small screens will add up to one screen.

There Is No Point in Waiting Hundreds of Years

961.1Reality does not have to end its development with an explosion. You can end the War of Gog and Magog in a small laboratory, or you can unleash it on the entire world, it doesn’t matter. What matters for you is to recognize evil.

If you have a microscope, you recognize evil before it breaks through and begins to develop. You see in advance that there is an infectious agent that can destroy the entire world! And that’s it. We need to draw as much light as possible so that it will show this to us.

There is no specific external parameter that you could point to and say: “Here it is, Mount Sinai!” This parameter is your tension that is caused by the fact that you can no longer tolerate evil. Baal HaSulam writes that this depends on a person’s level of development.

A developed person who uses Kabbalah, the light that returns to the source, already sees how terrible it is. Nothing more needs to be shown to him.

So there is no point in waiting another hundred years, then it would not be the path of Torah but the path of suffering. The purpose of being given the Torah, Kabbalah, is so that we can go through this development “externally,” without waiting to reach it through natural development. One way or another, we will have to work. The only difference is whether it will be in suffering or in joy.

How Can We Retreat from the Brink?

961.1Comment: You say that it is impossible to give up self-gratification, impossible to love your neighbor, and impossible to bestow to another. Impossible!

My Response: Yes.

Question: If a person reaches such a sharp, bitter realization inside himself is this good?

Answer: This is the recognition of evil, of one’s nature! And from there you must still say that I need to rise above it, above this nature. What do I need to do for this? Where can I find such a remedy?

People haven’t found it yet. They have already stopped hoping, on one hand. But on the other hand, they are gradually understanding more and more that if such a remedy does not exist, then there is no happiness, nothing good, no future either.

Comment: So here we have a dilemma. I understand that one cannot live like this, that I am like this, my nature is like this, and at the same time I understand that I cannot move forward.

My Response: I can’t.

Question: I’ve reach this point that there is no going back and no moving forward. What should one do in this case?

Answer: When we reach such a state, we begin to understand that if nature has set this task for us, then obviously nature also has a solution.

Question: That is logical. So the solution is not around me, not in my friends, not anywhere here, but in nature itself. And thus, I slowly begin to communicate with nature?

Answer: Yes. This is communication with nature.

Question: So, I say: “The solution is inside you. Give me this solution.”

Answer: Yes. It must reach the point where a person is truly compelled to turn to nature in such a way.

Question: And at what moment will nature give answers and respond?

Answer: When a person is in complete despair, when he truly needs only this.

Question: If we generalize all this, are we now being led exactly to this state? We cannot bypass it, cannot avoid it?

Answer: In no way.

Question: So you have a clear sense that we are being led precisely to this?

Answer: Yes. We only need to understand and feel that the inner inversion is based at this point. It is necessary; otherwise you will not transition into another mode of existence.

Question: And tell me, if a person hears you, what are his actions at that moment? Even if he begins to mechanically communicate with nature, with the Creator.

Answer: Only to strengthen himself in this paradigm.

The Future Is Built in the Present, Part 2

715So far the world has been busy figuring out how to dodge the next blow from nature to protect itself. But one way or another, the blow comes. The question is how to resist this blow within ourselves. We have the opportunity to make it so that we do not even feel that we were hit or that there was a tsunami.

If we succeed in controlling our inner world, we will see a completely different reality, one that supposedly exists outside of us. Then we will understand that in fact nothing changes on the outside. All tsunamis and earthquakes occur only within us, in our perception.

The future is a law that exists within us, and is realized through the general force of nature within which we find ourselves. This force is constant and unchanging, and we are constantly changing within it. That is why it seems to us that the world is changing. But in reality, it is not. The only ones who change are us.

In that case we can turn to our own changes, and try to take control of them in order to determine our future, not only whether there will be a tsunami or not, but ultimately life and death.

We can make our lives beautiful and comfortable. We will not need air conditioning or heating; we will feel what we want to feel. There will be no sense of the slightest inconvenience or discomfort. One can create a truly heavenly life for oneself.

Question: What is “time” anyway?

Answer: In order to bring us to the correct perception of reality and teach us to manage the concept of time, that is, our own changes, we are placed in two systems: giving and receiving. We find ourselves sometimes in one system and sometimes in the other, one good and one bad, an altruistic system of giving and love and an egoistic system of receiving and hatred.

This alternating transition from the rule of one system to the rule of the other is what we feel as the flow of time. This is what gives rise to the concept of time in this world.

Time is our sensation, not the rotation of the sun, the moon, or the Earth, which also take place within us.

Question: Does the solar system also exist within us?

Answer: Of course, because nothing exists except the human being who imagines the universe this way.

One moment I fall under the governance of the altruistic system of giving, and at another under the governance of the egoistic system of receiving. And these oscillations between the two systems, like a pendulum—tick-tock, tick-tock—create the sensation of time.

Where True Power Begins

214Question: We still need to understand that on the earthly level, in this world, we cannot do anything ourselves with these hands or with this head. Is that right?

Answer: We cannot.

Comment: And all our attempts now to make society better, to make the world better…

My Response: Again, the same old games.

Comment: The same games that will lead nowhere. And humanity still keeps looking for some earthly leader who will…

Answer: It simply does not know how to use the forces of nature! That is what Kabbalah gives us, what Kabbalah explains to us. Kabbalah tells us how to reach this positive force of nature, how to constantly draw it upon ourselves and thereby change the world.

