“What is the single best way to fix the climate crisis?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What is the single best way to fix the climate crisis?

We can bring the world to balance only if we ourselves achieve balance in our relations. We will then find ourselves in a world that provides for everybody’s needs and satisfies everyone.

This is no pipe dream or utopia. It is a state that we will reach voluntarily or involuntarily. If we create balance in the world at the human level, then nature’s lower levels—the animate, vegetative and inanimate—will also enter into balance.

Today, there are people who expose all kinds of governments and organizations for climate inaction, but they provide no solutions. It is because the solutions that will ultimately bring the world to a state of balance are in changing ourselves to cultivate positive human connections.

I also support the creation of a serious organization of scientists, politicians and economists who collaborate on conducting in-depth research and reports on the world’s state, and who discuss what could be done. However, the solution will remain the same: to create balance in our relations in order to enable balance throughout the world.

Instead of making all kinds of governments and organizations the enemies and pointing the finger of blame on them, we should each view our inner selves as our sole enemy: the egoistic self within that prioritizes self-benefit over benefiting others.

Either we start changing our egoistic nature—upgrading our attitudes to each other from negative to positive, which would start bringing nature into balance—or we experience increasing suffering from climate crises together with a wide range of other crises that stem from the same root. In short, bringing ourselves into balance is possible only if we gradually create an atmosphere of “Love your neighbor as yourself” throughout society.

“The Enemy Within: Antisemitism on Israeli Campus” (Times of Israel)

Michael Laitman, On The Times of Israel: “The Enemy Within: Antisemitism on Israeli Campus

Once common only at US and European universities, Israeli higher education institutions have now become the site of heightened political confrontation. Images of heated demonstrations—some of them turned violent—in which Palestinian flags are raised in front of Israeli flags, are commonplace on Israeli campuses. Statements of support for terrorists and incitement chants such as, “Death to Israel” resound with increasing frequency. So, what are we waiting for? Either we begin to move toward Jewish unity, or soon there will be no more land in which to weep.

The commemoration of Nakba Day, the day the Arabs call a “catastrophe” marks the day of Israel’s independence. Its onset last week initiated widespread protests against Israel’s existence. The physical clashes between Jewish and Arab students show that the situation on Israeli territory is deteriorating. At prestigious higher education institutions such as Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University, there are increasing tensions between demonstrators who support the Palestinian cause and pro-Israel activists.

Jewish students worry about their safety, they feel threatened and fear that the situation could escalate into terrorist attacks on campus. They see that both the authorities and the administrators of the universities turn a blind eye toward campus antisemitism on the grounds of freedom of expression.

Everything we do in the context of rapprochement between Jews and Arabs, we do wrong. Nothing we have done has brought any good, nor will it bring any good. Unfortunately, we do not learn from our mistakes. So, we try again and again to bring the Jews and Arabs closer together by all possible means: at universities, in the workplace, and in everything at our disposal. In the end, it becomes clearer that we just prepare live ammunition to shoot ourselves in the feet.

Radical opinions that hanker to wipe Israel off the map hide beneath the facade of “intellectual” debates. The problem is simply that Jews and Arabs fail to live together in harmony on Israeli territory, period. Judging by the current circumstances, a point may be reached where we will be forbidden as Jews to enter our own capital, Jerusalem, until eventually we will have no place in the Land of Israel to call our own.

No Arab person who feels that this land belongs to them can support the State of Israel. I understand them. They will use their seats in the Israeli Congress, their ministerial positions in the government, and all other possible means to push us into the sea. I do not think there is any real intention for coexistence, even if such is not openly stated now. We as Jews must begin to open our eyes and realize that we can only rely on ourselves, on our ability to unite to secure our place in Israel.

The problem is that we are not idealistic enough, and instead only think of how to serve ourselves at the expense of others. We do not rise above the private individual ego. The Arabs realize that this weakens us and they take advantage of it. In contrast, they understand that their success depends on how connected they are, on how strong they are together, and therefore they succeed everywhere.

Do not get me wrong. I, too, want the Arab population to do well and live a quiet, normal life, but land for peace will never be the solution. Instead, we must create the conditions to divide the population into two peoples and make it clear that the land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel. How long will we continue our endless debates and realize that this is how it has to be? The problem is that by then, it may be too late.

