Two questions I received about topics for PhD research and studying other subjects in addition to Kabbalah:

Question: I am new to reading about Kabbalah and I am planning to do research on Kabbalah for a PhD. The topic I was thinking about was “Kabbalah as a way of attaining enlightenment for the ordinary human being.” Please advise me if this topic will be a good research topic. If not please advise on a possible topic and books that I can read for my research.

My Answer: I am ready to help you!

Question: What should my attitude be towards self help, self education and various learning programs when I study Kabbalah? I feel I still have not covered my basic needs, so I am listening to self education tapes about money, sales, men and women and I also study Kabbalah.

My Answer: Study what you want, but choose among it that which is most important and eternal.

The point in the heart is a very special Reshimo that we receive, and it is a true miracle. With its help, you can separate yourself from the desire to receive pleasure, come out of it, tear yourself away from it, and then study, analyze and control it from the outside.

You can then study it externally and see exactly what the Creator had created. The ability to see this is called “faith above reason.” To study this is to study the Mind which operates the matter of creation.

In order to do this, you have to be outside the desire, above it and in unison with the Upper Mind that influences it.

All that the Creator created, all of matter, is a desire. By acting like the Creator, I am essentially researching myself. It seems to us that there are many things existing in the world. However, the world is actually a person’s inner perception: it’s his inner state.

The matter of which I am made, the desire to receive pleasure, is organized within me in such a way that I call it, “my world.” Within this matter, I discover everything at the inanimate, vegetative, animate and human levels of nature. My entire desire is the reality within which I exist. All I have left to do is to uncover it completely and see how it is structured, what are its constituent parts, what forms each of the parts takes, and what are the various connections between the forms and parts.

This is how the Creator teaches me to identify His actions, and I increasingly study Him within myself. In the end, He is the one who acts and manages everything, while I am the one who becomes His creation by uncovering it all. How do I complete an action? I do it by uncovering the Creator within that action.

The Creator and I are both working on the same thing – my desire. With the help of my point in the heart, I can come out of my matter and study it from the outside. I can relate to it like the Creator does. In this case, He and I are together above this matter, above creation, and I can acquire the Creator’s mind and the Thought of Creation.

The prayer said on the Jewish New Year mentions three conditions of ascending to the spiritual level called the New Year:

1. Kingdom
2. Memory
3. Blowing into the ram’s horn (Shofar)

What does this mean?

1. Kingdom is the desire for the force of bestowal (the Creator), the Upper Force that created everything, to rule inside us.

2. We have “memories” or “reminiscences,” which are informational genes (Reshimot) that are able to bring us to a state where we will reveal the Creator to the degree of our similarity to Him, to the quality of bestowal.

3. The way to achieve this is by blowing into the ram’s horn, or in other words, by raising the quality of bestowal above the quality of reception. (The word Shofar – Horn, comes from the Aramaic word Shufra – importance.)

Suffering is pushing man towards entering a higher dimension and to waking up from this sick, deformed dream where he feels himself as existing in a shattered reality.

He can look back and understand that by causing harm onto others he was only hurting himself. If he only knew then what he knows now!

He looks back and sees that those parts of reality that appeared foreign to him and which he only wanted to exploit, are in actuality, close to him and more importantly, are parts which he considers as himself.

He will see that the part which he sensed as his own “I,” in actuality, isn’t at all important. This is because the force of desire that is revealed in his external parts is many times more potent, and they become most important to him.

He sees that everything was deception and that by hating and exploiting all that surrounded him he was only harming himself. It was all a big mistake.

These revelations help him advance until he reaches full equilibrium with the entire universe being revealed and he begins to identify with it.

In coming to know that he belongs to this vast universe and that the universe belongs to him, he reveals the Upper force which fills everything.

In the News (translated from MIGnews.com): The largest manufacturer of the “Kalashnikov” machine gun has stopped production of this weapon at the Moscow Metallugical Plant, “Serp i Molot” (hammer and sickle).

My Comment: I don’t believe it and I don’t understand!  Last year, military expenditures rose 27% worldwide!  They can’t even sell machine guns?