What does “world” mean? It is what I see and feel around me either with my bad eye or with my good eye—that is what I call the world.

So, how do I change my evil attitude toward the world to a good one? This is the entire science of Kabbalah, the science of receiving, of correctly perceiving the place where you are—this world.

294.2Evil rules the world. And God forbid, but we can still see it all.

Question: And no prohibitions will help? No agreements will help? Nothing will help whatsoever?

Answer: Nothing

Question: Is the elimination of nuclear weapons also impossible?

Answer: It is impossible. How can you eliminate them? Do you know who has them in the world today?

Question: Meaning, the world is loaded with weapons of mass destruction?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Will it be brimming even more?

Answer: No one is holding us back. Who can hold us back? You cannot restrain egoism, and this is what you get in return. Here, we need a serious hope in the upper force that would gradually sober us up.

Question: What does it have to tell us?

Answer: That there is no other way but to simply lay down our arms and begin to engage in positive connections between us, in the entirely new possibilities that are opening up for humanity.

We can’t continue down the old paths, not with thought, not with the mind, not with feelings, not with anything! Everything that has been in the past was built on absolute egoism. We must not use it any longer.

Comment: There is only one thing left—to see the ego as an enemy, and to see another person as a friend.

Answer: Very beautiful.

Society as a Single Spiritual Organism

75.01Question: When we speak about an integral state, do we mean society, or according to Kabbalah is it a single spiritual organism?

Answer: It is one and the same. We are speaking about a society that begins to sense itself as one common whole. Within it, a collective mind, a collective feeling, collective needs, and a collective outlook on everything emerge. That is, the entire society becomes one unified whole and begins to feel all levels of nature as fully interconnected. And when a person includes this vast nature within himself, sees it and feels it inside himself, he begins to internalize its program.

As part of this program, he starts to perceive it in its entirety. It is as if he sees himself as having originated billions of years ago and as continuing his development billions of years into the future because he begins to be included in this immense organism of integral nature. He starts to feel all the forces he exists within, and understands how this works, how it influences him, and how he can influence himself, his destiny, and his future, as the only active element in nature, not instinctively, but consciously.

However, he will attain this only when he is integrally included in all levels of nature. Then he rises to the highest level of nature, to the level of the Creator, so to speak. There is no Creator as such; nature itself is the Creator. But a person reaches such a level.

Question: How can we define the very concept of society, since society and an organism are perceived as different things? Society is sometimes compared to an organism, but this is a metaphor, an image.

Answer: These concepts are perceived as different in a society where all the elements are not interconnected. If it is an organism broken into parts, into fragments, like a sick person in a dreadful state, when all the systems are out of balance, then you are right. That is the state of today’s society that we are trying somehow to save from destruction, from the complete disintegration of all its systems. But when all systems are in mutual support and balance, each one and all together, like the human body, then this is simply an integral society.

Comment: So we must draw a clear line between the notions of society that prevail in sociology. There everything is very simple: there is a simple society, a primitive community, a tribe, and there is a complex society, which must be highly differentiated.

My Response: Primitive communities, by the way, were practically integral communities. For them this was based on an instinctive level, as in the animal world.

But we differ from the animal world in that egoism has grown in us. And now we begin to unite on a different level.

Animals are instinctively united in an integral community. Nature holds them together through its general law. Then, above our animal body, egoism grows, and we must begin to integrate above it, together with it. That is, egoism itself gives us a new level of integration.

Which Path Will You Take?

701Now you can understand their words about the verse, “I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.” The Sanhedrin (98) interpreted, “Not rewarded—in its time; rewarded—I will hasten it.”

Thus, there are two ways to attain the above-mentioned goal: through their own attention, which is called a “path of repentance.” If they are rewarded with it, “I will hasten it” will be applied to them. This means that there is no set time for it, but when they are rewarded, the correction ends, of course.

If they are not awarded the attention, there is another way, called “path of suffering,” as our sages said, Sanhedrin 97, “I place upon them a king such as Haman, and they will repent against their will,” meaning in its time, for in that there is a set time, and they will want it (Baal HaSulam “Introduction to the Book Panim Meirot uMasbirot,” p.7).

Before us there are two paths for attaining the very same goal, and we stand at their crossroads. Every moment we must feel ourselves at this crossroads that determines our free choice. And the choice here is very simple: to go by the path of light or by the path of suffering.

There is no third path! We are obliged to advance by one of these two paths, and at every moment we must decide how to take the next step. The foot is already suspended in the air; choose where to place it: on the path of light or on the path of suffering?!

A moment will pass, and again you will have to make the same choice. From above, your foot is lifted, compelling you to take a step, and you must decide where to lower it, onto which of the roads. And according to this, you will receive the forces and means for advancement, because in any case you are obliged to move forward.

But if you advance by the path of Beito (natural development, in its time), then the forces of nature push you forward against your egoism, since you wish to walk in accordance with your ego. And therefore, forces act upon you that oppose your egoism and try to keep you in bestowal.

Through the path of Achishena (accelerating time), you yourself begin to persuade yourself, through the environment, that it is worthwhile to be in bestowal, and in this way, you draw the surrounding light, which returns you to the good, upon yourself.

On the path of Beito, you receive blows, and you learn from them, until in the end you also come to a request, a prayer for correction, and advance, just as when following the path of Achishena.

And if you immediately take the path of light, you save time on the first section of the path where you would have lost it by not wishing to listen and to apply your own efforts.

There is no time for deliberation over which path to place your foot on! Everything depends on the preparation of the environment.
