Demand

laitman_284.01We must realize that we are not aimed toward the Creator and have no contact with Him because connection with the Creator is against our nature. Spirituality can be attained only through prayer, but we are incapable of it. The Creator will disallow us to do this. It is easy for an ordinary person to turn to the Creator in all religions and beliefs, but we cannot because the Creator wants us to have a true, correct, internal connection with Him, which is precise, powerful, and mutual. Therefore, He will show us how far we are from this connection.

Once we discover our inability to turn to Him, to pray, to be in contact with the Creator, we will understand how much we need an environment, a group, and connection because only within it will we reveal the Creator and together we can turn to Him. Otherwise, neither I nor all other friends reach the Creator. We can only do it together.

This is not the Creator to whom people pray in all languages and in all religions, imagining Him to themselves. We must clearly reveal the Creator because the Creator (Boreh) means “come and see” (“Bo” [come] and “Reh” [see]).

Only through the correct, true request, after we connect with the Creator, can we change our state and realize ourselves. The connection with Him is only possible through our unity and common demand.1

We should ask the Creator for correction as persistently as a crying baby demands from its mother, confident that she must reply to him. Through such demands, our desire grows. This is how a person, a child, grows; everything is arranged in the way in all of nature. However, we are different because we can know to whom we turn and can be in equivalence of form with Him.

Everything that happens in nature, in inanimate matter, plants, animals, and people, all the desires of all the times and all the created beings accumulate within us and we bring them to the connection with the Creator. Otherwise, the Creator will not hear us. He heard Kabbalists in the past, even if they studied individually, but today it does not work. Therefore, we are called the last generation, which plays a special role and does not act like all the Kabbalists of the past, who only set the stage for us. Now we are realizing this task through a special connection between us.2

We must break the partition, constantly nag the Creator, ask, and demand, know there is no other way. Again and again. The Creator enjoys our requests. So perhaps we do not need anything else? If the Creator receives pleasure from our appeals to Him, then He cannot let us clearly feel His reaction; otherwise, we will begin to use Him egotistically, demanding “give us, give us” even greater knowledge and sensations.

Therefore, the Creator hides even more. He reveals Himself to us a little in the concealment and we need to intensify our request, to bring more mind and intention to it, to gradually get closer to understanding what the screen and reflected light are.

We do not reach connection with the Creator directly but through our complete inversion. I cannot come to the Creator with my current desires and thoughts because they will short circuit. Plus and minus will be short-circuited directly. Therefore, I must place a correct adapter between them that is called “restriction (Tzimtzum), screen (Masach), reflected light (Ohr Hozer), and then my will to receive can enter into contact with the will to bestow of the Creator. There has to be some kind of dielectric [electric insulator] in the middle, that protects against short-circuit, and this is the restriction, screen and reflected light.

First, we need a restriction so that I myself would at least demand the strength to restrict my egoism, would not want to see and feel the Creator; rather, on the contrary, I would ask the force to not let me use my will to receive. I ask to be given the strength to rise above my nature. Thus, I wrap myself in insulation and then behind this insulation I ask to be given the intention to bestow. I do not know what it is, but if this is the nature of the Creator, then let Him give me a little bit of these qualities. I then receive the dressing of the upper one, the dressing of the Creator, the dressing of the great priest (the great Cohen).

In the measure of this dressing, wrapped in the reflected light and certain that I use my will to receive for the sake of bestowal, I can already act. We are very close to this realization, it is right in front of us. We just need a little more effort to ask, to demand. If we do not feel a response, then like a baby, we become even more demanding.

If the mother does not respond, the child grabs her and pulls her. Again, she does not answer, he begins to hit her, scream, sob, and roll on the ground in hysterics. It is all a game because when he gets what he wants, he instantly calms down. This is how nature makes him act. We have to do the same with the Creator, nagging Him again and again.

However, we already have initial contact with Him, we are very close. The Creator only sets more and more difficult conditions for us every day so that we can reach the true demand, which He can answer.

We need to go through all this because this is not an artificial condition “if you do not scream, you will get nothing,” but rather the process of building our Kli. These cries, the efforts made to pray together with our friends, become our new spiritual vessel. The will to receive is not the Kli, the Kli must be built above the will to receive. This new Kli is built precisely through the contact with the Creator when He does not respond to us.

Reveal The Freedom Of Choice And Choose To Merge With The Creator

laitman_962.5It is said by the sages: “The long road is short, and the short road is long.” The Creator wants us to see ourselves not as the righteous who have nothing to correct, but as sinners and to rise above our defects, over our separation and inability to bestow.

