When Words and Gestures Become Unnecessary

942Question: You said that inspiration and transmission of information should be brief, clear, and to the point, not rambling statements that go on for five to ten minutes where one person speaks and everyone else is silent as if forcing themselves: “Yes, we must listen.” What should a truly inspiring speech be like?

Answer: That is a big problem, because our guys start quoting excerpts, using official jargon, and bringing in all sorts of explanations. Here, you just need to express your inner expression as simply as possible, from heart to heart, to convey the maximum feeling with the minimum number of words, and that is all.

Therefore, I am in favor of everything being very brief, without unnecessary intellectualization. A person should prepare in advance so that it would burst out from their heart, as they say, “without thinking.” But this is not easy; it comes gradually.

In addition, the listeners themselves are not yet attuned to understanding. We don’t yet communicate with each other internally, through feelings. Just as a mother feels her baby without words, and the baby feels the mother through subconscious sensations, so too should we feel one another. Much more so!

Then our external communication, words, gestures, facial expressions will become superfluous. Over time, all this will cease, and you will be able to transmit your sensations to others and receive them completely outside of physical contact, even if the person is no longer in our world but on some other levels.

That is, you no longer associate him with his body. Whether he is somewhere, a couple of thousand kilometers away from you in his body, or outside the body, in another dimension, what is the difference?

Understand What the Science of Kabbalah Says

269You will not break natural egoism with artificial means such as public opinion or education. There is no cure for this but a natural religion (Baal HaSulam, The Writings of the Last Generation).

Baal HaSulam believes that neither education nor public opinion will help humanity, only religion will, that is, enlightenment, which is absolute and unlimited. By religion, Baal HaSulam means the science of Kabbalah, which reveals the upper force, a system through which this force, from its highest point in the world of infinity, governs all the worlds, the system of governance, and us in our lowest world.

Without understanding how this system works and adapting to it from our side, from the bottom up, we will not be able to attain the meaning of life. At the same time, we do not attach any philosophical connotation to the concept of “the meaning of life,” because without an understanding of life’s true essence, we cannot function normally.

We are moving to a state in which any of our actions that align with the direction of development toward the goal of creation are beneficial to us and yield positive results. If the action is not directed precisely toward the goal, if it does not move us closer to it, it yields a negative outcome, and we suffer. Moreover, we may not know which actions produce which outcomes, as we are not familiar with this system.

In order for us to know exactly what to do at this point in our development, to stop standing still or going backward, falling, getting bumps, and moving from crisis to crisis, we must understand what the science of Kabbalah says.

It explains which system a person lives in and which worlds surround him, how the upper force, the Creator, governs us through these worlds in the lower world, how we should respond to the Creator’s governance, and what we should come to, which is complete similarity, alignment, and adhesion with the Creator.

Nowadays, the science of Kabbalah is becoming very relevant because we see that today, none of the global rulers, neither philosophers nor scientists, have a good idea of where we are, how we conduct ourselves, or how to manage ourselves to ensure a more or less tolerable “tomorrow,” rather than head toward destruction.

Today many are increasingly aware of this, but people still do not understand that there is a system of knowledge known as “Kabbalah.”

In general, we call religion the study of the upper force, not just faith in the upper force, but the study of it. That is, the science of Kabbalah is the science of the upper force. If the upper force governs us through a system, then we can study that system. It may be impossible to study the upper force itself, but at least its effect on us can be understood, investigated, and applied.

Kabbalists, those who have mastered this system in the past, write to us from the depths of time that the desire of the upper force is for us to reveal it, understand its goodness, eternity, perfection, and strive to be like it.

At the Empty Feeder

294.2We must show humanity that there is a cure for death, an elixir of immortality. But not in a way that allows a person to try it, he tries and that’s it; I won’t give him any more.

When a person begins to study Kabbalah, over the course of several months, he or she is shown a little that other states exist, and he constantly goes through them.

He sees that something is changing in him: his psyche, his psychology, his attitude toward the world, toward life, and toward himself; his consciousness expands; he begins to think on two levels—on the spiritual and the earthly level.

To a complete stranger it is enough to tell a little about the method, to give logical examples. Baal HaSulam writes in the book The Last Generation that there is no other way out.

We see in the examples of our world how we are nevertheless being helped to show that something needs to be done with it and with ourselves. If our world were in good condition, it would be much more difficult for us to tear a person away from the material feeding trough. But as it is, he sees that the feeder is already empty, and soon everything will be over.

The Relevance of Dissemination

271Question: How should dissemination be expressed? Are there certain boundaries that we cannot cross?

Answer: The boundaries should be what is acceptable, decent, but without any fear, equivocation, or hints. Simply, in a direct way. Friends, look at what we have today: on one hand, the path of suffering, on the other hand, the path of correction. And you will immediately begin to feel yourselves and the world differently.