But to live in the land of Israel, we must earn this right or we had better give up the land. We can triumph over any threat and prevail only when we use the help found in our special Jewish spirit.

Today, the opposite is the case; we are not carrying out our role. We have a fragmented society with all kinds of groups that come from different countries but without a common vision. This checkerboard approach may work in America which is not existentially threatened, but for Israel it could spell a death sentence. Quite simply, Israel will survive and thrive to the extent that Jews are bound together by good relations, reciprocity, and mutual care. The sooner we move in that direction, the better.

“Do we have to be afraid of terrorist attacks?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Do we have to be afraid of terrorist attacks?

We should completely erase any fear of terrorist attacks. It does not mean that we should not pay attention to the phenomenon and do nothing about it. We need to respond to terrorism by making decisions and implementing plans that would completely uproot the phenomenon. After we do so, we need to be certain that we did all that we could to stop terrorism, and from that point on, we need to attribute everything that unfolds in relation to the upper force and “whatever will be, will be.” If a certain act is supposed to happen, then even if we place several thousands of soldiers to guard ourselves, the act will happen. Therefore, after we do all that we could, we need to let go of our fears and anxieties and move on with our lives.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, if we wish to rid ourselves of such fears, then we need to connect to a certain source that neutralizes any fear and doubt that comes from another place.

This source is the source of our lives, called “the Creator,” “nature,” “the upper force,” and several other names in the wisdom of Kabbalah. It is the quality of love, bestowal and connection behind our existence and everything happening to us in our lives.

If we wish to attain contact with this quality, then we will focus ourselves in that direction, and eventually we will start feeling this force enter our lives. Then, the entrance of the upper force into our lives will eliminate any fear or anxiety we have. It will give us a sense of total safety and confidence, and elevate us to a new sensation and perception of the world.

When People Think About the Same Thing

557Comment: According to the Torah, every ten had to have a leader who influenced everyone with his wisdom. And so on up to the heads of the tribe. But then this structure ceased to exist.

My Response: No, it is not that it ceased to exist. It was decided to continue this state until complete correction, but then everything was drowned in common egoism.

Previously, there were tens, thousands, and tens of thousands of people who were interconnected and created a spiritual field between them that helped them to be in the quality of mutual bestowal.

If a massive number of people think about the same thing and aim for the same goal, then everybody inevitably aims for this goal.

Question: Do you think that in the future, humanity will be divided into tens and hundreds in the same way?

Answer: I am sure that people will want not to be divided, but rather to unite.

Ten—An Extensive System

595.05Question: The concept of the ten comes from the structure of the ten Sefirot. And where did 50 and 100 come from?

Answer: The fact is that you continue to count by tens, and you reach five tens, up to a hundred tens, and so on.

Question: But why not 60, not 70?

Answer: All these actions, on the one hand, are multiples of ten, and on the other hand, are multiples of five: Keter, Hochma, Bina, Zeir Anpin, and Malchut.

In principle, the minimum number of people who must be in connection with each other in order to be in mutual guarantee, in the quality of bestowal, and become like the Creator, should be five. But if there are ten, then, of course, this is already a more extensive system.

How to Deceive the Creator?

608.02Question: How can one fulfill the Creator’s program without feeling satisfied as a result?

Answer: Why not feel satisfied? You have to be satisfied and you have to be in joy from it. Only joy should be the result of the action of bestowal! Joy from the feeling that you are in others, that you bestow to them, and that you are for them, and in this you are like the Creator!

Comment: But there is such a formula when you do it so that the Creator won’t even know.

My Response: The Creator knows everything! But I have to tune myself as much as possible to bestow and therefore I imagine that I am doing an action that even He does not know about.

It is impossible, but I have to imagine it so that this action will not be egoistic and instead is outside of me, not for myself.

Do Not Listen to Anyone

527.03Question: Igor writes: “Why do I live in doubt all the time? Why do I have to choose something all the time and at the same time suffer every time I have to decide something, even the simplest thing, like which sneakers to buy, not to mention a car or an apartment? But the worst thing is that today I do not know who is right, who to listen to, who to follow. My question is: How can we make decisions?”

