Humanity: A Loss of Direction

619Question: How is a mega-congress different from other congresses?

Answer: A mega-congress is a unified gathering of all people on Earth. We are trying to bring as many people as possible into unity—those who are unaware, in disagreement, indifferent, neutral, or far from anything spiritual—so they can discover that this exists and begin to understand the roots of their personal misfortunes and the global suffering in the world.

We want them to begin to sense the idea of a unified direction of humanity, society, and all of nature.

After all, we are entering a streak of failures that is systemic in nature, and we need to understand it. Why keep trying to run away from it? There are volcanoes here, droughts there, floods, terrorism, war, or other crises.

These problems need to be solved! After all, we are rational beings. So, let’s try to understand the world we live in.

Science has practically given up on this already. Politicians can’t do anything either; we see that from the outcomes of their summits, nor can the financiers. They are just trying to steal as much as possible before the end, while no one knows or understands what is coming next.

People have lost all sense of direction; they have no strength left to do anything. We have become ungovernable, and we no longer control anything ourselves. In other words, our egoism has ceased to be the driving force that guides us and allows us to manage our lives. Now, it no longer works.

Only interconnectedness, global unity, and the closed nature of the whole system can guide our lives now. This needs to be studied.

We must rewire our thinking, like a crew in a submarine facing danger working together to survive. They are specially trained to be united, to sense one another, and to understand that their personal survival depends entirely on the success of the whole.

Achishena—The Method of Self-Directed Advancement

527.03

Achishena (“hastening time”) means self-directed advancement. Each of us knows how we came to the wisdom of Kabbalah. At a certain point in time, a person suddenly receives a kind of awakening from an unknown source and begins to search.

He feels a lack of meaning in life, finds no taste in anything, and is driven somewhere without knowing what exactly he is looking for until he eventually finds it.

The sources say that it is the Creator who brings him to a special place, to a special society that is also engaged in searching for the meaning of life and tries to answer the question: “What is the essence of our existence? What is the meaning of the existence of the whole world, of all of nature, and even of what lies beyond it?”

Ultimately, these questions brought us to the point where we found our group, our organization, our society, in which the most important goal is to attain the meaning of life and the meaning of existence itself.

When we came to the group, we were ready to invest ourselves and do whatever was needed. We wanted to be accepted into the group, to integrate into it quickly, become one of them, and move forward as fast as possible. We were driven by our desire.

In this way, the Creator awakens a person, brings him to the right place, gives him the desire, the aspiration, the inner pressure, and as a result, the person does everything. He becomes involved in the group, studies, and applies all possible efforts just to realize this desire.

But then this desire suddenly fades away and disappears. Where does it go? We do not know. The Creator takes back the yearning that He previously aroused in the person so that the person can begin to create it within himself on his own.

But how can a person do this when he knows nothing? While he studies, reads, and absorbs the material, many years may pass. In Kabbalah, this latent developmental period may last 10 to 15 years, and this is considered normal. However, today we see an acceleration of this process, and now it takes much less time.

A person begins to realize that everything within him is just a desire, and that it is entirely governed by the Creator. The Creator holds him from above “by the scruff of the neck.” In Kabbalah, this is expressed very simply: “The heart of man is in the hands of the Creator.” “Heart” refers to our desires.

Therefore, whether the desire is greater or lesser, what it is directed toward, what we want in life—none of this is ours! Absolutely none of it! Our only role is to reach the awareness that all of this comes from the Creator, and that we are dealing only with Him.

Then we begin to feel that we are in a state of concealment. In fact, even the word “world” (Olam) comes from the word “Helem,” which means concealment. The world is the concealment of the Creator, and our task is to reveal Him.

For this, the Creator has only two systems of governance. One is called “Beito” (in its time), and the other is “Achishena” (hastening time).

If we want to work correctly, we must form a group. A person cannot have his own desire since his heart is in the hands of the Creator. But the group can create certain conditions that are above each individual friend, and they can operate in place of the Creator, seemingly even against the Creator.

That is, the group can awaken the Creator as the source of the upper force, the source of light, so that He arbitrarily changes our desires, if the group decides this together. The Creator will always listen to what happens within the group. For this reason the Kabbalists instruct us how to act.

But under all circumstances, we must not break away from the thought, and if possible, from the feeling that we are in total connection with the Creator, and that everything that happens within us comes solely from Him through absolute goodness. “There is none else besides Him.”