I reveal that I am a sinner and strive to become righteous. The righteous is one who justifies the Creator. Nothing is required of us except this justification, everything else is done from above.

The long or short road, I decide on my ability to justify the Creator. Perhaps I am only at the very beginning of the path, but I adhere myself completely to the Creator. It is not the condition itself that matters to the Creator, but the efforts made by us, as we appreciate the efforts of a baby in a trifling matter and are touched by them more than the great successes of a grown child.

The person himself determines where he is. Maybe he is far from the Creator, but uses this estrangement as an opportunity to show his devotion and closeness to Him. And then the long road becomes short. A short road can be long if a person thinks that he is already close to the Creator. So we judge not by our sensations, but only by our ability to justify the Creator, and then we can already achieve correction.1

From Baal HaSulam’s article, “You Have Made Me in Behind and Before”: “You have made me in behind and before,” meaning the revelation and concealment of the face of the Creator. This is because indeed, “His kingdom rules over all,” and everything will return to its root because there is no place vacant of Him. But the difference is in the present or the future, because one who connects the two worlds discovers His clothing in the present, that everything that is done is a clothing for the revelation of the Shechina [Divinity].

A person for whom the present and future are one and the same feels that he already has the revelation of the Creator; that is, everything that happens is a manifestation of the actions of the upper force.

If I imagine that it is not me acting now, but the Creator acting in me, then the present and the future are connected for me and there is nothing left but this moment. Time does not exist. If the next moment matters to me, then I’m in a flawed condition right now.

The future exists only in order to cancel it and pull it into the present. For this, I must imagine that the Creator rules me at every moment, and for me there is no next moment because I am completely in His power.2

The Creator wants us to find that He controls us all the time, like a horseman with a horse, and leads us toward good. If I reveal a good higher management, then for me the difference between the present and the future disappears, everything ends in the present moment. As soon as I merge with the Creator, time disappears because it does not matter to me what He will do with me, I do not expect anything new.3

It is a mistake to think that in the past I decided something myself and did something wrong, which led to a bad state today. It turns out that I deny the uniqueness of the Creator if I affirm that in the past it was not His government, but I ruled myself.

Everything that occurred up to this point happened according to the will of the highest management, and I am forbidden to regret the past. I have to stick to the present moment.

The horse’s freewill is not to ride against the will of the rider and not even to guess his wishes in advance. The horse’s freedom is to work against its will. This is where it reveals freedom of choice: to be in the power of the Creator all the time and merge with Him. The state cannot be frozen; it changes all the time. And I have to change myself, remaining in constant fusion with the Creator, despite changing conditions.4

Heart Harder Than Stone

laitman_962.3It is said that the Creator is close to those whose hearts are broken, and my heart breaks when I understand that I can’t break it. I need to work a lot to agree that my heart is really as hard as a stone, and only the Creator can break it, and only through the ten, the friends.1

Only With Help From Above

laitman_962.6Each one of the ten people in the ten will say something different; coming to a common prayer is possible only with the help from above. But help from above will not come until we ask. What stops us from asking? We all have one obstacle: our stony heart does not want to feel any other; it is incapable and unprepared for it. The reason is the Creator himself, who stands between us and disallows our unity until we ask properly.

It is He who interferes with us because He created the evil inclination. Therefore, we need to beg Him, scream, and pray that “My sons defeated Me” will be fulfilled. We already stand right on this threshold; we only need to strike a common blow to convince the Creator. He wants this and waits, but He tolerates and restrains us, suffering more than we do.

It is necessary to think over this attack, as if during war, to mobilize all means and forces for this request, to constantly cry, ask, and annoy the Creator without ceasing to feel that it is He who stands in our way and does not let us. You must think about it together 24 hours a day. Suppose we do not feel each other, but we can feel this common point for us: the Creator, who interferes with our union. And everything is achieved only through connection—the beginning of the soul is there.

This is called “breaking through the Machsom.” The Creator stands on the border of the spiritual world, and we need to convince Him to let us in. He is not our enemy, but only insists on this condition: connection, unity, and mutual support. It is necessary to invest all our time to this effort, pushing our way toward the answer, constantly beating at one point.1

No one is ready for this work, and the bigger the person, the bigger is his ego. But despite your disappointment, you need to help each other and rise again. We must not think about our failures but about how to awaken the hearts of our friends. Then, there will be no problems. If I take care of sick friends, I will forget about my own illness, like a mother caring for a sick baby. So, I will recover quickly.2

The Creator does not hear one person but at least two, and even then, only under special conditions. But He will certainly hear the ten if it addresses Him as one person. In the spiritual world, a single unit is ten united as one.3