Yes, it is not easy. But it is simple if we are together. What does this mean? It means a change in social relations. It means new social relations that are built on brotherhood, camaraderie, mutual help, on the fact that we are elements of one single system. Let’s begin to build ourselves exactly as this system exists within us. This network exists between us.

Let’s first accept not to harm one another as a goal. Everywhere—at home, at work, on the road, wherever you are—let’s consider ourselves members of one family.

Comment: This instinct is characteristic of ants protecting their anthill.

My Response: What difference does it make? With the help of this, you attain the level of the Creator! And in fact, today you are an ant.

By fulfilling the laws of Kabbalah, we do not demean ourselves, but we elevate ourselves because in the correct connection between us, we reveal the upper force of nature.

A Period of Hesitation

533.02Question: Can you give an example of how to rise above an egoistic state?

Answer: The most common state a person goes through is when something “unpleasant” is orchestrated from above, some kind of negative incident, and then they are manipulated, supposedly revealing it to the whole world. Because of this, a person finds him or herself in a constrained, intensely anxious, stressful state, terribly afraid for their good name.

They are pressured from above to show how much they love themselves and how unwilling they are to sacrifice their ego for any thoughts about spirituality, how they are even ready to run away from spiritual work just so they would not be exposed or revealed in any way, so that their insignificance would not be shown. These are the usual exercises carried out from above on our egoism.

But it is easy to talk about this, and when you are actually in such states, living through it is almost impossible. A person constantly wavers on this borderline, back and forth: either spirituality is important to me, or my ego, my shame. They keep examining and re-examining this. This condition is given so that they constantly try to understand that they must follow the path of bestowal and rise above their shame. This cannot be ignored.

I believe that one day films and books will be created on this topic and the time will come when it will be published, not only in a purely instructive format as it is today, but also in more popular styles accessible to many.

We know that today our sources are understood by only a small percentage of the population. Therefore, (just as Baal HaSulam dreamed) we will have to write new books, create new films, and new media tools that will emotionally bring a person into these states, because reason alone cannot achieve much. These tools should prepare a person through feelings, inner definitions, and inner analyses for the perception of spiritual influences.

See the Future as Good

252Question: Can a Kabbalist predict what will happen in ten years?

Answer: A Kabbalist will never engage in prophecy. He can explain the trends of the development of society and humanity in order to demonstrate the course of the egoistic nature without the intervention of our correction.

And with the intervention of correction, no one will be able to clearly predict this, since everything depends only on the freedom of will of the people who study Kabbalah.

Therefore, Baal HaSulam, who printed his books, reproduced and distributed them with the purpose of disseminating Kabbalah, came to the conclusion that the generation was not yet ready for this.

He even wrote about the possibility of a third and fourth world war. But still, a Kabbalist does not know exactly when anything will happen because he does not have the right to use the freedom of will as a given reality. He leaves it for a person to realize.

Thus, a Kabbalist can predict the tendency of the natural development of humanity. However, considering a person’s freedom of will, he does not know how quickly humanity will enter this process. Therefore, he will not engage in speculation.

Question: Maybe Kabbalists can predict something good?

Answer: Kabbalists will predict something good only to the extent that you want it to be good.

Comment: By the way, I have never read good predictions. That is strange.

My Response: Because everything depends on the person! If you are corrected, you will see the future as good. If you are not corrected, you will see it as bad. And there is no future by itself. How well your senses are corrected or not, that is how you will feel it. You are the one who creates your own future! So, keep trying!

What Does Kabbalah Predict?

The Matter That Cannot Be Grasped

263Question: You say that everything spiritual is feelings. What are feelings?

Answer: Feelings are what happens in the desire, and desire is our matter. That is, we are talking about matter and the form of matter. This is what we study in Kabbalah and what we can sense, analyze, and reproduce. Therefore, absolutely everything is in our feelings.

Comment: But feelings don’t have a specific location.

My Response: Desire is the very place in which you sense what you feel. My desire is the only reality. And all the objects surrounding me only seem to exist. In fact, they are drawn for me in my desire. Besides desire, there is nothing. Matter is desire.

Comment: In reality, this is something inexplicable.

My Response: It simply cannot be grasped.

Comment: Neither feelings nor desire can be conveyed in any way. Only if, as you say, there is a common form. If someone has experienced it, they can convey the feeling.

My Response: That is why I try, in some way, to push students to start writing emotional works about everyday situations that would lead a person to a certain awakening, similar to a spiritual one, and would accelerate their development.

Question: Is it possible to convey Kabbalah in this way? Can you take all the explanations from the heights and transmit them in a sensory form?

Answer: Yes, try to present all this in the form of various novels. One can, of course, write purely psychologically about a person’s inner states, even when he doesn’t intersect with others. Or one can base it on his relationships with a group, with friends, with animals, with women; it doesn’t matter.