As soon as we tune ourselves to such a perception of the world, of ourselves, and of all circumstances, they begin to appear differently.

Just as at the beginning of our path when a person comes to the group because a desire was awakened in him to reveal the Creator—although he did not yet know that the desire was for the Creator, for that singular force of nature that governs everything—and then that desire disappears, this repeats over and over again.

The Creator arouses an impulse in each of us, and we rejoice in it. We think it comes from us, or that we received it from Him. But when the desire fades, we do not think it came from Him; we do not recognize His “flirtation” with us, we do not feel that He simply withdrew a bit from us, as we do from a small child when we want to teach him to walk. We forget this; we do not feel it.

Here, great help is needed from the group to remember it. This is where the path of Achishena begins, when we—on our own initiative and with clear intention—do not let go of the Creator. He distances Himself from us, and we, as a group, like little children, take a step toward Him. Despite His retreat, we take another step. He steps back; we take another step. This is how we learn to walk.

But one person alone cannot do this. He must be within a group to receive support from it, to avoid forgetting that everything is happening for a reason, that nothing is accidental. It is not fate, events in the world, the family, or at work that affect him to the point where he forgets everything and loses all motivation.

None of that exists! There is only one upper governance; the Creator withdraws the excitement that came from Him and wants us to awaken ourselves with a yearning for Him. This is the path of Achishena, the method of self-directed advancement.

We cannot implement it alone, but only through the group. Through the group, we can awaken upon ourselves the influence of the Creator’s force and begin to communicate with Him. Because within the group, with the correct relationship and connection between the friends, we detect this force, we reveal it, and then we begin to move on our own.

What does it mean to move on our own? The Creator distances Himself more and more, and we try each time not to fall into concealment of the Creator, and continue to affirm that He did this to us, that “there is none else besides Him,” and that everything is only from the perspective of absolute good.

This is how we advance.

Exercise: “In Connection with the Creator”

938.02Let us do a small exercise of trying to internally attune ourselves to an absolute, perfect connection with the Creator.

The Creator is completely governing us now, is opposite our feelings, thoughts, intentions, and actions, in everything that is within a person. There is nothing left in us that is not in complete connection with the Creator.

And now let us try to maintain control over this state and try to guard it constantly so that it does not become blurred, but instead becomes ever sharper. If some interference arises and a thought runs away somewhere, we still try to draw it back in such a way that, thanks to the disturbance, we further strengthen the connection with the Creator in our feelings, in all sorts of sensations, and we constantly keep ourselves in this.

We try to feel that the friends are also in the same inner concentration on the Creator and we all together wish to support each other in this. Even more, even more effort—to try so that everyone is just as focused on the Creator as I am.

And then we imagine Him as something common, one for all. We are constantly directed only toward Him alone, and we help each other focus only on Him.

We unite among ourselves in mutual help so that we no longer feel that it is I who am constantly holding the Creator in front of me as “there is none else besides Him” and “the good that does good,” but that we all together are striving toward Him. And if He is one for everyone, then we are one.

And if this is not yet possible, then I must care even more that a friend does not break their connection with the Creator. I want to be inside him, to help him in this.

In principle, we should constantly be in such exercises. Baal HaSulam writes in his Letter 17 that “Israel, the Torah, and the Creator are one,” that we must be directed straight toward the goal and try not to deviate from this path in any case, because otherwise a growing error will occur and we will find ourselves away from the goal.

Such constant striving is precisely the realization of the method of Achishena. We must think about how every person who comes into the group integrates into it. And to integrate into the group means to renew our efforts every day, to elevate them to a higher level, to direct them more precisely toward the Creator, toward oneself, and among each other.

The main thing is not to disconnect from this. That is, all my thoughts and discussions with friends must be included in the same intention—to be together facing the Creator—and in no case should I deviate from this. All disturbances must only increase the connection between us and with Him.

Revelation in Feelings

525Comment: I have always viewed the world through reason and logic. But today, during the gathering of friends, I began to feel many things through emotions, and I thought I was going crazy. On the one hand I want to hold on to this feeling that I experienced at the convention, but on the other hand, I am afraid of what might happen next.

My Response: While listening to you, I was reminded of myself. I also used to perceive the world only through laws. I am still like that, that is how I was made. I need to see the system, its laws, how it is laid out clearly, where the input is, where the output is, the formula by which it operates, the interferences, their regulation, etc. That is my nature.

