The Reason for Appealing to the Upper Force

294.4Then, when he sees that he is powerless to do anything for society, there is room for prayer to the Creator to help him and give him strength and desire to engage in love of others (Rabash, Article 17, “The Agenda of the Assembly”).

As a rule, a person does not have the strength to do something for the sake of others because it is against his nature. We are egoists, inherently focused only on ourselves. And here you must incorporate into your friends, think about them, and envision yourself merging with them.

Therefore Rabash says you must exert efforts, then you will see that you do not have the strength to get closer to them, and then you will turn to the upper force.

Question: It turns out that all this is just to appeal to the upper force?

Answer: Yes, this is important because only from there can you get help.

Question: And why is it arranged in such a way that a person cannot, through his own efforts, achieve the importance of his friends for himself?

Answer: Because we can only exert efforts in egoistic actions. But here, it means rising above egoistic forces into the realm where only altruism, bestowal, and the importance of others reign. All these qualities must develop among us and prevail.

Toward a Stable Connection with the Creator

935Question: What does it mean to connect with the Creator in a supernatural way?

Answer: It means that you use everything you have at your disposal, in all your senses.

To strengthen a stable connection with the Creator, first and foremost you must be in a strong connection that leads to unity. To the extent that you are united with each other, the Creator will listen to you; otherwise, He will not.

Integrate with the Ten

528.01Question: How does a person determine whether their pain stems from distancing from the Creator or from lacking fulfillment of desires? After all, there is confusion that occurs in the descent.

Answer: Everyone should integrate with their ten and reveal their reaction to what the Creator does. Then all the friends will have a clearer picture of what is happening to them.

Question: If someone in the ten experiences suffering from a lack of fulfillment, can we build a true spiritual deficiency above this? Or is it the individual work of each?

Answer: No, this can be a group effort.

Question: What should our prayer be about?

Answer: Prayer should always be about coming closer to the Creator. Then suffering will disappear.

Without Violating the Principle of Faith above Reason

232.05Question: In the article “Jacob Went Out,” Rabash writes that when a person rises to a higher degree and feels it, this feeling violates the principle of faith above reason. And through violation of this principle, a person is thrown back down.

Is it possible to feel the upper degree without violating the principle of faith above reason?

Answer: Yes, that is how we rise. When we receive information from an upper degree, we try to ascend to it, hold ourselves in faith above reason, and simultaneously receive whatever is possible within reason. And so we continue.

Question: Am I working with a sense of the upper degree but with a sense of where I want to go in the next moment?

Answer: One must feel this since one can understand everything only in action.

Correction without Punishment

625.02Question: How can we consciously go through all the states as corrections that bring us closer to the Creator?

Answer: If we relate everything to the Creator, want to understand what is happening to us, and ask Him to bring us closer to Him, then we act correctly.

Question: If we begin to translate all negative states into the idea that He is sending them to us, then is this a correction and not a punishment?

Answer: There are no punishments at all. Correction is not a punishment. The Creator always straightens us up.

The correction of Kelim is a state when, after the work done, in those places where we have experienced troubles, suffering and blows, we feel gratitude and love.

Letters—Records of Spiritual Forces

151In spirituality, there are no letters, as I have already elaborated on before. All the multiplication in spirituality relies on the letters derived from the materiality of this world (Baal HaSulam, Letter 14).

Letters are a record of the forces that a person must evoke when reading Kabbalistic texts. That is why Kabbalists when they work on texts, relate their feelings to words and letters and at the same time, can change their powers and impact the environment.

Question: What letters do we need?

Answer: We need practically all letters. And there are only a few of them in Hebrew, only twenty-two. It is said that it is the shortest alphabet of all.

Some alphabets include forty-seven letters and close to sixty, but here are only twenty-two.

Therefore, we need to understand what each letter suggests, what it implies, and what combinations of forces are in it. This is very serious.

When a person begins to approach the meaning of the letters, he feels how they are playing in him. And then he reads them differently. He is no longer in a hurry because each letter evokes a resonance, a reaction in him. In such a way, he gradually begins to feel what the text wants to convey to him.

It is said: there is no renewal in the light, but there is creation, that is, when it is necessary to convey movement over the letters, and the form of the higher ones is revealed.

The form of the higher ones is the following degree. And movement atop the letters means that a person, desiring to reach the next degree, forms an intention above his interests, i.e., not for himself.

In principle, we need to connect with letters in our feelings. Then we can understand what the Kabbalists want to convey to us.

How Can Israel Defend Its Independence?

294.2Dear Michael Laitman,

I am 92 years old. I have been living in Israel for 34 years. I love this country, I love my people. My children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all are here, no one has left.

Tell me, we have been celebrating Independence Day in Israel for 76 years. We have defended Israel in six wars. Today, we are at war again, and I see that beasts are against us. Hamas are beasts. In the north, there are Hezbollah terrorists. Iran will not leave us alone. There is such antisemitism all over the world! It is scary for a Jew to walk the streets. So many people want our country not to exist, and this worries me greatly.

Michael, tell me, will we be able to celebrate our independence in a year or in ten years? I am not thinking about myself when I ask you this question.

My Response: I understand you, and am very touched by your words. I think that we will still celebrate Israel Independence Day in such a way that it will be a holiday for the whole world. For the whole world!

We will achieve the point where the idea outlined in the Torah becomes the fundamental idea of the existence of humanity “love your neighbor as yourself” first and foremost.

Question: So are you saying that if the country lives by this law we will celebrate these holidays all the time?

Answer: Absolutely.

Comment: But tell me, is it possible that we could be expelled from here by force?

My Response: I do not think that we can be expelled from here. I do not think that difficult times lie ahead. Now we need to think not only about ourselves but also about the world: what we say to the world, what we need to show it, what we need to lead it to. This is how we will defend our independence.

Question: Should we also defend it militarily today?

Answer: Of course! Of course, we must.

Question: Have you no doubts about that?

Answer: No. For Israel, peace is a means to spread the idea of “love your neighbor as yourself” to humanity. We must not forget this and always behave in accordance with this principle.