Answer: Do not listen to anyone. Follow absolutely no one! In no way and to no place! You have to feel that you are in a vacuum each time and there is nothing around you, nothing to lean on, no markers, no signs where to turn, what to turn to, or how to step. Nothing.

You have such doubts that there is nowhere to put your foot in this life and you do not know where to step. That’s it.

This is a wonderful state! When you have only one thing left—the opportunity to turn to the Creator and feel that you depend only on Him! That’s all. This is the most reliable state. And the most correct one.

Question: So, are you saying we can only rely on Him and not at all on anyone else?

Answer: Of course. If He gives us such states that we feel that there is no one else besides Him to rely on, this is a great salvation. It is in order to always have such questions whatever they are, so that I find answers only if I aim for the Creator. Then everything gets solved on the way.

Otherwise, we cannot do anything. These constant doubts are all we need in this life. Everything comes from the Creator and turns into doubts, indecision, and questions in my egoism.

And I refer it all to Him, together with my egoism. I adhere to Him. And in this form, I am waiting for a decision. Not even just a decision, I am waiting for action so that the Creator Himself will do it, perform it. It is the same as when you take a baby, put it in front of you, move its legs, and teach it how to walk. Just like that.

Question: What you are saying, can it be applied to any issue at the lowest, every day level, at any level?

Answer: At any level.

Question: Up to the highest?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Will I hear the answer then? If I tune in, will I hear the answer?

Answer: Since the Creator is perfection that includes everything, there is no small, big, or insignificant event for Him in creation. Absolutely all of them are equal.

Question: So, are you saying that the little steps of this little man, of the baby, lead to dad, to the father, over there? Is this what He wants, that we slowly, in small steps, get there?

Answer: Naturally. You just need to feel that He places your feet. He directs you to Him precisely with the help of these questions, failures, states of uncertainty, and so on.

Good Future for our Children

294.4Question: What does “proper upbringing” mean?

Answer: Proper upbringing is the creation of a correct environment around each person. Through the Internet and through the media, people can be led to understand that the influence of the environment on a person is the most important thing.

We parents need to start uniting among ourselves for the sake of our children and create the right structure for education.

Kabbalah prescribes this in great detail. Kindergartens, schools, and universities should be built on a completely different principle. The science of Kabbalah has been talking about this for thousands of years.

Question: Are there any results?

Answer: Of course! Within the framework of our community, there are children’s groups all over the world in which children are educated according to Kabbalistic principles, and they show how differently they relate to themselves, to life, to each individual, and to humanity. They understand the meaning of life and what they live for. They have a completely different outlook, they are different.

We are talking about the fact that the world will not be able to function if it is not united! People cannot exist unless they are united. That is, we tell the truth and teach children the method of correct existence. They study the principles of association, interdependence, mutual obligations, and all kinds of mutual concessions. It’s a whole education system. This is the most important thing in the world!

If we create such conditions for our children, then literally in 10 to 15 years we will get a completely new generation.

Let’s get on with it! The world needs nothing more. Moreover, by working with our children, we will correct ourselves. Let’s make a different world for them! We will kind of play in order to create the right environment for them. Nothing else needs to be done. This is enough to live normally, quietly, calmly, and most importantly, to create a good future for the children.

Either a Servant of the Pharaoh or a Servant of the Creator

207It is written in the primary sources that when a person is in Egypt, he cannot be a Yehudi, Yehudi—from the word “Yechud”- union. A person cannot be united either with the Creator or with the other parts of the broken Kli (vessel) of Adam, while in bondage to the Pharaoh, he cannot be a slave of the Creator.

Question: And why is it better to be the slave of the Creator instead of Pharaoh?

Answer: At first, we do not know what is better and what is not. It is just that our nature pushes us toward this, the Reshimo (internal information record) does.

And then we begin to feel that by working for the Creator we unite with each other and by this we bring pleasure to Him. We can attract the upper light upon ourselves, which gives us the opportunity to rise above egoism. And then the work in altruism already becomes wanted, desirable, and possible.

Question: A person is either under the governance of the Pharaoh or under the governance of the Creator? Is he either a slave of the pharaoh or a slave of the Creator?

Answer: Yes, there is no neutral state.
