The Creator Will Force Us to Unite

221.0Question: There are no safe places on Earth. In a few years, India will go under water. Scientists predict a new earthquake in Turkey as climate problems are on the rise. Is humanity doomed to perish?

Answer: No. Even if it wanted to, it would not happen. The Creator will force us to unite even more to positively affect our further ascents.

Question: What will happen to those who do not study Kabbalah? Will they die out like dinosaurs, or ascend?

Answer: Either they will die out or they will aim toward the goal of creation. One or the other.

Question: So is our task to influence this through dissemination?

Answer: Absolutely.

Through Praise and Gratitude

572.02The praise and the gratitude one gives for it expand the feelings, and one is elated by every single point in the holy work, he knows Whose servant he is, and thus soars ever higher (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 26, “One’s Future Depends and Is Tied to Gratitude for the Past”).

Question: What should our gratitude to the Creator be like in order to reveal Him?

Answer: We must reach a state where we feel, believe, and realize that everything before us belongs to the Creator and comes to us directly from Him. In this case, we gradually begin to feel ourselves within Him.

It is precisely in this work, in these actions, in these efforts, that we must reveal our constant, absolute connection with Him. That is what a person must attain, and we hope to achieve this as a result of our efforts.

In spirituality, that is, in the wisdom of Kabbalah, everything is determined by intention.

We must always be directed toward the Creator. If we have the opportunity to absorb all the impressions of the common Kli, we take them in. Then, the influence of the Creator’s revelation on us strengthens to the extent that we can unite our friends within ourselves, and as much as we strive to be one whole and, within this wholeness attain the Creator.

Can We Join the Righteous?

961.2Question: What should be the prayer in order to become included in the righteous ones?

Answer: Ask the Creator to keep the friends together and all of you to be concerned about a single state. Then you will have a common serious memory that will not disappear.

Question: Can we demand that the Creator raise our friends to the level of our forefathers and that they would feel what Rabash, Baal HaSulam, or you felt?

Answer: It is unrealistic, but you can ask for it. If you keep asking about something constantly, not about the same thing but still more or less, then you will find a necessity to enter this state once again and sense it. I recommend it.

The First and Second Conditions for Being Included in the Convention

938.04At the convention, it is best to try to annul yourself and completely dissolve into your friends. This is the very first condition by which I want to include myself in everyone and become an absolute zero in relation to them.

The second condition is to find such a layer of desire that can be used to be slightly ahead of everyone and pull them along.

That is, I must have a degree that in some way is different from zero, something that can pull everyone forward and so on more and more. Ascent is possible only by adding desire. But at the same time it must be reduced to zero, meaning it should not be used for myself.

There is a feeling that a wall stands before us that prevents us from opening our hearts and from asking for the light of correction. We must break this wall with our persistence.

Let us think about how to reach the state of Pesach at this convention, that is, to make a single leap from the desire to receive to the desire to bestow. Let us work on this together!

Happiness Is Connection with Eternity

293.1Comment: Special studies show that people feel happy when a country has a high average income level, low unemployment, significant economic freedom, and a relatively open labor market.

At the same time, generous social welfare benefits and low inequality do not contribute to the sense of happiness. For example, Norway has one of the highest suicide rates. Happiness is determined by life expectancy, access to education, GDP per capita, and purchasing power, among other factors.

Scientists attempt to define happiness externally. Yet, a person is not happy.

My Response: Happiness is connection with eternity, with a purpose that one seeks to grasp. Yet, as one approaches it, it continuously recedes, and one keeps striving toward it. It is an infinite process.

The aspiration toward an eternal goal and its gradual attainment is called the sweet suffering of love. That is, the simultaneous feeling of suffering and love creates the sensation of happiness.

For example, people may have yearned for each other for many years—suffering, moving toward one another, dreaming—and now they have finally met. At that moment, all past sufferings, all impulses toward closeness and mutual perception merge with the feeling of actual unity in the meeting.

The more these two opposing forces continuously increase and sustain one another, the more they create a sense of happiness in a person.

There can be no happiness without suffering. And suffering must inevitably lead to happiness. This is why it is called the “suffering of love,” as the feeling of love cannot arise without the prior experience of longing, suffering, and lack.

These desires emerge precisely in the search, in the movement toward love, and form what is known as a vessel for the perception of happiness. And once I reach happiness and become fulfilled, this feeling quickly fades. Therefore, I must once again restore a sense of some distance.

Even if I physically remain with my beloved, I must immediately think about how to arm myself with even greater desires for them, greater aspirations despite their presence. And then, it will seem as though they are not so near, not so close anymore. And I will begin striving toward them once again.

We must understand that the feeling of happiness is possible only in the middle line, between the left and the right, where the left line is the constant revelation of striving, longing, and emptiness and the right line is connection, love, and fulfillment.

The middle line provides a strong link between the continuous growth of desire and its constant fulfillment. Then a person feels as if they exist in a state of eternity and perfection, not shifting from one state to another, not swinging between the left and right lines, but existing in both simultaneously.

We cannot give a person any other explanation, because developing such perceptual tools requires internal work that they do not yet possess. This is precisely the purpose of the science of Kabbalah, which in translation means “the science of reception.”

Comment: As far as I understand, happiness does not exist in this world, and there is nothing to search for.

My Response: In this world—that is, within a single egoistic desire—happiness cannot exist. And within a single altruistic desire, it cannot exist either. Only on the basis of both desires, if resistance is introduced between them—negative, positive, and in between them resistance (our effort)—only then, upon this resistance can we experience constant happiness, eternal and perfect life.

Comment: It seems that we have already mastered the egoistic desire and are beginning to understand what it is.

Answer: No, it has not yet been mastered. We will be able to master it only in accordance with the emergence of an altruistic desire within us. Then we will begin to perceive a completely different kind of egoism. Right now, we experience only a very limited, animate-level egoism.

We must begin to perceive egoism that desires to work together with the quality of bestowal and love, that understands it must act in harmony with it as one half of the whole system of the world.

Talks about the Steps of the Ladder, Part 95

How Do We Begin to Make the Effort to Feel the Creator’s Influence?

This effort begins in society. We seek a certain point within ourselves through which we can create a connection with the Creator and feel Him. This process is similar to remembering a forgotten relative. Suddenly, someone reminds us that we have an Uncle Samuel, and we begin to establish his image in our memory: Uncle Samuel looks a certain way, associates with such and such people, lives in a certain house… we start to connect with him by finding the point of connection in our memory and heart.

The same is true with the Creator. We become immersed in the events of this world and we suddenly remember that there is a Creator. We then seek that point by checking what data we have available and where the Creator is filed within us. We then seemingly find what we seek and remember who and what we are. We search for exactly the point of contact where we and the Creator connect. This point is in the “mind” and “heart.”

If we still do not have such a space within us, we must “open a file for the Creator” and slowly record everything we have managed to gather in connection with Him. Then the point of connection will become revealed to us.
