“What did Dale Carnegie do?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: “What did Dale Carnegie do?“

Dale Carnegie was an American psychologist, speaker, and author. He made a significant impact on countless lives through his inspirational teachings and best-selling books. A staple in the realm of self-help literature, Carnegie’s most well-known book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, has sold millions of copies worldwide and continues to be a go-to resource for improving interpersonal communication skills. Carnegie’s lectures and seminars drew large crowds eager to gain insights into personal growth and better communication skills.

Significantly, it turned out that America’s foremost promoter of unwavering optimism and enthusiasm experienced a period of depression and loneliness toward the end of his life. After he was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer, Dale Carnegie was overwhelmed by feelings of sadness and isolation. These feelings were compounded by the absence of close friendships during this challenging period. Despite his teachings emphasizing the importance of social connections and the value of maintaining strong relationships, he found himself lacking the support system he had advocated for throughout his career.

The irony of his situation is hard to ignore. While Carnegie offered guidance and inspiration to millions, his books and lectures did not grant him immunity from the struggles of loneliness and unhappiness. It goes to show the limits that such teachings, which are based on psychology, can reach. While Carnegie was correct in highlighting the importance of meaningful relationships and strong social networks, we need more than psychology to achieve true connection and happiness.

After all, we are born egoists, desiring to enjoy for self-benefit alone, and psychology measures everything solely within the framework of our egoistic nature. That is why despite employing the best psychological tricks, we can be left alone and lonely when we need others the most. Likewise, we can easily turn away from others when we no longer benefit from them.

As we age, our egoistic powers gradually weaken and dissolve. When we lose all desires, the body dies. The exact circumstances of Dale Carnegie’s death remain uncertain. An official statement from Dale Carnegie & Associates stated that he died of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but it is widely rumored that he committed suicide. Later, Irving Tressler wrote How to Lose Friends and Alienate People as an unauthorized parody of the classic Carnegie book, and he committed suicide. Like so many others, they both left the world disappointed and alone.

We all die alone. Before death, people feel completely torn and detached from others. Carnegie’s knowledge and expertise were insufficient to help him. Developing sustainable connections requires drawing the positive force that dwells in nature, which comes through the understanding sourced in the wisdom of Kabbalah.

People who study Kabbalah can become linked with creation, the souls (present, past, and future), above time, and beyond the matters of this world. Even the death of the physical body does not interrupt such a connection. Kabbalah lets us develop a soul and relate to others in a very close and positive manner—as to parts of our own soul. Such closeness takes place by ascending the spiritual ladder, thereby elevating us to a state of connection and absolute happiness.

If one fails to achieve such a state in the current lifetime, the body dies, and we leave this world just as we entered it–with nothing. The desire to enjoy once again dresses into other corporeal bodies, and such reincarnations continue until we reach our ultimate purpose.

Kabbalists feel no death. The soul is eternal, and when we acquire connection with it, we are no longer bound by space and time. We then see life in this world as a means to an infinitely better reality, which is currently hidden from us. We can feel it only when we acquire the positive force of bestowal and love that dwells in nature. We then see how the force of bestowal and love fills everything, and everyone is included in it. We can then break out from the lonely cages of our individual egos that keep us separated and alone despite our efforts to “win friends and influence people.”

Secret Information

263Comment: Sometimes you say something, and then catch yourself and say. “I shouldn’t have said it, it is too early, it was not worth it.”

My Response: Don’t worry, I am not saying anything superfluous, and if I do, it is on purpose so that it stays in you. All the same, this information will live in you, and then you will remember it and reproduce it. Basically, I am talking for the future reference and right now you cannot use it yet.

Question: How much information do you put into students in advance?

Answer: On many spiritual levels in order to enter the upper world and move on. In addition, this information is available in Kabbalistic sources.

My job is to teach you how to read Kabbalistic sources, because for those who read them correctly, they are instructions. Torah—from the word Horaa, instruction, but only a few in our world can read it correctly. Therefore, the task of the teacher is to teach students to understand its secret meaning.

Secret because the rest do not want and cannot understand the Torah correctly; they have no need for it even though the study is open to everyone.

The meaning of the Torah is to see an instruction in it for correction in accordance with a person’s desire. This is what I teach. In principle, I put in students not so much information as the correct attitude to the source of information.

Water Is the Receiver of Our Thoughts

703.03Question: Today seas and oceans are becoming more and more violent. What is water from a spiritual point of view?

Answer: Water is the quality of Bina. Salty sea water is the union of Bina and Malchut, i.e., a union of the highest quality water and the lowest quality salt.

Salt is the only element consumed in food that does not spoil, i.e., it is like a constant in our world, and that is why we need it so much. The union of Bina and Malchut gives us this huge mass (salt), which determines all life on the planet.

But first of all, it is water. We came out of the water. Life originated in water. The embryo in the womb is in amniotic fluid. Water is everything. And now this substance is being killed by our thoughts and actions, and accordingly transmits its threatening reaction to us.