That is, the foundation is always the same, only more complicated. Just like in our world: There are more intelligent people, there are less educated ones, but the foundation is always the same—emotional.

Quality Connection

938.05Question: We know that the closer we come to Lishma, the higher the likelihood that we will be heard throughout the world. In your view, what are we lacking in order to influence the whole world more strongly: quality or quantity?

Answer: We lack quality so that the connection between us becomes very strong. It will allow us to unite with one another and merge with our source, the Creator, in order to receive strength from Him and, through our connection with others, channel this strength to the entire world.

Questions about Spiritual Work—275

281.02Question: Baal HaSulam writes that as long as the nation of Israel does not come to the fulfillment of the Torah and commandments Lishma, the troubles in the world will not cease.

Over these years, we have had different appeals to the public, both to Jews and to the nations of the world. How do you see who this nation of Israel is, and to whom we must address ourselves?

Answer: It is those who are now attending our lessons and who wish, with our help, to attain the goal of creation.

Question: You said that we do not have the strength to influence all of humanity. Should we ask for this strength, or is it better for now to focus on the work in the ten?

Answer: We need to focus on the ten so that all your forces are inside it and you are ready to invest yourselves completely in its strengthening.

The Creator’s Theater School

623Just as we expect actors in the theatre to do their best to make our imagination think that their acting is real, we expect our interpreters of religion to be able to touch our hearts so deeply that we will perceive the faith of religion as the actual reality (Baal HaSulam, The Writings of the Last Generation).

Kabbalists should be closer to people and approach them so that their words would speak to the human heart and the heart would understand them. There is still a lot of work to be done here because the egoistic human heart is used to being receptive only to certain cliches. People are far from what we are saying. It is incomprehensible, alien, and repulsive to them.

There is a vast gap between the science of Kabbalah and the modern, crude human consciousness, especially regarding the perception of reality, freewill, and the realization of mutual love, that is, things the mind does not agree with. After all, we should perceive as an existing reality, not our material world that we see through the five animal senses, but a completely different dimension.

We must understand that people are unaware of this. They cannot see or feel what we Kabbalists see and feel. Here we encounter our own weakness. We cannot blame people for not understanding us. We need to blame ourselves for not understanding people.

Comment: Why does Baal HaSulam make a clear comparison with artists?

My Response: Parents play with their children in the same way. What does being an artist mean? This is a person who stands at a higher level than others must regress and act at a lower level for the viewer to feel it as reality.

A Kabbalist, just like an artist, must talk about everything correctly, and use examples so that others understand how this method is implemented.

Usually people come to us looking for us to lift them up, rather than for us to come down to their level. And if we go out to the masses, we must understand that 90% of people on Earth, if not more, are incapable of mastering the methodology.

Therefore we must explain it to them at their level so they will join us like a small one clings to the great, and thus ensure that they are going in the right direction.

Question: Aside from acting for the general masses, should we, first of all, act for each other?

Answer: Of course, in order to be more connected with each other, each of us, by absorbing the properties of others, would become integrally assembled.

Question: Then why do we need an outer circle of people who follow us like a child holding onto his father’s little finger?

Answer: The fact is, we exist for them. The Creator wants them to become closer to Him. And we are the intermediate link, His messengers and His workers. That is why we are called the workers of the Creator. And they are the address He wants to send Himself to; He wishes them to adhere to Him because of us.

Question: After we fill them, does anything remain of us as transmitters?

Answer: Nothing, zero, and we are very pleased with this.

Question: Why do transmitters have to be actors?

Answer: Acting is a descent from the level of the Creator, to which you are attached on the one hand, to the lower level of people on the other hand, and the transformation of this through yourself. You have to take the role of the Creator, play Him in such a way—with His methodology, management system, and everything else—and gradually lower the levels so that everything is clear to the little ones.

Question: What if I lack acting skills and cannot act?

Answer: You can! Many scientists, including Kabbalists, have been thinking about the future of humanity. They thought about how to convey their thoughts to the masses, and wrote clever things. But no one understood anything!

And some of them wrote novels. They were not just writers, but great philosophers and teachers who expressed their thoughts in an artistic form. Those who wanted to convey their philosophy of life in an accessible way presented it in the form of a literary work because it is more accessible to the masses who associate with the characters of their novels.

This is the only way people perceive and absorb everything; otherwise, they cannot. If you start telling them the same thing in scientific terms, everything immediately dries up.

Question: So our art, as Kabbalists, is to evoke people’s empathy?

Answer: Absolutely. You organize all kinds of seminars, and this gradually brings them to a new state.

Question: Can every culture and nation organize something suitable for them?

Answer: Naturally. In its own way, national in form, Kabbalistic in content.