We all speak different words, even in different languages, but the essence of our request is the same: we ask the Creator for one thing—connection. First of all, we want to connect, and from our unity, we will already understand what we need. What do we then want? We then want even bigger and stronger connection. And so it is every time, more and more, nothing but this. This must all be done by the Creator: “He who makes peace above will make peace upon us and upon all Israel.”4

To turn to the Creator means to imagine that you are under a sphere that covers you and determines everything. Then I turn to this desire, to the power of this sphere that organizes and controls our entire life to the final finest detail, to the smallest molecule in my body. I ask this force to bring my life in line with this sphere in order to exist in harmony with it.5

In The Middle Of The Battlefield Between The Forces Of Good And Evil

laitman_263The war between the Hasmoneans and the Greeks is an internal war in a person who discovers that he consists of two opposing forces that must be constantly held against each other. The problem is that we surrender to the negative forces, to our egoism, since it is more convenient for us to please it than to fight with it all the time. As a result, a person understands that there is no way out and that he must turn to the Creator to fight for him because he himself is unable to fight with his evil inclination, which also comes from the Creator. An action against egoistic forces is the appeal to the Creator in which a person, with his egoism, wages a war against the Greeks toward complete victory.

This war does not end until a person wins and reaches the light. Let this be a little light in the vessel of Bina, but this is already the beginning of the revelation of the soul.

First of all, we must reveal that we are in danger and cannot escape from the power of our egoism, which does not let us turn to the Creator. This whole war is only for turning to the Creator, whom we ask for the strength to unite. The success of the war is measured by this only. This is how we advance until we win.1

The egoism does not let us turn to the Creator through the ten, but does not prevent us from turning to Him personally. The whole world appeals to the Creator because this is a Klipa, opposite to spirituality. The Creator can be revealed only through the ten, and if the appeal is not through the ten, then it is not to the Creator.

The power of the appeal to the Creator is the power of the Maccabees, the power of the ten. First of all, we must unite and create one common force, perhaps small yet a precise one, which will deliver success.

You can become a hero through quantity and quality. Those who are disconnected are strong in numbers. And those who are united as one person possess the power of quality.

The main thing is to get an opportunity to turn to the Creator because this whole war is aimed at revealing the one standing before us and achieving similarity to Him. Unity is not the end goal but the means of revealing the higher power that once created this unity and then broke it.2

The Hanukkah song “The Mighty Rock of My Salvation” says: “The Greeks attacked us in the days of the Hasmoneans and broke through the wall of the tower… .” This means that we must reach a certain level of connection, build a tower. And then we will feel how the “Greeks” attack us, break through the walls of our fortress, meaning, egoism attacks trying to break through our thoughts, desires, and destroy us.3

If in our ten we want the greatness of the Creator to enter into our whole being, affecting us as if we actually see Him and feel Him, then we attract the returning light that builds this feeling within us. Thus, we are already behind the fortress wall. And then the Greeks appear, wanting to break through the walls of our tower, meaning, these are all kinds of extraneous thoughts from all directions trying to break through our faith above reason.

Faith above reason—because inside my reason I do not see or feel anything. I received a backlight from above that keeps me in the air like a magnet holds a piece of metal. Thanks to this, I am in the tower behind the wall. This tower and the wall were built for me by the upper light, so, I depend on it.

In order to make me even more dependent upon the upper light and demand even more strongly, the Creator reveals in me faults called “the Greeks.” And I must ask Him and demand that He again performs a miracle and lets me stand against them. Of course, I do not have the strength, and if the Creator does not perform a miracle, I will certainly fall. Therefore, I have nothing to hope for except for the Creator.

Everything works according to one system: the Creator does something bad, I ask Him to correct this evil, and He does good. And so it happens at every step. Every time the same story occurs. We must finally understand how this happens and what needs to be done today: how to turn to the Creator asking for the power of faith above reason in order to advance with it.

The Creator builds a wall, and He sends the Greeks to destroy it. The Creator operates everywhere, and we are in the middle of this battlefield, between the powers of good and evil in order to combine them both within. Then we, as beings created by the force opposite to the Creator and having received a form similar to the Creator, become one with Him.4

We must ask for faith above reason because this is the wall behind which we can hide. And the tower is the greatness of the Creator built inside the wall—the faith above reason higher than our reason and feelings—only thanks to the prayers to the Creator and His actions. We only need to cry out together. If we ask together, we will certainly succeed.

Therefore, we need to bring together our knowledge, prayers, aspirations, and desires, in order to understand exactly what we want. Everyone should separate as much as possible from their own “I” and take care of the tower and the wall, that is, the greatness of the Creator which is inside faith above reason.5