When I began studying Kabbalah I was also focused only on the system. Before coming to RABASH, I had been studying Kabbalah for four years already, studying the structure of creation: worlds, Partzufim, Sefirot, clear laws!

Anything that had to do with feelings, I pushed aside. I could not even open those books. They seemed to me like fiction, sentimental outpourings, some kind of sugary fluff. I could not take it! I could not compare them, even though it was written that this is a science. I could not understand how one related to the other.

I remember having deep internal struggles. But I simply set them aside as if they did not exist. Like we usually say, “I do not believe it.” That is it, I will deal only with what I can grasp.

But when I started studying with RABASH, I saw how it all came together in him. We seriously studied the system: I would ask, and he would answer everything clearly, mathematically, with iron logic, because we were studying the physics of two forces.

Basically, what is there? There are two forces that interact with each other according to exact laws. As it is said, it is a system of forces that descends from above downward, according to precise laws, with the goal of revealing the Creator to a person in this world. In other words, it is a system. That is all.

There is some kind of skeleton, mechanics, and forces acting through this mechanism on a person so that through this system he can understand the force that operates within it. This was very clear to me and aligned with my natural inner structure. My profession matched this as well. I deliberately chose it because I was drawn to a systematic view of the world.

But after studying with RABASH when I suddenly felt that he was speaking about feelings, I could not understand what they had to do with anything. Revelation is in reason! And he says: “Revelation is in feelings.” I looked at him devotedly, like a dog at its master, but I did not understand what he wanted from me. He spoke, and I nodded. He would ask, “Do you understand?” And I would say, “Yes.”

This went on for a long time. I did not understand what was being asked of me! What feelings?! Charts, diagrams, schematics… I would ask, and he would answer. But what do feelings have to do with this?! I did not have any.

Only later, after two or even three years, when it began to dawn on me that matter is desire, came the realization that it goes through feelings. That, I could not grasp. What does it mean, “matter is desire”? Matter? Yes. Does it work? Yes. Desire? That is plus and minus. But where is it in me? I could not connect what was written with myself, with my own feelings.

Then I started to understand that, indeed, it cannot be connected with my feelings because I am an animal. But what is being spoken about here are other kinds of feelings, on a higher level. It was about the feelings of bestowal and reception, which do not exist within me or for me, but are isolated from me by the first restriction (Tzimtzum Aleph) and operate outside of me. There, bestowal and reception are not within me, but in the other.

Meaning, I have to isolate myself and start to constantly think about the other, in him is reception, in him is bestowal, and about how my system interacts with his system. Suddenly it started to come together for me like a normal part of the system because I detached from the perception that the world is within me. Now, “the world in me” means the feeling of myself outside myself, in others.

Then it became easier for me, because these were not the same corporeal emotions I constantly got confused in. This is an entirely different method, a different system of relationships. It is detached from me. I place a barrier and start building it outside myself, under the control of reason, under the control of feeling. These feelings do not come from my heart, but from the intention to exit myself and feel myself in another.

When this picture came together for me, I began to understand what Kabbalah is talking about. I remember how difficult it was for me because I think I was more insensitive than you. But on the other hand it was such a joy, such a powerful revelation. It is amazing that such a coarse, lowly, and egoistic person like me was constantly being pushed toward this work.

That is why the most important thing is to understand that Kabbalah speaks of “outside of me,” “outside of my skin.” I used to imagine it all differently, like taking an apple and peeling off the skin. In the same way, I thought I had to peel my own skin, and then I would feel the world.

But it turns out it is not like that. You have to exit and feel everything outside yourself, only in others; that is where you exist. Your body remains an animal; it exists as an animal. You only deal with living in others, that is where your feelings, your mind, your Kli (vessel) are.

Humanity’s Urgent Task

214Question: Until a certain time, all congresses were related to the preparation period. And now the congresses mark a new period—a period of correction. Everyone feels something new is emerging. What is it and how can we make the most of this state?

Answer: The world does not yet understand that it is at a completely new stage of development that is marked by qualitative changes.

The period of the previous egoistic development of the world has ended. The old paradigm is over; the paradigm where the more power, money, and knowledge means that you have more confidence in the future, more power, wealth, and everything else.

All these selfish accumulations, values, power, and achievements mean nothing in the new world because strength and success are defined differently in it. They are determined by the measure of correct interaction between the parts of creation, between all parts of nature.

We are already seeing this in ecology, in society, and between countries—everywhere. That is, one who knows how to interact with everyone correctly will survive and succeed. This is a law of global nature, and we have now entered this new phase.