557Question: Does everything that happens in the world mean that I am shown what I am ready to see and I have to sort of take it and accept this picture for myself?

Answer: You must understand that to the extent you, who are in an integral system, behave in a more integrated way with others, you and everyone around you will be able to achieve a more blissful state.

You cannot separate yourself from others. If it is bad for them, it will also be bad for you.

We are in a system where we are completely dependent on others, and what I wish for them, I will get the same part from them. This is how the world is arranged. You can disagree with this, shout, and swear, but it will be only in this way.

Question: What should be my reaction to what is happening?

Answer: What does nature care about your reaction? It sets new conditions for you, and that is it; you need to react. If you do not want to, do not react, be extinct like mammoths.

Question: What actions should I make upon myself?

Answer: Transform yourself and the surrounding society.

Question: How will I transform the surrounding society?

Answer: Together with them. Explain to them that transformation is necessary.

Doubts along the Path

963.4Question: Did your teacher motivate you in any way to do spiritual work?

Answer: Not really. All of that has to come from the person himself!

Do not think that being next to a teacher like Rabash means a free ride to the upper world! No. It is a very difficult state. Personally, I would not advise it to anyone!

Comment: But your students already feel some sort of belonging to the spiritual path.

My Response: That is their business. If they listen to me and try in their soul to be together with what I am explaining, what I am leading them to, then yes. And if not, then no. I do not pressure anyone and do not force anyone. Any person can leave tomorrow, saying: “Sorry but this is not for me.” Is anyone going to keep him here? Never. No one gives you a guarantee for anything.

Comment: But you say that the worst thing a person can do is leave.

My Response: It is the worst thing for them, of course. Because the person then returns to the animate existence.

Question: But in some cases the person comes back some time later?

Answer: A person does not leave completely. He retains some kind of sensation that he did not leave, that he is a little on the side, but in general, he is in it. I often meet such people. They say: “You think I do not remember? I will come back. I am just going through a period like this right now.” And years go by.

“What does “Next Year in Jerusalem” really mean?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: “What does “Next Year in Jerusalem” really mean?“

“Next year in Jerusalem” is an optimistic part at the end of the Passover Haggadah, and it means that we will reach a desire that includes all of humanity’s desires within itself. In other words, wherever we go, we will feel the need to positively connect with everyone above the ego’s divisive drives.

By doing so, we come to a state in which the upper force reveals itself to us, as it is written, “for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them” (Jeremiah 31:33). We then build a system of connection between us, which is called “the house of the Lord,” about which it is written, “And My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples” (Isaiah 56:7).

That is the meaning of us building a network of connections from a different quality, where the upper general force of love and bestowal fills, creates and sustains the system we exist in.

Such is our future state.

If we aim in the direction of positively connecting to each other above our egoistic drives—and especially if we do so together—then we will reach the sincere desire to connect described by the words, “next year in Jerusalem.”

When Will the Truth Be Revealed to Us

6Question: There is a saying: Human disputes are endless, not because it is impossible to find the truth but because those who argue are looking not for truth but for self-affirmation.

Is this visible to the naked eye today?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Is it ever possible to find the truth in our world?

Answer: It is impossible in our world because we do not see the whole world. How can we find the truth? The world’s truth cannot be attained if there is a concealed world before you. How can this be?

Question: Do I have to reveal the whole world, and then will I find the truth?

Answer: Yes. Only a small part of it is revealed to you if you can say that it is revealed. From it, you have to guess and unravel the whole world.

Question: In this case, do we even need to search for the truth?

Answer: You will not find it otherwise. And you have to find it.

It is the search for truth, that is, the search for the Creator, the force that holds it all, that alone can lead a person to understand the meaning of life, the truth of life.

Question: Then, going back to the beginning, directly to this aphorism, let us say people are sitting at a table and want to come to some kind of solution to find the truth. What should they do to find it?

Answer: I do not think when they are just sitting around a table they can find something. I believe that this goal can be achieved by each person in his inner exploration of himself and the world, and not when he sits with others and they only confuse each other.

Question: In this case, we cannot come to any common agreement at all. How can we come to some kind of peace as a result? I call this the truth. To reach a common consent, at least. How?

Answer: Only if we seriously start to come closer to each other and want absolute good for each other. Only in this case.

Question: When they sit down, do they want good for themselves? But after they sit together for some time, should they come to the conclusion of “I want the good for the other”?

Answer: I have to accept the desires of others as my own, and so does everyone sitting at the table.

Question: Is this called that we are getting closer to the truth?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Then, is it possible to come closer to it?

Answer: Yes, this is the only way.

Question: Will we ever come closer to it?

Answer: I think so. We just need to go through a few more unpleasant moments that will show us that there is no other way to solve our problems. Then we will rise to a state where we will solve not our own problems, but the problems of the whole world. Then we will succeed.
