Answer: Only those who really have an inner urge, an inclination, and realization that it is necessary go to study. Otherwise, what is there to teach? The correct attitude?

A person learns the correct attitude on oneself based on their feelings and inner actions, from the fact that one feels bad and wants to find what is good. It is explained to them where to find a positive feeling so that a person can feel better thanks to one’s correct attitude toward people and toward the Creator. This is not acquired through formal study.

We study because we want to master the methodology to teach others. But when teaching a person, you should not simply sit them down to study. Why all of a sudden? These are natural processes that a person must undergo internally. Moreover, we see how few people are naturally suited for structured learning. It is meant only for those who will later teach others, but teach them practically how to act.

You might say, “Yes, but it is written that through study we draw the surrounding light upon us, and besides that, there is no other means.” Yet again, this applies only to those who must correct themselves as priests or teachers. Others correct themselves solely through their attitude. Just the attitude—nothing else is needed.

Sit and study for hours? Not at all! A person simply needs an explanation. They need a group that demonstrates how they should relate in order to reach the purpose of creation—union with the Creator. It is also necessary to teach that the Creator is the upper force that operates in nature. The more I obey this force, the more I merge with Him; and when I distance myself from Him, I get “spanked” like an unreasonable child because I am not merged with Him.

Today these words have lost their flavor and give people the impression that this is about religion. In reality, we are simply being taught how to fulfill the laws of nature. There is a universal law: if you do not follow it, you suffer. You must fulfill it through your attitude toward Him: as He relates to you, so must you relate to Him.

Our message to the people of Israel must be that a person should be a “kingdom of priests” and a “holy nation” in relation to himself and in relation to a group of people, whether small or large, all the way to the rest of the nations and the world.

The first degree is called governance by reward and punishment and the second eternal love. They stand opposite the “kingdom of priests” and “holy nation.”

However, since these are very high levels and are still far from us, it turns out that even at the smallest level, you cannot move from your place unless you take into account where you ultimately want to arrive. Question: What should I say to a simple person who does not study and probably will not study Kabbalah?

Answer: There is no need to study Kabbalah! The wisdom of Kabbalah is not for studying it. Studying is not its realization. Realization in our world occurs through awareness of the separation and correction and not through any kind of physical action.

Physical action is the dissemination to the people of Israel and the nations of the world of the idea of what the purpose of creation is and the process of achieving it. Once a person hears it and to some extent agrees with it, a person, as they say, carries it out.

There is no realization in our world. How would you implement it? With hands, feet? Even the work in the Temple, the sacrifice of animals for the Temple service are external symbols of internal agreement. All the work is internal.

You sow this knowledge in yourself and in the nations of the world, in everyone without any distinction, and everyone feels that this is indeed so and, apparently, the entire world is in a bad state precisely because we do not follow this general law. This is how you correct everything.

After all, the correction does not lie in extracting a few more tons of oil or coal, or building a few more factories, or in doing something else. Correction is not accomplished by physical actions. An action is achieving the correct intention. That is all. All the actions of this world are useless, and we see how destructive they are.

The intention for the sake of bestowal was shattered; the intention that should have been in the head of the Partzuf of the world of Nikudim or Adam. At that time, in the head (Rosh), there was an intention to receive for the sake of bestowal, but it was not realized in the body (Guf). It is precisely this intention that must now be realized. Intention!

Therefore, to the question “What should we do in this world?,” I answer: we should not perform any physical actions other than dissemination, other than study. This is what is called the “kingdom of the priests”: the priests (Kohanim) have no inheritance, they do not have to do anything. They should only teach, pass the method.

And what about the other nations? They work with the desire to receive; that is considered their work. The actions are only in connection, dissemination, explanation. And that is all.

Question: Should we take the idea contained in what we are studying and pass it on to everyone?

Answer: You cannot convey this idea to the people because these are completely abstract things. The people may perceive it as something even somewhat rational because they themselves are in an irrational state.

Humanity has yet to discover how suspended in the air it is; it lacks support. But where is the proof that if we change our attitude to the world just because this is the general law of the universe, we will gain something from it?

That means you are bringing the Creator here. You are telling them this not from a social point of view, like the well-meaning socialists who say: “Let us create a wonderful society, let us care for one another…” and everyone understands that it would be great if we could achieve this.

But you tell them, “No, that is not why we should be kind. We should be kind because in this we become like the upper force, which will then change everything and affect us in a completely different, astonishing way, from which all the foundations will change! Not only will the relationships between us change, even nature will change—everything will change!” In this case, you are applying a parameter that they neither understand nor feel. These are the words of our sages in clarifying the ending, “These are the words which you will say to the children of Israel.” They made the precision, “These are the words,” no more and no less. Question: Is the only way to prove the general law of the universe (without yet feeling it) to see that without it, I feel bad?

Answer: Of course. Nothing more is needed! Humanity is not at all required to suddenly engage in spiritual searches. All of this is very practical, real-life stuff. You can see for yourself, nobody comes in any other way.

The question is, how much suffering can we save ourselves by coming to it earlier? Is there any doubt that with blows, you can make a person do anything? There is no problem! Maybe we are incapable of that, but from above, it is absolutely possible.

In this way, the distinction between the work according to the principle of “no less” with vessels of bestowal, and the principle of “no more” with vessels of reception is expressed. Baal HaSulam formulates it in this way.