For example, a child up to a certain age, say up to three or four years old, does not feel other children. They only present an opportunity to take something away from them, that is all. He does not understand the possibility of communicating with them.

But starting from the age of four or five, he makes friends. He plays with them, wants to get closer to his friends, and do something together. He is slowly moving away from nannies and gets closer to his friends.

From that point on, friends take on a very important place in the children’s environment. Then leaders are formed, all kinds of divisions into groups, subgroups, and so on. That is, a person is already becoming social.

Such a transition from individual, egoistic development to social development, which begins at the turn of four or five years of age, is taking place in humanity today.

Now everything will be determined by correct interactions, not by forming alliances as in: “I am against you in an alliance with the rest because I am tougher than you.” No! Namely, the correct, harmonious relationship between the parts of creation in accordance with the general law of nature. That is, we must conform to nature.

And this harmony will force us to become more and more environmentally correct, to fit into the whole picture of nature. Such a holistic approach will be in high demand, otherwise we will not survive.

People will see that all problems—banking, social, political, family—all collapse precisely because we have to move to a new system of relationships.

This system completely contradicts our egoistic, animal approach to nature, to ourselves, and to others. Therefore we will need to transform ourselves, become social, and think that the benefit of society is my benefit, the health of society is my health, and the success of society is my success.

This is so hard! Even impossible! Therefore we will have to break ourselves even more.

First, we must realize this is the case and we cannot escape. We suddenly find ourselves in such a world. So what do we do with it? We must find some hidden forces in nature to help us be in correct communication with nature.

Finding these forces is today’s task of mankind. We do not see them clearly, closely, actually; therefore, we try to escape this very task, that is, “it is impossible to solve, so there is no problem, so we close our eyes.” It will not work! The ostrich policy will not work here because the whole development is moving in this direction.

Kabbalah offers its own method of solution. It does not insist it is correct, and does not impose any dictatorial ways. It only says what it has to offer: “Check me out. See for yourself. And if so, take it and implement it.” That is all.

According to the Formula of Complete Interconnectedness

944We need to make people feel that unity has become second nature to us. After all, we are coming together and striving to create a common system of connections that should shape us into an entirely new humanity.

From this unity, new, clearer, and more stable connections between people should emerge, and within them, social relations should begin to form on an entirely new level.

Even new enterprises, educational systems, and media systems should arise from this network. The system of our interconnection, based on unity and absolute equality, should begin to generate systems of a new humanity founded precisely on the formula of complete interconnectedness and complete equality. Then we will become like the upper force, because no one will dominate another. In this, we will fully resemble the Creator.

The truth is that humanity has never had the opportunity to become equal. For centuries, many have strived for freedom, equality, and fraternity, understanding that this is the ideal.

But we could not solve this problem because we were not developed enough, and inside us, egoism was always boiling. A few idealists thought about it, while the rest tried to extract selfish gain from it.

Now this problem has become global. Every person, every family, feels it. Thus, we now have the opportunity to rethink and redefine everything, because today we can attract the upper force and with its help correct ourselves.

In other words, our congresses will become centers, and in between them, we will build an ever-widening community of people who will be able to grasp the new idea—a completely new paradigm, a completely new foundation, upon which all human institutions must be rebuilt. This includes industry, economy, banking, human relationships, family ties, relationships between children and parents, and education.

Everything we have done on this Earth must be rebuilt in accordance with a global system of governance. Then we will truly become fortunate and happy.

I believe that our congresses will begin to carry this idea into humanity, and people will realize that it is essentially a source of new understanding and knowledge through which we can build a better life for ourselves.

The Field of Love

938.02Question: I remember when I came to a congress for the first time, I had a great desire to cross the Machsom. I was overcome by a feeling of certain unification, like you just cling to others and want to feel something.

I do not know if this is psychosomatic or actually an unconscious, temporary feeling of a single whole. Is this the feeling you are talking about, or just an autosuggestion?

Answer: It is also a psychological feeling created by you along with the others but on a very small, low, animate level. This is something that can be done in any company.

The Creator does not participate in it, and therefore, it is not spiritual. A single, unique field of love has not yet been felt in it.

Love is not what we imagine in our world. Love is a quality of absolute bestowal; it is when your and other people’s desires absolutely merge into a single whole and you have only one intention left—to fill them from yourself, to give to them. That is what love is.
