While he was imparted the desire and thought to at least occasionally do holy work, even in the simplest possible way, if one can appreciate the importance of this, according to the importance one attributes to the holy work, to that extent he should give praise and thanks for it (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 26, “One’s Future Depends and Is Tied to Gratitude for the Past”).

Question: It seemed to me that the convention was conducted on a much lighter note compared to previous ones. It felt like we didn’t exert ourselves as much; there weren’t deep clarifications during the lessons, although from the first moments, a pressure from above was felt.

After the convention, a dense cloud of pleasure descended upon us. It’s unclear whether we deserved it or if it’s an advance that still needs to be earned.

Answer: No, you don’t need to “earn” it; you deserved it. You made a great effort to come, and it wasn’t easy to physically get here. Therefore, all of this was well earned by you.

I am confident that we will begin to better understand our mutual connection and ascend higher and higher on the rungs of the ladder leading upward.

Question: In fact, I want to express deep gratitude for such a powerful convention. Can this gratitude be strengthened by analyzing everything we’ve gone through, or does it come naturally through feelings?

Answer: I believe it is gratitude for the past, present, and future. Baal HaSulam writes that a person says to the Creator, “I thank You for all Your mercy toward me,” meaning for the past. And thanks to this, they can immediately say with confidence, “And for all that You will do for me in the future!”

In other words, a person is grateful to the Creator for everything He has done for them in the past, and for everything He will continue to do from this moment onward. There is no doubt that we will feel the Creator’s benevolent attitude toward us.

Question: What is the best way to form a desire to unite? Most of the time I am in imaginary pursuits and indifference, but I have to cling to something in a friend. But each friend is different. What should I pay attention to?

Answer: Pay attention to the fact that I want to cling to a friend and he wants the same thing. If you have a joint direction of desire, you will connect and form one common desire, a single form.

Question: But I do not feel this friend. Do I have to enter into some interaction with him?

Answer: Yes, this interaction will gradually find you. You will cling to it and through it to the friend. It starts with the fact that you want to unite with all your friends and reveal that you actually do not have a particular desire for this. You constantly forget about it, push it away, and therefore nothing happens.

Question: How can I unite with a friend who has no love for me? How can I get strength from connection with him?

Answer: You can gain strength by wanting to connect with him, even if you do not know him or feel distant from him. It is only through this desire that you begin to achieve any connection with him.

Question: Does the power we receive come from the ten or the Creator?

Answer: Only from the Creator.

Question: If one of the “gears” in the mechanism of the ten is faulty or off-tune, but the friend does not realize it, is it possible for the ten to correct it together? What should we advise him?

Answer: This is about group work between friends. You must study together, tell each other how to act, and strive for a state where you will start this common mechanism in connection with each other, a common soul that will work because of you.

We have to accept these conditions and try to become engaged in them. Within some time (everyone has their own) each of us will eventually agree to work in tune with the rest of the gears, with the rest of the machine.

Question: Maybe we need a new method?

Answer: There are no new methods, because the system originates at the initial state of creation and is directed at its final state. Therefore, all we need is to study the spiritual mechanism a little, and most importantly—try to start it.

Question: That is, we must bow down and understand that the Creator is making this movement over us, and we cannot do anything. Or can we still do something? What is the correct opinion?

Answer: The correct opinion is that you will constantly look for what the Creator wants from you and try to do what He sees fit.

Answer: Not anytime soon. But we cannot give up and wait. It all depends on us.

Each and every individual in society is like a wheel that is linked to several other wheels placed in a machine. This single wheel has no freedom of movement in and of itself but continues with the motion of the rest of the wheels in a certain direction to qualify the machine to perform its general function (Baal HaSulam, “Peace in the World“).

Our main work is to reveal how interconnected we are and how we must tune ourselves together to be included in the work of this machine, not simply to be driven by it, but to begin to understand how we can activate it. That is our task.

Question: Should we just wait patiently?

Answer: No, absolutely not. Waiting patiently will not help. We must begin to activate ourselves along with the mechanism of the machine, and gradually we will become involved in its collective forward motion. We need to start right now, and the activation comes when we begin to sense its movement and integrate ourselves into it.

Question: It is written, “As their faces are not similar to one another, their views are not similar to one another.” How can we come to one desire so that it aligns with the Creator’s desire?

Answer: Under the influence of the actions the Creator sets before us, we try to be in one desire, like one person, and thus we become a single body.

And when this body consists, for example, of ten people, it has ten times more strength than if a person were alone.

Answer: A more corrected desire that is more suitable for common connection is gradually revealed in you. I think you have gone through good states lately and are ready for the Creator to be revealed to you. That cannot be expected—you must act.

Question: Can the connection within a ten be stronger than the common connection at the convention?

Answer: These are completely different things. Connection in the ten is your personal connection with your root.

However, connection with all the people attending the convention is the connection in width, not in height. Therefore both are necessary.

Question: How can we convey the correct intention to the center of the ten in order to achieve a connection of the branch with the root?

Answer: I believe that if we follow the articles of Rabash and Baal HaSulam, we will ultimately reveal the entire network of connections between us and the Creator. Then, it will become clear that we already exist within this.
